Aironet 350BR failed VxWorks to IOS conversion

I have tried to upgrade VxWorks to IOS and by mistake uploaded AP-Upgrade-Image. After restart it gives me the following:

Any chance to fix it?

When I copy to DRAM Vxworks image file and try to run it gives me error on decompressing image.
How can I manualy decompress .img file?

Has anyone noted a failure on the VxWorks to IOS Conversion that yeilds a results of no ability to log into the Access Point via Browser?
Telnet works, as well as direct Console connection.

  • Cisco AP350 Vxwork to IOS Conversion

    Hi,
I'm trying to convert my cisco 350 from VxWorks to IOS. In the middle of uploading I received an error. Unable to detect source AP: Check: 1. Network connectivity, 2. User's Capability and 3. Whether SNMP is enabled in the source AP. However I'm unable to connect back to the AP using the browser interface. I also tried using the IPSU tool to get the IP address from the MAC address and that return a message "Device does not answer." Is there any other way to connect to the AP and reconfigure it? Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Not sure what status screen you are referring to but if you follow the procedure below verbatim, you should be able to recover it.
    Recover from a Failure
The menu that displays after the boot process is the VxWorks bootloader, which is functionally equivalent to ROM monitor (ROMmon) in Cisco IOS Software. Neither of the full operating systems is loaded or available, so neither of the full command sets is available.
Note: If the VxWorks bootloader has been upgraded to Cisco IOS Software ROMmon but Flash memory has no operating system available, the unit displays the ap: prompt. In order to recover from this condition, refer to the Using the MODE button section in the Troubleshooting chapter of the Configuration Guide.
Use these steps to restart the conversion process and get the unit back up:
    1.
If there is an 802.11a radio module installed (AIR-RM20A), remove it during the rest of this procedure.
    2.
Verify that the connection settings in the terminal application are 9600-8-None-1 and NO flow control (not hardware or software).
    3.
Format the Flash memory for the unit to accept the VxWorks upgrade image:
    1.
Press Ctrl-Z in order to bring up the hidden Format menu.
    2.
Press exclamation point (!, Shift-1) in order to choose Format.
    3.
Press 3 in order to choose Flash memory.
Note: 3 is usually the choice for Flash memory. But you may have to enter a different number, which depends on your setup.
    4.
Press Y (Shift-y) in order to confirm the decision to reformat the Flash memory.
The reformat takes a few moments, after which the bootloader menu appears again.
    4.
Transfer the upgrade image onto the AP.
Complete these steps in order to start the transfer of the upgrade image:
    1.
Press l (lowercase L) in order to put the AP into receive mode.
The file transfer protocol appears, and characters scroll across the line as the unit waits for data to flow to it.
    2.
In Microsoft Windows HyperTerminal, choose Transfer > Send.
    3.
Choose an appropriate file transfer protocol.
    4.
Browse to the location of the AP1200-Cisco-IOS-Upgrade-Image-v3.img file on the hard drive.
    5.
Select the AP1200-Cisco-IOS-Upgrade-Image-v3.img file and click Send.
When the file transfer is complete, the bootloader menu appears again. A file list also appears, which shows that the files that are compressed inside of the AP1200-Cisco-IOS-Upgrade-Image-v3.img file are now located in DRAM in the AP.
    5.
Transfer the files to Flash with the copy process.
Note: The files must be in Flash memory.
    Complete these steps:
    1.
Press c in order to copy.
    2.
Press 3 in order to choose the Flash memory as the destination.
    3.
Choose the appropriate option for each of the files that are listed in DRAM.
    4.
Repeat Steps 5a through 5c (the c ... 3 ... file option cycle) for each of the files that are in DRAM.
Each time that you repeat the cycle, the bootloader menu and file list appear and show the progress of file copies from DRAM into Flash memory.
    6.
    Power cycle the AP.
The upgrade proceeds as expected. During a successful upgrade, you see output that is similar to this:
    flashfs[0]: Checking block 25...bad block number (-1)
    flashfs[0]: erasing block 25...done.
    flashfs[0]: Checking block 26...bad block number (-1)
    flashfs[0]: erasing block 26...done.
    flashfs[0]: Checking block 27...bad block number (-1)
    flashfs[0]: erasing block 27...done.
    7.
After the upgrade finishes successfully, reinstall the RM20A as needed.

  • IOS conversion from VxWorks 12.03

I have heard a rumor that you can not update to IOS from VxWorks 12.03. YOu have to go back down to 12.02 and then upgrade from there......Does this rumor have any merit?
    Thanks

There is merit to the rumor. Cisco does not recommend performing an IOS conversion on a 12.03T VxWorks AP because of a problem with the flash overwrite. It's possible that the conversion may be successful, but there is a chance of it resulting in a non-recoverable situation.

