AdvancedDatagrid Tab Key issue

Hello, I have an advancedDatagrid which contains many editable column (InpuText) and each column has an itemrender. I see that the normal TAB key navigation behaivor disapear, can any one told me what's the best way to keep the Tab (shift+Tab) navigation behaivor between editable cells ? Thank you

I am having a simular problem. The software I am training
requires the user to use tab between fields. I changed the shortcut
key on text entry boxes. Somewhere on this forum (I cannot find it
now) I found a workaround that had me change the HTML file
Between the writeDocument <object> </object>
tags, add the following '<param name="SeamlessTabbing"
value="false">'+
when I publish without quiz reporting this worked fine. (it
matches the html of the other lines in the writeDocument But when I
publish with quiz reporting in AICC the HTML codes between the
writeDocument is different.
'<param name=quality value=high> \n'+
I altered the code I show above to match the html written by
captivate with no results. Any thoughts?

  • DATAGRID FOCUS ISSUE: Focus got lost, while moving from one cell to another cell using tab key.

    Problem: Focus got lost, while moving from one cell to another cell using tab key.
    Example: In an AdvanceDataGrid, there are three columns having custom ItemRenderer with Spark TextInput control (editable=true & focusEnabled=true).
    When I try to move the focus in with in 2nd, 3rd & 4th column using tab key, focus got lost. Most of the time it’s working, but some time it doesn’t work. There’s no clue as to how may rows/columns the focus has jumped to; or whether the focus has gone out of the data grid altogether.
    Observations: I am not sure whether this problem is because of custom component implementation or it is because of some issue related to Flex Component.
    It only occurs when we perform some actions like some server call, some complex logic execution etc. at the focus out event of itemrenderer.
    There is one property of datagrid i.e. editedItemPosition which contains row & column index of datagrid. On the focus out event, it gets null when focus got lost. We tried to set it, but it didn’t work.
    Steps Performed:-
    1. Currently focus is in 2nd column i.e. Apply to #.
    2. Once I press tab key from 2nd column, it goes to 3rd column which is correct.
    3. Now if I press tab key from 2nd column i.e. Payment #, focus should go to 3rd column, but it goes out of data grid and set the focus of button which is outside data grid.

  • Keyboard Control FAIL: Using TAB key on websites directs cursor to nowhere!!! Why?

    (using 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 MAC MINI, OS X Lion 10.7.5)
    I have always felt safer using the keyboard rather than mouse-clicking on search fields etc. (Open Firefox, hit command+L to the URL I want to go to, then hop to next field with TAB key).
    Most notably frustrating example is with using Google, this has not worked right for some time. Say that you to start to search for something on google "main page" and then it goes to the search results page... You go to edit your search or type your next search and the cursor is flashing inside (but off center) of the search field and inputting text is not an option. Also you may instictively hit ESC (while in search field) when you are being given suggestions you don't want, and then the cursor moves again to this no-man's land in between fields.
    The other KEYBOARD control issue that I have found is this:
    Sometimes you cannot Close Window or even Quit Firefox with the usual keyboard shortcut. Usually when a few windows or tabs are open, or when there is some pop-up survey etc. on page. You can usually ALT+TAB to another open program and then back, and then you can close window or application. But that seems really sketchy to me! This happens all the time on major websites. You can go File-> Close Window or File->Quit, but when you use the same keyboard command the file menu just flashes with an "error tone."

    The TAB key thing was the same in safe mode. Actually I should add/correct, regarding that google search example: when the cursor is in "inbetween fields" positions, actually it lets you type at the END of the text that you had typed in the field (even though the cursor is blinking before the text). and if you "Command A" to replace the text in the search field while cursor in this position, it instead selects all the rest of the text OUTSIDE the field. Just doesn't make any sense. I think this happens with fields on Facebook as well.
    That first issue is just very annoying because it comes up every day and I never get used to it. I would be actually be curious to hear from someone whom this DOES NOT happen to.
    The 2nd issue I mentioned occurs more randomly, and seems more definately a Firefox issue. (When you can only close a window or quit from the drop down menu with the mouse, Command W and Command Q just give an error beep)

