After Effects CC Lost CUDA Support

We're having an issue using CUDA GPU rendering on both Premiere and AE.  The editor has mentioned that output has recently begun to stutter and skip, and after a bit of digging he noticed that neither program was utilizing CUDA as expected.
We're on a Mac Pro 5,1, 12GB RAM, 3.06 GHz 6-Core Xeon CPU, on Mac OS X 10.8.5.  The graphics card we're running is an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 680.  We have reinstalled both the CUDA (v. 6.0.37) and NVIDIA (313.01.04f01) drivers without any change in behavior.
What we're seeing in After Effects is this:
In Preferences>GPU Information, we are unable to select 'GPU' from the Ray-tracing dropdown.  The message "GPU not available - incompatible device or CUDA driver' appears.  Under the CUDA section, it is entirely greyed out and Driver Version is listed as 1.0, despite us having version 6.0.37 installed.
After some digging around I found a tutorial for setting up CUDA support by adding entries to the cuda_supported_cards.txt file.  Our card is already on the list, but I noticed something interesting when I used the GPUSniffer (as suggested) to get the card information: there is no entry for CUDA, despite the GTX 680 (supposedly) having CUDA support.  I do, however, see it as an OpenCL device.  GPUSniffer output is:

I found a fix to this!
I too noticed when I checked out the Preferences in AE that it said there was no CUDA driver installed. When I looked at my CUDA driver via System Preferences on my Mac it stated that there was no update available for my CUDA driver at v 6.0.54
So I popped over to CUDA Downloads and there was a 6.5 version that also supported OSX 10.10 Yosemite.
I installed it and now After Effects 2014.1.1 uses my Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 GPU in Ray Trace mode!

  • Supporting Problem After Effects CC do not support Quadro K2100M

I am a user of After Effects CC, i just bought a laptop with Quadro K2100, but surprisingly find out that AE can't figure the video card out. it can't find any cuda and even it can't use the card doing ray-tracing
how can i deal with it ?

That card was added to the list of those that can be used for GPU acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer in After Effects CC (12.1):
    http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2013/09/gpu-changes-for-cuda-and-opengl-in-after-effec ts-cc-12-1.html
If you're using that version or later, and it's not working for you, then you need to give a lot more information, including exact version number of After Effects, operating system, CUDA driver, GPU driver...

  • After Effects CS6 no longer supported?

I just finished a chat with a customer service representative.
I own a perpetual license of Adobe Production Premium CS6 that I've been using for a while. Then I made the HUGE mistake to move to CC and try it out. My subscription has ended and I decided to move back to CS6 (took me forever to convert all my files to CS6 compatible though...). All my apps are working really good... Except of After Effects.
Every time I open the program it opens a window message that reads:
    RENEW YOUR SUBSCRIPTION
Go to the Subscription Manager to renew your subscription for Creative Cloud and continue using your product uninterrupted...
The customer service representative told me that I do have to renew my subscription or buy a new license... is that for real?
So in the end... even if I own a perpetual licence for a lot of the programs I use on my everyday life (Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects) I still need to pay rent to be able to use After Effects? Can somebody please give me an answer? I'll greatly appreciate this.

Unless your license was acquired as part of some special educational or other similar arrangement, if you paid full price directly for the license you should still retain the license and the ability to make full use of it.  You might try contacting Adobe support again to get clarification.

  • Adobe After Effects CS4 doesn't support PowerPC architecture CPU

As installation of CS4 Master Collection, I notice that there are some applications missing. After Effects as well as a bunch of other applications have the warning "This product does not support PowerPC architecture CPU". This is not good since its really the only piece of software I need.
Here are the specs on my computer:
    processor 4 x 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5
    Memory 16 GB DDR2 SDRAM
    Mac OS X version 10.5.4
I spent quite a bit of money on this computer and putting memory into it. Is there nothing I can do? Some sort of inexpensive component I can change or add in order for After Effects to work? Thanks.

