Akai samples in ESX 24

After importing an Akai collection,  is there a way to set up several samples into one instance of the ESX24?
Example:  Have a pattern that plays a blues progression in C and be able to play a different variation of the pattern in C without having to create another track and another instance of the ESX24?  I hope this is clear enough.
Thank you

Sure you can do this. Open the exs edit window, create new instrument, load multiple samples (from the zone menu)

  • Reading Akai Sample CD's

    Hi everyone ...
This is a question regarding the Akai Sample CD's. I am aware that you can import and convert the CD using EXS24 by clicking on options, then Akai Convert and then clicking on Convert Entire CD.
But the question i have is, how do i make Logic do the conversion and place the files on an external firewire drive instead of the hard drive on my powerbook?
I would like to use the AKAI sounds when my FW hard drive is connected - and i am assuming if the HDD is not connected, EXS24 sounds wont show up ...
Thanks in advance for your help / guidance!
    take care,

Direct it to save them to the FW Drive. Or move them later.

Correct. Unless you decide which sounds you want and then 'Save as Project' and include the EXS24 sounds in the project. (store the project on your internal drive.

  • Can't find Akai samples on Hard drive after EXS 24 Mk II conversion

    Hi,
I've recently acquired a large Akai sound library on CD and have imported them onto my Mac Pro via the converter in the EXS 24 Mk II. They show up fine in the EXS Library, but I can't find them anywhere on the hard disk, and I want to remove them and re install them into smaller subfolders, ie, Violins, Flutes etc, rather than just Orchestra.
Everything I've read says that the samples should be in a folder called Akai samples, located in Library/Application Support/Logic. No such folder is showing.
It doesn't make any difference whether I use the 'save converted instruments to sub folder' option or not, they are nowhere to be seen, outside of the EXS library.
I've tried it on both my machines, both running 10.7.5, Logic 9.1.8. (Logic is running in 32 bit mode during the conversion)
Anyone else had this or know a cure??
Thanks in advance for any help!

Well, I thought that'd cleared it up, but apparently not! The only way I can see the AKAI Samples folder is when using the Reveal in Finder function in the EXS 24. A normal Finder/Spotlight search will not show it, even after re indexing the drive. I can only assume that this is something to do with the fact that the file conversion can only take place through the EXS 24, therefore it doesn't register as existing outside of that... Can this really be? If you go back through the file hierarchy to Library (through the EXS) the Library icon is greyed out too, and double clicking it will not open the library folder. At least I know how to get to it now anyway.

  • AKAI sample programs on HD - How to convert to EXS24?

    Hi Guys,
I have dozens of Akai samples (WAV files) and programs (AKM, AKP files) on a hard drive.  The Akai Convert option in EXS24 wants to see an Akai CD.  CDExtract doesn't seem to have been updated in a while (the trial download is PowerPC).  Is there a current method for converting the Akai samples resident on a hard drive to the EXS24?
    I'm running Logic Pro 9.1.8 on a Mac Pro, OS X 10.10.2

And the answer is... Chicken Systems Translator 6

  • How do you edit samples in esx 24?

    Hello,
I am trying to edit my saples in ESX 24 by clicking on the triangle next to the audio files name and choosing "open in sample editor." I edit the audio file, close sample editor wanted thew sample to reflect the edit but it does not.
    Thank you.

    Hi Jan Due1,
I split 1 audio file into 10 different regions on the arrange page. I select them all~right click~choose convert to new sampler track and logic creats a new ESX instrument and imports each region as a seperate sample. I want to open up each sample in the sampler editor and edit the region that the saple will play back but when I close the sample editor it goes back to its orrigional position.

  • EXS 24, importing AKAI samples...

I want to import all of my AKAI CD-ROMs into EXS 24, and I want all of the sampler instruments and samples to live on my external FW drive.
Having a heck of a time trying to understand the file management heirarchy, I started from scratch, and tried to keep things simple.
    1. Erased all previous instances of the CD's I had been importing
    2. Imported a single program/samples from one particular CD. After it was loaded, I moved the audio files (using the EXS24 move function) to a folder on my FW drive and saved the program in another folder on the same drive. Then I deleted the program from the internal HD where it was originally saved.
    3. Repeated this with a second single program from the CD
When I was done, there were two instances of the first program saved on my FW drive (one had the .exs extension, one did not). This was not the case for the second program. (Huh???!!!??)
When I clicked on the EXS24 program selection window, the menu indicated two "External" volumes (but I've only got one external FW drive). One folder contained the first program, the other the second program, and on top of it all, there was an additional folder containing the duplicate of the first program. A bit mind-numbing, eh?
If anyone can explain how I can (easily) import all of my stuff to my FW drive without creating duplications, or, point me to an on-line tutorial, I'd reeeeeeaaaaallly appreciate it.

