Afp issue accessing NAS

I have a Thecus NAS and have a few folders setup on the NAS that have read/write privileges for "everyone." I connect to these folders via afp://servername/share and have had no problems until today. Now, the folders in one of the shares shows a red circle w/ a dahs in it which means I don't have privileges to view the files on any folder . I do a Get Info on that folder and it shows that "everyone" has read/write access to this folder. Weird. I then disconnect the share and reconnect to it via smb and that works fine (the share's folder also have read/write access for "smbusers"). Here's the other weird thing - the other shares I have on this NAS that are also setup similarly can be accessed/viewed fine. So not sure what's going on with just this share and why all of a sudden today? I haven't changed any permissions or settings on the NAS or share today. Thanks!

    So after 60 mins on the phone with the ppl at WD, it was determined that i most likely have any issue with Time Machine accessing the wd_backup partition of my mybookworld NAS drive. Simply put - I can access the drive via SMB ('cept for the backup partition - which is what i want anyway) but TM (nor the finder) wont access the backup partition at all.

    Sorry I'm not adding anything positive but I too am having problems with my MBW NAS drive. Every time I try to connect with the "Public" drive, I get the "The operation cannot be completed because the original file for "Public" cannot be found." I connect through SMB as well but it is annoying. I never been able to connect to MBW-Backup. Again, sorry to piggyback but just wanted to let you know you are not alone in your search.

    The Lenovo software I've installed looks crippled. It doesn't even ask me for credentials, just displays a message
    It stands for "There's a problem accessing server "ix2.local." There are no such share on this server. Check share's name and try again. I wrote above I cannot check share's name, because LAM doesn't allow me to enter any credentials. I cannot access any configurations of this program, because he "Preverences" tab in main menu is inactive. At the same time NAS works wee with a Win7 PC plugget to the same LAN.

    LenovoEMC Storage Manager uses the current Windows/Apple OSX user account to connect with the NAS.  If there is a space in the username or does not meet the username requirements for the NAS,  it can cause this issue due to a permission conflict.
    I recommend trying to unistall LSM for now, then try manually mounting the shares via AFP or SMB/CIFS in finder using a username created on the NAS web interface.  
    If you are still unable to access the shares, you should double check that the computer is on the same local network ip range and subnet as the NAS you are having issues accessing.
    You could also try allowing "everyone" permission in the web interface, this would allow LSM to access the shares on the NAS even if the OSX username does not meet the NAS username requirements.

  • Troubleshooting Error 0x70080035 when accessing NAS

    I posted this issue on the Microsoft Community forum and they recommended that I post my query in the TechNet forum.
    In summary, here is my tale of woe:
    As of last weekend, I can no longer access my Buffalo Linkstation NAS from my laptop with Windows 8.1 over wifi. I upgraded to Win 8.1 several months ago and everything has been working just fine until a few weeks ago (March 23). The problem is that the
    NAS appears by name in the network, but when I click on it it cannot be found and I get error 0x80070035, path not found. After spending several days looking for a solution, I restored my laptop to a restore point about two weeks earlier and everything started
    working again. It's been working fine until this weekend (April 5), now the same problem is back.
    I can browse it via its IP address, I can access the DHCP table in my router (Linksys WRT54G) and I can see the Linkstation listed there. I turned off my firewall (Symantec Endpoint) and I still get the same results. The Linkstation does show up as a media
    device and I can access all of my media.
    I can ping the NAS using its IP address, but if I ping it using its hostname, it cannot find it. I get the same results when I plug my laptop into the router. I can ping the NAS hostname from my Windows 7 PC without any problems. I can also browse my PC
    from the laptop without any problems. DHCP for the NAS just doesn't work on the laptop. Since I can ping the NAS via its IP address but not its name, my laptop has a DNS problem. Any troubleshooting help would be greatly appreciated.
    It was suggested that I try the following suggestions but nothing here worked:

  • AFP issues with 10.4.6

    Hi,
    I have network of 3 Macs running 10.4.6. Two are wired and the other is my laptop and it is wireless. When I try to connect with AFP to any maching (wired to wired, wired to wireless, or wireless to wired) I get the following error:
    "Connection Failure
    The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again."
    I get the same message when I try to connect by IP address or name.
    I have IPv6 and Appletalk turned off on all machines. All machines also have static IPs and DNS info entered manually. If I scan each machine with NMAP port 548 is open and I can telnet to it. I also can see the server when I browse the network for AFP servers.
    Any ideas?

