After one year, why will CS3 not let me include commas in file names?

For nearly a year, we have been scanning obits and opening the scans in CS3 on a Windows Vista laptop. We change the mode from bitmap to grayscale in order to save them as a JPG. We then save the file in the manner as follows: JONES, Kathryn Lillis (George) 1890-1944
Now the option to save as a JPG is not available and the following error message appears:
“An item cannot contain any of the following characters <> etc., including a comma (our trouble), because they interfere with cross-platform compatibility".
I uninstalled CS3 and reinstalled. No luck there. I called Adobe Tech Support in INDIA…..spent over two hours on hold and 10 minutes talking to two different people with the end result of being informed I would have to pay a fee because CS3 is not the newest version and hence unsupported. As a fix to be able to keep on working, I tried installed Elements 2.0 this morning. That failed also with an error message that the virtual memory used by windows did not allow enough free space and could lead to stability problems.
So what happened with a process that ran fine for nearly a year?

It's probably telling you that you need 1.5 more GB than you have available. Hook up your device to iTunes on the computer you sync with and do the update from there. OTA updates require a lot more memory than ones done via iTunes.

Why will CS3 not recognize Pict files?

Why is it that CS3 Photoshop will not open Pict files, even after
going into Image Info and saying open all images like this Pict file in CS3.

I can open the Tiger OS application PREVIEW and open the same Pict file?
I can open any Pict file in Preview and convert to jpg, then CS3 seems to
recognize the image file and open it.

The Mac Paint.plugin has to be in ./Applications/Adobe Photoshop Cs3/plug-Ins/File Formats/Mac Paint.plugin
You need to find the Mac Paint.plugin in the Goodies/Optional Plug_ins/File Formats/… then relaunch Photoshop.

Your license allows for enabled installations on two machines. If you are unable to install on a second machine you will need to provide more information if you want help resolving the problem. At what stage does the failure to install occur? What messages do you encounter when it fails? What are your system specifications? How do your system specs compare to the Software system requirements?

Why Will Facetime not let me sign in?

I got my iPod Touch 4 in San Francisco Apple Store, December 2010. Apple Store Rep helped me set it all up.
Everything has been working fine, until a week or so ago when, out of the blue, my FaceTime just stopped working.
When I click on the FaceTime button, It stops at a screen with a couple options:
"Initiate session" (where my original email and passwords are already typed in)
and "Create new Session”
It keeps telling me my password is wrong when I never changed it. If I try to create a new session it says my Email account already exists!!
History:
I tried clicking on the initiate session while it keeps telling me my password is wrong.
I even erased the email address and the password and typed it all again, to make sure there us no extra spaces typed in there.
After several attempts, I signed in at Apple.com to change my password. I was not aware of the uppercase letter requirement for FaceTime, since an Apple Rep set my iPod up for me. So I created a new password with all small case letters and a few numbers. I still could not sign in facetime, although I could update other apps, enter my account at Apple.com etc.
So a friend of mine told me to change the password back to what it was (including the upper case letter). I did so. Still I can not not sign in -- "wrong password,” it says! (I guess the email is correct, since FaceTime does not say anything about the email, it even prompts me with the correct email.
I then tried creating a new session, but then, during the process of creating the id, it tells me my password cannot be the same as my Apple ID. I am at a loss.
And when attempting to create a new session, Facetime tells me the Email account already exists. I even signed in this Forum with my original email and reset password used in iPod Apple ID, the same originally used with Facetime, which is the one my friend told me to reset here at Appleid admin.
So I can do everything with my email and password except get into FaceTime. How come?
Do I need now a new E-Mail account and new password exclusively to access FaceTime. This sounds ridiculous!
I just cannot make my FaceTime work!
Can anyone help me? I have tried much of what some people has posted herein the discussion forum, such as the uppercase + number password, the DNS change to match my router, and/or the one from google; also I made sure there is no Firewall in my modem. After all attempts nothing has changed, I never changed my password to start with when FaceTime started saying Wrong Password! FaceTime will not let me in and nothing can make it work. I am abroad now, there is no Genius Apple Store where I am! Also my warranty to telephone assistance with Apple has expired! Please somebody who knows the secret to access FaceTime, I need help!

