Airport Extreme 7.6.3 Rebooting my LG TV

I upgraded my Airport last night to 7.6.3. and now my LG TV (55LM6700) reboots every 15 seconds. Crazy I know.
So I have my TV connected through ethernet directly connected to my Airport. Before I updated to 7.6.3 everything was working fine. After updating and turning on my TV, the TV starts rebooting non stop every 15 seconds. After going crazy trying to figure out the problem, I have narrowed it down to my airport. If I plug in directly bypassing the airport the TV does not reboot and internet ont he TV works fine. Once I put the Airport in the equation the TV starts rebooting.
Should I downgrade? Anyone else having the issue? I am thinking of just getting rid of the airport and replacing it with the Almond+.

Hi,
I also downgraded all my airport devices to 7.6.1 yesterday. Today the repair service brought my TV back, together with another exactly the same new TV for testing purpose.
Both TV's do reboot from the moment they got an IP address from the airport station. This is indeed very strange as I also got the reboot problem after the upgrade to firmware 7.6.3. Before it has been working perfectly for more than 6 months.
For LG the case is closed as they could proof that the problem is not on the TV (I hope I don't have to pay all those efforts from the repair service), and they have never seen such a behaviour. I must be the first in Belgium with an LG television and a Airport Extreme base station having firmware 7.6.3.
I'm also not so sure what I will do now. I could buy a new router (not from apple) which will certainly solve the problem ... But I have 4 Apple routers at my home (Apple Airport Extreme (base station), Apple Time Capsule (network extender with LG attached), and 2 airport Express). It worked very well ... until now.

  • My Airport Extreme always needs a reboot for it to see an external drive plugged into it. Is this normal?

The title pretty much sums it up. Every few days I have to reboot my AE in order for it to recognize the external drive (iOmega Prestige 500gb) I have plugged into it. Needless to say, it's pretty frustrating. I was hoping to setup the external drive so all of my computers could use it as a central device, but needing to reboot all the time kind of kills the convenience. Wondering if I'm doing something wrong?

Relax. It's normal for an iOS device to turn on when it is plugged in and charging. You didn't hurt anything. As long as it has a charge, you can use it and it should come with a sufficient charge to use it right out of the box.
Your phone will be fine. Charge it when you need to charge it. You didn't damage anything.

  • Restart airport extreme

I'm having to constantly restart my airport extreme, I work from home and this ends up being a 5 minute process several times a day.  I have airport extreme using version 7.6.4.

Here is the question I sent to LaCie tech support:
I am having a problem. The 500GB Mini Hub disappears from the network after a period of time. If I unplug it and attach it to my iMac it will not mount. Disk Utility can not see it. TechTool Pro can mount it. I have since discovered that if I uplug the drive power and the Airport Extreme and let it reboot the drive will be recognized. Some people are having the same problem with other drives so this is not likely to be just a LaCie problem. I have a few questions if I may. Does this drive go to sleep i.e. spin down? If it does can I stop it from doing so? It appears to me that it is not getting a wake up signal or something similar? Is that possible? Has anyone else reported this problem as yet?
Here is the Reply from LaCie on this question:
While we do not support this drive with your set up, this should work fine on an Airport Extreme base station. You may want to reformat it on an OSX computer. FAT32 and HFS+ file systems are supported. The Base Station may need a restart with the USB device to recognize it.
The drive will spin itself down after a certain length of inactivity. This time period is different for different drive mechanism manufacturers and is not adjustable.
APPLE are you listening?? Looks like we may need to get a software fix in the Airport Extreme to power up the drive when it is needed? Any other thoughts out there?
    BTW what is SMB?

  • Airport Extreme external hdd causes router to reboot

When I try to access my external WD hard drive (formatted to FAT32) on my AirPort Extreme, it freezes and causes the router to reboot. How do I fix this?
I am accessing the hdd from windows 7 pc.

Try adding a powered USB hub....even if the WD drive has its own power supply.
Reason...the USB port is borderline as far as its ability to supply sufficient power for a hard drive even when the Extreme is new and even when the drive has its own power supply.
If the Extreme is a few years old, it is not delivering as much power to the USB port as it once did, and it needs some help.
Worst case, the internal power supply on the Extreme is starting to head South. That is usually not an issue until the device is 4-5 years old.

  • My airport extreme is flashing amber it says i need a ip address .... it was working just fine yesterday until i had to reboot cable modem how do i get my extreme to work again so i can have wireless

my airport extreme is flashing amber it says i need a ip address .... it was working just fine yesterday until i had to reboot cable modem how do i get my extreme to work again so i can have wireless..... please help!!!

