ADSL setup instructions for byo modem models

Before you begin setting up your modem, make sure you've received an email from us confirming your username and password.
Step 1
Your modem needs to be connected to your phone line, computer and power according to the manufacturer's instructions. If you are connecting your modem using USB rather than Ethernet, make sure you have installed the correct USB drivers BEFORE you connect the modem to your PC. (The USB drivers should be on the original modem installation CD and the manufacturer's website.)
Step 2
For your modem to work without interference from your telephone equipment, you need to install a filter on each telephone device that shares your ADSL line. Follow the instructions included in your welcome pack. Note that your filters may look different from the ones shown, but they should still work in the same way. If you need to purchase additional filters, visit your local Telstra shop or a modem retailer.
Step 3
Synchronisation shows that your phone line is connected to the ADSL equipment in your exchange. If your modem can't achieve Line Sync, you won't be able to connect to the internet. Most modems indicate Line Sync with a light marked SYNC, ADSL, WAN, or LINK. A flashing light normally indicates no sync or a current attempt to sync, while a solid light indicates a successful Line Sync. Check your modem's user guide for its specific Line Sync indication. It can take up to 60 seconds for a modem to achieve Line Sync. If you're not achieving Line Sync, check that you've installed your filters correctly and reboot your modem by turning the power off, waiting five seconds or so, then turning it back on again.
Step 4
Your modem should come with an installation CD. Many manufacturers even provide installation wizards specifically for logging on to BigPond. So it's always available to run the CD. If you can't connect to the internet (and you definitely have Line Sync), check that you've entered your username and password correctly. Your username must be entered in the format "username@bigpond". Your password is case sensitive, and must be entered exactly as provided in your email from BigPond. If you still can't connect, check the manufacturer's website or call them for support.
Advanced setup
Step 1
As long as you have an Ethernet or USB connection between your PC and the modem, you should be able to gain access to the modem's configuration manager. Remember, for USB to work you must have installed the USB drivers from your installation CD or the manufacturer's website before you connect the modem. Most modems have configuration web pages included within them. To access this page, open your web browser and type the IP Address in the address line and press Enter.
Step 2
Decide whether you want to run your modem in Router or Bridge mode. This is the configuration mode recommended by BigPond, and the majority of modems will default to this mode.
Router Mode is sometimes referred to as PPPoA mode. In this mode, the modem is responsible for authentication rather than the PC. With your modem set up in Router Mode, you won't need to log in to BigPond on each PC. As long you connect a PC that can get an IP Address, it will automatically have internet access. The diagram below shows how router mode works.
Bridge Mode is sometimes referred to as PPPoE mode. If your modem is a low-end USB-only device, then it can probably only work as a bridge (and not as a router). In this mode, connecting to BigPond involves clicking a desktop icon, then entering your username and password manually.
In Windows XP, you'll use the built-in Network Connections Setup
In other systems (Win 98, ME, 2000), you'll use the Enternet Client.
You'll then receive a public IP address from BigPond. Both connection types (XP PPPoE and Enternet) can be set-up from the install menu on the Installation CD that came with your Kit. If you connect more than one computer to a bridge mode modem, you'll only be able to log on from one computer at a time unless you register for sub-accounts.
Step 3
You don't have to find and check every setting, as many modems will either default to the correct settings or detect the required settings automatically. Be aware that the terms used sometimes vary.

It doesn't address what I needed help with
I have a byo modem router, Netgear 6200. Both ethernet connected and wifi services are unacceptably slow. Same performance on the previous Telstra modem before it busted.
During troubleshooting, there is a link to a "full list of certified modems", approved by Telstra. When clicking the link it bring me here, so troubleshooting on how to set up a byo modem. There was no problem setting up my modem in the first place, I just wanted to see this list Telstra had of approved devices and there's nothing here. So no, this was not helpful as it does not address at all what I needed help with.

  • How do I find setup instructions for mid 2007 iMac20?

Just had HD replaced by Apple on my iMac20 mid 2007 Lion.  No data survived, & Time Machine drive also failed, so I have nothing but the very basics, cannot find set up instructions.  Apple named the disk Apple.  It doesn't show up on my desktop.  I'm not experienced on system changes.  The manual doesn't help - cant find setup assistant on my computer, either.  Can someone please steer me to the information?