  • In the expression editor dialog box my TAB key doesn't function correctly

    This is bizarre behavior that seems to have started recently.
    In Visual Studio 2012, an SSRS project, any expression editor dialog:
    The tab key doesn't work right.
    Open the expression editor and:
    * I see a blinking cursor and I can type in the expression box.
    * If I hit the tab key, the cursor disappears and I cannot type.  I appear to lose focus in the editor but focus doesn't appear to go anywhere else in the dialog box.
    * If I hit the tab key a 2nd time, the cursor is still gone and I cannot type.
    * If I hit the tab key a 3rd time, I can finally type again and note that I am now
    3 tabstops in.  In other words it seems like the tabs were working but I lost the ability to type anything until I "tab" 3 magical times.
    I can work around this by hitting tab key then grabbing the mouse and clicking where the cursor SHOULD be which returns focus to the text area.

  • How do you navigate dialogue boxes using the tab key in Photoshop CS6 on Mac OS X Mavericks?

    I know that seems really 101 and obvious, but I worked in Photoshop on a PC for many years, and using the tab key to navigate through every field/radial button/dropdown menu/etc. was never an issue. On the Mac OS X however, it only navigates through certain fields within a dialogue box. And before the guaranteed suggestion to change my Mac OS X Keyboard preferences to allow full keyboard access to "All Controls" instead of "Text Boxes and Lists Only", I have already tried this setting which did not resolve my issue.
    Does/has anyone out there worked between both platforms and had this issue as well? I'm a Mac guy through and through, but I must say, this is the one thing that I think PC has a slight edge on. It's incredibly frustrating to have my keyboard workflow interrupted because I can't simply tab over to a certain field that is in a dialogue box which I'm currently working in...
    Here are my details:
    Photoshop CS6 (13.0.6)
    Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)
    Applies to all filetypes as the issue is regarding dialogue boxes and not files themselves.
    No error message.
    Normal use.
    It works on PC, but not on Mac.
    2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 Processor
    8 GB of memory
    719 GB of space available on my main HD
    This has never worked in any version of Photoshop I have used on any version of Mac OS X, but has worked consistently on every version of Photoshop that I have used on every version of Windows I've used (up to Windows 7)
    I hope this provides enough information to get the ball rolling on this. I fear that there is no answer that will resolve the issue, but before I throw in the towel, I figured it was worth trying this forum since my web searches have turned up absolutely nothing of help.
    Thanks in advance for your time and help.
    Best,
    Tim

    Thanks for your input.  Since Safe Mac's Adware Removal tool has done a very good job of cleaning out the junk and
    letting me run better, I'm happy for now.
    However, I appreciate your judgement and I am working on evaluating Safari vs FireFox vs Chrome.  I've had some trouble using FireFox with
    LastPass which works very well under Chrome.  But that is only one data point.  Most of my Ram troub;e os related to the number of windows
    and tabs I open.  I've tried comparing the three browsers for how back each reacts.
    I multiply windows and tabs because as I surf the web, I discover things I want and don't want to lose them.  However, I need a tool more useful
    and structured than bookmarks to be able to record things of interest to make them easy to return to and find later.

  • Enter key instead of TAB key

    Hi folks,
    I'd like to make the ENTER key behave the same way as the TAB key in
    the system I'm developing. I thought I would be able to do it by setting
    the ENTER as a function key (using Window.SetAsFunctionKey), and
    then after detecting an ENTER key press, request focus on the current
    fieldwidget's 'NextTabField'. However, this attribute defaults to NIL unless
    you override the default TAB sequence. And I don't really fancy setting
    the Next and Prev TabField for every onscreen field.
    Anyone done this before using a simpler method?
    By the way, I don't really want to get into a long thread about whether it is
    good practice to bypass Windows (TM) standards or not. We require
    fast data entry, and keyboard entry is essential for that.