    Hi again Jen,
Most internet providers utilize "dhcp" -- you might want to check to see if your extreme is set to that function.
If you want to try, you need to go into airport utility and select MANUAL setup/ then click NETWORK button on top of the window. /select TCP/IP -- make sure that you see "Using DHCP" not MANUAL in the configuration window.  If you do see using  dhcp, click the renew dhcp lease button.  Then you'd have to do the power down/up cycle again.  If all this doesn't work, you can do a hard reset on your Extreme, which will bring it back to the way it came out of the box, then go through the same proccess that was used to set it up originally.

  • Reboot AirPort Extreme Remotely Off Network?

Is there a way I can access my Airport Extreme remotely to reboot it? I mean totally off my home network like with my iPhone or something? I know the IP of my Airport Extreme but cannot figure out a way to connect to it remotely when not on the same network. I just want to be able to reboot it.
    Thanks...

Yes this is possible, if Back to My Mac is enabled in AirPort Utility, using your Apple ID:
Select your Extreme with the button "Other AirPort Base Stations" then Base Station > Restart...

  • Have to reboot my airport extreme every time i restart my PC.

    Hello,
Why is it that i have to reboot my Airport Extreme every time i restart my PC? I am able to connect to the network but not the internet, unless/until i restart my base station.
My phones and tablets are connected to the internet, so i know the my ISP is not the issue.

It is impossible to work this out without lots of details.
Like what PC OS do you run?
    What connection, wireless or ethernet?
What you use test with the other if possible. Does it work for example swapping from wireless to ethernet??
I presume wireless as it is the most trouble prone.. When you start the PC does the wireless connect? Do you get IP by DHCP .. if so does it match what you get after a reboot.. look particularly at dns and gateway addresses.
Is the PC showing location as home or work/public.. it must be home to work properly.. also firewall might matter.
Also what type of wireless card is used.. poor windows drivers abound.. particularly Intel cards in laptops.
Is the wireless name SMB compliant.. ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric?
Is the wireless password mix of only case and numbers.. nothing non-alphanumeric?

  • Airport Extreme removes port forward settings every reboot

I have set up various port forward settings on my Airport Extreme from OS X Server. However, every time I reboot the Airport, all port forward settings are lost except Contacts, Calendars, and DNS. It gets very troublesome to constantly readd all my settings in there. Port forwards are the only settings that are lost.
    Please help!

I found the issue – and it's fairly simple and obviously really.  I'm guessing you were adding the ports from OS X Server in the order they are listed within Server.app (where they are listed in alphabetical order).  After Calendar, Contacts and DNS is "File Sharing".
If this is enabled, whilst File Sharing is enabled on the AirPort Extreme, the port forwarding entry for File Sharing, and anything below is removed.
Simply disable "File Sharing" from AirPort Utility before continuing (as recommended by Server.app when setting up the service for File Sharing).
I understand you replaced your AE and no longer have the issue – I thought I'd leave the explanation should others encounter it.

  • Airport Extreme Needs Daily Reboot to re-enable Wifi

    All,
I bought an Airport Extreme in Nov 2014, firmware 7.7.3 in Bridge mode acting as an AP, my network consists of a 24port gig dell switch a Sonicwall TZ-210W (wireless off) and a windows 2008R2 file server also used for DHCP, DNS etc.
I have issues where my airport will stop letting certain devices on the network via wifi.  I will get on my phone and it will be connected (iphone 6), get on the wifes macbook air, it will be working (sometimes), have my laptop from work that was connected fine 12hrs ago not get connected, my ipad (3rd gen) will not connect to the network, but my imac that is hardwired (connected directly to the airport (using as a switch for my imac) ) will connect just fine, but i can reboot any of the devices it seems like the ones that had a connection continue working but new ones will not or even if they were new in the past 12 hrs...  All i have to do to get all of them online is to restart the base station (airport)  I typically do that from my mac using the airport utility once it comes back up all of the devices previously working or not reconnect automatically and start working fine.
    What I have tried...
    1. Reset to defaults and re-setup  Still fails
    2. tried setting the channels static after using the wifi utility in my imac to see what channels would work best. still fails
    3. i have tried moving it to different locations in my house  - no luck still fails
    4. i would try different firmware, but haven't seen any others avail.
    5. searched forums saw posts of people a couple years ago with the previous version had similar issues and it was firmware related - No Luck
    6. thought about sending home with a co-worker let them run it for a while, but number of devices etc. could be a cause.  I probably have 40ish devices max on my network wired/wireless.
Do I have a lemmon?  Can anyone give me other options?  or do I need to have this replaced..

