Airport Extreme-Green-Amber-Off

I've read several threads on resetting Airport Exreme.  Kids accidentally kicked off power supply station to all devices including computer. Upon power up the Extreme light goes green, amber then off.  Tried soft reset, hard reset, factory reset, etc.  Went through steps from various threads here to sequencially power up devices.  Still, once Extreme is powered up, the light is green for a second, Amber for about 20 seconds then goes off completely.  Reset gets amber light to flash but then steady, then off.  Think it's fried?  BTW, broadband modem works fine once directely connected to iMac.  No broadband at all if connected through Extreme.  Thaks in advance.

  Think it's fried?
Unfortunately, yes. The question is whether the outboard power supply "brick" failed, or whether internal power supply components have failed....or possibly both.
If you have an Apple store in your area, might be a good idea to take it to them to let them have a look.

  • Why does my AirPort Extreme keep shutting off?

My AirPort Extreme keeps shutting off randomly can any one help?
    -thanks

More experience leads me to believe the problem is with the new iMac.  If I get the network going by turning AirPort Extreme power off, then on, I see a good signal at my iMac. Experience shows the network drops off after several hours. But yesterday I turned the iMac off, and the network remainded up (I could see it on my iPhone and iPad) throughout the night.  That's the first time that has happened since I got the new iMac.  Never had this issue with the old machine. I transferred all file to the new machine from a Time Machine backup that was up-to-date.  Am working with Apple support. They had me do a re-boot of the AirPort and will call back tomorrow AM to learn it did not solve the problem, but turning off the iMac does.  Darn.

  • My new airport extreme keeps shutting off

periodically my airport extreme just shuts off,I unplug and wait nd replug and its fine, but what is wrong?

I assume that you mean that your new AirPort Extreme completely powers-down randomly.
If that's the case, there are at least four things I can think for why that may be happening:
The power cord is not fully attached at the base of the AirPort Extreme.
There is a potential issue with the AC wall outlet or power strip (if you are using one.) Try using another outlet or power strip.
There is a potential issue with the AC's internal power supply.
The overall ambient temperature around the Extreme is too high and is causing the Extreme's power suppy to shut down.

  • Airport extreme blinking amber light error when connecting to new modem

I have just bought and installed a new modem gateway.  It is an Arris TG852G DOC 3.0 model with a built in WiFi router.
After connecting it and activating it through Comcast, I reset, then reconnected my airport extreme MD0331LL/A Model No. A1408 to the new Arris
modem, I am getting blinking amber lights on the base station.  I have internet connectivity, but I am still getting an amber light.  My wireless devices (ipad and iphones) all see the old network name and id and seem to work just fine.
When I scanned for my airport base station in my airport utility (version 5.6.1)  to try to resolve the error message I get
a message stating that the Airport Utility is not detecting any airport devices.
I cannot reset the default settings as these buttons do not work within the Airport Utility.
I suspect interference between the built in router in the Arris and I understand I need to operate it in bridge mode.  Can you please help me fix this.
The COMCAST people are extremely unhelpful, and stated that this is not their problem but a problem with my router
as they have provifded me  internet connectivity through the modem and the issue is my problem.

Try connecting an Ethernet cable from your computer directly to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme to see if AirPort Utility can detect the AirPort Extreme that way.
If yes, click on the AirPort Extreme and then click directly on the word Status (2nd line on the summary page)
A window will open to explain why the amber light is blinking
If the message indicates that you need to configure the AirPort in Bridge Mode......
Click the Internet icon at the top of the window
Click the Internet Connection tab just below
Change the setting for Connection Sharing to Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update at the lower right of the window to save the new setting and restart the AirPort Extreme
You can disconnect the Ethernet cable that you were using to configure the AirPort Extreme now
It would be a good idea to power off both the Arris gateway and the AirPort Extreme now
    Wait a minute
Start the Arris first, and let it run a full minute
Start the AirPort Extreme next the same way
    You should be all set

  • Airport Extreme Blinking Amber But Internet Working Fine Multiple Status Messages

I have Airport Extreme 5.6.1.   It started blinking amber showing Airport did not have a valid Internet Address.   I was concerned about with changing anything if I could still connet.   Checked a forum and it suggested to go to sheck status and see the problem.   I did and now I have a new mesage.  No DNS server address.   I am hesitant about doing anything because if I do and lose internet connection I am really up a creek without a paddle.

Just to update.   I unplugged my modem for a short time.   When it powered up the light was green on my Airport Extreme.

  • HT4600 AirPort Extreme solid amber. Stuck.

Anyone able to unbrick AirPort Extreme?  It is less than 2 years old with 2TB drive. Suddenly stopped working and factory reset, holding reset down during power cycle, unplugging hard drive haven't helped.
On power cycle, led is green at first, changes to Amber after 2 secs and stays amber for hours.
Connected to Ethernet port on my Mac and no Ethernet signal.
Like the manual says, it is stuck in startup mode.
I debated buying another AirPort Extreme, but got a Netgear instead for less and back online.
Curious if anyone got a fix to unbrick apple device.

I would not think the power supply needs replacing. But the hard disk might.
I am a bit shocked that an item 6days out of warranty and Apple refuse to deal with what is plainly a faulty drive.
Do you have applecare?? Did they even suggest or ask about your other products?
Applecare will cover your TC up to 3years.. along with a computer. The rules are complicated so ask first.
One way we have suggested to people.. is buy the cheapest product with applecare that covers the TC.. in most markets that is an Apple TV. As long as the TC is less than 2years either side of the purchase of the device with applecare it will be covered. But only up to a max of 3years.. ask before buying to make sure they agree.. sometimes you need to help the staff by quoting the T&C of applecare warranty for them.
Do not open the ATV.. once you have your new (replacement/refurbished) TC.. you can sell the ATV on ebay etc unopened.. get most of your money back. It is hard to have to use tricks like this.. but that is the world we live in. Be polite but do not roll over.

