Aftermarket CPU cooler to fit P7N Diamond

Is there anyone who can recommend a good aftermarket CPU cooler that will fit on the new P7N Diamond?
Best regards /Pär

I'm sorry!
I missed to tell you what cpu I'm planing on using. Hopefully the new Intel Wolfdale: Core 2 Duo E8500 slightly overclocked.
I've read about the Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme. Seems to be a very good cpu cooler.
Any recommendations on a good 120mm fan for it?
The goal is a not to loud computer..
Any other recommendations....that will fit?
Regards! /Pär

  • Aftermarket CPU cooler to fit P6N Diamond and my new build

Hi, after my motherboard finally quit a couple weeks ago, I am starting to build my new system.  I just purchased a P6N Diamond motherboard and I'll be picking up an E6700 Core 2 Duo and I already know that I am going to overclock slightly.
With the heat pipes this board has, I'm wondering if and if so, what aftermarket CPU cooler will fit on this board.  I'm not going for a major overclock, but I would like to see 3GHz per core or slightly higher.
Also, Does anyone know what speed of RAM I should get to bump this processor up to 3GHz?  On my last setup, I used DDR 434 and ran it at speed to get the processor up from 3.0C to 3.24GHz and 3.4E to 3.67GHz (upgraded at one point).  I am still not sure on what RAM I should use yet for compatibility issues, but I guess I need to figure out the speed first.
I also just ordered my video card today as well.  I went with a EVGA eGeforce 8800GTX Superclocked card.  Later on down the road when the price comes down, I'll pick up another to run SLI.  From what I read on MSI's website, SLI (with the P6N Plat) doesn't support SLI in Vista... Is this true with the board, or will it be a driver/BIOS issue that can be fixed later?
The computer this is replacing is my HTPC.  I used and will again use this thing for just about everything.  I regularly watch movies, record/watch TV, listen to music, play games, etc.  I have it hooked up to a 40" flat panel LCD HDTV and have loved running and HTPC since I bought the TV in December.  Hopefully this next system lives up to what I'm hoping it will be.

The GeminII cooler may not fit. But the Tuniq is also too heavy IMO.
I would pick this; it has good clearance and is one of the best coolers on the market. Except for this obviously.
But it's all down to personal preference.
I really like the Thermalright SI-128 SE that you recommended.  My last Thermalright was able to cool my 3.4E @ 3.7GHz processor down when my old Zalman could not.  Do you know if this will fit?  I'm not sure the larger Thermalright will fit in my case...
Another option I was thinking about is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118019

  • NF750-G55 - Need help choosing aftermarket CPU heatsink

I am running a Phenom II 965 CPU and the factory heatsink/fan is no good. The fan is too loud. I noticed that the northbridge heatsink on this motherboard is REALLY close to the CPU heatsink bracket. Does anyone know which aftermarket CPU cooler will fit and will keep my X4 965 CPU cooler than the stock heatsink?
    Thanks all.

I use Noctua NH-C12P, its 6 heatpipes hover right above the mosfet heatsink nicely (the long one behind the ports).  It blows air down to the motherboard, cooling some components, give airflow to the memory slots, and the fins directs air towards the northbridge.  It helps cool down the northbridge as well (which is normally very hot).  I also put Thermalright HR-05/IFX on the northbridge for extra cooling effect.  The thermalright is a bit tight fit, but it works.  The fan that came with the Noctua is totally silent no audible sound at all.  Everything cool and quiet.  I used Scythe Katana before this and it already worked well but it did not help northbridge cooling.
Some problem with it is that it partially covers the memory slots close to the processor, and it requires specific mounting.

