Advance programming in pl/sql

hi
everybody
can anyone suggeste me book for advance programming in PL/SQL.
plz write author name and book name.
ur advice always appricated.
thanx

This may be difficult to answer because what one person would call "advanced" to another would be called "beginner" or "intermediate".
Have you looked through the Oracle PLSQL user guide and the Supplied Packages guide? these show how to use PLSQL and how it has been extended to cover a vast array of functionality

  • Scheduling of discoverer report via concurrent program or pl/sql code

    Hi All,
I am beginner on Discoverer Report. As per my client requirements we need to do the scheduling of discoverer report rather than manually run it every week. Also we need to do this job by help of concurrent program or pl/sql code. But I don’t know how to scheduled the discoverer report.
Please any one help me or provide pl/sql code.
    Thanks in Advance

This is one of those questions that has been asked on the forum for years now and the answer really hasn't changed in that - command line using .BAT files, command line using VBasic (Rod's expertise) and Java potential via Plus.
You can search the forum for the fully documented answers to this but basically:
    1. you can use Disco Desktop - NOT Plus or Viewer - with good ol' MS BAT files using the command line interface
    2. you can use Disco Desktop - NOT Plus or Viewer - with good ol' MS BAT files using VBasic calls
    3. I think - although never have seen - using Java command line interface to control it via a Java program
    oh yah ...
    4. if you're running Oracle Apps I believe you can get the Concurrent Manager to run the Disco report for you as well (another of Rod's expertises)

  • AI-Based Solutions programmed in PL/SQL, Examples of AI

Does any one know of some good examples of PL/SQL code used to implement AI-based problem solving?
-I'm taking an AI course and would like to program using PL/SQL and solve database related problems
-Any books and URL's would be much appreciated
Thank you in advance for your kind consideration!

As far as I know, Artificial Intelligence has not yet been achieved, although if someone's written a PL/SQL package that can beat Gary Kasparov at chess I'd like to see it.
My wife thought the movie was called "A One".

  • SQL Program better than SQL*Plus

    Hello
Do you know any program better than SQL*Plus for Oracle Database?
I also know TOAD and SQL Navigator, is there any other
If yes where can I download it ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Kurt.
RoboSource Control to my knowledge hasn't been developed in recent releases. It is essentially the same product that existed years ago. It works, but does not have a lot of users. Most people, including myself, prefer to use third party products such as Perforce, SVN.
As RoboSource Control is an old product and isn't widely used, I doubt whether anyone has tried using it on SQL Server Express 2012. That is not to say it won't work on it though.

  • Submitting XML Publisher Concurrent Program through PL/SQL

    Hi,
I am trying to submit a XML Publisher concurrent program through PL/SQL API fnd_request.submit_request.
The request gets fired and completes successfully but it doesn't pick up the default template attached to it. Its output is plain XML but expected output is PDF report.
However when I submit this report from SRS, it picks up the default template and gives output in PDF.
Please let me know what could be going wrong?
    Regards,
    Nitin

Check out the FND_REQUEST.ADD_LAYOUT API. You need to call it before you submit your report.
    Cheers,

  • Invoke Java Concurrent program from PL/ SQL

    Hi Experts,
I 've a requirement to invoke a Java Concurrent program form PL/ SQL. I 've defined default values for some of the parameters in the Java Concurrent program definition and some parameters do not have a default value. I would like to provide only the mandatory attributes that do not have a default value set from my PL/ SQL code. Can you please suggest how this can be achieved?
I tried giving null for those attributes. But, the java program takes a "" value instead of the default values. Any inputs here will be immensely helpful.
    Thanks,
    Ganapathi

Updating the correct format to be used for reference:
    The correct format is:
    fnd_request.submit_request(
    application => 'PDT_CODE',
program => 'PGM_NAME', --program IN varchar2 default NULL,
    start_time=> SYSDATE, --start_time IN varchar2 default NULL,
sub_request => FALSE, --sub_request IN boolean default FALSE
    argument1 => rowdata,
    argument2 => xxx
Note: the parameter name should be "argument1...n" (and not the actual argument name).
But I noticed that for parameters that are missed out, the default values still do not take effect. Can anyone please confirm this behavior?
    Thanks,
    Ganapathi

can anyone pls help how to set the db offline. currently  i  stopped the sql server services from services.msc and started the  sql server agent.
should i stop both services for moving from one drive to another?
note: I tried teh below solution but this didint work:
ALTER DATABASE <DBName> SET OFFLINE WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
    Update:
now am getting the message :
    Msg 15010, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_detach_db, Line 40
The database 'CMP_143' does not exist. Supply a valid database name. To see available databases, use sys.databases.

Unable to open the physical file "D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\CMP_143.mdf". Operating system error 2: "2(The system cannot find the file specified.)".

First you should have checked the database mdf/ldf name and location by using the command
    Use CMP_143
    Go
    Sp_helpfile
Looks like your database CMP_143 was successfully detached but mdf/ldf location or name was different that is why it did not get copied to target location.
Database is already detached that’s why db offline failed
    Msg 15010, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_detach_db, Line 40
The database 'CMP_143' does not exist. Supply a valid database name. To see available databases, use sys.databases.
    EXEC @RC = sp_attach_db @DBName, @DESTData, @DESTLog
Attached step is failing as there is no mdf file
    Msg 5120, Level 16, State 101, Line 1
Unable to open the physical file "D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\CMP_143.mdf". Operating system error 2: "2(The system cannot find the file specified.)"
    Solution:
Search for the physical files(mdf/ldf) in the OS and copy to target location and the re-run sp_attach_db with right location and name of mdf/ldf.

