Ajax Type CallBacks

Hi ,
How can we achieve Ajax Call backs:
Scenario: On CLick of a button I invoke a backing bean method, This method has to create a JSON Object and send it back to the calling script.
The script then gets the JSON Object and fetches the data and applies it on the screen.
Thanks
Ashwin

Hi,
use af:serverListener and then in the managed bean ExtendedRenderkitService - see this whitepaper for how to use it

Ps.: Are you sure you want using ADF Faces and not pure HTML given you bypass all lifecycle ?

  • Does the CrystalReportViewer support AJAX

    Hi,
    (I apologies that my previous post was lengthy, so I will keep it short)
    Does the CrystalReportViewer support AJAX within a Java servlet enviroment?
    I have seen a number of posts on the ASP.NET with the following comments:
    Crystal report not workes with Ajax,because it modifies the response, and cause
    System.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException.
    Many thanks
    Matthew

    The CR4E 2.0 Java CrystalReportViewer DHTML viewer uses AJAX-type callbacks to the CrystalReportViewerServlet for much of its UI functionality.
    It's not meant to be operated within a different AJAX framework.
    That's what you're seeing in the CR.NET side - Microsoft's ASP.NET AJAX framework has a control container, where compliant ASP.NET component embedded within the container become AJAX-y, i.e., updates via client-side JavaScript callbacks rather than frame update.   The CR.NET CrystalReportViewer isn't compliant with that framework.
    But you wouldn't be embedding the Java CrystalReportViewer in such a container.
    So I'm assuming whether the Java CrystalReportViewer JavaScripts will conflict with AJAX JavaScript you're already using.
    The answer to that is - it depends on the framework you're using.
    Note that the viewer isn't validated to work with any specific AJAX framework, so you'd have to try it yourself.
    Sincerely,
    Ted Ueda

  • Using a Variable with AJAX

    Hello,
    Below I have posted code that I have on two different PHP files, tsearch12.php and votes12.php. The code works great. The file "tsearch12.php" uses AJAX to go to votes12.php to perform some functions. However, the first page has a variable called "find." These two pages only work together when the variable "find" equals "santafe." I would like them to work together regardless of what "find" equals. In other words, I would like to replace the table name "santafe" in votes12.php with the variable "find," but I want the variable "find" to equal the same value in both tsearch12.php and votes12.php. The variable "find" is going to tsearch12.php from another file, which has a simple HTML form with "<form action="tsearch12.php" method="post">" and "<input type="text" name="find" size="55"/>". Anyway, how do I use the variable "find" in votes12.php?
    Thanks in advance,
    John
    On tsearch12.php, I have:

  • How to toggle a region in AJAX

    I have 5 regions in a page and each region may contain upto 10 items. Currently these regions are show/hide type based on "self submit select list" value at the top of the page.Now, I need to convert this self submit LOV to Ajax style LOV. If I convert the LOV to AJAX type, how can show/hide the regions as soon as the LOV value is changed without submitting/refreshing page?. I have used "$x_ToggleItemRow(['P1_ITEM','P2_ITEM']);" call to toggle an item and works fine, but not sure how to do the toggle for a region based on AJAX LOV value. any ideas are appreciated.
    thanks for your help,
    Surya

    I feel a little bit stupid but I can't get this to work...
    I have a report (tabular form) where I want to have a link of each row to show a region with values.
    I have a link in my report:
    target: URL
    URL: javascript:$x_Toggle(l_Item)
    In page header:
    <script>
    var l_Item = '999';
    var l_Items = ['TEST_REGION_1','TEST_REGION_2','TEST_REGION_3'];
    </script>
    On the region I want to show/hide I set Static Id = 999
    Changed the template to:
    <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" id="#REGION_STATIC_ID#" class="t3ReportsRegion" summary="">
    <tr>
    <td valign="bottom" class="t3RegionHeader">#TITLE#</td>
    <td class="t3ButtonHolder" align="right">#CLOSE#   #PREVIOUS##NEXT##DELETE##EDIT##CHANGE##CREATE##CREATE2##EXPAND##COPY##HELP#</td>
    </tr>
    <tr class="t3instructiontext">
    <td colspan="2" valign="top" class="t3Body">#BODY#</td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    What am I doing wrong??
    Regards Daniel

  • Why won't my JQuery AJAX Work?

    I've used AJAX and JQUERY AJAX before, but I can't get it working in Dreamweaver with a test PhoneGap site.  I'm pasting in my code below.
    I put some alerts in, one to let me know the event got inside the "change" fuction (that works).  Then I have another after the AJAX and it doesn't.  The dropdown hangs and doesn't even close.  I don't get a success, a failure or even a timeout!  WTF?  I have the URL destination in the same folder and I've tried adding the localhost and leaving it off, but to no avail.

