After a system restore, my search bar can't be used

My computer had a system restore after a storm shut my computer off after being frozen. No other issues are going on other than when I try to use the search bar, nothing happens. If I use the drop down box in the search bar, the only options I get are Add "Firefox Help", and Manage search engines. If I click on manage search engines, usually I get a list of options, google, yahoo, etc, but it is completely empty and restore defaults is grayed out.
Per other suggestions on this forum, I have upgraded to the latest firefox version, I have also downloaded the serachreset addon which didn't help. Also, there was another post on deleting the formhistory.sqlite file under my profiles, however, when I went to try this, there was no such file for me. (from this website's instructions http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_search_or_add_new_engines)
Please help as I don't want to have to delete the entire program just to find that upon reinstall, I don't have a fix.

You are sure that they are in browser\searchplugins and not in \searchplugins in the Firefox program folder?
There has been a change and in current Firefox versions some files and folders have been moved to the browser folder and searchplugins is one of them.

  • How can I restore the search bar drop down list and current search engine icon as it was in FF version 33?

Is there a way to restore the search bar from version 33?
I like seeing which search engine I have selected and the ability to change it with a drop down list BEFORE I highlight text, right-click, and select ' Search Google for "xxxx" '
Any way to roll back this latest "improvement"?

If you miss being able to switch search engines without going
    crazy with menus, try this out;
    '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/context-search/ Context Search]''' {web link}
Expands the context menu's 'Search for' item into a list of
installed search engines, allowing you to choose the engine
you want to use for each search.

i lost my iphoto application how i can restore it? i am not having system restore disk. how i can get my photos back?

If the iPhoto application is no longer on your hard drive (do a search to be sure it didn't just get moved to an unexpected place), there's no way to get it back without either backups or a copy of iPhoto.  Your original disks that shipped with the machine would have iPhoto.  If you have lost those disks and don't have backups, you'll simply have to buy a copy of iLife.  Or call Apple with your machine's serial number in-hand and request replacement disks, which they will send you for a small fee.

If the problems arose after a restore from a Windows restore point you may need to resort to reinstalling Firefox, as sometimes Windows restores have been known to break Firefox.
Security software including Firewalls is another problem that can slow Firefox or cause it not to work. You need to ensure the security software recognises the current version of Firefox (Again I wonder if a Windows restore may have affected this also.)

  • Uploading previous iWeb work after a system restore?

How do I upload previous iWeb work after a system restore?
I backed up my data on a Hard-drive then I did a factory reset or restore of my hard-drive....
Now I am attempting to open my previous iWeb work online and it is not working please help.....

Your domain.sites2 file is the file that iWeb stores all its data and it is this file that you need if you want to continue updating your website in iWeb.
It is found under your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and then the domain.sites file.
Your user library is the one with the house and this is where your personal user information is stored as opposed to your System Library which is general and where iWeb is not.
If you don't have your domain.sites file then you will have to re-build your site from scratch as iWeb does not have the ability to read or open html files - so a previously published site - it is a one way street creating html files upon publishing.

  • How can I install the programms again after a system restore?

After my system went down, right after installation of the programms with the Adobe Applicaton Manager, I had to restore the system. Of course by then all the installed applications weren't working.
I will have to reinstall them. But unfortunately I can't download and install the applications again because AAM thinks they are allready installed. Thus far nothing works. Who can help me?

Run the Cleaner tool to remove all the Adobe Software and then check in the AAM.

  • Can't reinstall Tiger after doing System Restore

My G5 went into meltdown mode today--everything froze while my mom was using Firefox, and the crash forced me to run the System Restore DVD. Now I'm back to 10.2.7, which means not much will work...but for some reason, I can't reinstall Tiger! Early on in the re-upgrading attempt, I get "There were errors installing the software", and I'm forced to quit. Is something wrong with my copy of the Install DVD? Could it be damaged? I've been using 10.4.5 since last week, along with Security Update 2006-002 v1.1, and things were just fine until today.

Though this may sound amateurish, I have everything backed up to a series of DVD-RWs using Retrospect 6.1 . My family has never used the computer so much or stored so much on it that we have ever needed to backup to an external hard drive, though that would have been more prudent.
As for the main system, other than the model listing below, it's set up like this:
Main HD: Single HFS+ partition, stock configuration, 160GB, Journaling enabled
    RAM: 512MB stock
Added internal peripheral: Pioneer DVR-110D SuperDrive (replaces stock DVR-106)
External peripherals: Kensington USB keyboard and mouse, HP DeskJet 842C printer, Motorola SURFboard SB5100 cable modem, Cambridge Soundworks PC Works speaker/subwoofer set,
was using Epson Perfection 1260 PHOTO scanner until recently, APC Back-UPS RS 800 battery backup, Belkin powered USB hub (attached to keyboard), SmartDisk diskette drive, USB cable for Palm PDA
Major non-Apple system utilities: Symantec Norton Antivirus 10, Allume StuffIt Deluxe 10, Tech Tool Pro 4, DiskWarrior 3.0.3 (not installed, on bootable CD only), EMC Insignia Retrospect 6.1.204
    Hope that's not too extraneous.
I'm aware I'll have to reinstall the utilities if I manage to get back into Tiger. I'm waiting for a Retrospect 6.1 Disaster Recovery CD to arrive before I proceed with the reformat, since the only copy I have now is from a download.