  • How to learn programming in PL/SQL in Oracle?

    Hello Guru's,
I want to learn the programming in PL/SQL. I am new and I work in ETL tools, I started learning PL/SQL and very much confused with all study material online.
I want to learn different ‘for loop' types and when we use each type. Please guide me which internet link is good to learn.
    Thanks,

PL/SQL is part of the ALGOL family of languages - most modern languages have ALGOL syntax and structure roots. Pascal, C, C++, Java, Python, Perl, Ada, C#, etc.
    These roots are:
    - functions
    - methods
    - passing by value or reference
    - processing structures like begin/end, if-else, case/switch and while/loop/until.
The point is that programming starts with understanding these roots - irrespective of the ALGOL family language being learned. And if you have not yet learned these basic concepts, do not know an existing ALGOL family language well enough to serve as a baseline, then you need to attend a basic programming course. These concepts need to be learned in a proper educational environment. You cannot expect to learn these concepts online and without personal assistance.
I want to learn different ‘for loop' types and when we use each type. Please guide me which internet link is good to learn.
Wrong. You should learn how to solve problems first - and then how to implement the solution programmatically.

  • The distribution agent failed to create temporary files in 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\COM' directory. System returned errorcode 5.

One of my replication job failed with below error, which means job failed because of permission issue on the folder. To resolve that, I have granted the permission and it started working fine. Now the question is as my job was running fine since long time
without any issue then how suddenly the permission of the folder got omitted automatically? I am sure that no one deleted the permission from the folder and as the server is part of SQL cluster no failover occurs.
Error:-The distribution agent failed to create temporary files in 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\COM' directory. System returned errorcode 5.

    Hi Rahul,
Error code 5 indicates that the error is "access is denied."  Please make sure that the COM folder is excluded from any antivirus scan that occurs on the system.
If the issue still persists, I recommend you use
Process Monitor to find out a bit more about the accounts and access requests involved. Then grant write permission to the exact COM folder for the account that is running the SQL Server Agent service. For more details, please review the following similar
    thread.

  • Tempdb in a subdirectory of \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\

    Hi,
SAP ERP 6.0 / Sol. Man. 4.0 Installation Guide say "after initial installation of the database software, the <b>tempdb</b> is located in a subdirectory of <b>\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server</b>. However later, when SAPinst builds and loads the database, it is transferred to a new <b>\TEMPDB</b> directory and extended to a size of 300 MB."
I finished the installation some days ago but I still see file tempdb.mdf & templog.ldf in
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\
May I delete these files because tempdb DB currently use the 2 files in <b>\TEMPDB directory</b>?
    Regards,
    Toan Do

    HI,
    <b>Moving the tempdb database</b>
As the tempdb database is constantly being used by the SQL Server, it cannot be moved using the same process described above (sp_detach_db, sp_attach_db). Instead, you must use the 'alter database modify file' command.
    a) First display all tempdb database files using the following command:
select convert(char(20),name) as name, filename from tempdb..sysfiles
    name      filename
    tempdev    d:\TEMPDB\TEMPDB.MDF
    templog    d:\TEMPDB\TEMPLOG.LDF
    (2 row(s) affected)
    b) Set a new storage location for the files by executing an ALTER DATABASE for each file:
    Example:
    alter database tempdb
          modify file (name=tempdev,filename='E:\NEW\tempdb.mdf')
    alter database tempdb
          modify file (name=templog,filename='E:\NEW\templog.ldf')
    c) Restart your SQL Server. The tempdb database is created again during each restart of the SQL Server. In this case, the files are now created in the new directory.
<b>d) Use the NT Explorer to delete the old database files for the tempdb.</b>
    e) We recommend that you make a full backup of the master database after the change.

  • Converting Cobol Programs to PL/SQL Packages/Procedures

Our company is trying to move away from Cobol and code all new projects and begin to convert old code to pl/sqlpackages/procedures. I was wondering if anyone in here had any experience in converting Cobol programs to Pl/sql. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    user8697075 wrote:

I have written a lot of Cobol and converted a lot of Cobol (not to PL/SQL though). But the mere thought of it, brings a song to my heart. :D
PL/SQL will be significantly faster and more scalable than using Cobol. It is also a lot simpler to design and code than using Cobol. Always found Cobol development very boring - except for the odd occasions when we had to design and write re-entrant Cobol code..
Just do not make the mistake of attempting a straight port - rewriting a Cobol program essentially line by line into a PL/SQL unit. Implementing row-by-row slow-by-slow processing into PL.SQL.
Without rethinking the process flow, the program design and so on, the resulting code unit will be little better than the original Cobol unit. Which begs the question, why bother and why use the new code then? In fact, seen this first hand back in the 80's when this approach was used to convert a pretty large system from Cobol to Natural. After many man years of development (and lots of money), the new system had all the problems of the old.. and was canned during the testing phase. Money, time and resources utterly and totally wasted.
