For some reason the deamon manager service on this server refuses to start. Here is what I
    see when trying to start:
error 1053. The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
I tried to reboot the server, no luck. tried different accounts to log on service, no luck. any ideas?

What kind of link connects the 6509? Is it appearing in topo services at all?
If you poll the CISCO-CDP-MIB on the 3750's is it showing data correctly? Are these switches stacked?
You might want to do another discovery with debug enabled to see what is happening for both.

  • After installing Mountain Lion, my iTunes app wont start, why ???

After installing Mountain Lion, my iTunes app wont start, why ??? It bounces in the dock, then "Unexpectedly Quirs"

    Let's keep it simple...
    1) Make a new user - the steps are in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1199
    2) Log into that user, open iTunes, agree, etc. - it will probably work
    3) If it does, it tells us that iTunes (the program) is fine but it's encountering something unexpected
    4) Go back to your user, and try to open iTunes while holding option and making a new library - like suggested in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589
    5) Your iTunes will be empty. This is ok. Your files are not touched by this process.
    6) If iTunes doesn't quit when loading an empty library, you could try rebuilding the iTunes Library as Apple documents in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
    7) If iTunes does quit, it could be trying to grab something - like photo information to sync to your iPad - and that's where it finds the unexpected data. Maybe try moving the iPod Photo Cache? http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1324 should guide you for how to do that.
If you tell us whether it is library-specific, user-specific, or system-wide (happens in both users), we could maybe give you better advice on what's going on.'
If the new user has the same behavior, maybe remove the SC Info folder - there are not many system-wide files iTunes touches. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389 covers how to remove that invisible folder.
iTunes uses /Applications/iTunes.app, /Users/Shared/SC Info, ~/Music/iTunes/ and ~/Library/Preferences/ and a bunch of other files. I don't think focusing on /Applications/iTunes/app or other system-wide files is going to be as effective as knowing whether the issue is system-wide or user-specific.
I hope this helps and feel free to reply if this is all confusing.

  • After installing an update my iMac will not start

I have an old iMac purchased in Feb '06   Intel 2 GHz 20" .  It serves some basic needs and I enjoy the machine.  Recently I was notifyed of an available update from Apple and I downloaded it and installed it.  The machine now comes up to a white screen with the Apple logo in the center and a spinning pinwheel beneath.  I have attempted to force it to a recovery disk, safe mode and disk manager at startup with no results.  I then inserted the installation disk and started it with the same results.  It will not eject the disk.
I would love to know if there is something else I can do here before taking it into the Apple Geniius.
    Thanks     Jerry

Paul, thanks for your  suggestions.  Regrettably, none of these procedures helped my problem. Interestingly I just installed the same update on my 3 year old iMac and that same screen came on and remained for an unusual amount of time.  It took an excessive amount of time to finally come back with running apps in place.  A recent update on my MacBook Air went on briskly.  I'm not sure what any of that means but there it is.  By the way - I let the old iMac run with that startup screen for over an hour thinking it may just be old and needs more time.  Being older myself, I felt it couldn't hurt.
Thanks.  I am not sure what the Genius Bar can do but it seems that is my next move unless someone comes up with a magic bullet out here.

cannot start apple mobile device. error code 193: Oxc.1

    Actually my iTunes just started!!!!
So if anyone else is having this problem, the last thing I tried was copying the QTMovieWin.dll from my C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder to my C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes folder and started my iTunes Helper.exe
    Hope that can help someone!

  • Windows 8.1 Pro not booting after install of Hyper V - ASUS z87 + intel 4670K

    Hi,
I am running windows 8.1 pro on a intel 4670K 4th Gen Haswell CPU and ASUS z87 plus motherboard. 16gb of kingston hyperx ddr1600 memory.
I have enabled virtualisation technology in the bios.  CPU has SLAT.... or Extended Page Table, as intel likes to refer to it.
When I install HyperV platform and management tools the computer configures and reboots
AFter reboot it brings up the blue window image and spinning circle of dots for a while then reboots. It does the same thing again and then reboots and goings into repair mode and asks me to do a system restore. It then restores to before they HyperV install.
I've tried turning off xHCI mode (i.e USB 3.0) in the bios as this seemed to be a known issue with some gigabyte boards. This did not rectify the issue
Updated to latest asus mainboard bios 1405.  Same issue still occurs upon install of hyper V.
Automatic repair does not work and I have to restore from system restore point.
I performed a clean boot after installing the feature and it still couldnt boot to windows.. it just sits at windows logo and then restarts a few times and then launches the startup repair. Once the startup repair begins, the only way I can get into windows
is restoring to a system restore point from before the hyperv feature install.