I am using ML so it may be slightly different but for the Apple disk on the desktop try:- Finder/Preferences and select 'Show Hard disk on the desktop'.
For Mail again use the preferences in Mail to setup your mail accounts, you will need you account details and passwords. Your ISP may have instructions on its web site on how to setup mail for your particular ISP.

  • Setup instructions for airport extreme needed

Can anyone please suggest some good instruction sites or downloadable files for the airport extreme?
I tried to install one previously and it didn't work and I returned it, but I would like to try again.
I have a 2008 mac pro on ethernet, an xbox on ethernet and a 2007 mbp and two 2009 mbps plus a 3g iphone and a windows xp pc that I can currently use on my Belkin pre-N router with Virgin internet.
The pc has a Belkin usb N adapter for its connectivity.
The system works pretty well but I was wondering if I would get better speed or coverage from an airport extreme.
Two concerns that I have are that the airport extreme seems to be several years old now (2007?) and I am wondering if it is due for an update soon?
Also, to get faster speeds or less interference, will I be able to set the airport extreme to the 5 ghz band and still have connections to all my current hardware?
    Thanks for any advice.

That's hard to say. Sometimes speed and/or coverage on the 5 GHz band can be worse than on the 2.4 GHz band, depending on several factors.

According to Mactracker version 5.2.1 (not the latest version), the newest AirPort Extreme was released in October 2009.

The newest AirPort Extreme can use the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands at the same time.

  • Need step by step instructions for wireless security setup on my westell modem

I tried setting up security shortly after getting the modem, but I had trouble getting vista laptop to work with the security settings. I don't feel like figuring this all out. I would like step by step instructions for my modem. It is the Westell VersaLink 327W. If these instructions are on a web site somewhere that would be great.
    Thanks.

I think I just answered my own question. I exported to my desktop and then added it to my iDisk.
If anyone has any other tips, that would be great. Not sure how to set up the size of the frames.

need to be able to setup printing for my Ipad2. How do I find the instructions. THe printer is installed and capable, but I do not see it from either my iPad2 OR iphone 4.  Please advise.

    1. Make sure you've updated the printer firmware and successfully printed the test sheet from the printer.
    2. Make sure that your iPad is on the same network as your printer.
    3. Try printing from an app. To print this page from Safari, for example, go to the rectangle with the right- facing arrow on the toolbar, choose Print from the drop down menu, select your printer, and click Print.
Printing in apps is usually under the rectangle-arrow symbol, but is also sometimes found under the wrench- "tools" symbol.

  • Instructions for setting WRT54GS security to WPA2? Can't find them anywhere.

    Hi,
I'm an amateur at this, so please excuse this load of ignorant questions.
I have 2 PC clients, both Dell Dimensions 3.2GHz 1GB RAM, Wireless-G adapters. OS is Windows XP SP2
The router is a Linksys WRT54GS. I'm using the wireless ports only, at least when I'm not modifying the security settings. Then I use a temporary cable to connect one of the PC's to the router.
I also have a TiVo DVR series 3 with a wireless adapter.
The router came with a copy of Linksys Advisor. When I ran this software I was able to set the security level to WPA-Personal. However I could find no option to set the level to WPA2.
I know the TiVo supports WPA2 because I saw the option when I was configuring it for WPA-personal.
    My question(s):
Why doesn't EasyLink Advisor have an option to set the security level to WPA2? Is it just deficient, or does it check to see if the client PCs support WPA2 and disable the option if they don't?
How would I go about checking if my PCs support WPA2?
Finally, if I have to set the security to WPA2 manually, what is the procedure for doing this?
It's pretty easy to see how this can be done on the router's little web server pages; but as soon as I set the security to WPA2 there, I'm going to lose wireless connections to the PCs and I won't be able to access the router.
I know I can get there via a cable connection, but then what do I do? How do I set up my clients for WPA2?
What's a real pain about all this is that the EasyLink Advisor gives hints on how to optimize performance on secured wireless systems. It advises going to WPA2! But its Wizard doesn't give the option to do that. Its offline help file is minimal - it just says "use the wizard" and that's it.
The online help describes how to manually configure WPA but not WPA2. And the instructions for WPA are incomplete. They explain how to set up the router, but then do not explain how to use the enccryption keys when reconnecting client PCs. They just say to select the SSID in the wireless icon's connect menu, then click on connect. Where does the key go?
Thanks for your time in reading this,
    Big Al Mintaka

