Airport Express bridge mode over WPA2 Enterprise?

I have an Airport Extreme running WPA2 Enterprise with RADIUS on a Snow Leopard Server. Is it possible to have the Express join the WPA2 Enterprise network as an ethernet bridge? I can't seem to set it up. Something tells me this only works with WPA2 Personal?

When you set up the APExtreme through Server Admin, it takes care of all the secret passwords and what-have-you. I did some digging on Apple's site, and it looks like the APExpress can only act as a bridge on WPA2 Personal networks and below. No worries; I am just temporarily running an engineer's SIP phone over wireless, so I brought an old Buffalo router I had kicking around at home into the office; set it up as a WPA2 Personal access point, and have him running off of that with the APExpress as the bridge. This is just a stopgap until I can get him a proper ethernet drop. Thanks for the help regardless.

Airport Express Bridge Mode Cutting Out?

I recently wasn't able to bring internet to my bedroom, so I bought an Airport Express. I didn't want to have to buy a modem, so I threw it in another room where I could get internet with my Airport Extreme. Then, I put bridge mode on my Express so that it would spread the signal. When I plugged it in, I got internet in my room at the normal speeds I get (I have very slow internet normally, about 300 kb/s. I thought, great. Then, about half an hour later, my speeds dropped out to about 50 kb/s. I'm using a MacBook Air 2010, and it happens on all the other computers in my house. It's really weird. If it's any help, I'm on AT&T U-Verse (ick).

If I buy an Airport Express, will it connect to a WPA2 Enterprise network and either:
-- repeat that network via wireless, extending the range
-- connect to the network and share the connection via ethernet
If not, might an airport extreme do this?

Not sure how definitive an answer that you need.
Apple's specification page on the AirPort Express(n) states that the device will only support WPA-Personal when joining an existing network. (I read "existing" as a non-Apple created network), so WPA Enterprise would not be supported.
We know for a fact that the Airport Express(n) will only "extend a wireless network"...IF...the network has been created by another Apple(n) router as Duane has stated.

Mein Problem ist, daß nach Neustart des Windows 8 Rechners der AE nicht mehr erkannt wird, auch das Airport Dienstprogramm findet ihn nicht. Man muss dann den AE resetten per Stromstecker rausziehen und wieder rein. Will ich aber nicht länger hinnehmen. Weiss hier jemand Rat?

2 Airport Express - Bridge Mode problems

Hi,
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but I've been searching and can't find a solution to the problem.
I have:
MacBook Air running Mavericks and Airport Utility
Old Airport Express set up to create a wireless network
New Airport Express set up as bridged
Our apartment is hardwired with LAN ports in the walls, so there is no need for a modem and there are no router conflicts etc. I'm aware of.
Everything is fine with the Old AE as it's been for years. When I connect the second AE which I want to set up in another room to extend the existing network it goes through all of the steps in the wizard OK but as soon as the second/bedroom AE completes setup and the light goes green the first AE in the living room drops out with orange flashing light and a "Conflicting DHCP Range" error. I barely know what this is, let alone how to resolve it. Whenever I find a community discussion I can find people talking about the same issue but no clear idea of how to resolve.
Any help would be massively appreciated.

Yeah fair comment, pretty remiss of me.
There was actually nothing wrong, but I was connecting the second AE to a LAN port with a cable as well. I mistook the drawings on the apple site for cable connections and assumed they all required it.
Just removed the Ethernet cable, ran set up again and was good to go.

Only exception was that it went into bridge mode and I cannot configure an IP camera that was working prior.
Bridge Mode is the correct setting for the AirPort Express since your "upgraded" Xfinity device is a modem/router or gateway device.
So, you already have a router set up on the network. Bridge mode must be used on the AirPort Express to avoid having two devices both trying to act as routers on the network.
That would create IP address conflicts and other problems like Double NAT.
Since the Xfinity device is now your network router, you must configure the port settings for your camera on the Xfinity modem/router. The AirPort Express will simply pass through those settings since it is in Bridge Mode.
You may need to check with Xfinity support on how to set up port forwarding if the owners guide does not cover that topic.