  • IMac 24" doesn't start after installing Mavericks.

After installing Mavericks (10.9.2) the machine started having hiccups... rebooting at random times on it's own.  After upgrading to 10.9.3, it only got worse.  Reboots were more frequent (as little as 1 minute between each reboot).  Then it took the final step and went into a state where it remains with black screen, the startup jingle may begin, but is killed within half a second or less... goes into a reboot loop.  The DVD sounds, then it tries to reboot again, DVD sounds... sometimes the jingle starts... but is cut off by a reboot.  Trying to get ANYTHING done with different key press combinations (option+command+R+P, D, T, Command, Option... pretty much every single combination one can find online for accessing safe boot or recovery or whatever... does not work.  The machine seems to have been killed by Mavericks.  I have come across a LOT of posts by other people who have experienced the same thing (rebooting after installing Mavericks) going back to October last year, and a few have experienced the same dead computer issue as I am having... all the while there is no fix or explanation from APPLE regarding this issue.  I have even opened the machine up and checked all cable connections, tested the HDD on another computer (was ok), cleaned the memory module connectors etc.  Before the total crash I had installed a temperature monitoring program with ventilator control, due to the DVD ventilator running at high RPM after installing Maverics.  All the temp sensors were reporting modest temps (ranging from 39 - 79 Celsius (only the power supply was above 50 Celsius).
The computer is as useful as a brick by this point. Since it went dead, it has successfully started up 3 times (out of 500+ attempts), but rebooted within a couple of minutes, into it's cycle of dead reboots.
One way of getting it to boot and prepare for re-installation, is to keep the power button pressed until it sounds 3 times long, 3 times short and 3 times long beeps... it would only start making the first beep... then it rebooted in to death again.
Could it be that Mavericks is destroying the firmware, or even killing the hardware?  I also have Mavericks on MBA and MBP, where the MBA has no problems, while the MBP freezes up every 2 days or so... requiring a forced reboot.
Anyone with a usable advice on what to do in order to get the machine working again?  How many years does it normally take APPLE support staff to fix serious issues like this one?  It's already been over 7 months since the first people began experiencing these issues with Mavericks, but nothing has been done about it on APPLE's end ... as far as I can tell.
    Looking forward to some solutions.