Just kind of crummy that since it comes in a bundle, as an option, that the bundle itself doesn't carry some kind of warning or wording about System Requirements.
Well the CS3 Production Premium box does have a warning, so I would presume that the CS4 box does as well. CS3's box says "System Requirements: Multicore Intel processor (Adobe Photoshop Extended, Illustrator, Flash Professional, and After Effects Professional are universal binary and also work on a PowerPC G4 or G5 processor)." So, right there you can tell that Premiere, Soundbooth and Encore don't run on PowerPC in CS3.
I can imagine this happening to other G5 and earlier users.
Why is that? G5 PowerPC code runs on any G5 - so unless you're going to limit it based on CPU clock speed, the earliest G5s wouldn't be giving up anything to the newer ones except for overall speed, obviously.
Doubt it will be in the next upgrade.
I'd agree. At that point, even the newest G5s will be about 5 years old, and it's clear that Adobe is moving towards Intel only support rather quickly.
I wonder if Adobe is allowing customers to pick and choose what versions are in a bundle for the same discount. Swapping new for old, maybe.
Won't happen. Adobe's upgrade policies aren't very generous. Not only are the costs rather steep, but if you're upgrading from the standalone versions to the suite, your upgrade price is based on you owning one of the apps that's part of the suite in the new version. You get no extra credit even if you have all of the suite's apps as standalone versions (e.g. if you have AE, Illustrator, PS, and Flash, it's the same upgrade price as it is if you only owned PS).

  • Premiere to After Effects CS5 - lost transitions and other stuff....

    Hi guys,
We are learning this stuff by using the 'hammer to the head' method...
Premiere CS5 to After Effects CS5 'replace with after effects composition' method loses the trasitions that were placed in Premiere.  They don't show in the After Effects composition.  Fine.
So, doing the all the effects and Magic Bullet effects in the footage and then doing a multi-machine render to a PNG sequence is fine.  Then, instead of using Media Encoder to assemble the PNG footage back to an AVI to re-import to Premiere, it's FAR faster to have after effects re-assemble the PNG to an AVI.  Here's where the 'weirdness' comes in.  We import the newly assembled AVI-PNG sequence to Premiere and CAN"T ADD transitions to the AVI file.  We will put in the cuts where we want it and it doesn't work!  HUH?  Here's where things go really sideways...If we assemble the same PNG sequence using the ultra-slow Media encoder, we can then do transitions in Premiere.  WHAT!  I don't get it.  What is After effects doing differently than Media encoder to put it all back together?
Sorry for the 'frustration', but man, what is goin on?
    Thanks again for everyone's time.
    Jason

See my reply in your other thread. Re-reading this post I do get the impression, though, that you are messing up the frame rates somehow and thus run into problems...

  • Dissolves made in Premiere CS4 lost in "bridge" to After Effects

I have a number of video dissolves in my Premiere CS4 video.  I click on (forget the exact command since I am not in front of my After Effects computer) "replace with After Effects composition"
In after effects I see the dissolves are gone.
What is the best work flow to ensure the dissolves are retained.
    Note:  This is HDV footage.
Here is one thing I tried to do unsuccessfully:
When the replace with After Effects composition lost the dissolves, I tried just exporting the video.  I tried doing a quicktime export, but Premiere did not allow me to do a high quality HDV export.  The video was pixilated, etc.  (In After Effects I could choose Quicktime / Animation /Millions of colors" but I don't see that exact option (millions of colors or millions of colors PLUS) in the Premiere export dialogue.
I see two AVI export options.  Windows AVI and Uncompressed AVI -- would that be a better choice than quicktime?
    I have a windows pc.
    Thanks for any suggestions!
    Rowby

    Rowby:
It's a bit confusing, but it's there. If in the Adobe Media Encoder dialog you get in Premiere Pro, you pick Quicktime as the Format, Animation as the codec and then set codec settings to "32 bit", it will render RGB+Alpha. Even if it doesn't state that clearly.
If you have Premiere Pro and After Effects as part of Production Premium, you can just drag the Premiere Pro sequence from PPro's project panel to AE's project panel, and this will show as a clip/layer in AE which is dynamically linked to the Premiere Pro sequence - any changes you perform in PPro are updated automatically in AE. No need to export a video file at all. But again, this doesn't work if you got PPro and AE as individual products.