  • P7N Diamond Chipset Watercooling

I wanted to know if anyone has found a complete set of chipset waterblocks for the P7N Diamond. I've seen people use a Swiftech GPU block on the NB but there doesn't appear to be anything for the SB, MOSFETS or the PCI-E seperate...  I wouldn't mind doing just the NB and SB with passive cooling on the MOSFETS and a fan over the PCI-E chip between the video cards...
I'll have my system set-up on air before the end of the week and on water (hopefully) by the 15th. I'm using the D-Tek Fuzion CPU block, Liang D5 Vario pump and Swiftech Quiet Power 120.3 rad - hopefully I get a Q6600 that holds at 3.6Ghz... If I ever do find chipset blocks, I want to see if I can push it beyond 3.6Ghz into Maximus Formula terrain

    Hi all,
Is it really worthwhile to add aftermarket cooling to the p7n diamond chipset? Has anyone tried to keep the heatpipe yet find a way to add a waterblock under it for the NB (requiring some fancy bending/modding I'm guessing)? It is pretty and I'm using an acrylic case... I'm running a q9450, and am just looking for a stable fsb @ 400MHz (unless my ram can do better) - but I need it to be a reliable overclock with no worries about a hot NB. Do the other 780i chipset coolers fit this board or just the koolance one? To cool the CPU using an apogee block, NB block, and full coverage 8800gt block with 1/2" fittings, 7/16" tubing, and 1/2" modded top mcp350: would I need a dual 12cm Swiftech rad or triple? (The 8800gt is needed for an auxiliary touchscreen display/optional output since Quad SLI only has one output)
    Thanks for any suggestions!

  • Msi p7n-diamond and coolermaster hyper48

    Hi friends
Just wanted to know whether coolermaster CPU cooler Hyper48 will fit with msi p7n-diamond mobo with intel q6600.Will it work?
    Kindly suggest

I can't answer specifically, but did purchase and install a Rosewill RCX-Z4 120mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler for my p7n board with an E8400 processor.  I looked at that Coolermaster product but was a little concerned it wouldn't fit because of the heat pipes.  I opted to use the Rosewill brand as it had a better form factor, and it vents out the top of my case.
My only complaint about the Rosewill is you can't get to the CPU power connectors on the board (8 pin) inside the case with the cooler attached.  The fan assembly gets in the way.

What are you planning to do with it?
If you're not overclocking, then the standard cooler that comes with retail boxed CPU will be just fine.
i bought this CPU without retail box, so without cooler ,and i do want to overclock it in the future.

  • What cpu cooler for p7n diamond?

hey guys, i have a p7n diamond mb, and im wondering if the circu-pipe heatpipe assembly will get in the way of any aftermarket cpu coolers? im looking to put a promilateh megahelam on the mb for the cpu, but im not sure if it will fit! if ti wont fit, what should i use?

... a CNPS9900 is used on a P7N2 Diamond.  I know that you are asking about a P7N Diamond, but if you compare the Layouts of the two boards, you will find that they are very similar.
Thx . Dude u have the same processor as i have . Can u tell me the setting u have done in order to achieve max OC . Can u give me all the configs that has to be done in the cell menu .

  • [865PE/G Neo2 Series] Zalman CPU cooler doesn't fit, Northbridge Sink remove?

    Hi,
I have a problem fitting a Zalman (CNPS7000B-Cu) cpu cooler - the MSI northbridge sink is too high and too close to the cpu.
Can I replace the NB sink with one with a lower profile?
( Incidently, I'm not overclocking, although I do use this machine as an audio machine and it does get quite hot.
    - If I can replace - any recommendations?
    - If not - any recommendations for a reasonably priced and quiet cooler that will fit (i.e with a narrow profile).

I had the same problem on my 865PE Neo2-PFS Platinum Edition mobo. Zalman's website indicated that the CNPS7000a-AlCu fits on this board, but it doesn't. The diagonally placed northbridge heatsink is in the way. I originally thought I'd bend a few of the Zalman's fins out of the way, but then I decided if I could do something with the northbridge heatsink. I removed the northbridge heatsink and removed the 2 fins that were in the the way of the Zalman. I wanted to repalce the modded northbridge heatsink using some AS5 but the stock thermal goo (some pink stuff) was impossible to get off, even with alcohol or acetone. So I smeared some AS5 on anyway and just mooshed the heatsink back on with the pink junk and AS5.
I noticed that the northbridge gets really hot at stock speeds (200 FSB). I'm planning on overclocking my 2.4C to 3GHz (250 FSB) today, so I hope the northbridge doesn't burn up. Gonna aim a fan at it and hope for the best.
Hope the "bend 2 fins off the northbridge heatsink mod" helps all you guys that want to put Zalman's on your CPU's.

  • "I have an HP Pavillion computer & want 2 put in a quiet CPU cooler. Which one fits that's quietest?