Just wanted to write the conclusion of this issue here, and make things as clear as possible.
I took the iMac to a support center, and they confirmed that several components on the power supply board were fried and other parts had been overheated.  It took a few weeks for them to get the needed parts (much cheaper than replacing the entire unit).  I brought the iMac back home and started it up, and it did work... but it was getting very hot very quickly. I was thinking that maybe I should install Mountain Lion on it, and get away from Mavericks... just in case.... the computer had been turned on for around 1 hour at that point, and then it rebooted.... and stayed dead for 10 minutes or so... until it could start up again.  Was on for a few minutes... then dead again.
Clearly the cause of the problem was still present, and fixing the symptom did not prove to be a lasting solution.
The machine would not stay turned on long enough (when it DID turn on) for even formatting the disk, so I removed the SDD from it, formatted it with my MBA (connected through USB), and inserted it in the iMac again.  Starting it up resulted in a few minutes being turned on, overheating and crashing. Having downloaded ML and created a USB installer for it, it was now a case of trying one's patience ... hoping for the machine to stay turned on long enough to make it all the way through the installation process.... it managed to do the first part of the installation after several hours of crashing and overheating.... and it came to a point where I simply turned it off and gave up... thinking that the problem simply was physical in nature, and not caused by Mavericks as I had assumed from the start.  Next day I had renewed energy, turned the puter on and it behaved in the same way... turning off, then starting by itself trying to get through the installation.... it would fail again and again... I left the house, with it turned on, hoping that it would at least manage to finish at some point in time... so that I could write off my "BAD Mavericks" suspicion.  When I returned several hours later, the installation was complete and the machine was purring quietly and the back of the computer was NOT hot like a steam iron.
Now it has been working for several days without any problems at all.
    The final conclusion is this:
Mavericks IS at fault, and will physically DESTROY computers that are "somehow" not compatible with it.  I would have thought that Apple had enough capable engineers to prevent the operating system to mess up the hardware in this way, but clearly I was wrong on that account.  I can only WARN other people to even attempt installing Mavericks on puters of this type:
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:   iMac
      Model Identifier:     iMac7,1
Processor Name:       Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:      2.4 GHz
      Number of Processors: 1
      Total Number of Cores:        2
      L2 Cache:     4 MB
      Memory:       4 GB
      Bus Speed:    800 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:     IM71.007A.B03
      SMC Version (system): 1.21f4
      Serial Number (system):       W8*******X89
      Hardware UUID:        00000000-0000-1000-8000-001B639688F7
Anyone claiming that Mavericks is not at fault, is plain and simple WRONG, in DENIAL or LYING.  There is absolutely NO doubt in my mind any longer, that the problem was indeed Mavericks getting installed on the machine and messing with the hardware on a level where it should never happen. If someone working at Apple would like to purchase/replace my iMac in order to test it and figure out that this is a REAL problem, they are welcome to do so. I think it is more than guaranteed that the damage caused by this Mavericks nightmare installation will never be recovered, nor will the time and work lost ever be compensated, but I would actually like Apple to acknowledge their responsibility and failure to address this issue in a professional and responsible way.
IF Mavericks was NOT at fault, then someone should explain the logic behind the machine physically burning components shortly after the installation of Mavericks, and even when the SDD had been wiped clean with no OS, it was still overheating and shutting off, until it could finally have ML installed... and at that point it was cured and has worked flawlessly ever since.  Not a single hiccup, no over heating, no problems.
My offer to sell/replace the iMac stands if Apple is really interested in looking at this SERIOUS issue with Mavericks.  This is NOT a minor issue they should expect simply goes away, or will be ignored by people who experience their machines BURNING to pieces.
On my MBA and MBP Mavericks is not causing any problems, so it is not "all bad", but for the iMac it meant total annihilation.
Anyone who has installed Mavericks on their iMac of similar age as mine, having rebooting and overheating problems: REMOVE the Mavericks installation ASAP and get ML on it before it goes up in flames!
Other Mac's have been reported having the rebooting/overheating problems as well, although I have not noted down which builds those were.  The problem is REAL and COSTLY for those who experience it.... both time-wise and in terms of lost time/work.
Hopefully this will help others from getting the same terrible experience as I got, and save some computers from burning up.

  • InDesign does not start after installing it first time due to missing plug ins ("Zusatzmodule")

    Hello,
I was using up to now InDesign CS3, but I bought the upgrade to InDesign CS 6.
After installing the new version I tried to start it, but during the start it complains about missing plugins and stops.
So, I can not run CS 6.
The missing modules are: SVG Export.apln and Dynamicdosuments.rpln.
What can I do to make CS 6 running?
    Thank you,
    Gunnar

    Hello Mylenium,
    thank you for your answer.
I have to admit, that unfortunately I dont understand the reply. I was uninstalling, running the Adobe CS cleaner tool for CS 6, reinstalling (as suggested in other entryies of the forum). No improvement.
Question A: Do I have to run the cleaner tool for all CS including CS 3? I am a bit afraid of side effects and have nothing running afterwards. Since nobody confirmed in the forum that this will help I dont dare to play around.
Question B: Coming back to your proposal, what do you mean by proper admin privileges? I am the only user on this laptop and never did something to any admin configurations.
Finally, I installed CS 6 on another laptop. This works. However, this one I dont want or can't work with for other reasons.

  • Firefox desktop and start menu shortcuts were hidden after install - why?

    Hi
I just installed Firfox 5 and after installing both the desktop shortcut and the start menu shortcut were marked as hidden in windows.
Anyone else experienced this and have any ideas what could have caused this. It was rather confusing.
I'm running on a brand new laptop (Dell XPS-17) running Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit). The only candidate I can think of is the computer came with McAffee, which I haven't used in years. It was appallingly bad back then but thought I'd give it a chance as Dell gave me 15months free.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I would like to suggest you try these steps to figure out what could be causing this problem.
    1. Run Troubleshooter
Open the Search and Indexing troubleshooter
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Search-and-Indexing-troubleshooter
    2. Create a new library and include fewer folders for test purpose. Now search for a file from that folder. See if it works.
    Create a new library
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-new-library
    3. Try to rebuild search indexing. Refer the steps from the following article.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-advanced-indexing-options
Also you may use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to check the issue. The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.
How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7
