After installing Samsung MZ-7PC128 MBP randomly got frozen

Hello everybody,
This is my first personal case I have to write down, till now I was able to solve my issues basing on topics here.
So my story is - I have Samsung SSD MZ-7PC128D/EN and after installing my Macbook Pro started to suffer from random about 30 seconds froze.
I am using brand new installed 10.7.5, my SSD has latest firmware, details below:

Freezing last about 30 seconds and its random, online and offline, during playing my only game installed Diablo 3, during watching tv shows in avi and mp4, surfing web with Safari and Firefox.
Point is that even I am glad to have my old MBP faster, those frozes are getting me considering using again my old fabric HDD 5400 rpm.
Anybody any ideas?

Hello:
What do you mean I should look at the Samsung self-installation?
I had no problems with the installation, Have installed SSD in my Macbook Pro aswell, no problems there
"Standard" troubleshooting steps look at variables first (not something like OS X 10.8).
I read something about the RAM, I just insalled 2x8GB Corsair Mac Memory in my iMac, could that have something to do with anything?
Yes.  You failed to mention this in your first post.  Macs are notoriously picky about memory.  I know nothing about the third-party memory you installed, but I would certainly take it out and see if that addresses your problem.

  • After installing Firefox 8.0 I´ve got problems with surfmusic.de/radioaland.fi

After installing Firefox 8.0 I´ve got problems with starting Radio Åland (only!) by surfmusic.de. After complaning here it did function 1 day. Now it doesn´t function again!
But I can listen to "all" other stations by Surfmusic and I can listen to Radio Åland by Internet Explorer!
Why can´t I choose an earlier Firefox by Your downloading site?

That is an MMS stream: mms://media.alcom.aland.fi/radiotv
Can you open that link directly in a media player?

Calibrating the battery is always a good option. It is far too soon for battery life to drop down as much as you mentioned. Once you do the calibration see what happens and if there are no improvements get applecare to send you a new one.

  • Hard drive unusable after installing in powered on MBP

    Hey all,
I have a 2010 13'' MBP that has a 250GB hard drive, and recently I had a chance to upgrade to a 2010 15'' model. Since the previous owner planned to move his HDD out of the Mac, I would have to install my own HDD. I've nearly filled the drive to capacity, so I decided to upgrade to a bigger hard drive, and then put that in the bigger MBP. I got a 320GB laptop drive, performed a fresh install of Mavericks on it, and during the initial run with Setup Assistant I migrated everything off of the 250 to the new drive. After the setup was complete, I booted into the fresh install with my data to ensure everything was working, and it appeared that it was fine. I then shut off the machine, and disconnected the 320GB from the Mac.
I opened up the 15'' MBP, removed the prior owner's HDD, and replaced it with my new 320GB HDD. What I didn't know was that the MBP was still powered on: it was simply in sleep mode with the lid closed. I hadn't thought to check to ensure that the Mac was off before I did the drive replacement.
As a result, when I opened the lid on the Macbook, the machine woke up, and was still displaying his desktop and open applications. I quickly closed out of all the applications and shut the laptop off. When I rebooted, it was as I feared: the machine went straight to the OS X Utilities menu, and when I attempted to repair the drive in Disk Utility, I was warned that the drive couldn't be repaired. The drive also did not appear with the Mac partition in Disk Utility: it was just displayed as disk0s2.
I've tried repairing the drive with Disk Utility, Disk Warrior, and Drive Genius, and none of them have been able to recover/repair the parition. Is it possible that when I replaced the hard drive while the MBP was still powered on, the current session somehow damaged the hard drive's partition or file table?

Based on your description, you closed applications that were opened with another drive. This would certainly seem to have the potential to really screw things up. Given the situation, it probably would have been better to hold down the power key and do a hard shutdown to prevent writing anything to the wrong disk.
Why not just reinstall? You've tried pretty much everything else. Repartition and reformat your drive first, then migrate from the old one.

  • Problems after installing SSD in 2009 MBP

I'm using a 256gb OCZ Octane SSD and decided to dual HDD. Im using OSX Moutain Lion with 8gigs of RAM. After I installed the SSD I came upon problems. My mbp freezes on start up: it has the apple and the spinning loading icon and stays like that for a couple minutes before restarting itself and just staying a grey screen. It boots in safe mode and by chance boots if I manually tell it to boot from the SSD. How do I get my mbp to boot from the SSD with the expected speed of the SSD?
Also, with the 2nd internal HDD how do I find my files that I'd like to keep on it? The HDD doesnt show up in the finder as an accessible volume although it does appear when I open disk utility. My goal is to have boot up, apps, and games on the SSD but music, movies, files, etc on the HDD.
I have the SSD located in the original HDD spot and the HDD in the optibay. Are those fine locations for my model (5,2)? I read somewhere else online that early models like mine should put the SSD in the optibay and keep the HDD where it is.
    Please help!
I did do a clean install osx mountain lion but migrated users and apps. would a clean install of everything work better?

