Advanced Networking Option over Win2K

I had high hopes for getting Oracle's Kerberos working over Win2K seamlessly, but the Oracle Advanced Networking Option only had information on using Kerberos over UNIX. With Win2K it wasn't apparent where even to begin. I have Enterprise 8i installed and a licensed Advanced Networking CD which I installed on both client and server, but I don't know where to begin to configure Kerberos for Oracle over Win2K. Anybody out there doing this?

Oracle8 for Linux is at the moment avlaible only in the standard
version. To use the andvanced networking option you need
the Enterprise Edition or Oracle8i. At the moment these products
aren't available for Linux. You'll have to wait for their release.

I want to set up a linux client that works with an Solaris based Oracle 8i EE server using an encrypted connection.
I have successfully done this with NT clients. However the Linux client responds an "ORA-12657: No algorithms installed"
Isn't Oracles Advanced Networking Option available for Linux?
If it is, how do I install it?

Check to see if ANO is linked in with SQL*Plus by running the following:
    cd to oracle_home/bin
    adapters sqlplus
If after running the adapters command and ANO does not show as being linked in,
    perform the following:
    1. Change directorys to oracle home/sqlplus/lib
    2. Run the following unix command to relink SQL*Plus:
    make -F ins_sqlplus.mk install
    3. Change to oracle home/bin directory.
    4. Re-run "adapters sqlplus" to verify that ANO is now linked in.

  • Unable to delete printers or view advanced network options

    Hi,
I'm running 10.9.1 (Mavericks) on my MacBook Pro 13 Retina, and for some time now I've not been able to do a number of actions:
    1. I cannot delete printers - I can add them, but not delete them. Clicking the "-" button next to a printer does nothing.
    2. I cannot view "Advanced" network preferences... clicking the button does nothing
    3. I cannot view "Edit Locations" in network preferences... again clicking the button does nothing
It feels like these preferences would normally bring up a password prompt.
I've tried rebooting, in fact it has been like this for many months. I've tried deleting com.apple.systempreferences.plist from ~/Library/Preferences and that didn't help.
Any advice greatly appreciated! Would prefer to not have to delete my user account to resolve this as I've got things set up quite nicely.
    Cheers,
    Alasdair

  • Is it possible to perform network data encryption between Oracle 11g databases without the advance security option?

Is it possible to perform network data encryption between Oracle 11g databases without the advance security option?
We are not licensed for the Oracle Advanced Security Option and I have been tasked to use Oracle Network Data Encryption in order to encryption network traffic between Oracle instances that reside on remote servers. From what I have read and my prior understanding this is not possible without ASO. Can someone confirm or disprove my research, thanks.

    Hi, Srini Chavali-Oracle
As for http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/options/advanced-security/advanced-security-ds-12c-1898873.pdf?ssSourceSiteId… ASO is mentioned as TDE and Redacting Sensitive Data to Display. Network encryption is excluded.
As for Network Encryption - Oracle FAQ (of course this is not Oracle official) "Since June 2013, Net Encryption is now licensed with Oracle Enterprise Edition and doesn't require Oracle Advanced Security Option." Could you clarify this? Thanks.

Now, my office use Firefox as default browser to access WebServer. And there are some policy that users must use ProxyServer. I do not want user change proxy setting in Firefox. How to disable Setting button in Tools - Options - Advanced - Network from windows registry?
    Thank you.

You can not use the Windows registry to disable items in Firefox. This link shows how to lock down Firefox proxy settings, change the values to suit your needs:
    http://www.stbernard.com/ip5kb/iPrism/WhatsNew/50SupportFiles/SupportFiles/IP0460.htm
One minor variation, in step 4 instead of adding that line to all-js, you can create a file called ''local-settings.js'' containing the line shown and save the file in the same folder as all.js

You can disable or remove that button, but that won't prevent users from making the changes on the about:config page directly.<br />
You can lock the related network.proxy prefs if you do not want users to change the connection settings.

I have a client with the same problem but on Win 7 Pro 64 bit. Some pages in Hotmail just show as a blank (absolutely nothing) with the green progress bar hanging forever. Seems to be linked to just clicking on a listed email in the inbox. Using a fully patched O/S and the latest Firefox release. Same page/process in IE8 and no problems.

  • No Guest Network Option in AP Utility for my TC

    Hi -
I have a TC connected via Ethernet to a Linksys Router. I wanted to eliminate the Linksys but need it to work with my Static IP, the TC could not be configured to do so. Thus I am using the TC as a wireless point and to back-up to using Time Machine.
While I am able to set up a normal secure Wireless Network, I now find that I do not have an option to set up a Guest Wireless Network which I really would like to have set up with an easy password for visitors so I do not need to provide the secure level password allowing them access to the main network. When first trying to use the TC I had the Guest Network option and set one up. But since I connected to the Linksys router, I no longer have the option.
Any suggestions as to why I no longer have the Guest Network option and if it is possible and how to create the Guest Wireless Network?
    Thank you,
    Marcantonio