    Duncan,
    The application we are building will replace legacy application and had similar
    requirements to accommodate the current users. We solved this problem by creating a
    special frame, appropriately named as the "Terminal Frame". It is distributed as
    part of the Scaffolds framework.
    The Terminal frame implements ENTER instead of TAB key. As you know the tabbing
    order in a terminal frame (top to bottom, left to right) is different than windows
    tabbing order (left to right, top to bottom). The Terminal frame solves the tabbing
    problem by constructing a "field traverse list" which includes all the fields in a
    window including nested views ordered according to their X,Y co-ordinates. It is a
    recursive method works on the same lines as described by Sakharov, Nickolay in
    earlier mail. The method also sets the NextTabField, PrevTabField references for
    each field in the traverse list.
    This framework is working very well for us. In a terminal frame world, you still
    have some user training issues as some of the fields (OutlineField, DropList,
    ArrayField, CheckBoxe etc.) behave differently for ENTER and TAB keys. But these
    are minimal compared to a complete change in style.
    Hope this is helpful.
    Good Luck,
    Shirish

    did slow them down, which it won't, they would never lose enough time to be
    worth the work that it would take to implement.Jeanne,
    Thanks for your reply (even though it doesn't help me!).
    Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating we abandon the TAB key
    functionality in favour of the ENTER key. I just want to ADD the ENTER
    key as a navigational aid for our 'legacy' users (and we have many). If it
    is done right, there should be no need to tell the user about it. Their
    transition to the new product would be virtually painless.
    Since I posted my original question I've realised that the cost of
    implementation is actually fairly low. And this is why. I have just
    discovered that the default tab order defined by Forte (left to right, top to
    bottom) is essentially useless for most of the windows we will be creating.
    Therefore, we will need to override it by explicitly setting the
    "NextTabField" and "PrevTabField" attributes of our input fields in virtually
    every window. As I am writing the framework for our new product, I will
    have to implement the facility to do this in the framework itself. And if we
    have our tab order defined, then adding the ENTER key functionality is
    minimal extra effort (see my original post). In fact, if I implement it in my
    "CoreWindow" (the root of my windows framework inheritence tree), then
    no-one will ever have to deal with it again.
    The TAB key is not even much of a windows data-entry standard. Many
    of our customers have defined secondary systems using Microsoft
    Access, and it uses the ENTER key (along with the TAB key) to move
    from field to field. Will these customers not complain that they cannot
    use the ENTER key to move between fields if we don't implement it?
    As we do not have the resources to completely rewrite our existing
    COBOL system (over 2 million lines of code) in one go. We will be rolling
    out the new system module by module. This means that a lot of our users
    will be switching between the new windows interface and the text-based
    unix telnet sessions. When I switch back and forth between windows
    editors and 'vi' on the unix host, I experience first-hand how mixed
    navigational facilities can hamper productivity!
    Anyway, I was just hoping there might be a little setting somewhere in
    Forte to switch this on, but as no-one has pointed it out, it seems unlikely.
    Thanks again for your input, lively discussion is always welcome.

  • Using the Tab Key in Simulations

    Hi, I am new to this forum and new to Captivate 5.
    I am creating online courses that teach people how to use our company's software programs so I use Captivate simulations often.  We use Captivate to record the simulations and then we use Articulate Presenter to create the course.
    Problem 1
    I still can't figure out how to use Tabs smoothly with Text Entry boxes all together. I've been reading all of the forum information and trying everything and the Tab won't work correctly for me.
    I have only placed one TEB on a slide but when I get to the second TEB on the next slide, I start typing the text and the system moves forward to the next action before I finish typing the text. Or, I have to press the Tab key twice to get to the next TEB on the next slide. I am totally confused.
    Problem 2
    I have been able to successfully create a simulation using the Enter key to validate text entry boxes.  I publish the simulation and use the swf file to create a web object that gets placed in Articulate. The web object holds the swf file and the html file below.
    Here is an example of the html file:
    This works just fine when I use the Enter key to validate text entry boxes. However, we decided to use the Tab key and now I have to deal with the seamless tabbing issues in Captivate. I figured out how to add the seemless tab info to the published file, Can I use the Captivate html file to create a web object? If so, how do I do that?
    Please help!!

