Adobe Sales News

For the rumor starved:
A news release says Adobe sales increased 14% last quarter boosted by demand for software to design web design and create online video.
Article says Creative Suite 6 will be introduced next year and Adobe will focus on tools that help customers work with HTML5 to design Web pages and produce online video.
The company is overhauling the way it sells Creative Suite to spur more frequent purchases of programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver. As more customers seek to buy and use software over the Internet, Adobe plans to release a software package called Creative Cloud in the fiscal second quarter.

One-third of Adobe’s design-software revenue will come from online subscriptions in three years, Chief Financial Officer Mark Garrett said in an interview. That’s up from almost none now.
Hmm.
Has the subscription channel really got that much growth potential?
Feedback in these forums seems to suggest that individuals/SOHOs prefer purchasing perpetual licenses.
Will subscription growth come primarily from the SME and large Enterprise markets?

  • Adobe Access - new drmNativeInterface.framework for iOS 8

    Hi,
    We are a company that has been using Adobe Access for more than a year and so far we are very happy with the fact that the Adobe Access 4 can support playback DRM content on Desktop / Android and iOS without any problem.
    But recently, to prepare for the upcoming iOS 8, I have upgraded my development iPhone 5 and iPad 2 to the iOS 8 Beta and the drmNativeInterface.framework starts working wrongly. Sometime I can stream my DRM HLS content, sometimes, the drmNativeInterface.framework just stuck in the middle without any error or exception (this issue happens quite frequently like 7 out of 10 times). After debugging line by line, followings are the piece of code that make the framework stucked without any error or exception.
    1. The framework sometime stops working when we try to get the singleton instance of DRMManger
    _drmManager = [DRMManager sharedManager];
    2. Sometime it stops when we try to parse the M3U8 url:
    [_drmManager getUpdatedPlaylist:m3u8Url
                                          error:drmErrorHandler
                                        updated:^(NSURL * newPlaylist, DRMMetadata * newMetadata){
                                            NSLog(@"Update M3U8 URL Player list for license process");
                                            //Successfully retrieved the metadata from provided link
                                            m3u8PlayList = newPlaylist;
                                            _metadata = newMetadata;
    3. Sometime it stops where the DRMSession is initialized (after the User Authentication process is completed)
    _session = [_drmManager
                            createDRMSession:_metadata
                            playlist:m3u8PlayList
                            error:^(NSUInteger majorCode, NSUInteger minorCode, NSError *platformError) {
                                NSLog(@"Failed to get DRM Session");
                            complete:^{
                                NSLog(@"Successfully obtained DRM Session");
    Most of the time, it stops when we try to get the singleton instance of DRMManager ( issue number 1 )
    I can ensure that the framework works very well with iOS6 and iOS7 (although iPhone 4 with iOS7 crashes while a lot during the DRMSession initialization).
    If there is new version of drmNativeInterface.framework, please kindly let me know where we an get it as the drmNativeInterface.framework we have been using is quite old (for iOS5 I think).
    Thank you very much.
    Jack

  • Adobe Reader new downloads keep popping up.  What is it and do I have to pay for it and how can it h

    Hi all............I was reading my sat nav cd on my computer and 'adobe Reader new downloads' keeps popping up. When I asked a friend do I need this they just say 'no' but I am curious and like to learn. What is 'Adobe' Reader OR 'Acrobat'. You see I'm trying to learn how to use the mp3 plaver on my sat nav and download updates for it but there's never anything to say 'how much' or 'free' and there is so much to read. Anyway does anyone know if these downloads are free? and what do they do? All help welcome as I don't understand at all what it is? Oh and thanks in advance :)

    Can we go back about the new downloads thing... what is the message
    (exact text please) and when does it come up? If it takes you to a
    web site, what is the web address (you can copy and paste this from
    the browser). I am worried that this may be more sinister than it
    seems.

  • FrameMaker 9 upgrade offer -- Adobe sales lacks information. Any ideas?

