Advice on A3 office/graphics grade printers/copiers

I work for an architects firm and we've had quite a bad experience with A3 copiers/printers.
One of our main problems is that we share our machine with a Quantity Surveyor; they need fast warm-up/fast print/black and white. And we need colour. These two aspects seem to be mutually exclusive.
We originally had a Canon iR2200 which suited the QS fine but we needed colour so we went for the Canon CLC 3220, but it can take 6 minutes to warm up after being left for a while, and the feeder is hugely inferior to the iR2200 which has caused us no end of problems. (we're thinking about upgrading to the CLC 4040 or CLC 5151, which have the more reliable feeder, but they still take a long time to warm up). In the process we've also been offered a Xerox 7335 which seems pretty good with regard to drivers, warm up time and ppm, but I'm not sure about colour quality.
So, unless someone can advise on a machine that can marry these conflicting needs we were thinking of going back to having a black and white copier and a separate colour printer. Has anyone got any perls of wisdom? And can anyone recommend a good (mac-optimised) A3 colour laser printer?

I am posting here because I am hoping someone else will respond re: a Xerox 7335. We recently got one at the office and are very pleased with its print quality, but I have had problems getting it to work correctly with Leopard. Has anyone set this up successfully? In particular I need to be able to attach account numbers (user ID numbers) to print jobs.
Thanks.

  • Sales Office is not being copied from Sales Contract

    Dear SD Gurus,
In DP90(Resource-Related Billing Request), order type LV (Debit Memo Request for Contract) is generated. In the complection procedure, I have set sales office as a mandatory field. I'm expecting the sales office to be copied from sales contract when I generate ZLV(when I run DP90) but sales office is not being copied over. The strange thing is, it will only work for certain sales areas where the sales office will be copied from sales contract but not for some.
In the service order, I can see the sales org data where the sales office appears but it doesn't get copied to LV.
    Any idea what has happened?
    Thanks,

  • Advice on best office grade A3 graphics colour printer/copier

Currently we lease a Canon iR2200 (which is black & white) via IKON in the UK:
    http://www.canon-europe.com/ForWork/Products/Office_Print_Copy_Solutions/Digital_IRSeries/iR2200/index.asp?ComponentID=25508&SourcePageID=26027
    http://www.uk.ikon.com/
But we're looking for a colour machine (we're an architects office). We've been offered the Canon CLC3220 by IKON, with a EFI Fiery Printer Controller (most features of which is a Windows only as I can work out).
The thing is IKON only supply Canon and Ricoh machines, and they warned me off Xerox, I can't remember his reasons. In any case I'm wondering if there's a printer/copier of this sort of grade with better support for Mac OS X? For instance, the DocuColor 240/250 has a fully Mac OS X version of the EFI Fiery Printer Controller (but is probably out of our price range):
    http://www.office.xerox.com/color-multifunction/docucolor-240-250/spec-enus.html
I guess the question is, can anyone recommend other printer/copier lease companies in the UK, who are graphics and mac-centric.

At first they didn't like it. We were using a CLC1180 with a Fiery Z800, but it was needing to be serviced regularly (jams and colour drop-out). So we updated to the iR C3220 and the first thing the folks noticed was that the prints were flat compared to the glossy output from the CLC. The reason was explained to them about the different toner used on the new printer and therefore there was no longer a need for additional silicone in the fuser. However, it took some time before they accepted the new look.
From a network/functionality perspective the machine was fine. We had few issues, apart from Quark and the now documented Fiery cups filter error. What the users liked the most was the ability to proof on heavy stocks (200gsm) and print on SRA3.
But now we have the 5180, everyone is using the new toy rather than playing with the 3220 which is still connected as a backup.

  • APC Power Backup Advice for Small Office

I wasn't sure where to post this but I was hoping someone would not my pointing me to the right forum or offering some advice.
I am trying to put the finishing touches on a conversion to mac and have been looking at buying a Power Backup in part for the power part (no crashes and safe shutdown) but also for surge protection.
I have a MacPro (and a monitor), a Time Machine (for the MBP), 2 - 1TB WD externals, a 500 GB Iomega External (for the MBP), a 3DConnection spaceball device and 2 printers on the "desktop". And then I have a 1 TB Seagate External that I keep plugged in on another table for backing up the MacBookPro now and then.
    A. Is there anything else (other than temporary power and surge protection) I should be looking for when purchasing such a piece of hardware?
    B. Should I be getting everything on the "desktop" plugged in to a backup device such as this and if so how do I calculate which device to buy?
    C. Is it a crime to leave the 1 TB Seagate that is not conveniently located off this backup/surge protection system? I suppose it would be wise to unplug it and only plug it in when I am running a backup?
TIA for any advice. It's been a long haul and I'd love to make sure I am finishing this with some pro level advice/approval.