I use Air Video server, which allows me to stream movies from my Mac to my iPhone or iPad. It sits on port 45631 and that's closed.
I recently moved from NYC to CO, and because of my cable modem not being compatible with my older Airport router, I must use my Mac Pro to forward my Internet service from one Ethernet port to another - so that my older Airport Extreme can then broadcast wirelessly.
Since I use the AirPort in bridge mode, and the Mac is forwarding the connection - how do I forward the port so Air Video can send through to the internet?

Airport Express no longer works in "Enterprise Arrangement" Long

This is going to be somewhat long, so bear with me as I will try to be as detailed and complete as possible. I just was hung up on by Apple Technical Support after Michael waited until 6:01pm PDT so I could not call back, so any help would be appreciated.
I have three airport express base-stations that are arranged as follows:
1. Living Room - connects to my cable modem and iTunes to send music to the stereo.
2. Kitchen - extends the airport signal so that it covers the back yard and is connected to a USB printer.
3. Den - extends the airport signal to cover the bedrooms and is connected to iTunes for the den stereo.
The three units are connected via WDS in a very simple setup that took about five minutes to complete via Setup Assistant and some minor alterations in Airport Utility. The entire system functioned perfectly for over eight months until today when the Kitchen unit was no longer communicating to the printer and could not be accessed using Airport Utility. It would only "flash amber" after attempting numerous resets and even factory default resets. So, what to do -- thinking that the Airport unit had given up the ghost (I had one fail some time ago), I called apple support under my AppleCare plan.
The first representative (Chris) was very helpful and worked with me to try to reset the unit. When he could make no progress, I was passed along to a "product specialist," Michael, who tried very dilligently to explain from the beginning that my arrangement was far too complicated for basic support and that I had to buy an enterprise service contract in order to solve my problem. We spoke briefly and I assured him that I would accept whatever help that he could provide, as I felt that the particular base station had some malfunction.
We spent the better part of ninety minutes resetting the problematic (Kitchen)base-station to no avail. Finally he offered the following solution: "if all you want is to use it as a print server, we can set it up on it's own network." I said that that was not what I wanted, but thought we could try it as a possible workaround solution. After a few minutes of tinkering he had me set up a new network that only served as a print server. No longer did I get the range-expansion of my previous arrangement, and I have to switch the entire network from the airport menu in order to print. I can no longer print and surf the net or print and listen to music. He felt that this was an acceptable solution and tried to tell me that he and I "agreed to disagree" about this being a solution.
I explained to Michael that this was very "un-apple-like" in it's application and that there had to be something wrong with the base-station as it continues to "flash amber" rather than going to solid green. He reiterated his "agree to disagree" statement and said that my setup was too complicated for basic support. I offered to turn off the Den base-station to bring about an "acceptable level of support complexity." To this, Michael became very testy and proceeded to spend a minute or so explaining why I could not be helped and then hung up on me.
After being disconnected at 6:01pm PDT I then unplugged the Den base-station and simplified the system to what apple will support and still the problem persists: the Kitchen base-station will not join an existing network and run the USB printer at the same time. It can do one or the other, but when setup to do both, it consistently "flashes amber" and is inaccessible to Airport Utility - attempts to connect to the Kitchen base station through Airport Utility are met with the Spinning Beach Ball of Death and eventually with an error message : Airport Utility is unable to recognize the network.
I would appreciate any help or suggestions, but I'm afraid that I have an Airport Express paperweight.
I'll try again with Apple in the morning, also, but would like to solve this tonight if possible.

I called AppleCare this morning and Sean helped me out in a huge way. In all of my attempts, I had not done a factory-default reset on the main base station and apparently some sort of endless loop had occurred between those two stations. Sean was very helpful and patient with me, but now the system is working as promised. Moral of this story is if a factory default rest doesn't help on the "problem" base station, try resetting all of the units.