    I have had success using TAB in Captivate 5.
    I learned:
    Dont put Text Entry Boxes on the timeline appearing at 0 seconds. Have them appear at 0.2. This gives it time to load.
    Make sure they are on the top layer.
    Appear for the duration of the slide, no transitions, and pause until the user clicks.
    I noticed if you type fast (as the learner) it kinda messes everything up. Add a distraction so you learner slows down on their typing speed.
    Also make sure you have the update installed. There were some bugs fixed in the TEB area.
    Good luck. email if you have any more questions.

  • Tab key in the ActiveX AcroPDF crashes application

    Hello everybody,
    I wonder whether any of you had this problem working with an ActiveX which displays a PDF file.  This is the situation:
     -  I've designed a VI which displays a pdf file in the ActiveX container (see attached) using LabVIEW 2009 Proffessional SP1.  I'm running in Windows XP, and I've got installed Adobe Reader 8.
     - When running this VI using LabVIEW, everything works fine.
     - I've build an executable, which works perfect in the computer where LabVIEW is installed.
    Now, I try to execute the same executable in a clean computer which has installed Adobe Reader 9 and LabVIEW Run-Time 9.  It seems to work fine, and the pdf is perfectly displayed, with all the Adobe options working well.  But the problem shows when pressing the "Tab" key.  The executable crashes with the typical windows screen which says that an error has been detected and that the program will be closed.  And that is what happens.  The application is closed suddenly,
    I remember to have seen few months ago a post with the same issue.  A bug in LabVIEW 8.5 would be the reason and I thought that the problem would dissapeared when getting the LabVIEW 2009.  But as far as I can see, it didn't, and I cannot find this post again.
    Thanks in advance for any help you might give me, and if you need further details of the VI or versions used, just let me know.  I hope somebody came accross with this issue before and can give me a hand.
    Regards,
    Dani

    Well, that seems like a definite LabVIEW bug to me.  I just reproduced it (NOT as an executable) with a simple self-contained program.  I've attached a code snippet below.  While it is running I pressed the Tab several times.  Eventually it locks up and closes LV without any notice at all.  It's a very repeatable crash, for what that's worth.

  • Tab key no longer moves between text fields on a web page

    Since upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4.9, my Safari v. 2.0.4 (419.3) is suffering from a bizarre symptom: the tab key no longer moves the insertion point among the various single-line text-entry fields on a page, but rather inserts a tab character within the field! Shift-tab, which used to move the insertion point back one field, does nothing.
    Interestingly, when in a block-text field -- such as the one I'm using to compose this message topic -- the tab key takes me to the next field as expected. It also works when the insertion point is in the URL field or Google search field in the browser interface itself. It's only when I'm typing into a web page itself that it doesn't behave properly.
    Makes filling out long forms a real pain.
    Surely this isn't happening to everyone, or someone else would have mentioned it ... but can anyone reproduce it? Got any suggestions for clearing it up? I'm not running any exotic Safari add-ons, just the usual complement of plug-ins, none of which seem relevant to this problem, which involves normal HTML web pages.
    Thanks in advance for any help.
    G4 QuickSilver 1.467GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    There were no file changes to Safari in the 10.4.9 update. There were a number of file changes to the System Library, however, these types of changes usually affect applications across-the-board. MacFixit has a special report and related issues and work-arounds on their site. Not sure if you need to be a subscribed member to see the information, however, it might be worth a look.
    FWIW, I haven't seen any mention about the problem you reported on their forum, or home page report.
    I suggested your marking the thread "answered" as I thought you were complete with the thread given the disappearance of the problem. I'll be curious to see who else posts a similar problem.