  • Cannot upgrade 1200AP from VxWorks to IOS

I am having problems upgrading two 1200 APs from Cisco 1200 Series AP 12.03T VxWorks to IOS using the CAC Tool. Originally all eight of my units were at Cisco 1200 Series AP 12.02T and I successfully upgraded six of them to IOS, but these two have been giving me problems. I thought I would upgrade the VxWorks to 12.03T and try again, and the VxWorks upgrade went fine through the AP web interface. The CAC tool upload of the IOS upgrade image, however, fails everytime, and if I telnet to the APs when I am doing the upgrade I get a message saying the TFTP started, but in a few seconds it times out. The APs do have over 5.5 MB of free RAM, so that is not a problem.
Should I try to FTP the image to the AP, and if so, how ? I am not concerned about saving any settings on the AP as I can restore them from my AP management software.
    Thakns for any ideas,
    Shivaji

In order to run the upgrade process, the AP must have at least 4 MB of DRAM available. Issue the :vxdiag_memshow VxWorks command, at the prompt of a console or of a Telnet session, in order to display the amount of free DRAM.
In order to increase free DRAM, you must terminate noncritical processes or temporarily disable other resources (like a second radio). Try some or all of these actions in order to increase free DRAM:

    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
Are you releasing the home button when you see the connect to iTunes screen? Does iTunes start on its own? If it doesn't - start iTunes yourself.

I've tried direct update from my iPad and via iTunes on my MBP 2011 and get the same error on both.
I don't think its my intermet connection as I've downloaded Yosemite since i started getting the errors with no problem.
There is over 7GB free space on the iPad so it's not a space issue.
    Any ideas?

  • IPhone 4 Failed Updated to iOS 6, now stuck in Recovery Mode

I plugged in my iPhone 4 to update it to iOS 6.  After the update was completed, it restarted and now shows only the iTunes Connect screen.  Plugging the phone in now, iTunes says that the phone must be restored.  It fails to restore every time.  I've tried like 1000x.
Help would be appreciated.  And please, assume I know nothing and have tried nothing.  I'm pretty desperate to get my phone restored, even if for only long enough to get some of my information saved from my device.
    Thanks.

Disconnect it from the computer's USB cord. Press and hold the home button while plugging it into the computer's USB cord. Continue holding the Home button while iPhone starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Then you can restore your phone:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

  • My IPAD2 failed to download ios 8 via wifi and itunes

I tried to download IOS 8 via wifi and I got an error message that the download failed.  I tried to download via ITunes and got the error message network failure. I did this numerous times both ways.  My Iphone 5S downloaded fine via wifi.

I have similar problem on an iPad. I have FIOS with 83 meg download speeds. According to apple my download will take 32 hours. They are having a problem and are not addressing it. This is the third day I have been getting this problem. How do we get apple to tell us what is going on. I am willing to cooperate but need to know what to do.

Is your iPad currently running an iOS lower than iOS 5? Did you get an error message with a #?
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • Failed to update iOS 6.1

I'm downloading iOS 6.1 on my iPod Touch, 5th Generation from 6.0.1. I downloaded it, and it said "must be 50% battery to install" I plugged it in, tapped install now, and a couple seconds later, it popped up saying "Verification of the iOS 6.1 update failed because you are no longer connected to the Internet" The odd thing? I am connected to the internet and I have a perfect connection. Do we have any solutions?

Same problem with my Ipod Touch 5th generation. I get error 3194 on my PC and on Wi-Fi it says that I don't have connection to Wi-Fi- Pleaase fix this fast, Apple. I recorded it and made a video:

  • IPad fails to complete IOS 4.3 update

My iPad failed to complete the IOS 4.3 update. The message in iTunes said the iPad needs to be restored, but the restore fails to complete. I tried a different cable and USB port on my iMac. I charged my iPad for a few hours and tried it again. My iTunes is version 10.2.1. This is a iPad 1 (Wifi version).
iTunes runs through the restore process until it says "restoring iPad software" and almost completes the install. The restore completes until about 90% or so of the way and just hangs up.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem and called Apple. Here's what we did: I held down both the Home button and the Sleep button at the same time until the iPad rebooted. Then the iPad screen changed to the iTunes icon and a USB cord. When I opened iTunes, I could now see the iPad (previously it hadn't shown up) and got an error message. The Apple tech said I would need to restore the factory settings. I did and it took a while since my iPad is loaded with aps and music, but it all came back since it was backed up on my Mac.
Good luck! They are hearing from a lot of people with this (but I'm the only one I know with an iPad who had the issue) and didn't charge me--I don't have the extended care plan.

  • ITune fails to "download" iOS 5....

    Hi,
I've been trying to upgrade my iPhone 4 with iOS 5.
I use iTunes 10.5.0.142 on Windows Seven, French version, in Paris.
I tried about 6 times and it fails the same way whatever happen
(I disabled the firewall, then the anti-virus, I also tried to "keep the connection" by going regularly on the iTunes Store, etc...).
Simply put, when the download reaches about 380 MB out of 700 MB, I have a message like '...problem, the network connection expired...'.
    The newtork is just fine!
I have an effective bandwidth of about 11 MBits/s and I am able to download large files.
So, my guess is that iTunes must have some sort of problem when "dealing with the file".
==> How to upgrade iOS 5 when iTunes fails ? and I don't want to lose my data... :-)
    Thanks for any help

First... Check that your Device is a 3rd Gen...
    Identify iPod Models... http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1353
If it is... See Here  >  Updating to iOS 5  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
If it is a 2nd Gen... then you are at the end of the road for updates...