...C. Is it a crime to leave the 1 TB Seagate that is not conveniently located off this backup/surge protection system? I suppose it would be wise to unplug it and only plug it in when I am running a backup?- external hard drives use very little power, you can keep it plugged in to the power back up or not. Since you're not using it often, the odds of it suffering a surge power problem are rare...
A couple of things to consider in that scenario: first, while it's not necessarily true of all external drives, some, such as LaCie, are noted for the early failure of their power bricks. Since I've been using  a LaCie power brick for over ten years without a problem, I suspect that's because it's not connected to a power source except when it's in actually in use. Even when an external drive is not actually spinning, the power source is still live and perpetual cooking is probably not good for its health. I follow that rule with all devices that use power bricks, including Seagate and WD external backup drives and no brick has ever quit.
Second, the Seagate external drives I've used tend to run very hot because of poor or nonexistent ventilation. Indeed, the SMART record of one of them showed a heat failure with a 155 degree F. reading "in the past." Especially if leaving the drive plugged in means the drive is actually on, keeping it unplugged except when it's in use is a good idea.

  • Importing Outlook 2010 Mail account settings from one copy of Office 2010, to another copy of Office 2919

I am trying to export my E-mail ACCOUNT settings from one copy of Outlook 2010 so that I can import them in another copy of Office 2010 on a different computer.  Again, BOTH computers have Office 2010 on them.  While I can move the PST file, my
E-mail account information never comes across.  How can I do that without having to enter each account separately.  Also is it normal for the E-mail accounts to show up as DATA FILES rathan than E-MAIL FILES?  I've never come this in the past.
    Thanks.

As JHarris1993 said, this is BOSS! Thank you.
I used this solution to recreate a profile I was using under one Windows 7 account in another account on the same machine. The profile was successfully recreated but I noticed that the email accounts in the profile were still pointing to the data files from
the other account, which is not surprising at all.
Unfortunately no easy way exists for re-pointing email accounts to alternate file locations. I have five different email accounts in this profile (2 IMAP, 2 Outlook Hotmail Connector and one Exchange), and looks like there are solutions and workaround for

  • Advice for placing rotated graphics in a table

In order to help save some space, I would like to place 4 graphs in a 4 row x 2 column table and have the page in a landscape format (see attached PDF for the desired layout diagram).  What type of cell should be used for the figure titles to get the desired results: table cell, text frame, anchored frame, other?
I tried a table cell but I do not know how to fix the row height.  Rotating the text was easy.  But it is the row height since I am making this landscape, right?  As I keep typing the figure title, the table row height just keeps growing.
Perhaps I should not be trying to place the graphics and figure titles in a table.  My figures are wider than they are taller and that is why I want the overall page to be landscape.  I would like to do this multiple times within a book.

    Arnis Gubins wrote:
    Peter,
My bad - you're right. I didn't check this out on FM before shooting off the answer. With FM8 & 9, it always rotates the pages automatically to the correct orientation (as far as I quickly tested). I was remembering a problem when printing envelopes and labels with FM6 where I had to always manually rotate the pages and the habit has kind of stuck in my head.
I think the envelope template always was annoying because it assumed that the envelopes were only fed from the edge of the paper tray, so it lined up the envelope along the side. Some trays and manual feeders feed from the center, so that template's off by inches. Yes, I also remember something about the orientation being a fooler, which is why I learned to print to PDF or a sheet of used paper first, to remind me how it works.
And yes, you remember correctly - in the Table Designer, the  Numbering option allows one to specify either Row First or Column First behaviour.
Well, this is my bad - I had written it as the Paragraph Designer's Table Cell properties. There's good reason to cross these wired, viz. and to wit, the User Guide:
Customize the vertical alignment of text in a cell
1Click in the cell you want to customize.
2Choose Format > Paragraphs > Designer to display the Paragraph Designer.
3Choose Table Cell from the Properties pop-up menu and then choose Top, Middle, or Bottom from the Cell Vertical Alignment pop-up menu.
    4Click Apply To Selection.
Note: The vertical alignment that you apply to a cell will persist even when you apply a different table format from the Table Designer.
Specify the direction of autonumbering in a table
When you insert a table, the table format determines the direction of autonumbering within cells—either across rows or down columns. This property also sets the direction of autonumbering for table footnotes.
1Click in the table you want to change, and choose Table > Table Designer.
2In the Basic properties of the Table Designer, choose Row First or Column First from the Numbering pop-up menu.
    3Click Apply To Selection.
The subtle transition from the Paragraph Designer's Table Cell properties context to the Table Designer's Basic Numbering property context is pretty slippery, IMO.
Also, the writing around the bug of persistent vertical text alignment in a cell when changing table formats, is quite sly. I've never seen this called out for a bug to be fixed, so it's probably not encountered often, if at all.