So just an update to anyone with similar issues.  After posting my initial issue here and seeing John's reply I contacted Apple, and here is what they had me do and I have not had to restart my AirPort in a week now.
So I called them explained what I had going on at first the tech was a bit puzzled at why I would be having these odd symptoms, but we walked through each page in the Airport Utility on from my iMac and the only setting that he thought looked a little odd was that I had WPA/WPA2 Personal enabled as my wireless preference.  He asked why I responded and told him because I had some family members that had older devices that were not compatible with WPA2 so I enabled rev 1 as well.  So seeing that this was the only setting that looked odd he had me do a full factory reset,  now I thought I had done this via software, but it turns out there are a couple different ways and the software way doesn't do it completely.
    Doing a Factory Reset.
    1. Unplug and disable wireless on any Mac that had used the airport utility to connect to the airport.  (we did this because we wanted to make sure nothing pushed old settings into the airport.)
    2. unplug power from the device. ( i found it was much easier todo this at the wall as you will need two hands in the next step.)
    3. Find a paperclip or a tack that you can push the little button on the back of the airport in.
    4. Push the tack or paperclip into the reset hole in the back of the device.  (right next to the power connector,  it was easier to jack into the wall than plug power at the airport while holding the reset button next to the power connector.)
    5.  Continue to hold the button until the unit boots and starts flashing orange, let it flash orange for 5-10sec then let go, it should continue to flash orange for a bit then go solid.
    6. Once the light stops blinking you should be able to see this in an iOS device, he recommended doing the setup via an iPad or iPhone as it is a very streamlined and simple setup.
    7. I then set my password and my wireless name etc. let it do the security on its own and that was that.
Like I said after doing that I have had no issues.  Seems a bit strange to me that it would be the WPA option as if the option is there in my mind it should work fine or it should be removed.  Anyway if this helps you out please post it, kinda wonder how many others have a similar issue...

  • Apple please allow us to forward ports without rebooting airport extreme

    Dear Apple,
today i managed to finally get 7.6 firmware running correctly...
it seems that latest firmware breaks the dhcp relay between wireless and wired lan segments when running in bridge mode....
as a workaround of this issue i changed my dsl router to bridge mode and now i have airport extreme getting the public ip on it and i need to manage NAT ports on airport and not on dsl router as before...
why all modern dsl routers allow to dinamically add/edit/delete nat port forwarding without dropping connectivity and rebooting the router and airport extreme being a more expensive and more powerful unit does require resetting it for the slighest changes?
i understand some service changes might require reboots... but simple things like changing a password, or adding a dhcp lease reservation or opening/closing ports should be able to be done on the run ....
    please apple... makes us happy....

  • Airport Express won't reconnect after Airport Extreme is rebooted

So my problem is this.  The whole system is made up of 2 "old" Airport Expresses, 1 brand new Airport Express and an older Airport Extreme.  I have the two older Airports set up to "join" the network and have one hooked up to my printer and one to my pool computer.  I then setup the new Express to "extend" the network to cover more of the house.  This all works great when I first set it up.  The problem comes when I have to reboot the Extreme.  When I do this, the new express will not reconnect to the network but just flashes amber until I unplug and replug it.  The old ones reconnect and go back to green with no intervention at all.  I tried setting up the new express as both "join" and "extend" and in both cases it will not reconnect to the Extreme unless I power cycle it.  Why am I having this issue with the new one, and the old ones work just fine.  Is there a setting I need to adjust on the new one or on the Extreme or ...
NO security, just a hidden SSID.
    Thanks

Redo the setup of the express.. I am not quite sure I am following the problem but you are better setting a new wireless name rather than use the default. Did you also set security on to WPA2 Personal with a decent password?
If the MBP that has issues was recently updated to 10.8.5 it might need an SMC reset.. also check if your model laptop has a SMC upgrade as there are some wireless issues around.