First of all, Windows XP SP2 can do WPA2, however it requires a patch.   Go to Microsoft Knowledge base, article ID=917021 and it will direct you to the patch.
Sadly, the patch is not part of the automatic Windows XP updates, so lots of people are missing the patch.
Additionally, be sure to give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
As to why EasyLink Advisor works the way it does - I just don't know.
To setup WPA2, you will first need to patch Windows XP, then, using a computer that is wired to the router, go into the router and change the encryption to "WPA2 - personal"  with  "AES".  Reboot modem and router.  You are correct that you will now loose your wireless connections until you update the settings in your wireless devices.
Next go into your computers and likewise change the encryption to "WPA2 - personal"  (= WPA2 = PSK2 ).   (Note:  You do not necesarily need to specify "AES" in your computers (or Tivo), but if you are given a choice between TKIP and AES, choose AES.)
To find these settings for your computers, go to the wireless software in your computer, and go to "Preferred Networks"  (sometimes called "Profiles" ).  There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.  Delete your current network  (this will clear any old settings).  Reboot computer.  Return to "Preferred Networks" and enter your network info (SSID, encryption, and key). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.
You will need to check the Tivo manual for how to change the Tivo to WPA2.

  • HP Instructions for Printing and Scanning Under Snow Leopard

HP has posted instructions for Snow Leopard users for printing, faxing, and scanning on HP printers.
While the scan button (and installed HP printer management software) may no longer work on the printer, you can still scan if you go through the Preview or Image Capture programs on your Mac to access the scanner.
I tried it on my HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless printer that was unable to scan after upgrading to Snow Leopard, and it worked.
HP has posted the printer instructions for Snow Leopard at: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01846935&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en &product=1153481
Hope this helps some of you. It worked for me.

You can download VueScan as a trial without paying for it unless you want to.
As for enabling scanning with Image Capture you need the proper driver. As a start I would ask HP's tech support if they can help you get it working. Apple does not write any printer or scanner drivers. They are provided by HP or other printer manufacturers. Apple packages them for distribution with OS X. It's quite possible that the current scanner driver for your model isn't compatible with SL.
If you understand modern technology then you have to appreciate the fact that most things become obsolete within months. This is certainly true of computers and their peripherals. Software developers cannot keep up the pace with the hardware. A two year old printer has been obsolete for more than a year already. Unless HP still sells and manufactures that model, they tend to lose interest with them. SL only arrived in October 2009 which is after your model was released. So HP needed to provide compatible drivers. If they have then perhaps the problem with yours is related to something else, but I don't know what that would be beyond completely uninstalling all the HP software then letting the OS figure out what to install. SL automatically discovered both my printer and scanner, then installed the drivers for each.

  • Error in the instructions for performing a silent install

There's an error in the instructions for performing a silent install of Photoshop Elements:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/silent-install-instructions-photoshop-element s-1.html
In step 9, the instructions say to use the following command line:
    start /wait "path to Setup.exe" /UL%LangCode% /V“SERIALNUMBER=%AOO volume license serial number%"
The correct command line, however, is this:
    start /wait "path to Setup.exe" /UL%LangCode% /V"SERIALNUMBER=%AOO volume license serial number%"
See the difference? Look closely at the character after the /V. In the instructions on the website, they put in a "curly quote" character. This obviously needs to be a straight quote.
Interestingly enough, the erroneous command line from the web site will actually work just fine as posted if all you are passing in the /V is the serial number. If, however, you wanted to add a "NODESKTOPICON=1" to disable the creation of a desktop shortcut, for example:
    start /wait "path to Setup.exe" /UL%LangCode% /V“SERIALNUMBER=%AOO volume license serial number% NODESKTOPICON=1"
then it fails to run silently.
I post this in the hopes that Adobe will fix the typo in their instructions and save other admins the hours of grief I've been put through today trying to get this working.

Check the response file where you define the SGA memory size for the new database.
You can also choose not to create the database at the installation and do it afterwards, making a specific response file for it. (I'd recommend specially this option. like that you can separate possible installation errors with the ones on the DB creation process).
    Good luck.

This is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. Canada still can't get it? Why does the US have access but not Canada. Can we expect it or is there another 3 month delay? Unbelievable that on day one I paid over $500 to buy this phone unlocked in Canada and still cannot use the most basic features like MMS. This is pathetic. Blackberry is better than this and they're barely alive