  • After installing VLC (64bit), my MBP only reads CDs and ejects DVDs. Uninstalling VLC did not fix the problem.  What do I do?

I have recently installed VLC media player (64bit), played a movie file on a DVD+RW for 30 seconds, then decided to stop the movie.  I poped the DVD out, and a minute later I reinserted the same DVD, it was ejected after 10 second.  Now when ever I insert the DVD in my MBP it gets ejected.  It reads my CDs but does not read my DVD. Uninstalling VLC did not fix it.  I am not even sure at this if VLC caused the problem.  What do I do?

Have you rebooted since uninstalling VLC?

  • After Installing More Ram, MBP Crashes When Using Battery Power

I own a 2.16 Ghz MBP. Last night, I installed 4 Gigs of ram (2x2 Gigs)purchased from crucial.com into my MBP. (Yes, I realize that the MBP only utilizes about 3.3 Gigs of the ram, but I wanted the benefits of running with a matched pair).
After installing the ram, my MBP recognizes the new ram and everything seemed fine. And, it was fine until I unplugged the MBP's power and went mobile. Then, after a few minutes of use, the MBP completely shut down and turned off. I tried turning it back on, but it would not. So, I plugged the MBP and it booted up fine. I unplugged it again, and again, after a few minutes of use, the MBP shut down completely. Being that the battery was fully charged, I don't know why it would behave this way.
Any way, anybody have any ideas as to what might be wrong?

It sounds as if you have a defective battery. I would call Apple and explain your MBP's symptoms. If the battery is swollen it is likely a candidate.

  • Anyone getting this pop up error message after installing Lion?

After installing Lion I now get random pop up error messages that say...There was a problem connecting to the server. URL's with the type "file" are not supported. I have to keep closing them. Any ideas what to do?

Actually, In my case, turning off Time Machine didn't help. I had the same problem. We definitely traced it to Time Machine. The "Fix" was this: plugged in and designated different external HD as Backup volume. Then unplugged it and plugged in the original disc (after testing in in a different machine) and now the computer recognized it and error message stopped popping up. The Apple tech was as puzzled as I as to why this worked, but perhaps, forcing the machine to re-recognize it (or maybe even gettting it recognized by a different machine first) somehow worked some magic.

  • Launchpad layout resetted after installing Netgear Genie. How to undo?

After installing netgear genie my launchpad layout got resetted as if you buy a new mac, with on the other pages all other applications sorted by name. Really annoying. Cant find the .app of the genie app, the app isnt in the applications folder, nowhere on my HDD. It is in my lauchpad though.
How can I uninstal this piece of bad software and gat my launchapad layout back to normal?

I had the same problem, Just happened the 2nd time to me with new upgrade. I had to go back and re do all my folders and arrange my apps again, relay *****. Never again, un installed Net gear Genie.

  • My mbp (mid 2010) is running extremely slow after installing some mavericks updates on May 22nd.

My mbp (mid 2010) is running extremely slow after installing some mavericks updates on May 22nd. Earlier I thought this behavior is due to spotlight indexing but it finished after 3 days. I deleted all caches from library. But no luck, still running extremely slow. I checked activity monitor for cpu usage, it shows above 90% is idle. The memory usage always shows PM - 4 GB, Memory Used 3.96 GB, VM - 4 GB, Swaped used 0 bytes, App Memory 1.82 GB, File Cache 1.44 GB, Wired Memory 480 MB.
    Thanks in adavnce for help.

Was it the combo updater that was installed or the OS X 10.9.3 update. There is a difference.
MORE INFO ON WHY RUNNING COMBO FIXES ISSUES
Apple updates available from the Software Update application are incremental updates. Delta updates are also incremental updates and are available from Apple Downloads (software updates are generally smaller than delta updates). The Combo updates contain all incremental updates and will update files that could have become corrupted.
Combo updaters will install on the same version as they're applying--no need to roll back or do a clean install. So if you think you've got a borked 10.8.4 install from a regular update, just run the 10.8.4 Combo Updater on that system.
"Delta" updaters can only take you from one version to the next. For example: 10.9.1 to 10.9.2. If somehow the 10.9.2 is missing something it should have, and that something isn't changed between 10.9.1 and 10.9.2 it will still be stale after the delta update.

Numbers does not open with the main user after installing mountain lion. It works flawlessly when I use the second account on my mac. What got corrupted in the admin-account, something in the user-library? How can I fix it? I´m kinda desperate... (the same happens with the other iWork-Apps!)
Looking forward to hearing from somebody with a littlemore expertise than me, Chris

you can remove preferences files by navigating to the Preferences folder for your user as follows:
    0) Quit ALL iWork apps (Keynote, Pages and Numbers)
    1) from the Finder select the menu item "Go > Go To Folder…".  This will bring up a dialog:
    2) enter the path "~/Library/Preferences" (no double quotes)
    3) find the files:
    com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
and move these to the trash.  I would NOT empty until later.
    4) restart Numbers