    Hmm thinking twice about it, sounds like MacOS-BSD idiosyncrasy...
    Every time we update MacOS X the I/O and network catalog is being reset, returning most of the settings to default values (at least when dealing with default (not customized) installations)...
    Your issue regarding TCP sendspace sounds like a good feedback to Apple.
    I'll fire an email to the developers...
    btw: mark your question as answered, it's the most interesting AFP issue I've read so far

  • HT204088 anyone have any issues accessing security in sys pref? Mountain Lion

    Does Anyone else have an issues accessing the Security/Password in System Preferences of the Mountain Lion OS. I have just upgraded this morning and got a message about not being able to access a site. It appears Moutain Lion has changed the security of accessing sites and need to be adjusted ot suit your needs. The problem is I can't access it. The Security icon is the only one of the icons in the system preference that hangs and I am forced to quit.
    Any one else have this issue?

    I'm not sure this will help. There is supposed to be a "Security and Privacy" preference pane in System Preferences. But on my MacBook Pro, there is no such pane visible. However, if I do a search in System Preferences for "Security and Privacy", the preferences open. So it's "there" but not visible. I don't know why.
    However, if you try this and manage to get into Security and Privacy via searching in System Preferences, you might be able to do what you want.

    I have recently reinstalled my Windows OS however am having issues accessing my library. I have reinstalled the new iTunes software and cannot see my previous songs that were stored in my library only some of them appear. Can someone please explain my issue and how to workaround this? thanks.

    The only songs we can view in our Itunes library all seem to be songs purchase from itunes. (approx 60-70)
    When we click on 'our ipod' button all the songs we have ever added to the ipod, (in excess of 600!) whether from a CD, or itunes are greyed out... so we are little stuck as to how we get them to appear in our itunes library.
    Could you let me know how you start the scan and get it to loaded back into the librabry at all please?

    I still have the data utilization option, AND the rest of the app seems to be working as well. I can see the data utilization stats for mu own number, but I get an error for the other smartphone and the tablet I have on the account.  So, if my daughter has the app on her iPhone, would she see her own data utilization info only?  That makes sense, but it would be more useful to me if I could see hers on my app.    Maybe that's in the works....

  • About the error: "The account is not authorized to login from this station" when you access NAS devices from Windows 10 Technical Preview (build 9926)

    Scenario:
    With the release of Windows 10 Technical Preview (build 9926), some users may encounter an error message of “The account is not authorized to login from this station” when trying to access remote files saved in NAS storage. In
    addition, the following error log may also be found via Event Viewer:
    Rejected an insecure guest logon.
    This event indicates that the server attempted to log the user on as an unauthenticated guest but was denied by the client. Guest logons do not support standard security features such as signing and encryption. As a result,
    guest logons are vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attacks that can expose sensitive data on the network. Windows disables insecure guest logons by default. Microsoft does not recommend enabling insecure guest logons.
    Background:
    The error message is due to a change we made in Windows 10 Technical Preview (build 9926) which is related to security and remote file access that may affect you.
    Previously, remote file access includes a way of connecting to a file server without a username and password, which was termed as “guest access”.
    With guest access authentication, the user does not need to send a user name or password.
    The security change is intended to address a weakness when using guest access.  While the server may be fine not distinguishing among clients for files (and, you can imagine in the home scenario that it doesn’t
    matter to you which of your family members is looking at the shared folder of pictures from your last vacation), this can actually put you at risk elsewhere.  Without an account and password, the client doesn’t end up with a secure connection to the server. 
    A malicious server can put itself in the middle (also known as the Man-In-The-Middle attack), and trick the client into sending files or accepting malicious data.  This is not necessarily a big concern in your home, but can be an issue when you take your
    laptop to your local coffee shop and someone there is lurking, ready to compromise your automatic connections to a server that you can’t verify.  Or when your child goes back to the dorm at the university. The change we made removes the ability to connect
    to NAS devices with guest access, but the error message which is shown in build 9926 does not clearly explain what happened. We are working on a better experience for the final product which will help people who are in this situation. 
    As a Windows Insider you’re seeing our work in progress; we’re sorry for any inconvenience it may have caused.
    Suggestion:
    You may see some workarounds (eg. making a registry change restores your ability to connect with guest access).
    We do NOT recommend making that change as it leaves you vulnerable to the kinds of attacks this change was meant to protect you from.
    The recommended solution is to add an explicit account and password on your NAS device, and use that for the connections.  It is a one-time inconvenience,

  • After upgrading to Lion OS 10.7.5 takes 10 seconds or more to access NAS folders and files

    I've upgraded my customers IMacs to Lion OS and whenever they try to access folders on the Buffalo NAS terastation it takes about 10 seconds for the folders to populate with the files. It will open right away but will look blank. If I click get info during this time it says "fetching". I'm assuming it has something to do with the SMB change with lion but don't know how to fix it. I called Buffalo and they said it must be an apple issue. I called apple and they were of no help. THe tech support person asked me to reset my computer and leave it powered of for 30 seconds......ugh. Then I asked to speak to someone higher and we got cut off.
    The Buffalo NAS terastation has SCSI drives but they are mounted to an HP Server. So the SMB connection is to the HP Server running server 2003. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Any luck getting the info on SMBX parameters like OPLOCKS ? This is apparently causing an issue with Autodesk Revit. I am resorting to installing SMBUP.