i recently ported to macintosh and need to get set up for some poster-workflow needs. i also do a lot of 3D work and have noticed that Acrobat 3D is not available for the mac?
i am also organizing my images in Aperture and have both boot camp installs of windows xp and a parallels install on the laptop.
i have a blog on wordpress and need to update another very old website soon.
can anyone advise as to whether I should be looking at the AI, Photoshop, Indesign package for the mac in conjuntion with Acrobat 3D for windows?
i'm new to adobe and the mac and put in some tangential details in case anyone can offer tangential advice.
    TIA.

  • Need advice for a new graphics card

Hey this is my first time posting here. I've got a Power Mac G4 MDD 1.25GHz with the original ATI Radeon 9000 Pro. I just recently tried installing Final Cut Suite 2 and found out my card isn't good enough. I've tried doing some research into what I need to buy, but have been rather confused. Any recommendations? I need to run the newest Final Cut. Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Retail card options are limited to two ATI Radeon cards. The current 9800 has the most capable graphics processor unit (GPU) but only 128MB VRAM. The 9600 is a little cheaper and has 256MB VRAM to make up for a slower GPU. Still, both cards are more capable than the 9000.
I find the Mac specs on the ATI site confusing and sometimes outdated since being absorbed by AMD. Frankly, one of their resellers, Other World Computing, does a better job of showing current ATI specs than ATI. The two cards are listed on this page:

  • Looking for advice on small office use ...

I'm looking for options to share our photo library in a small office environment. Essentially we have a single person (ie, our photographer) who is responsible for maintaining our program's photo library. What we're looking for is a way for him to very easily "publish" the photos which would allow other staff in our environment to quickly find and use images when necessary. We're a pure mac environment, although our photographer is currently a bridge / CS3 user (ie, not Aperture). I'm an experience Aperture user at home, and I'm trying to see if it could be used in a shared environment.
If not - does anyone have any suggestions ?
    Thanks,
    Paul

Tell us about your "shared environment." I assume the various Macs are connected via a local network. Do you have a dedicated server? (A mac that is used to store files and is always on - that all other macs can access via cable or wireless.)
If so, it seems that Aperture may be the wrong app for this. Since "everyone else" just needs to access pictures that the photographer has adjusted (using AP), what you need is software that accesses a "library" of image files. I'm thinking of something like the old iViewMedia Pro (now MS Expression Media, yes it's available for the Mac). So, basically you need a good DAM (digital asset management) app for everyone to use.
What I envision is this (not sure if this is the workflow you are thinking about) - photog processes RAW or other image formats in AP and exports adjusted images to jpg or tiff. These are then stored in some folder hierarchy. "The DAM Book" discusses a strategy for this - folders in the
    <year>
    <month>
    <day>
hierarchy, but you can use some other organization like
    <year>
    <subject>
Once the photog has processed the images and exported the final products, you import each new batch of images into each of the DAM software on each Mac. This software should be able to read metadata like keywords (you'd have to be sure the AP exported image files have XMP sidecar files or DNG files with embedded metadata that includes keywords - keywords are the important data you really need for everyone to use when searching for images). Unfortunately, DNG is still not well supported in AP, it's better handled in Lightroom. However, others here may want to add some ideas. I believe you can add some metadata like keywords directly inside other image file formats (tiff, jpg??). Don't know if AP handles this.
At any rate, look into Expression media or something similar that others here might suggest.