  • Tab key dosent work on some machines

    Hi,
    We have a swing application in which we use tab key to navigate input fields. The problem is that on some machines the tab key does not do anything where on some it works perfectly.
    Could it be a JRE version or any other issue? (OS is Windows 2000 on all machines)
    Any input will be much appreciated.
    Thanks,

    What version are you using? 1.4 or 1.3.1

  • How to set current row in table after use tab key on inputText

    Hello all,
    My first post .., I'm newbie in ADF and I will try to explain my problem.
    For the moment we use ADF 11g (11.1.1.4), in a jsff page I have a table with an inputText column.
    On the valueChangeListener of the inputText, I invoke a method in a viewScope bean which call an EJB method, make some services in the EJB on the line modified. After that I refresh the VO and the table (because others values on the line have been modified) and reset the focus on the same inputText modified by the user with javaScript because focus was lost after refresh.
    So far, everything works fine.
    When I use the arrow keys to change the selected row in the table, it's work fine (focus is still in the next or previous inputText), but if user try to use tab key to change the current line, the inputText on the next line have the focus but the current row of the table is not changed (I think it's normal).
    My question : how can I change the current row after tab key pressed in this case ?
    I don't know if it's really clear, not easy to explain, don't hesitate to ask more details.
    Thanks in advance.

    Use a client event to listen for the keyboard entry and intercept the tab. The use af:serverListener to call the server to set the rowKey on the table and issue a PPR for the table to re-paint

              LOGGER.debug("START changeSelectedRow");
              RowKeySet oldRowKeySet = myTable.getSelectedRowKeys(); // get oldRowKeySet
              if (oldRowKeySet == null) {
                   if (LOGGER.isDebugEnabled()) {
                        LOGGER.debug("oldRowKeySet is null");
                   return;
              RowKeySetImpl newRowKeySet = new RowKeySetImpl(); // The new RowKeySet use to change the selectedRow
              DCIteratorBinding bindingIterator = ADFUtils.findIterator(MY_ITERATOR);
              bindingIterator.setRangeSize(-1);
              // set the new index of the current row.
              int index = bindingIterator.getCurrentRowIndexInRange();
              if (index < bindingIterator.getAllRowsInRange().length - 1) {
                   index++;
              bindingIterator.setCurrentRowIndexInRange(index);
              // get the current row after changed the index
              Row currentRow = bindingIterator.getCurrentRow();
              if (currentRow != null) {
                   ArrayList nextLst = new ArrayList(1);
                   nextLst.add(currentRow.getKey());
                   newRowKeySet.add(nextLst);
                   // set the new selectedRow
                   myTable.setSelectedRowKeys(newRowKeySet);
                   SelectionEvent selectionEvent = new SelectionEvent(oldRowKeySet, newRowKeySet, myTable);
                   selectionEvent.queue();
                   AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(myTable);
              if (LOGGER.isDebugEnabled()) {
                   LOGGER.debug("END changeSelectedRow");

  • Handling keyTyped events in JTable for TAB key

    In my app, I have a JTable. Some columns are non-editable.
    I have attached a keyListener to the table and have overridden keyTyped() and keyReleased() methods.
    In keyReleased(), I do something depending on the key code. For example: if its the VK_DELETE, I delete the row. If its some other user configured key, then I show a popup dialog where the user can enter some data, etc...
    In keyTyped(), I first check if the column is one of the specific columns. Then I get the keyChar. After this, I show a dialog and pre-populate a JTextField on this dialog with that keyChar.
    My issue is that 'TAB' key events arrive in keyTyped() and not in keyReleased(). As a result, the dialog is shown and the tab takes place inside the JTextfield which is incorrect.
    I would like to ignore TAB keyTyped events. When I look up the keyCode in keyTyped() method, it is 0. So there is no way for me to tell what key was typed.
    How can I ignore TAB events in my keyTyped() method?
    thx

    I now do the following to determine if TAB key has been typed
    public void keyTyped(KeyEvent e) {
    char c = e.getKeyChar();
    if (c == KeyEvent.VK_TAB) {
    Is this correct ?

  • Tab key all of a sudden is Command-Tab in client windows...