  • Why can't I add music to my ipod after a system restore?

A little more info on what went down, went to charge my ipod said couldnt find it and had to do a system restore. Did that, but when the back up part started, gave me some weird error msg. Help would be nice. Thank you!

Was there just a bad network conneciton that you had? Sometimes that is the issue. If you do gain access to iTunes via your iPod again, you can go to the iTunes Store App > more > purchased > music > and then 'Not on this iPod'

  • Error code 0xe0ef0003, No "BOOTMGR" after a system restore, no disc/self system.

So ... my HP Pavilion dv7 NB, that I've owned just a mere two days shy of three years, decided to get extremely lazy late last night. I have malware programs in place, strong security, etc. but I suppose that something might have slipped in ... but unlikely because of the issue I'm having. Which is the same issue that, well, everyone else is having! I do use my PC a lot so no big deal. Since I did everything that is suggested to do prior to an extreme act like a system restore I figured that I had no choice but to do a restore and that all will be well. Saved what images, music and a couple of other things that are important to me onto a disc and started to wipe things clean. I've done this before on my desktop ... which I've had since 2004 (Sony VAIO VGCRB42G) and is still going strong even though it's considered a "relic" at this point. I do take very good care of my things ... So after saving what I wanted I began what I thought was going to be a fairly short process. That started last night. 24 hours and hundreds of posts later I am no closer to figuring out what is going on. Maybe the OS? Microsoft and W7 really isn't ALL that ... it's good but not great by any means. Or could it be the components? Built by HP ... or FOR HP over seas, maybe? Regardless, my experience with HP products lately has been less than stellar. And after reading reams of the same issues that others and I share, with no cure for the elusive 0xe0ef0003/No BOOTMGR bug, it seems that my actions of a mere 6 months ago were spot on .... stop buying HP products.
There was a time when HP was king. They had great products, built right in my own backyard. Heck, my mom used to work for Fairchild. Who probably made some of the components that HP used in their products ... I think ... right here in the good ol' U.S. of A. I used to deliver skids and skids of freight to HP way back when. Now their campuses look like ghost towns. Yet there was a recent major ad campaign and their brand is still taking up shelf space at Fry's on Durham Rd. ... uhh, 'scuse me, Automall  ...
I've read a number of "Solved!" messages to which none helped me. But I do appreciate this community for trying ... sorta. Too many of these 'Solved!" messages included the suggestion of purchasing a restore disc, HD or something else. A recovery/restore disc ... something that was always included for free when one bought a new PC. Something that I got with my VAIO. Something that I've only needed to use once with my old a$$ VAIO! I am amazed that my ancient relic of a desktop outlasted my NB by 6+years ... and still going.
So after searching high and low and employing every other suggestion that I haven't tried already, all one of them, that doesn't require me spending more money I've resigned myself to accepting that if I want to be "mobile" with my PCing ... I'll have to buy another. Brand. Don't get me wrong, I love to spend money and I would gladly spend the extra dough if my NB was a little older but since it's so young and already needs a "heart transplant" I'd say the outlook for the rest of it's existence is pretty short and dismal anyway. So I'll just be "putting her down" ...
I'd like to thank you for allowing me the space to rant a little. Please be kind in your responses. I'm not really looking for help to fix my NB. I consider her dead. There are plenty of posts with folks who have the exact same issue. A ton. Mega tons! Chock full of replies and answers on this issue already. Do a search for yourself if you don't believe me! No, I just thought that maybe a muckety muck might be listening. I doubt it but ya never know!
As I am typing this up on my desktop I can't help but notice that I still have two pieces of HP product that I'm still employing: The wireless keyboard and mouse that I'm using at this moment. I sure do hope they don't burn up under my hands before I hit "Post"!

    you can't reactivate ps cs.
however, adobe allows you to use ps cs2, http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.htm l

  • How do I get application manager to install products after a system restore removed them?

I had some issues starting the computer and had to use system restore to get it runnng.
But that meant that all the applications I installed using creative cloud were gone.
When I started the Application Manger, It read that all the applications that I had installed were still installed.
I don't know how to reset anything to reinstall what I lost.   As you can see I says the installed programs are up to date. But they are not on the hard drive.
If anyone can help,   thank you very much.  Or I wait till they open tomorrow.      Barry

    Hi Mylenium
i did a Forum search upon AAM issues and came here.
My system and all installed CS6 Applications are running smoothly, just AAM shows some odd behaviour
Most needed applications are installed, but under the "All" Tab, AAM shows "install" on the right, see my screenshot below.
Contrary to that what is seen on the screenshot up there from user "Bar".
under "Updates" it shows all up to date (see screenshot below)
This way, I'm cannot be sure if AAM works correctly or not.
So i have followed your suggested advice and cleaned everythig up, downloaded and installed everything again, ugh!, but problem still persitis.
Usually it should show up which Applications are alredy installed, respectively are up to date and which application are still not installed.
Is there a known issue with AAM?
    Thank you.