  • RAM & graphics card advice

Was hoping to get some advice re: RAM & a graphics card upgrade for my macpro.
I have been using Premiere pro CS 5.5 & FCP 7.0.3 on my macpro for a little while with no issues
(along with the other apps in the suites: AE, PS, compressor, DVDSP, etc).
For the CUDA acceleration the Adobe site recommends that I ugrade to one of these cards:
    GeForce GTX 285 for Mac
    Quadro FX 4800 for Mac
    Quadro 4000 for Mac
I also just received a copy of Avid Media Composer 5.5 & have been waiting to install it based on Avid approving stability for OS 10.6.8 + not sure how the matrox card is working for them yet either.
Would anyone recommend one of these above cards specifically for use with all 3 applications?
Was also looking at putting in 24 GB of RAM as well. Assume I can always use more, but how much?
Is there anybody running a similar setup as this on OS 10.6.8?
I know there are a number of editors on here that may use all 3 apps (FCP, PP, & Avid), but I am not sure if they run on the same computer without issues, or what the setup may be.
From what I have read online it looks like there are lots of issues with the 4000, but it is hard to tell if that is reliable info as some of the posters have found out they had bad RAM, or it was some other problem they introduced.
Mostly i see that they recommend the GTX 285 card if I can find one, but I am unsure which way to go. Any suggestions?
    MacPro Specs are:
    Mac OS 10.6.8
    MacPro4,1
    Processor - 2 X 2.26 GHz Quad core Intel Xeon (8 cores)
    memory - 6 GB 1066 MHz DDR3
graphics card - NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 (512MB VRAM)
also have a matrox mini card installed
under system profiler - memory it says:
Type is DDR3 ECC, speed 1066 MHz
    THANKS!

Last I talked to Matrox, the MC5 driver install for the MXO2 mini is different than the install for CS5. I don't know if they changed that with the new Matrox tools but you will want to contact them and see. If not then you will only be able to setup the Matrox for 1 or the other since I doubt you can install both and they work without issue
The Quadro 4000 is best for Adobe versus the other 2. The differences between the cards really tont effect MC5 but they recommend a Quadro because that's what they test with.

  • Auto deploying branch office printers with Direct Access

    Hello there
I am implementing my first Direct Access topology and have a question. We will have branch offices with workstations deployed using Direct Access for administrative purposes. We have staff moving around from branch to branch with the goal to
make logging on to the network and accessing resources for users as automated as possible. One of the questions I have regards auto configuring branch printers for users using Group Policy. The branch offices have workstations, printers and NAT modem/routers
with DHCP - but no servers.
If we have a stand alone network printer, how do we list that printer in Active Directory allowing the user to auto-configure it using group policy? If we install it on a server at Head Office, would the print job travel there first and then back to
the branch? Obviously this is not ideal. Or can it be directed straight to the printer using a script or something?
Alternatively we can install and share it on a branch workstation and list it in the directory, but would this not be same the problem as above? This is not ideal either as it would depend on the workstation being always on and available.
    Any input Direct Access gurus?
    Thanks in advance
    MIS5000

    Hi,
    Thanks for your post.
We could have 2 possible solutions for natively deploy printers using Group Policy without the need for any scripting:
    1) Group Policy Preferences – available in Windows Server 2008 and later
    2) Print Management – available in Windows Server 2003 R2 and later
    http://blog.powershell.no/2009/11/08/deploying-printers-using-group-policy/
Did you try to use the Print Management? You can share printers on a network and centralize print server and network printer management tasks using the Print Management Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in. Print Management helps you to monitor print
queues and receive notifications when print queues stop processing print jobs. It also enables you to migrate print servers and deploy printer connections using Group Policy.

Meanwhile, if you have any Direct Access related issue, I think you may ask in network forums:

  • Copying a path creates a duplicate graphic style

When copying a path by using the the menu commands, if there is any graphic style associated with that path, a duplicate graphic style will be made.  We deal with copying hundreds of lines.  As a result, we are left with hundreds of graphics styles that are duplicates.  This slows the program down by a significant amount.  Is there any fix to this?  We do use the ALT shortcut when we can, which does not create duplicate graphic styles. But, there are some instances where this cannot be used.

I'm going to take a guess here - if you create a brand new document and do not paste anything into it, but create a path, apply a Graphic Style, then copy and paste that path, you do not see this problem right?
If that is correct, then my guess is that you frequently work with files where some of the content was created in a much older version of Illustrator and you should refer to this knowledge base article to see if it can help: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408008.html

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand that you would like to know if Color Laser printers do "Iron-on Transfers"? I am happy to answer this for you! According to this guide, HP Iron-on Transfers for Color Fabric - Printing Instructions for HP Iron-on Transfers. It states: WARNING: Do not use HP Iron-on Transfers for Color Fabric in laser printers, copy machines, or Inkjet printers with heating elements such as the HP Deskjet 1200c or 1600c. The heating elements in these printers can melt the transfer paper, which could damage the printer. Hope this answers your question, and thank you for posting!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”