    All of a sudden, whenever I use the Tab key when connected to any client, it acts as Command - Tab. For example, when I attempt to tab to another field in some form and press Tab, it brings up the open applications thing and scrolls through them. If I then press any other key, it acts as Command - "(whatever key I just typed)". If I press a k key, it acts as command - k. This only happens after pressing the tab key.
    So basically, after pressing the tab key, all subsequent key presses act as if the command key is also being held down.
    I have to disconnect and re-connect to that client to get it to stop doing that.
    I do not see anything in the prefs to help with this. I did see one other forum topic about this but there was no fix posted. Sticky keys show nothing strange is going on with my keyboard. This is definetly an ARD issue. All local tab and command keys work as expected.
    Thank you very much for any info regarding this.

    I found the issue... I use TypeItForMe, and part of the instructions for typeitforme is to turn on "Enable access for assistive devices" in Universal Access preferences. When this is turned on, in ARD when connected to a users machine and controlling it, if the Tab key is pressed all subsequent key presses act as if the Command key is also pressed.
    I have turned off "Enable access for assistive devices" and now ARD behaves normally. However, I am unable to use TypeItForMe the way it's supposed to work.
    So, not sure if it's a bug or normal behavior, but sure wish it wouldn't do that...

  • JTable tab key navigation with JComboBox Cell Editors in Java 1.3 & 1.4

    Hello - this is one for the experts!
    I have a JTable which has an editable JComboBox as one of the cell editors for a particular column. Users must be able to navigate through the table using the tab key. After editing a cell a single tab should advance the cell selection to the next column and then the user should just be able to start typing to populate the cell.
    However, i've come across some really frustrating differences between the Swing implementation of JDK1.3.1_09 and JDK 1.4.2_04 which means this behaviour is very different between versions!....
    1. Editing Cells and then advancing to the next column using tab.
    Using standard cell editors (based around JTextFields) in 1.3.1 the user has to press tab twice to traverse to the next column after editing. However, in 1.4.2 a single tab key is enough to move to the next column after editing.
    2. Editable JComboBox editors and and advancing to the next column using tab.
    Using JDK 1.3.1, having entered some text in the editable combo it takes 2 tabs to transfer the selected cell to the next column. With 1.4.2 a single tab while editing the editable combo ends editing and transfers the selection out of the table completely?!?
    With these 2 issues I don't know how to make a single tab key reliably transfer to the next cell, between java versions. Can anyone please help me?!??!
    (i've attached test code below which can be run in both 1.3 and 1.4 and demonstrates the above behaviour.)
    package com.test;
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.swing.table.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.event.*;
    public class TableTest4 extends JFrame {
         private JTable table;
         private DefaultTableModel tableModel;
         public TableTest4() {
              initFrame();
          * Initialises the test frame.
         public void initFrame() {
              // initialise table
              table = new JTable(10, 5);
              tableModel = (DefaultTableModel) table.getModel();
              table.setPreferredScrollableViewportSize(table.getPreferredSize());
              table.setRowHeight(22);
              JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(table);
              getContentPane().add(scrollPane);
              JButton dummyBtn1 = new JButton("Dummy Button 1");
              JButton dummyBtn2 = new JButton("Dummy Button 2");
              // initialise frame
              JPanel btnPanel = new JPanel(new GridLayout(2, 1));
              btnPanel.add(dummyBtn1);
              btnPanel.add(dummyBtn2);
              getContentPane().add(btnPanel, BorderLayout.SOUTH);
              // set renderer of first table column to be an editable combobox
              JComboBox editableCombo = new JComboBox();
              editableCombo.setEditable(true);
              TableColumn firstColumn = table.getColumnModel().getColumn(0);
              firstColumn.setCellEditor(new DefaultCellEditor(editableCombo));
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              TableTest4 frame = new TableTest4();
              frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
              frame.pack();
              frame.setVisible(true);

    Run the above code in 1.3 and 1.4 and you can see that after editing a cell, the tab key behaviour works differently between versions.
    I don't believe by adding a key listener to the cell editors will have the desired effect.
    I've read other posts and from what i've read it looks like the processKeyBinding method of the JTable can be overridden to manually handle key events.
    Has anyone done this to handle tab key presses so that the same java app running under 1.3 and 1.4 works in the same way ??? I would really appreciate some advice on this as its very frustrating !