I'm looking to do some home audio recording and need a quiet fan in the computer. The guys at Best Buy had me buy a Corsair A50, but the fitting wasn't correct for the Pavillion (not sure if 'fitting' is the correct word - I'm talking about where the CPU cooler sits). In addition, the A50 was too tall for the Pavillion's box. Any help would be appreciated.

  • MSI P7N Diamond nForce 780i CPU power connection

Hi guys quick question The CPU power on the P7N connection has a 4 pin and anther 4 pin with a plastic cover. My power PSU have also 4 and for 4 pin connection for the CPU power.  For the Q9300 do i need all 8.
    Let me know
    Thanks

If your PSU has two 4-pin +12V-connectors that can be combined to fit the into the board'a 8-Pin CPU-connector, remove the plastic cap and go for it.

A good processor HSF is more important than fins on the memory sticks. I normally suggest Thermalright U-120. If it fits I don't know.
    NOCTUA NH-U12P is another idea.
    Xigmatek Dark Knight S1283V.
Its basically the same thing as those two but only costs around $50.   Got it on my Phenom II now!  Check my review thread with the pictures of it on my K9N2 SLI Plat.

  • HELP! - Voltages for Overclocking Q9450 on the MSI P7N Diamond (780i chipset)

Hey.  I fully understand the settings as far as frequencies go, but am a total voltage newb.  No matter what I do I cant seem to get a stable vista load up with my voltage settings.
Please help me by providing suggested voltage settings for my hardware.
    CPU - Intel Core2Quad Q9450
    RAM - 6 gigs of DDR2-800 rated at 2.1V
VIDEO - Dual Nvidia Geforce 8800GT's in SLI
MOBO - MSI P7N Diamond, based off the Nvidia Nforce 780i SLI chipset
My cooling is sufficient, and I have the BIOS version 1.2
I also turned off all of the overclocking not friendly functions, example: spread spectrum, and DOT, ETC....
I am trying to run my CPU at 3.2 GHZ (400 mhz before multiplier)
my settings I want are (as shown in the P7N bios)
    System Clock Mode - Manual
    FSB clock - 1600
    DRAM clock - 800
Please help me by providing the proper voltages for my setup
Everything I need is marked by "???"
    CPU Voltage - ???
DRAM Voltage - (already have, its 2.1)
    NB voltage - ???
    SB voltage - ???
NB Memory reference voltage - ???
DIMM memory reference voltage - ???
    Memory terminator voltage - ???
CPU GTL reference voltage - ???
NB GTL reference voltage - ???
    FSB terminator voltage - ???
SB sleep mode voltage - ???
PCI Expander PLL voltage - ???
For the sake of you not typing too much, if you specify voltages, any that you do not specify will be assumed to be left at [AUTO]
PLEASE help me by providing some voltages for me, as I have absolutely no clue what to put for them.  If you have any questions about my hardware feel free to ask, and any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED

