Advice with t:dataList - itemStyleClass

Hi there
I have successfully implemented a datalist, and styled it as I want. Now I want to expand the functionality of my dataList. The list of items being returned need to be checked and depending on the value I want to change the itemStyleClass value, any thoughts on how I do this?
<t:dataList id="tagCloud"
                            value="#{myBean.theTags}"
                            var="item"
                            layout="orderedList"
                            itemStyleClass="tagsize#{item.tagSize}">
                    <t:outputText value="#{item.word}" rendered="#{item.word eq 'test'}"></t:outputText>
                    <span>
                        <t:outputText value="#{item.frequency}"></t:outputText>
                    </span>
                    <t:outputText value="#{item.word}" rendered="#{item.word != 'test'}"></t:outputText>
                    <span>
                        <t:outputText value="#{item.frequency}"></t:outputText>
                    </span>
                </t:dataList>The above code will show me my ordered List of values, however I want to surround the words equal to Test with a different itemStyleClass e.g. TestValue so I can style these values separately. I have played around with inserting divs around the t:outputText value but this upsetting all of the current stlying.
Any thoughts?
Here is an example of how I would like the HTML to look:

Why not this :
<t:dataList id="tagCloud"
                            value="#{myBean.theTags}"
                            var="item"
                            layout="orderedList"
                            itemStyleClass="#{item.styleClass}"> //  every item holds his own css style on a property called styleClass