Airport in bridge mode not working in Windows7

Hi everyone,
Last night as I was browsing the web on my iPad the internet stopped working...I am using an Airport Express router plugged directly into the wall socket of my apartment which was configured by the ISP.
I have been using this config for the past 7 months with no issues but last night it just stopped working and the yellow indicator started flashing.
I went into Airport utility and it tells me the Double NAT problem has been found (maybe the ISP changed something?)...and they suggest to change the Airport configuration to Bridge Mode ... said and done...now the Internet works fine under OSX and on my iPad but it does not work anymore in Windows 7.
Some of my family uses Windows 7 for some very specific apps and now it's just dead, internet does not work anymore.
Also, in OSX / iOS I didn't make any changes, I just changed the Airport configuration to Bridge mode and it worked right off the bat.
Has anybody else confronted such problems before ? If so, what would be the best way to fix this ?

Airport in Bridge mode "not a supported format." Are you F'n kidding me?

Forgive me if I'm freakin' a bit but I am at my wits end with Apple. Here's the breakdown.
Fiber DSL into a standard wired 4 port D-Link router. Router is connected to HP 24 port switch because the D-Link does not have enough ports for my house. Switch feeds cat5 to all rooms in the house. Airport Extreme (newest version) is in living room and set to Bridge mode. I use it to connect multiple items in my entertainment area and wireless access for the Macbooks and iPhones.
Up to a few weeks ago I was connecting my iMac via wireless but got sick of the connection dropping (pings would be unresponsive for minutes on end). I ended up moving my desk and plugging into a cat5 port on the wall. Well guess what... it's still dropping. OK, I removed everything from the network and started adding things one at a time over the past few days. Everything was running better than ever until I plugged the Airport back into the network. Mind you, I'm not running my iMac into the Airport, it is simply on the same network.
After shaking my head for a while I called Apple. Well I just got off the phone w/ Tier 3 tech support for the Airport Extremes. I tell them that I have no idea why, but I'm only dropping connections when the Airport is on the network and I'm just curious if there is something in the settings that I'm missing. This is where it gets good... The brilliant Tier 3 "Technician" tells me that I am running an unsupported configuration because the Airport is running in bridge mode and it's attached to a wired router across the house. He says that if the D-Link router was also wireless he could help me. I asked what the difference was if it was wired or wireless but all he could say was he couldn't help me because it was a unsupported configuration.
So - I'm ready to send all my CrApple gear to some poor kids on the other side of the world. Anyone have any ideas here?

Not at all. What I was trying to say was that the connection from the Extreme to the internet must go through the WAN port, not a LAN port. In a large network, this can happen unintentionally. For instance, suppose a client has Internet sharing enabled and is connected wirelessly to the Extreme and by Ethernet to another router. Then the internet connection from the other router would be shared with the entire subnet, including the Extreme through its LAN port. This could cause problems with the network.
However, with the network setup Jerastan describes, this does not seem to be the cause.

Can Airport Express bridge off another Airport Express?

Currently I have the current setup and working great for the most part.
Aiport Extreme (Base) - Connected directly to my ISP Modem upstairs.
Airport Express 1 (Bridge Mode) - Bridged to the Airport Extreme Base and placed midway hall upstairs
Airport Express 2 (Bridge Mode) - Bridged to the Airport Extreme Base and placed downstairs
Currently when I am out on my deck, I will receive 1 bar or no signal.. The signal that I do recieve is coming from one of the airport express..
My question is, If I place a third additional Airport Express outside on my deck/patio will this daisy chain off the current AirPort Express that is already bridged to the Airport Extreme Base, or will it ONLY be able to bridge from the AirPort Extreme Base and not daisy chain from the AirPort Express? In other words, if I do not receive signal from the AirPort Extreme base on my deck/patio will this be of no use to extend the range?

Sorry, but no. Although the third AirPort will connect to the AirPort Express, it will "join"....not extend...the network. When an AirPort "joins" a network, it provides no additional wireless signal coverage.

Correct, if you want the additional AirPort Express to "extend" the network. An "extending" device must connect directly to the main base station.....not to another device that is already extending the wireless signal. The reason for this is that Apple's "extend" feature only allows a signal to be extended wirelessly one time....not two.

Correct. But, if you located the additional Express somewhat closer to the AirPort Extreme, it might pick up enough of the signal to be able to extend it. Remember, an extending device can only extend the quality of signal that it receives.
However, if you could run an Ethernet cable from the port on the current "extending" Express to the other Express that you want to add, you could configure the additional Express to 'create a wireless network" and effectively extend the network that way.