adjusting gtl ref. voltages isn't very difficult, but it is probably best to learn the basics first.
So, basically, increase the fsb a little. So, for example, from 1333 to 1400. See if it's stable, if it isn't try bumping up vcore one notch and try again. If not try Northbridge. Then later move on to stuff like the fsb term.
Test stability using prime95, there is a 64-bit multi-core aware version floating around somewhere. Try the ftp server linked to in the "hot use prime95" sticky on here.
Tbh with your OC you shouldn't need to touch any other voltages, or really use the gtl ref settings. What exactly is "sufficient" cooling though? Stock?
*EDIT: on a side note, just so you don't think I'm deliberately being awkward not telling you specific voltages, they wouldn't do you any good. Every cpu/mobo can handle different freq. at different voltages. Also, use cpu-z to check on your actual voltage and make sure you don't raise it beyond 1.3625 (I think that's right, it's 1.36something anyway)
Thanks for the tips.  The reason I wanted to jump straight to FSB 1600 is because the MSI p7n is really picky and only likes 1:1 ratios.
My "sufficient cooling" is an aftermarket heatsink, high performance thermal paste, and MASSIVE airflow through my case.  If you want specifics, its the Scythe Zipzang
Quote from: AaronYuri on 08-October-08, 09:05:16
CPU Voltage - No one can tell you this.
NB voltage - Depends on what frequency you want
SB voltage - What's your HDD setup?
NB Memory reference voltage - Auto
DIMM memory reference voltage - Auto
    Memory terminator voltage - Auto
CPU GTL reference voltage - Depends on speed and other voltages
NB GTL reference voltage - Same as above
FSB terminator voltage - Depends on CPU voltage and CPU/FSB clock speed
SB sleep mode voltage - Auto
PCI Expander PLL voltage - Auto
My recommendation is do some reading. Guessing leads to dead hardware.
6GBs smells like mixing modules... Or do you have 3 modules?
First of all, I already stated the frequencies that I wanted in the top post, and fairly clearly at that.
CPU shouldnt be too hard to figure out, as there are very few to choose from.  I'll try to get back to you on that one
I have 5, 7200rpm SATA 3.0 drives.  It sometimes runs with only 4, as one is a hot swap.
My ram IS mixed, unfortunately.  I'm using 2x 1gig sticks, and 2x 2gig sticks.  However, both sets have heatsinks, and are rated at 800mhz, 4-4-4-12, 2t, timings.  (2.1v)
I AM running them in dual channel.
If this helps you suggest voltages please do, If not, then I will just have to start trying using nihilkrist's suggestions.

  • Good things on P7N Diamond-yes I have it.

Just browsed through the owner's manual on the P7N Diamond..some things which are improved:
NO bios protection in Advanced Menu...means less bad flashes because the user didnt disable it..! Kudos MSI!
Cell menu has tons of available settings for overclocking..nice setup, finally!
Sata connectors are on the edge of the board.
    Added fan connectors
LED lights on almost every Pcie-e, CPU and memory connector.
Power switch and reset switch on the board..Kudos MSI!
No diagnostic header/led's..dont need them with the all the lights I guess?
Power supply connector is at the top of board..bad news for cases with power supplies at the bottom, aka Antec/etc..the 8 pin connector just barely reaches.
    A real Creative X-Fi card..Kudos MSI!
All in all...a really nice job, especially in the bios.  Hope the board does well.
    Paul

Joe,  yep, got the board!  I did have a eVGA 780i that was DOA and was in the process of RMAing it back to Newegg when the P7N hit their site..I just got the P7N and paid the extra $50 difference in price.  Well worth it.  The P7N just impresses me.  Tonight I had the board on the kitchen counter, bench testing it w/a stock Intel cooler on a e6750 and had it overclocked to 3600.  What impresses me is the bios improvements and stability.  The board will consistantly set whatever multiplier and FSB you set.  I ran tests with the 6, 7 and 8 multipliers and all ran like clockwork.  I could never do that with the P6N..only got the 6 multiplier to run once, by accident..lol.  I stopped at 1800 FSB because I was just checking the system temps, but I'm sure it will do 1900-2000 with no issues.  Ah, one thing..the circu-pipe on the northbridge will never do with watercooled cpus.  Even with the Intel cooler, the system temps hit 98-100 degrees with .50 volts on the CPU at 3600mhz.  And MSI does not supply a fan for the northbridge/circu-pipe.  I removed the stock pipe assy, good thing..found why the temps were a little high..during assy, a robot knocked the 8 pin header cover off, and it lodged under the Mosfet heat sink..haha.  Only three mosfets were making contact and only half the northbridge heatsink, due to the stress/bending caused by the plastic cover under the Mosfet cooler no doubt.  I'm going to be watercooling, so no problem.  A Enzo heatsink/fan combo fits the MCP (SB) perfectly and will fit the PCIe 2.0 chipset with some mods..working on that.  The Thermalright HR09 mosfet cooler fits the P7N perfectly after flipping the retaining pin legs over so they face right instead of left.  The Koolance GPU200 fits the Northbridge with no problem.  So, I should have the board in a case in a week or so and then I can do some more testing w/good cooling.   Totally impressed so far tho.  The Cell Menu has so many options I may have to go to night school to learn what they all do...lol.    Afterthough..the eVGA board was cheesy compared to the MSI board...the MSI pcb is nicer...all the caps are solid state (only the caps around the CPU on the eVGA are) and the layout of the board is better.  Well..that's all for now.''