    When I started up my Frame 9 copy, the splash screen displays a "Limited Period Offer" of 40% off to buy FM 12. Except the Adobe 12 web page, the direct sales rep I called, and the customer support rep I was transferred to have no information about this.
    Does anyone have any more information about upgrading FM 9, and how I might actually "save 40%" when upgrading?
    A screen shot of part of the FM splash screen with the upgrade offer is here:

    Besides being expired, I seem to recall that the offer was only for a
    discount on the subscription version of the program and not on the
    perpetual license version. The subscription version is bad because, if
    you stop paying the subscription fee, the software stops working.
    Upgrade pricing is only available from FM10 or FM11.
    I must say that I do not like Adobe's upgrade policies. A person who has
    already purchased FrameMaker 9 has already paid for 99% of the features
    in FM12. Why they should be forced to buy the new version of the program
    at full price just to get a few new features is ridiculously unfair.

  • Adobe's new 64 bit multimedia operating system code named Quick Silver

    As far as I know Adobe is not creating a 64 bit bit operating system but I wish they would. Or at the very least they should make a web browser called Quick Silver.  I am writng this because I seen the Mozilla Fire Fox video. I think Moziila will soon write a mobile OS and maybe even a desktop OS. They are even asking for donations. I like Fire Fox because it is free. If they charge for it I would probably just use IE. I know Adobe has the free Acrobat Reader and Flash Player why not a web borwser? I think if Adobe created an OS and gave it away free for 18-19 months it could get a large amount market share. Two years later they could start to charge $35 for the OS. I think within 3 years Adobe could get 50% of the market share for new computers if the OS was only about $35.00 for the download version ($45.00 retail version).  I don't doubt that Adobe could get a good 50% of the market share and other multimedia software and hardware vendors would also support the Adobe OS. Before I make the feature request I would like to know your thoughts.

    Imagine if the car industry ran like software/hardware:
    Dragging your car home with a rope (and no wheels because they were not included) to spend 8 hours removing unnecessary things like 'McAfee windshield wiper fluid made from glue', 'iMovie sticky gum' on the upholstery, and "VAIO media player lemon scent deeply rigged into the AC unit" which has pretty much nothing to do with the car... only to call the dealership and ask: "when I start my car and pres the window down button the right blinker turns on and then the vehicle stops" then be put on hold for 6 months to receive the following response "what was the number of times the blinker flashed before the car turned off? we need that number to determine what part to send"... and then when you finally DO get the wheels the dealership releases a new version of your car and the state puts a road law into effect that crashes your vehicle when it touches the road unless you pay the dealership to upgrade from car 1.5 to car 1.5.7390... which when you do the engine is not supported? So... you buy the NEW NEW car that comes with 1.6 installed in the engine and find out the wheels will not be released till next month.
    dig?
    ~lol.
    i do try remain cheerful and hopeful... but its not funny anymore.
    you make a good point, but... are there some sales statistics for that?
    light trolling, but seriously, does final cut have a support problem, roll out fail, error code and forum track record anything at all like this?
    google ->site: forums.adobe.com = About 12,500,000 results
    google ->site:forums.adobe.com = About 3,880,000 results
    I think the FCP thing is a great idea. Lets check back in a year and see who bought it...
    I would totally would have preferred to pay $6500.00 for a "Dedicated Adobe Tower Master Collection Desktop" @ $65 per month (hardware included)
    instead of the $20,000 shelled out over the last 10 years on soft (PLUS another 2 desktops and 3 laptops and the gadgets since 2002)
    not to mention the time lost. the valuable time I will want back on my deathbed. lol
    Even if Adobe does not do a proprietary OS, I am thinking it still makes sense for some 3rd party to bundle, its not the same though...
    Apple is on to something in my opinion.
    Imagine Apple and Microsoft teaming up with Adobe to produce very specific machines?
    Other industries do this, they communicate, they have standards, look at how Vehicles and Tire manufacturers collaborate...
    When a new car comes out they don't just change the wheel well and expect the Tire manufacturers to follow suit later, no indeed, that kind of thing is rolled out proper and one can drive right off the lot the day its bought.

  • Adobe Reader new challenges... the tool is becoming obsolete?