Airport Express Bridge

Please forgive me if this has already been covered. I did a search and tried some of the ideas but haven't had any luck. Here is my problem.
I have a 2Wire wireless modem. My G5 Mac can access it in wireless or ethernet mode. I have a PC in another room of the house that has a standard non wireless ethernet card. I currently have an Airport Express that is not being used. I would like to use the AE to act as a bridge to the 2Wire modem so that the PC can get access to the internet via the AE's ethernet port. Can this be done. I've tried with not luck so far.

The answer is no for virtually all third party wireless routers.
- a Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not latest versions v5)
- a Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
- one specific model from SMC (can't find model number right now)
- one specific model from Buffalo
- BT Voyager 2100
For wireless routers not on this short list - not possible.
In particular, it will not work with any WiFi routers from D-Link or Netgear.

Roaming with Airport Express (bridging) between two Airport Extreme AP's

I have two Airport Extreme base stations set up on a company LAN that provide wireless coverage for our very large facility. Both are set up with the same SSID and WPA settings and they are 5 channels apart, 1 and 6. We have a cart with a computer and it uses an Airport Express / WDS to allow wired Ethernet bridging to our LAN via the wireless. I can't seem to get the Airport Express to "roam" between the two access points, ie, when one AP's signal gets too weak I would expect that the Airport Express would switch to the stronger of the two AP's. Is this a correct assumption?
In the AirPort utility when you set an Airport Express as a remote it only allows you to specify one "main" AP, so I don't know if this is why I can't seem to get it to roam between both AP's. Anyone have any experience / success doing this? Thanks for any information you can provide.

if possible, it sounds like you need to configure a "roaming" network, not a WDS. Of course, I am assuming that all your base stations have access to your LAN via ethernet...
- Configure each base station with the same network name and authentication/password.
- Put each base station in bridge mode (unless you need 1 of them to distribute ip addresses).
- Each base station needs to be on a different channel - and make sure they spread apart, like 3 and 11, as opposed to 3 and 4.
Basically make sure they are configured exactly the same except for the wireless channel.
Roaming should improve.

How do I set up multiple Airport Expresses to connect over ethernet for Airtunes only?

I am trying to set up an Airtunes network using an Airport Extreme and three Airport Expresses connected together via ethernet (CAT5 cable). At each Airport Express there will be a speaker setup. I don't need/want internet connectivity on the network, but not sure if it is required for setup or not. I have made this work over wifi, using the Expresses to extend the network, but struggling to get this to work over ethernet.
I would be verry grateful of a step-by-step method to setting this up! I am also looking to set up 6 airport expresses to do the same thing in another location.

I assume that the AirPort Extreme is setup and working at this point.
Work with one AirPort Express at a time to get them all configured, and then you can locate them where they will be needed.
AirPort Setup will configure the Express devices to "extend a wireless network" using Ethernet, so they will be broadcasting the same wireless signal as the AirPort Extreme and provide more wireless signal coverage as well.
I have yet to meet the first person who thought that they had too much wireless coverage, but you would have the option to turn off the wireless on the Express if you wanted. Most users like having extended wireless for their devices.
Temporarily, move an Express close to the AirPort Extreme
Connect a spare Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the Extreme to the WAN "O" port on the Express
Power up the Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the back of the Express for 10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Click the Airport icon at the top of the Mac's screen and wait a few seconds for AirPort Express to appear just under the listing of New AirPort Base Station
Click directly on the AirPort Express
AirPort Setup will open up automatically and take a minute to analyze the network, then announce that the Express will be configured to extend the AirPort Extreme network.
Enter a device name that you want to use....example.....Express1.....and click Next
AirPort Setup will configure everything for you. Notice that the message will say that the Express is being set up to extend using Ethernet. When you see the message of setup complete, click Done.
Now you can move the Express to the remote location where it is needed, hook it up to the Ethernet connection there, power up the Express and set up AirTunes on the device.
AirTunes is enabled by default, to other than make the speaker connection, you won't have much to do on that.
Set up other Express devices the same way, except assign a different name to each device....example....Express2, Express3, etc.....to keep things organized.