  • 1.Backup to External drive 2. CoverArt lost after Windows system restore

I recently spent many hours searching for and applying cover art for my music which was mostly ripped before cover art was readily available.
Because of this investment, I want to be sure my library is fully backed up. I want to use space on an external drive, rather than DVD's.
I noticed as I added art, iTunes started acting sluggish. I thought it might be because of the new version or a recent Windows Vista update. So I decided to run system restore. I was appalled to discover that restore wiped out the art I had added. So I reversed the restore and the cover art returned. It became clear to me that the art must be stored in some other way than in the actual music file. I've searched the forum and found others who had problems with system restore, but no explanation of exactly what I should do if I want to proceed with a system restore. I use system restore several times a year and I have never lost anything in iTunes before I started adding cover art. I also never had a problem with sluggishness til I added a bunch of cover art.
My library is large at 3000 items.
Is there a way to compact or optimize the database to improve responsiveness?
Is there a way to backup to an external drive? Is it just a file copy and export library file?
If I export the library as an xml file before I do a system restore, can I then replace it after the restore and protect my cover art.

To be completely sure what you're doing please take a look at your iTunes Folder and see what Vista stores inside it. To find it, go to Start>Computer>Hard Disk C>Users>Your Name>Music>iTunes>.......
Please note there is an artwork folder PLUS a music folder!
My guess is that your system restore point pre-dated the time you added artwork to your iTunes files. (Celebrate that system restore still works for you--I have not been able to successfully restore for over a year now--Norton Internet Security causes system restore failures for many Windows users! I've tried to do this using Windows XP and Vista--and I can never successfully restore anymore.)
To fully backup your library, just copy the entire iTunes folder to another source--second hard drive, USB drive, or burn it to a CD or DVD, etc.
If you're experiencing "sluggishness" it may be due to the amount of RAM on your system. iTunes needs a great deal of RAM to run smoothly. You can choose to: increase the RAM on your system, OR, turn off cover flow/album view and see if things run more smoothly.

  • Lost purchased iTunes after computer system restore

How can I retreive purchsed iTunes that I lost after I had my computer system restored? I re-loaded the iPod + iTunes disc and non of my songs seem available to me.

That is going to depend on what you mean by "restore". If you formatted your hard drive and did not have a backup then the music files are gone and you will have to re purchase them all. Same thing if you
If you still have your music files all you need to do is add them to iTunes. Go to File > Add Folder to Lib... and point to where the files are.
If you believe you still have the music files but do not know where they are try doing a search for *.m4p, or *.mpb, or *.mp3. If the files are still on your hard drive then that should find them.

  • System Restore and Search/Start Menu

    Hi,
On 10061, after an update from 10049, which went fine.   I did something to Network settings so did a System Restore to the point immediately after the update to 61.   This ran successfully, despite showing no info on the progress, just
    the cursor arrow.
However, it has completely killed the Search option and the Start Menu.   I understand that the Start Menu has a bug and only worked for a few items, but Run as Admin did work and so did the recommended workaround by using the Search option. Now
nothing works.   It was the access point to Feedback and the Insider tiles too, which have also gone.
Is there way the reinstate Search and maybe the Start too without a reinstall?
    Thanks

That's an interesting point and I certainly did.   W10 is installed on an SSD on a partition of 54Gb , and had 25Gb free initially.
After restore I am now down to 12Gb and I had moved 8gb of Image Recovery Drivers out already and I have now reset the restore point reducing by a further 3GB.  So the overall impact of restore is  about 25Gb, which is more than the initial clean
    install!
I can't find it specifically but using  TreeSize, I can see where is being used now.   The System32 folder is also all Drivers @ 8.5GB of the 11.7GB.
    urt
I may have to do a clean install again, but it's a pain to reinstall 40 or so app/programs.
    Hope this helps.

  • After a Firefox update my search bar is useless. There is Nothing there to manage so I don't know how to fix it.

I have the search bar but nothing is there. There are no search engines to manage. I really miss that search bar and am afraid of another update. Since I lost it after an update I get anxious when Firefox updates now.

You can check if you have the XML files of the default search engines including Google in the browser\searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
If not then you need to reinstall Firefox.

You can find the full version of the current Firefox 33.0 release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data if you would uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

I did a system restore, trying to get rid of the new update (which I HATE), and now when I try to open iTunes, I get an error message telling me that "This version of iTunes has not been correctly localized for this language.  Please run the English version."  You can't change the language option unless you can open iTunes - and IT WON'T OPEN!!!  What a piece of crap!  If there existed an iTunes substitute, I would purchase it in a hot minute!

Strip it out and start again.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you really want to roll back to 11.4 uninstall all iTunes/Apple components as described in the second box, restore the pre-upgrade version of the library as described in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash, then download and install from one of these direct links:
    iTunes 11.4.0.18 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-09-09)
    iTunes 11.4.0.18 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-09-09)