Since updating to ISO ate my iPod touch fifth-generation keeps dropping me from Wi-Fi I have an older AirPort Extreme that looks like a white spaceship does anybody have any solutions I have an iPad first-generation and my girlfriend has an iPod touch fifth-generation that she hasn't updated yet and there is no problem with those two units

I would either say that the iOS is correpted due to a software glitch or y have have a hardware problem like bad memory locations that are corrupting the iOS.
    - Restore from backup via iTunes. This will install a fresh copy of the iOS. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.   This will elimate corruptin in the backup causing the problem.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Time machine error 21 only cured by rebooting Airport Extreme

I have a macbook pro 13" (2009 vintage), and an airport extreme.  Despite the fact that Apple says that it doesn't officially support Time machine backups to AE connected disks, I've been doing this since early 2010 (when I bought the AE).  Starting about 6 months later after one of the updates to the firmware, every few days Time Machine would fail saying that another application already had the backup files.  Nothing I did on the macbook cured this, but I discovered that doing a power cycle of the AE would cure it for a few days.  This was annoying, but I was able to live with that.  However, with the update to 7.5 firmware this started happening every few hours.  I talked to Apple Care support and they suggested that I have the hardware of the AE checked out at an apple store.  I did that, and they said that the old one was defective, and gave me a brand new AE (last week).  RIght after that, it wanted to install 7.6.  Well since then, I can do one backup on the disk.  After that, when I try to do another backup I get the dreaded "error 21".  However, if I power cycle the AE, things then work again.  This tells me that there's a software bug on AE, which, I suspect was introduced in version 7, and has only gotten worse.  Even if I don't try to do TM backups, after a few days I can't connect to the disks at all until I power cycle the AE.  Anyone else have a problem like this?  I wish that I could get Apple to consider that this is really a problem.  If I could disassemble the firmware, I could look for the problem myself.

I cannot tell you why your Apple Genius told you what he did, but he/she was dead wrong. Apple sells its Time Capsule product, so they are not interested in making the AEBS a product competitor.
I will give you a little secret for which you will forever be indebted to me.
Open your Terminal application in the Utilities folder and at the prompt enter or paste the following command pressing RETURN after:
    defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1
Miraculously your problem will be Solved.

  • Rebooting Airport Extreme

I have replaced my airport extreme with a new airport time capsule. Awesome. I restored my former airport extreme to factory settings. Now I cannot get airport utility to recognise it. It connects, begins to set up and then drops out saying "unexpected error occurred - try again." Of course I have tried again - and tried doing reset it etc. etc. The extreme was working fine before I replaced it. I want to use it as an extension.
Any ideas on what to do appreciated.

You have probably reset the AirPort Extreme a few times, but please do it one more. Just power it up for a few minutes, hold in the reset button for 8-10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the Extreme to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Temporarily, move the Extreme to the same room or close proximity to the Time Capsule
Power off the Time Capsule for a minute or two, then power it back up and wait a minute for a green light
On the iPhone or iPad home screen.....
    Tap Settings
    Tap WiFi
Look for a setting of Setup a New AirPort Base Station
Just below that, tap on AirPort Extreme
The utility will open up and take a minute to analyze the settings, then it will indicate that the AirPort Extreme will be configured to extend the Time Capsule network
Enter a device name that you want to use for the AirPort Extreme and tap Next
The utility will set up everything for you. When you see the message of Setup Complete, tap Done
Now move the Extreme about half way between the Time Capsule and the general area that needs more wireless coverage. The more that you have line of sight between the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme, the better the system will operate.
    Please post on your results.

  • Airport Extreme 802.11ac wifi stops working - requires reboot

I have an Airport Extreme 802.11ac which has worked fine for me for several months.  However, in the last 2 weeks, my wifi disappears from all devices about once every other day.  The light is green on the Extreme, but no devices see the wifi.  After a power cycle, the wifi comes back up and works fine, for a while (24-48 hours)
The Apple AirPort Extreme 802.11ac is running
    software version is 7.7.3
Router Mode is OFF (Bridge mode)
    DHCP is disabled too.
2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channel selection is set to auto.
I have no usb disks plugged in.
Is anyone else having this issue?

The light is green on the Extreme, but no devices see the wifi.
Can you test something by ethernet?? Is it totally wireless or has internet dropped out as well?
    This is important.
What modem router is it plugged into.. as some are very flakey with the AC model airports?
Have you tried a full factory reset... and clean new setup?
This is required now and then. Especially if anything Yosemite is in the network.. please do the following even if you don't use Yosemite it can help.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
Then redo the setup from the computer or iOS running the latest utility.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg AEgen6 and AEwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better since the issue is more wireless use AE24ghz and AE5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the AE always takes the same IP address.. this is a problem for you as bridged you will need to set dhcp reservation in the main router.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric..
    5. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