    I got the AJAX working.  It turned out I had GET instead of "GET" in the ajax call.
    What makes it maddening was I cut and pasted it from somewhere on the net that said it worked.  Argh.
    HOWEVER...
    Now I have another problem.  I'm trying to set up a cascading dropdown and I have data flowing back in JSON form and it LOOKS like it's populating the SELECT, but when it's done the length of the SELECT is still 1.
    Any ideas?  I've put JavaScript alerts in to show you and I have two different ways of populating the dropdown and neither worked -- nor did the old fashioned "target.options[i] = new Option(opttext,optvalue )".
    HELP!

  • Business Catalyst Log in form via AJAX

    Hi guys I am trying to avoid the standard form redirection of Business Catalyst to a more customisable style but I cant get it to respond properly.
    Here is my code:
    $("#login-form").submit(function(e) {
            e.preventDefault();
            $.ajax({
                type: "POST",
                url: $(this).attr("action"),
                data: $(this).serialize(),
                success: function(e) {
                    window.location = 'https://bestkilts.worldsecuresystems.com/user-system/order-history.htm'; // I know this can be set from the form submission but I have other plans
                error: function(e) {
                    $(".form-error").slideDown();
                    $(".form-error").delay(8e3).slideUp(300)
    The form is already submitting via AJAX! "&JSON=1".
    Eventually the error message responds as a success! so I cant really look at the AJAX response to code this precise.
    Please any one there with some knowledge about it please share.

    Only custom web forms in BC have an ajax / json response request, that will not work with the login form and some others in BC.
    You will need to do your own ajax request but then you will not issues about the cross domain etc. You need to look at how the BC login works, your refresh and how to address that. (Its more complicated then you think)

  • Send a message from a list of emails in lightswitch 2013.4 HTML screen using ajax

    Hi There,
    any idea how to make a button to send a message from a list of emails in lightswitch 2013.4 HTML.
    my idea is to send message to all emails in the details picker (or the drop down menu or a choice list) tat is filled by SQL query (as a data source in lightswitch)
    i have read many articles,  most of them were written in PHP or VB !
    for example:
    http://www.devarticles.com/c/a/HTML/Sending-email-with-AJAX-building-a-small-application/1/
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/22442074/how-to-send-email-to-a-list-of-addresses-from-lightswitch
    http://lightswitchhelpwebsite.com/Forum/tabid/63/aft/75/Default.aspx
    http://maxslabyak.com/c-sharp/using-jquery-to-send-email-with-web-services/
    http://www.paulspatterson.com/microsoft-lightswitch-sending-emails-from-the-client/
    http://www.quercussolutions.com/blog/index.php/microsoft-lightswitch-sending-emails/
    http://www.lightswitchspecial.com/2013/01/7-most-easiest-way-to-send-email-from.html
    as far as  i know, the HTML screens in lightswitch 2013 can be encoded with ajax only, not vb or C# any more!
    my project contains only HTML screens, no desktop screens. i know that i can do the VB programming in the tables actions, but i am looking to have this code in the Browse screen to give me more flexibility depending on my decision to
    send or not..
    help please :)