    Hello everybody. Im a big fan of the Adobe Reader. I use it a lot in my daily work. But im very worried.With the new plataforms (iphone, android, google chrome...) the Reader functionality get worse. Works ok and fine in windows & IE, but not in the others.
    3D utils dont work, forms crash, secure links errors...
    Why? A few years ago the PDF was the only format usefull for all, but it looks like Adobe doesnt care about improving. OMG! Adobe cant be more than 2 years without activate or repare all Reader functions!
    At the end we will change to another softwares, and adobe will be the only guilty.

    Thx for your atention, Michael. the problem is that the Adobe Reader for Android&Iphone App is very limited. I work with 3D designs integrated in PDF files, but actually i cant offer my services properly because Android Reader dont have support for those files.
    And the question is...why? The future will be those apps. But... Adobe dont see? The new generation tablets support filetypes like 3ds, u3d (native format for insert in PDF), obj... Programs like "3D model viewer" works fine in realtime.
    I hope that Adobe will support  the reader for android devices...

  • Adobe recommends: New CSS features in Dreamweaver CS5

    Over  the next week, we are going to be publicizing some high-value content from adobe.com and other community sites. We have been tracking what's    been most important to our users, and feel that getting this content out to the larger community will go a long way toward helping people tackle some of their most pressing challenges.
    Continuing our trip along the CSS highway, our next recommendation is a video by Dremeaver superstar Brian Wood:
    New CSS features in Dreamweaver CS5
    The video demonstrates some of the most exciting new CSS features in Dreamweaver: new CSS layouts, CSS inspect, and CSS enable/disable.
    Give it a spin and let us know what you think!
    Previous recommendation threads:
    Use Dreamweaver CS 5.5 to package your web application for iOS and Android devices
    Customizing a Spry Menu Bar widget
    Spry Menu Bar resources
    Layout 101
    CSS page layout basics

    Thanks for the answer this is very useful however I still find that Dreamwever defaults back to writing in CSS, I have to go to the manel every time and switch from CSS style to Inline style which is very irritating. Is there any way to disable writing in CSS all together like their used to be in CS3..in the preferences.
    Much appreciated

  • What's Going On With Adobe's New Upgrade Policy?

    My old system died today, so I quickly finished the new system I was building to get up and running as quickly as possible. I tried to re-install my 2 year old copy of CS5 on the new machine, and see at the licenseing step that I had to have either CS3 or 4 extended serial numbers, or a CS2 number. I had CS2 many years ago, but that's long gone. I still have my standard copy of CS3--which was good enough for upgrading when I bought CS5 and originally installed  itunder current upgrade terms at the time. Now it seems it's not good enough even to reinstall on a new box. And to top things off, Adobe takes weekends off, so I can't even get this resolved until Monday.  How much is Adobe paying these days for lost time when they lock you out of your legally owned and licensed Adobe product? Why can't I even go from CS3 to CS5?  I thought that was going to be the new, revised requirement, but I can't even do that.
    Can you tell I'm a bit upset? I need access to PS and Bridge NOW, and I can't do anything. I've been told Adobe is far from customer friendly these days, but I had no idea just how true that is.
    Is there some sort of work-around, or am I just out of luck until Monday?  Thanks...

    Thanks for responding, guys. (Yes, this is actually Hilstudio1--I seem to have logged in with an old email address I used to use--but not on the forums--and Adobe wanted me to choose a screen name. Couldn't find a way to log out and then rejoin with the Hilstudio1 email, so now I have two names!)
    Anyway, the old machine died with a corrupted OS (long story, but my fault) and my repair guy came by, spent about 2 hours (but only charged me for one), and said forget this machine, just finish the new one. That's what I did.  of course, this meant I was not able to deactivate PS before I installed a fresh copy of CS5 on the new box. When I tried to enter the license, I started having issues, long before getting to the activation point.
    I originally upgraded two years or so ago to CS5 from CS3, and that was not an issue. And Saturday, I was able to enter the CS5 license ok, but when I entered the CS3 license as the upgraded product, I was told it wasn't an eligible product to use for an upgrade to CS5. It had to be either CS2, or CS3/4 extended. If CS3 standard was good enough to upgrade to CS5 standard two years ago, why not now?  I was finally able to find my CS2 registration here on the Adobe site, and it did accept that license. So, I finally got licensed, but I still don't understand the issue that causes the CS3 licence to be ineligible now.
    And today, even though I was able to *initially* activate CS5 on the new machine, I'm getting an inelligible for activation message, because it's already installed on two computers. True, but I can't inactivate the old one 'cause it's dead and gone. Why not have a 'button' to push that will start some process in events such as mine--or maybe just keep customer service hours that are comparable to most other large software companies? The inability to deactivate a copy of PS because of a dead computer can't be all that uncommon. I'm so happy that Adobe finds they can maintain banker's hours for customer support while their efforts to protect against even a quarter's worth of potential illegal software use goes on 24/7, affecting even legally licensed users doing nothing wrong. (Yeah, I'm still just a tad upset! )
    Thanks again--