  • After Effect errors with GeForce GTX 860M !!

    Hello everybody,
I have tried the trial version of After Effect on my brand new laptop MSI GE70-2PE048FR with Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M CUDA v6 - Mobile QuadCore Intel Core i7-4700HQ, 3300 MHz (33 x 100) and Im getting errors while trying to render a test composition using the GPU... First the GPU was not recognized so I modified a file in After Effect diretory and then it get recognized. Even before that, I tried to force the use of the GPU (with checking the special checkbox to force it in the GPU INFO PANEL of After Effect CC) and it was getting the sames errors anyways !
I have been using and testing MSI factory NVidia drivers v332.35 that are not even available on NVidia web site and I have been teting with NVidia BETA drivers v337.50. Got same results.
    My configuration :
    Thanks for any advice.
I would like to know if after effect is planning to support this GPU ? When ? Or anyone have any clue resoving these errors ?

  • Problems with After Effects/Premiere CS3 in Vista

I have read through a bundle of solutions to this problem and haven't found anything that has worked yet. I ran After Effects and Premiere Pro on Vista up until two days ago when it refused to open. When I try to open Premiere, it gives the message "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attemp to save your current project." When I tryo to open After Effects, the firts try does nothing. The second attempt will open After Effects, but all interfaces are missing and all the dropdown menus are grayed out. When I close it, it says After Effects has crashed, contact support, error 0:42. I have uninstalled/deactivated and reinstalled, run codec sniper, removed xmi preference settings and nothing works. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Did you run the CS3 Clean Script? If not, please do so before attempting any reinstalls. More info on such stuff here and here.

  • After Effects CS6 input v source issues......

I have 1080P 25 MXF dnxhd 185 8 bit footage that has been graded in Davinci Resolve. I have outputted the footage as 1080P 25 Quicktime Dnxhd 185 8 bit as After Effects doesnt seem to support MXF.
I imported this footage into AE added neatvideo noise reduction and rendered the output as Quicktime DNXHD 185 1080P 25 with a couple of issues.
The output is blurry where movement happening such as hand gestures,  and visually looks interlaced (it isn't Im just describing the look)
Furthermore I viewed both the Source file and AE render in Quicktime player and looked at the inspector for details:
The source data rate read: 185mbits/s
The AE output data rate read: 598.22mbits/s
The output file is much bigger than the input file....
Im wondering why.... as I made all the codec settings consistent with the original. I dont know if this is why the output has gone wrong or ifd its something else, but DnxHD 185 should be 185 mbits shouldnt it?

Use TIFFs. AE doesn't play well with the Avid CoDecs. Adobe blames Avid, Avid blames Adobe. You get the idea... 'nuff said.

  • Resources for beginners: getting started with After Effects

Check out the items under the "Getting started" heading on the
After Effects Community Help and Support page. That'll give you an introductory set of free video tutorials and a brief overview of the general After Effects workflow.
Once you've worked through those items, go to the bottom and sidebar of the
After Effects Community Help and Support page and familiarize yourself with the resources available to you there.
I post a lot of links to additional resources on
    my blog, too.
After Effects Help on the Web
is your friend. As is this forum.
You can find these links in the banner at the top of this forum, too.
[Edit: I just checked, and I don't like the order in which the videos are presented on the Adobe TV website. I recommend following the order that I outline in the
"Video tutorials" section of After Effects Help. They're the same tutorials, but my order is more... uh... orderly.]

I suggest you use the support chat or create a support case and then post the case number. One of the staff guys will pick it up and provide the necessary details. I think there's a special support for military personnel somewhere that can take care of such matters through special channels, if need be...