  • AirPort Extreme / Green Light ON / Can't see it on network

    My Setting
Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi (4th Gen) and Motorola Surfboad Model SB6120 with Comcast service
Solid Green Light is ON / Internet is working with LAN line connection on Airport Extreme.
    Problem
I can not see it from wireless.
    Attempts
Scan with Airport Utitity from my MacBook Pro
Scan with Airport Utility from iPhone 4
    Scan with other PCs.....

Your problem might stem from having your Airport create a "private" or "hidden" network or by having turned off the wireless functionality of the AE.
If you think you might have setup a private network, but don't know the name, or turned off the wireless, you can:
    - connect your MBP by ethernet cable; then,
    - adjust the WiFi settings to enable wireless clients; or
    - adjust the Wireless security to disable a hidden or private network.
If all else fails, perform a hard factory reset by holding down the physical reset button in the back of the AE with a paperclip, and redo the setup.
    Good Luck.

  • Airport extreme goes goes off a lot

My airport extreme goes off line and on line a lot and the green light never goes on anymore at all, why?

What you describe is a classic symptom of wireless interference.

  • New Airport Extreme, Green Light,  No Internet

Trying to get wifi connection so my mom can use her new ipad I bought her for Christmas and so guests can use wifi when they visit. I connected this new airport extreme 802.11n Wi_Fi to their comcast modem. After connecting get green light on airport extreme but now no internet connection on mac desktop computer. Have tried resetting modem, powering off airport and computer... still no internet. Internet works fine using comcast modem but does not connect to internet at all with airport extreme. Help. Extremely frustrated and ready to return this airport extreme.

    Welcome to the discussion area!
It's likely not the AirPort Extreme that is causing your issue. It is the cable modem.
Perhaps you were not aware that a cable modem must be completely reset whenever there is a change in the device that the modem is connected to? Your ISP should have made this clear to you. A good reset often takes 30 minutes or more.
Push the reset button on the modem
Power off the modem for 30 minutes
Pull the battery if it's easily accessible
Power down the AirPort Extreme and your computers
After the wait period, power up the modem first and let it run for 3-4 minutes by itself.
Then power up the AirPort Extreme the same way
Then power up your other devices the same way
Please post back on your results.

  • AirPort Extreme - Solid Amber

I've just bought the Airport extreme and when I plugged it in for the first time, for brief moment I saw green and then solid amber and it remains like that for hours and hours without changing.
I can not connect to it using airport utility. I have tried to connect the Airport to my Macbook Pro and NETGEAR router using patch ethernet cable but to no avail.
    anyone got a solution?

The solid amber means you don't have security enabled. Use the Airport Utility to configure your base station and enable WPA2 security. For more information consult the User Guide and this article.

  • Airport Extreme - green light, but no internet

I've been using my airport extreme for 2 years, connected to an Alcatel-Lucent modem.
A couple of months ago I bought 2 airport express devices and cabled them to the extreme in bridge mode, working just fine.
After a 2-week trip I returned home and I found that all the devices showed a green light in the Airport Utility, but the internet was orange.
I could connect myself to the network, play music in my airplay sound system, but couldn't surf the web or use my apple tv.
Now internet is changing from green to orange every 5 minutes.
I tried everything that I have read in different forums, but with bad results.
    Any other suggestion?
    Thank you very much.

I tried working on my computer with a wired connection from the modem itself and it works perfectly.
If you mean that you have the computer connected directly to the modem and things work OK, then leave things "as is" for at least a few hours.....longer would be better....and report on your results at that time.
Then, we will do the next check.

  • Airport Extreme card switched off

After upgrading from 10.4 to 10.5 my Macbook Pro Airport Extreme does not function at all, obviously because the Airport card is turned off. As far as I know, I haven´t done this on purpose. I have not been able to find out how to get it back to work. Where is the on/off switch?
    Sorry about my stupidity...
    JanteroW, Finland

There is no way to "program" the Extreme to turn off it's WiFi signal. You can limit children's Internet access:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1161672/limit_internet_access.html
An alternative would be to just turn off the Extreme at the wall.

  • Airport extreme flashing amber but still have internet

My airport extreme is flashing amber but I still have an internet connection. Should I be concerned?

When I opened Airport Utility, it gave me a message that firmware needed to be updated (to 7.6).  However, clicking on continue or search for update (can't remember exactly what the option was), the utility searched endlessly for the update. I'd read on a previous discussion about unplugging the AirPort Extreme for 10 seconds. I did this while the airport was stuck in search mode. Sure enough that worked.

  • Airport Extreme self power off.

    Hi everybody!
I've just bought new Airport Extreme 802.11ac and its turning off, when there is no device connected.
Does anybody know how to fix this strange thing?

I suggest that you return the defective AirPort Extreme to an Apple Store and obtain a replacement device.
If you do not have an Apple Store near you, contact Apple Support directly.

  • Airport Extreme 'N' kicks off Airport Express 'G"

Hi, I have noticed that running a Netgear DG834N device running in 802.11n kicked off my older Airport Express (running in 802.11g). Neither of my mac laptops could view the express anymore. Change the Netgear to 802.11g and the Express comes back online.
I decided to try out the Airport Extreme base station running 802.11n and the same happens. Is N to G interop poor generally? is it in fact supported? any thoughts from anyone?
    Thanks Rob

First off, if you want any G-rated devices to connect to your N-base station, make sure your N-base station is broadcasting in a "G/B-compatible" mode. That means don't use anything that is "N-ONLY" mode.
Of course whenever you have any G devices on your N network, you lose all the benefits of N network speed, as your network will operate only as fast as its slowest device.