  • Installing adobe on new laptop

    The computer I had my Adobe suite on is broken. How can I have my subscription moved to my new laptop?

    Install the subscription on the new machine and login with the same Adobe ID/email address used to buy the subscription. In this case I hope the subscription was not installed on any other machine? If yes you may need to contact Adobe support.
    Thanks

  • Adobe Air + New iPad (iPad 3) retina display, any idea? any one?

    Hi, I have tried countless amount of times to turn it on, I mean, how can I run my app on the new ipad at 2048x1536, it is always scaling up the app content times 2 and if I try to scale down the whole stage >> 1 (or / 2) of course all images looks blury and horrible, any idea? any one?
    something very interesting to mention is that apps made in Adobe Air looks looks slightly better on iPad2 than iPad3, because the whole content of the air app is being scaled x 2, especially on vector content like Textfields fonts, etc... this is weird, it doesn't seem to happen on native apps.
    any thoughts about this?
    thanks.

    I did not use the command line, but rather Flash Builder's interface.  But reading Adobe's support materials, I gather that in the Native Extensions dialog, setting the Apple iOS SDK is the equivalent of setting -platformsdk. So I set that value to point to my copy of the iPhoneOS5.1.sdk.  Below is my sample project code.  In the application descriptor file, the only thing I changed from the default is my project id to match the provisioning profile and adding <requestedDisplayResolution>high</requestedDisplayResolution> to the iPhone xml tag.  I tested this out on my iPhone 4 and it worked great.  On the new iPad only the top corner of the image appears on the screen because of the scale.  I am using AIR 3.1, so unless the 3.2 beta includes a fix, it seems that Adobe needs to produce an update before AIR supports the new iPad's display.  Please tell me if you find anything I missed.
    package
              import flash.display.Sprite;
              import flash.display.StageAlign;

              import flash.display.Bitmap;
              public class RetinaTest extends Sprite
                        [Embed(source="bgd@2x~ipad.png")]
                        private var bgdImg:Class;
                        private var bgd:Bitmap;
                        public function RetinaTest()
                                  super();
      // support autoOrients
                                  stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
                                  stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
                                  bgd = new bgdImg();
                                  addChild(bgd);

  • Adobe sales is not responding to any communications channel

    I run the computer labs at a small community college. We need to buy an additional 24 device licenses for Dreamweaver. I've sent innumerable emails, voice messages, and chats, but no one at Adobe is responding. Unfortunately, our Adobe license and contact has been lost. Can someone direct me to a sales rep?

  • And this is why I hate investing any time in learning Adobe's new products

    This is the perfect example of the problem with Adobe in general.  They introduce a product that works well, FormsCentral.  Some of us happen to find it, learn how to use it, start relying on it, and then they yank the rug out from under us and decide to drop it.  Why? They don't have enough users.  Why don't they have enough users? They don't tell anyone about the products or how it will help them!!!
    There's others - Muse, Edge - that are out there and look promising, but I'm not going to even spend time playing with it until it's been around at least 5 years.  Unless they get an immediate following as big as they have with Photoshop, it's like those of us who spend the money and effort in it don't matter at all, if their arbitrary numbers aren't there.
    I'd be happy if they just left it on a server for me to use and I'd still pay them the same amount for them to not upgrade it or add any new features - you know, the kinds of things they keep feeling the need to "improve" even though the users like it just fine.

    Agree - I'm really frustrated with Adobe right now.  This is a great program and reading the comments from other users, we are not alone.  They are doing their customers a disservice!