  • Lost support for CR2 (Canon RAW) in After Effects following AdobeCameraRAW 8.4.0.199 update

Has Adobe dropped Canon RAW support in After Effects?
I do timelapses.  I grade in Lightroom, create xmps, then drag the folder containing the CR2s and xmps from the Finder window into After Effects to create the sequence.
I was post-processing timelapses in After Effects on April 7th, 2014.  I then receive an update notification for Camera Raw 8.4.0.199.  I closed all open apps and updated.  Once the update had finished, I reopened the same project in After Effects, to find that After Effects no longer supports CR2 (Canon RAW).
Can't work with old projects containing CR2, likewise can't import new folders from the Finder window by clicking and dragging, or otherwise.   Can't even import a single still CR2 file into After Effects since updating.
    Error ( 39 :: 7 )
    iMac 10.1 (maxed out)
    MBP Retina 10.1 (maxed out)
    CS6 Production Premium
    Lightroom 5
Same results on both computers since updating.

    Thanks Rick,
Though this workflow may be valid from this point on, I unfortunately have a library of around 11 TB of CR2 images that I use on a regular basis in After Effects.  Going back and converting these images to DNG or JPEG would equate to an immesurable amount of time lost, not to mention the massive amount of additional hard drive space that would be required.
I've used this workflow on an almost daily basis for two and half years.  I've only experienced a similar problem when Lightroom upgraded to version 5.  AdobeCameraRaw was buggy when linking to other Adobe apps, but the problem was soon taken care of by Adobe.
Adobe still advertises CR2 support for After Effects 11 on their website.  It worked without a hitch until the recent update.
    Has anyone experienced similar problems?
Where can I find the install page for legacy versions of AdobeCameraRaw?

  • Why is the Nvidia GTX 680 CUDA card supported by Premiere Pro CC, and NOT After Effects CC?

Why is the Nvidia GTX 680 CUDA card supported by Premiere Pro CC, and NOT After Effects CC?

Thanks Todd for all the info.  It is much appreciated and very helpful.  On a different note, could you possibly direct me to the correct forum to fix this bug?  I am suddenly recieving a warning on my System SSD referencing Adobe Exchange.  Here is a screen grab to best explain:

  • Is it possible to exclude one video card from After Effects.  There are 2 in this system and one, I believe, does not have CUDA support.

This system has 2 video cards.  A new nVidia Quadra 4000 and an older BlackMagic DeckLink Extreme 3D+. I would like After Effects to use only the nVidia card so I can take advantage of CUDA. Is there a preference I can set so that AE only uses the nVidia card?

What version of After Effects do you have (down to the decimal points)?

  • Nvidia quadro 4000 for mac and os 10.6.8 on After Effects CS6 (11.0.2) Cuda don't work

    Hi,
We bought an Nvidia Quadro 4000 for Mac for use RayTrace on After Effects CS6 (11.0.2) with our Mac Pro 5.1 on OS 10.6.8.
And the Mac lost the Cuda driver when we restart it.
We use the Nvidia driver 256.02.25f01 for Mac Os 10.6.8 and we made test on different Cuda driver (4.1.25, 4.2.10, 5.0.37 and 5.0.47).
When we install Cuda driver and start directly After Effects 11.0.2 it’s works (after effects see the GPU processor).
But when we restart the Mac and try to launch After Effects, AE doesn’t see GPU processor and ask to install Cuda driver 4.0 or later.
Do you know this problem ?
Do you have a solution ?
    Thanks.
And sorry for my English !

    Hi All,
I'm having the exact same problem on 10.6.8 with a brand new Quadro 4000.  My CUDA preferences are up to date, but After Effects CS6 is not seeing the card.
GPUSniffer gives me some really weird results, which I've included.  Of particular note there is a repeated "just leaking" message, an "invalid drawable" and "Did not find any devices that support GPU computation."
Anyone have a fix for this?  We just dropped a lot of money on this card so I could squeeze some more life out of this workstation (Mac Pro 4,1 dual quad 2.66 with 12GB RAM).