Same thing happened to me. My son's iPod touch suddenly started indicating that my "username or PW had changed" or was "incorrect" so I paid Apple $30 to find out that all that was required was updating the software by plugging his iPod into my computer & syncing with iTunes. My problem was then solved.

Battery died after one year. Will not charge. Why?

I spent $125 on a nano last year and in 12 months it wont charge. Yes I have it plugged into a wall outlet. Has been for 14 hours now ans still wont charge. Is the recommendation to buy a new one?

Ruled out battery (as crazy as that sounds - it's had a bajillion cycles) as it didn't make sense that battery would charge but wouldn't work while awake. I have a friend whose battery is completely shot and his still works as long as magsafe is plugged in, and mine wouldn't even do that. tried another adapter and that worked. then tried mine in a different plug. so in the end, turns out I had a bum powerstrip... mag safe / battery recharge works properly when just plugged in somewhere different.
So no need to buy a new charger or battery (yet!)

Have Mozilla 10.4.11 version on my Mac iBookG4 but will not open to internet,using Safari right now, why will it not let me use it as my main browser?

I was given this laptop from my sister. When she was showing me how to use the computer she was unable to go on the internet using Firefox. She also had Safari installed so we went on using that. We found the version of Firefox as 10.4.11. I use firefox on my PC and would like to use on the laptop also. Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how the remedy the situation?

It's a subscription, not a rate purchase. You never own anything. You have to pay to keep using the product.

(1) You say you did the symbolic link. I will assume this is set correctly; it's very important that it is.
(2) I don't know what you mean by "Been feeding the [email protected] for several weeks now, 700 emails each day at least." After the initial training period, SpamAssassin doesn't learn from mail it has already processed correctly. At this point, you only need to teach SpamAssassin when it is wrong. [email protected] should only be getting spam that is being passed as clean. Likewise, [email protected] should only be getting legitimate mail that is being flagged as junk. You are redirecting mail to both [email protected] and [email protected] ... right? SpamAssassin needs both.
(3) Next, as I said before, you need to implement those "Frontline spam defense for Mac OS X Server." Once you have that done and issue "postfix reload" you can look at your SMTP log in Server Admin and watch as Postfix blocks one piece of junk mail after another. It's kind of cool.
(4) Add some SARE rules:

After one year Imac is all of a sudden running real slow?.

After one year my Desktop imac has started to run slow. I have done the usual top ten solutions but no change.
Is there a way to scan an Apple for any type of virus that may have slipped under the radar?

Since you've already tried a number of items without success please give these suggestions a try. Hopefully you can narrow down the issue.
First check the status of your hard driveby launching the Disk Utility application that is located in the Applications/Utilities folder. Click on the Verify Disk option and observe whether it reports any major errors. You can also boot from the Install DVD that came with your system by holding down the 'c' key and then pulling down the Utilities menu bar item to select Disk Utility. Either way will work. If the disk checks out OK then click on theRepair Permissions option.
To get a more detailed picture of the SMART status (hard drive error logging) you can use an application like SMART Utility which can be downloaded here. Obviously downloading a new application could be a problem if you're system is 'hanging' whenever you try to write something, so this may not be an option.

If you find any significant errors, make sure you back up your data if you haven't already done so. If there aren't any significant errors then go into the System Preferences and click on Users & Groups. Try creating a new user account and then log into it to see if you have the same issues. Creating a new user for test purposes will help confirm whether you are dealing with some sort of software issue.
If a new user account resolves the issue then log back into the slow user account and open the Activity Monitor application located in the Applications/Utiliteis folders, then click on the CPU button. In the lower left corner you should see a summary listing the % User, % System, % Idle. What are these percentages? If the CPU idle percentage is near zero then you have a process running that is consuming your CPU time. To try and find it, pull down the menu to select 'All Processes', then click on the %CPU column to sort by the percent that each process is consuming your CPU. The numbers constantly change, but do your best to see if there are one or two processes consuming the majority of the CPU time and post the names. Then do the same test in the new user account. I suspect you may have some process from a previously installed utility, virus checker, etc. that is keeping your system busy. I've included a screenshot from my system below. It doesn't have much going on, and as you can see in the lower left corner the CPU is basically idle most of the time. If I were to launch a CPU intensive app the numbers would change dramatically.
Please share your findings so we can provide additional suggestions as we get more information from you.