    Hello Hasan,
    I do this using a generic handler(e.g. sendmail.ashx). In the ashx file i use this code:
    Imports System.Net.Mail
    Imports System.Web
    Imports System.Web.Services
    Sub ProcessRequest(ByVal context As HttpContext) Implements IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest
    Dim str As String = "there was no error "
    Dim Recipient As String = Convert.ToString(context.Request.Params("pRecipient"))
    Dim strsub As String = Convert.ToString(context.Request.Params("pSubject"))
    Dim strmsg As String = Convert.ToString(context.Request.Params("pMessage"))
    Dim msg As New MailMessage
    Try
    ' Your mail address and display name.
    ' This what will appear on the From field.
    ' If you used another credentials to access
    ' the SMTP server, the mail message would be
    ' sent from the mail specified in the From
    ' field on behalf of the real sender.
    msg.From = New MailAddress("[email protected]", "Displayname")
    ' To addresses
    msg.To.Add("[email protected]")
    'msg.To.Add(New MailAddress("[email protected]", "Friend B"))
    ' You can specify CC and BCC addresses also
    ' Set to high priority
    msg.Priority = MailPriority.High
    msg.Subject = strsub
    ' You can specify a plain text or HTML contents
    msg.IsBodyHtml = True
    msg.Body = strmsg
    'msg.Body = _
    ' "Hello everybody,<br /><br />" & _
    ' "I found an interesting site called <a href=""http:'JustLikeAMagic.WordPress.com"">" & _
    ' "Just Like a Magic</a>. Be sure to visit it soon."
    ' In order for the mail client to interpret message
    ' body correctly, we mark the body as HTML
    ' because we set the body to HTML contents.
    ' Attaching some data
    ' msg.Attachments.Add(New Attachment("D:\Site.lnk"))
    ' Connecting to the server and configuring it
    Dim client As New SmtpClient()
    client.Host = "mail.gmx.com"
    client.Port = 25
    client.EnableSsl = True
    ' The server requires user's credentials
    ' not the default credentials
    client.UseDefaultCredentials = False
    ' Provide your credentials
    client.Credentials = New System.Net.NetworkCredential("yourcredentias", "f2f081639ad")
    client.DeliveryMethod = SmtpDeliveryMethod.Network
    ' Use SendAsync to send the message asynchronously
    client.Send(msg)
    Catch ex As Exception
    str = ex.Message
    Finally
    msg.Dispose()
    End Try
    context.Response.ContentType = "text/plain"
    context.Response.Write(str)
    End Sub
    When you create the ASHX then replace the ProcessRequest with the above function.
    In LS HTML Screen create the function for pressing a button an appen the following text:
    $.ajax({
    type: 'post',
    data: {
    pRecipient: Screen.yourdata,
    pSubject: Screen.yourdata,
    pMessage: Screen.yourdata,
    url: '../sendmail.ashx',
    success: function success(result) {
    alert(result);
    This is a way you can do that. In VB and out of your browse Screen.
    Hope this helps

    Any suggestions why following this tutorial: http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/851/cpsid_85119.html?bc-partner results in the form submitting, but then loading up a white page with the following text?
    {"FormProcessV2Response": { "success": true, "entityId": "51918536", "objectTypeId": "Cases", "objectId": "7634958", "message": "<table class=\"tabledefault\"><tr><td id=\"title\"><strong>Summary of web form submission:<\/strong><br\/><!-- IP Address: 24.8.110.183 --><\/td><\/tr><tr><td id=\"name\"><strong>Your Name<\/strong><br\/>Brian <\/td><\/tr><tr><td id=\"email\"><strong>Email Address<\/strong><br\/><a href=\"mailto:[email protected]\">[email protected]<\/a><\/td><\/tr><tr><td id=\"casenumber\"><strong>Case Number<\/strong><br\/>7634958<\/td><\/tr><tr><td id=\"customfields\"><table class=\"tabledefault\"><tr><td id=\"CAT_Custom_409420\"><strong>Lesson<\/strong><br \/>Model Lesson<\/td><\/tr><tr><td id=\"CAT_Custom_409419\"><strong>Quiz Score Field<\/strong><br \/>90<\/td><\/tr><\/table><\/td><\/tr><\/table>" }}
    Success message is supposed to show on same page as form.
    Thx,

  • Getting started with Ajax - how do I query the db without 'submitting' the page?

    Hi guys,
    I'm building a simple 'power point presentation' - basically a cf page which will display a large jpg [a slide]) every n seconds I want the page to query the db to ask if it needs to change the jpg and if so which jpg should it now show. In this way we can control the presentation by updating the database on the fly.
    So I think I will acheive this as follows:
    1. a 'display' page that contains javascript that fires every n seconds
    2. that js to somehow pass 2 variables (GET?) to an action page (ie user id and an authentication var)
    3. the action page will the query the db (using the vars passed in step 2)
    4. the action page returns a result (path to jpg to display) which somehow(?!) is passed back to the display page
    5. the display page then swaps the jpg it is showing for the one passed back to it in step 4
    6. ideally the display page then also passes another 2 variables to the action page letting us know it has received the update and changed the image accordingly
    I'm fine with all the html and cfm stuff - where I am stuck is the js bits, I've had a good look through google and don't seem to be making any progress so if anyone could please point me in the right direction I'd be ever so grateful.
    Any snippets / advice very gratefully received
    TIA
    Nick

    Hi Nick -
    Let me also recommend jQuery.
    Fantastic stuff once you get the hang of it, and even the simple stuff is cool.
    Ok... here's what I did...
    There are probably better ways to do it, but I cheated, in that I did it my way, and got some good results.
    Using divs to define my display areas here's what I did:
    I have 2 select statements -
    1) Selecting from 1 populates the other select.
    2) The JS function is triggered when a selection is made.
    3) The Ajax statement goes out to a web page, that new page does a query and creates a new div with the same name as "txtResult", for my example.
    4) The Ajax then pulls back the new page and displays it.
    It's pretty easy after a few tries.
    Hope this helps.
    Doug
    function dynamic_Select(poolID){
    $.ajax({
    type: "GET",
    url: '/forms/selectSchedules.cfm',
    data: "id=" + poolID,
    dataType: "text/html",
    success: function(html){
        $("#txtResult").html(html);
        <div style=" padding-left:100px;">
            Select Pool:
            <select name="pool" onchange="dynamic_Select(this.value)" />
            <option value="#" selected="selected">-Select-</option>
            <cfoutput query="pools">
            <option value="#poolID#">#poolName#</option>
            </cfoutput>
            </select>
            <span id="txtResult" style=" padding-left:100px;">
                Select Schedule:
                <select name="schedules" id="schedules" onchange="getInfo()">
                <option></option>
                </select>
            </span>
        </div>