  • Can PS3 access NAS connected to an airport extreme n via wi-fi?

    We have currently an airport extreme n with two HDD attached. 1 is back for desktop macs and the other is general storage and media storage. The extreme is the connection point for all devices in the household. This is due to none of the devices being in one spot or near the extreme which is located at optimum location to cover the home. Cabling is not an option at this point. Specifically our PS3 which is our TV tuner, blueRay/DVD player and media centre. Only issue is I can't directly access the media HDD attached to the extreme using the wi-fi. Otherwise this setup works reliably 24 hours a day. The HDD is the correct format and so is the content. I have read that it is due to apple not supporting UPNP (sorry if I got that wrong). Due to other issues I've decided to upgrade the setup to add a NAS, probably a 4 bay. Reasons are for raid backup of media files and further expansion and storage flexibility without disturbing the media. Any way I can find lots of choices of products that say they fit my criteria. The only thing I can't find out or confirm is if the PS3 will be able to access the NAS media content if it's connected to the extreme and accessed by the PS3 via the wi-fi connection.

    I assume that you plan on connecting an Ethernet-ready NAS device to the Extreme. If so, then it should be accessible from the PS3 via either a wired or wireless connection to the base station.
    UPnP would only be necessary for access through the base station's NAT firewall to/from the Internet.

  • Routing Issue Accessing Inside Interface of ASA

    Ok so I'm making this more complex than it needs to be and can't see the forest for the trees. I'm setting up an ASA 5510 with multiple contexts. I'm working with my main internal context for my internal traffic. I have created interfaces on this context as follows:

    NOTE: Also has ssh configuration but can't document that here.
    My workstation has an IP 10.10.30.20 255.255.0.0 with a default gateway that points to my core switch (10.10.50.151).
    When I try to access the inside interface of the ASA via ssh from my workstation I can't connect. I tried to ping the inside interface IP address of the ASA from my workstation and it doesn't reply. I can however ping anything on my internal network from the ASA through the inside interface. What am I missing on this?

    I figured out this issue but now have a new issue. The problem I had accessing the internal network from the ASA was due to the core switch I was being routed through. After looking at the core I saw that the default route was redirecting all traffic to the IP address of the inside interface on the production ASA. I have since pulled a spare switch and created an isolated network with a laptop and the inside interface on the new ASA. This worked great.
    Now to my new problem. I am trying to access our ISPs external address from the ASA. The ISP has provided us with two vlans (100 and 101) on one connection and has given us two public IPs (one is the IP for the router on their end and the second is the IP I am supposed to use on my outside interface for vlan 100). I have created sub-interfaces on my outside interface and defined 0/0.1 as vlan 100 and 0/0.2 as vlan 101. VLAN 101 will go to our rack at our disaster recovery site so it will just be an extension of our existing network.
    My network is as follows:
                                   ISP (IP 2.2.2.1)

                                   3560-CG switch (both ports -- to ISP and ASA outside interface are configured as trunk ports)

                                   ASA (outside 2.2.2.2 vlan 100)
    When I try to ping the 2.2.2.1 address from the ASA it doesn't work. If both my ASA outside port and the port to the ISP are both trunk ports shouldn't it route both VLANs (100 and 101) without any issue or am I missing something in my thinking?

  • Accessing NAS Drive through vpn windows 8.1

    Hi I hope someone can help 
    I have been having some trouble connecting to my netgear ready nes from my remote office 
    we have a LAN to LAN vpn set up using 2 draytek routers witch works well i can print, access remote desktop and so on. I cant access the shared drive on the nas (or on a pc) with out dropping the firewall, how ever once i have dropped the fire wall i can
    mapped the drive and put the firewall back up, it works fine untill i log out from my pc, restart it or let the connection sit idle for to long, then i have to drop the firewall again reconnect the drives and reinstate the firewall then it works again untill
    i log out, restart or it sits idle for a time, I have done some research and all tho there isnt a lot  of info on the subtest, it has led me to believe that i need to allow an exception in the firewall, how ever i have allowed all of them and still no
    change can any one help???

    Port 3389 has absolutely nothing to do with accessing remote shares, that's
    for remote desktop.
    The ports needed to be allowed for shares are 135-139 both TCP and UDP, and
    445 TCP and UDP.

  • Unable to restrict afp folder access using File Sharing in System Prefs

    If I share files using AFP, and authenticate using a standard account from another machine on the LAN, I can browse and access ALL files and folders on the machine, not just those specified under "Shared Folders" in System Preferences->Sharing->File Sharing. Machine is running OS 10.6.5.

    ...You shouldn't be able to authenticate as a user/account that is not on the local machine.
    Also for each item listed in Sharing Preferences, you have to specify POSIX permissions for specific users, check to make sure 'everyone' isn't set to read and write.