    Marcantonio724 wrote:
Thanks for your reply. My TC is a Simultaneous Dual Band II which I had set up with the Guest Network initially but that got dropped when connecting to the Linksys as I needed to configure the TC in Bridge mode. Guest Network requires the Shared IP configuration and will not work in Bridge mode, as I have learned today.
    Yes, that's an unavoidable fact.
I am open to suggestions regarding TC and Static IP. Admittedly, the way I have my Linksys router configured was suggested to me, so I went with it, and it works as needed. But it may not be the ideal configuration which may be influencing the problem. I am using the DMZ Host to remotely access a database server. After doing some reading today, I am realizing that this may not be the securest route.
The catch is that I spent over 1 hour with Apple Care expert level advisers who could not get the TC ports open so I could access the server remotely. Thus I went the route of putting the Linksys back and connecting the TC as the wireless point. But I am unhappy that I have to give up the Guest Network.
I'm unclear as to why you need DMZ functionality and open ports to allow you to connect to a remote server. Normally those types of things are only needed to allow a local server to be reached from outside a LAN.

  • 'Forget this network' option not there.

    Hello–
Since upgrading my 3G iPhone to 2.0.2 (5C1) the 'Forget this network' option is not there in the 'Wi-Fi Networks' screen.
It's very annoying to say the least, anyone else have this problem?
    Any solutions??
    Thanks in advance.

    That makes sense, thank you.
The scenario i'm talking about is this - I'm at home, my home wi-fi isn't on so my phone asks me if i want to join a nearby network, this network is one i don't want to join (i also don't have the password for this network) so i say no. Before 2.0 & 2.0.2 i'm sure i would be able to go 'Settings' > WiFi > 'Choose a Network' > Find the network i don't want to join > tap the blue arrow > the click 'Forget this Network'. This would then stop my phone asking if i want to join this network.
From what you are saying (i think), is that i must connect to that network before i can instruct my phone to forget it?

  • Network option missing in system preferences

I have .mac and the sharing options in the system preferences window but no network option. Also when I select "open network preferences" on my airport list it doesn't open anything. I may of deleted the option but I am unsure. Can anyone help me out? I am not using time machine yet I need to get a external hard drive before I can lol
    Anyone help me please!

When you open the Network dialog, be sure Airport is turned on and check Ask to join new networks.
Also check "Show Airport status in menu bar" for convenience.
If you click A"Advanced" you should see your list of Preferred Networks unless you lost them.
Be sure under the TCP/IP tab you have selected "Using DHCP" and nothing else.
If your Airport system is encrypted, you either need the password and encryption type/level or you can turn off the encryption as a test (but don't leave it off).

JEM24 , your suggestion is included in:
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.

  • Randomly losing network connection over wireless

Shortly after installing the 10.4.5 software update, my G4 iBook with built-in Airport Extreme card has been losing connection with increasing frequency. Built-in Ethernet use is unaffected. I'm calling this problem thrash-and-drop.
    1. When it's losing signal, processor activity goes through the roof. I had Activity Monitor running during a thrash-and-drop. kernel_task CPU consumption goes from under 1% before the event, to over 80% during the thrashing, and back under 1% after the thrashing stops. The activity is so bad the cursor can't be controlled: using the track pad sends the pointer all over the screen or nowhere at all.
    2. This has been observed to occur with two different wireless base stations: A Linksys WRT54G and an older SMC 802.11b router. Either router is within 10 feet of the computer. Only one is running at a time. There are no other base stations in range.
    3. Another iBook G4 (OS 10.3, Airport Extreme card (not built-in)), sitting next to it, shows no change and its wireless behavior is unaffected.
Initially, this seemed more likely to happen when Safari was loading Flash-heavy pages. And after thrashing and dropping a connection, it was able to reconnect after either a reboot or a five minute sleep. Currently, it can't connect to a base station for more than a minute. Most recently, it thrashed and dropped while I was selecting the base station to use. This is true regardless of the application running. In fact, it will thrash-and-drop when there are no user applications running at all, after a fresh reboot.
I've tried the following things to address the problem. None have affected the thrash-and-drop problem. Admittedly, most of this is random:
    1. Back up and delete network preferences in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
    2. Turn off IPv6 in System Preferences/Network
    3. Back up and delete network preferences in ~/Library/Preferences (com.apple.NetInfoManager.plist and com.apple.NetworkUtility.plist)
Has anybody else seen this problem? I want to blame it on the 10.4.5 upgrade but I haven't seen anybody else complaining about 10.4.5 doing this to them. If there's something I can do to fix this in a software setting, I'd much prefer that to yet another roadtrip to the Apple store.
    1.33 GHz G4 iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi!
I have the same problem of randomly losing network connection over wireless, though mine is hardly related to surfing.
I have an external storage drive in which I use for backup of my stuff, and I access the drive via my modem, using the airport. Of late, I noticed that when copying files from my iBook to the external drive, the connection would suddenly drop before the transfer is completed. This began to occur with increasing frequency, particularly when transferring large files.
I have since abandoned wireless connection, and reverted to my trusty cable. Still, I admit that I'm really curious about the cause of the apparent lack of reliability with my wireless connection. Has it something to do with the airport?