  • Doctype Syntax Error when using AJAX Form Submission

    I have a simple email signup form that is submitted using AJAX. When I submit the webform it throws a Syntax Error that says "<!DOCTYPE html>
    Here is the AJAX Code:
    function jqsub() {
    var $f = $('#email-form');
    var $m = $('#success-message');
    $.ajax({
      type: 'POST',
      url: $f.attr('action') + '&JSON=1',
      data: $f.serialize(),
        success: function(msg) {
         var formResponse = eval(msg);
            if (formResponse.FormProcessV2Response.success) {
                    $f.fadeOut();
                    $m.fadeIn().html('<p>Thank you for joining our mailing list.</p>');
        error: function(msg) {
        alert('error'+msg);
        return false;
    Why am I seeing this error and how do I solve it?
    Note: The site is not public yet and I cannot post it on a public forum. If needed I can PM you the link.
    Thanks for the help!
    Lynda

    I am not sure I follow. I am using the HTML 5 Doctype: <!doctype html> on the page and I have the form code copied into the page. As far as I know any page on my site, including all layouts, are HTML 5 Doctype.
    Is there some area I should look to change a setting?
    Thanks Liam!

  • AJAX/JSON functionality for Newsletter Subscription Form

    Okay so we have Newsletter subscription form where we would like to implement this functionality using steps shown here - http://demo.businesscatalyst.com/json-form.
    We used following code and it didn't work:
    <script type="text/javascript">
                                function jqsub() {
                                var $f = $('#newsletter_signup');
                                var $m = $('#newsletter_form_result');
                                $f.find('.btn').prepend('<i class="icon-spinner icon-spin"></i>').addClass('disabled').attr('disabled', 'disabled');
                                $.ajax({
                                  type: 'POST',
                                  url: $f.attr('action') + '&amp;JSON=1',
                                  data: $f.serialize(),
                                  success: function(msg) {
                                    var formResponse = eval(msg);
                                        if (formResponse.FormProcessV2Response.success) {
                                                $f.fadeOut(function(){ //Hide the form
                                                        $m.addClass('success').fadeIn().html("<p>Thank you for signing up to receive updates and offers.</p>");
                                    error: function(msg) {
                                    alert('error'+msg);
                                    return false;
                                </script>
    Then we noticed that user gets automated message and also we can see admin area that he has subscribed to newsletter, that means although there is no movement on the page, form gets submitted. That means the "if" argument is not working. That leads us to the question what would form newsletter subscription return upon submission - would it retuern "FormProcessV2Response"? Then we took off  "var formResponse = eval(msg);  if (formResponse.FormProcessV2Response.success)" and modified code as below.
    <script type="text/javascript">
                                function jqsub() {
                                var $f = $('#newsletter_signup');
                                var $m = $('#newsletter_form_result');
                                $f.find('.btn').prepend('<i class="icon-spinner icon-spin"></i>').addClass('disabled').attr('disabled', 'disabled');
                                $.ajax({
                                  type: 'POST',
                                  url: $f.attr('action') + '&amp;JSON=1',
                                  data: $f.serialize(),
                                  success: function(msg) {
                                                $f.fadeOut(function(){ //Hide the form
                                                        $m.addClass('success').fadeIn().html("<p>Thank you for signing up to receive updates and offers.</p>");
                                    error: function(msg) {
                                    alert('error'+msg);
                                    return false;
                                </script>
    This code worked in terms of triggering fadding in and out animations, but now our concern is if this is a right way of tackling this issue. Would it be processed correctly when any error occured? Should we have any if argument similar to what we had in previous code?
    If someone can guide us on this one, then it would be really great.
    Thanks

    Dear vora,
    Its very simple, matter of adding simpel jQuery related code. I mean something like Ajax submitting form without page refresh and getting JSON response back.
    For instance have a look over this example..
    http://www.java4s.com/jquery-tutorials/submit-form-without-refreshing-page-in-javajsp-with -jquery/
    Even the newsletter they are using is based on jQuery/JSON, in fact they applied through PHP, however you can use in any technology.