    Thanks to all who responded.
I finally figured out where Logic was putting samples and instruments. After some trial and error, and re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-reading the manual, I figured out how to move all of this data to my external FW drive and still have Logic see it.
I took your (collective) advice and tried importing whole disks at once. Problem was that it generated so much data that I was making mistakes as I organized my various programs into folders and sub-folders (doing orchestral stuff, so strings, winds, brass, perc all needed to be separated). So I did it "the hard way", one volume (or program) at a time, and now everyone's organized and happy.
Thanks again for the replies. Cheers!

  • Importing akai samples??

when i try to convert my akai cd-rom into the exs through options in the exs24 nothing ever pops up and the conversion-window still tells me its waiting for akai disk
i already put AKAI folders both into the Logic-folder and sampler instruments but nothing !!
    any idea ?

So.. do you know if CDXtract will look at s5000 samples and programs (mainly the programs as that's where all the work is) and translate them to EXS format?
I have my Akai programs sitting on the HD in my Akai. I programmed them and made the originating samples so they are not on an Akai CDRom. I have tried messing with disk imaging of Akai CDRoms to try and fool EXS into importing my programs and samples but to no avail.
Although it is easy getting the samples and programs onto my Mac, I can't find a way to import the programs. The thought of re-doing all the splits and ADSR's etc is not appealing at all....
So do you think CDXtract could be the answer?

  • Akai samples

hi. i have an uberschall cd with akai s/5000 and s/6000 samples on it. according to the manual the EXS 24 can only import akai s/1000 and s/3000 samples. when i put in the cd it's not coming up in the akai import menu. is there anyway around this? do i need recycle? i really need this samples cd.

J, I might be mistaken, but I think the S1000 and S3000 format
    were the same.
Hmm, I always remember the 3000 as being the ******* disk format that very few things would read - one of the main reasons why so little sample content was ever made in S3000 format (as the S3xx could read S1000 disks) and one of the reasons Akai switched to the standard file formats for the S5/6000.
But yes, the EXS manual does indeed say it can read S3000 disks, so it might be just my memory playing up and I could be completely wrong - it's been quite a while since I was in contact with Akai....
    Note here: http://www.eastwestsamples.com/details.php?cd_index=194
"Note that the CD-ROM(a two disc set) is formatted for Akai S3000, which is not a format that all "Akai-compatible" samplers can read."
Edit: just had a look at the tech specs - the S1000 and S3000 formats are very similar, apart from a few differences and a few extra bits of info. So while they are different, and different enough to confuse imports that expect S1000 only, they are not radically different...

  • Cannot load samples in ESX

I'm trying to load some of the factory samples into the ESX, but when I select 'load settings' and go to the ESX factory samples they are all greyed out and cannot be selected.
Can anyone suggest what might be going on?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. (pretty new at this)

  • How do i choke samples in esx 24

choking samples comes from the mpc when you can one shot a sample and as soon as you hit another sample, the previous sample will stop playing

You have to go into the EXS editor.  (Can't find? first enable all advanced prefs)  Assign the two samples to a group, go into the group button (top left... not the group menu), change the "Poly." parameter to 1.

  • AKAI CD's

I am a new Logic user and have a question. I am not used to using Sample CD's however recently bought a version of Deepest India which im sure many of you have heard of. This is the AKAI formatted version and from what I read in Logic, the EXS sampler does AKAI conversion for you. The problem is this:
    1. I insert 1 of 3 CD's into my drive...
    2. MAC OSX does not read the CD at all, icon does not appear on Desktop and it states the usual, this volume can not be read by the OSX.
    3. I understood why, it is an Akai formatted CD
    4. How can I use these sounds, I do not want to bring them into my MPC 2000XL because I do not have an extrenal CD Drive for it plus im moving away from the MPC because of the limitations on the sampler compare to ESX.
    5. I have heard of the Chicken Translator as well as others, but can't Logic do the conversion so that it can be moved to my harddrive: Libraries> Sampler Instruments>ESX.
I really need some help, I spent a good 120 on the CD but can not do anything with its contents. I would appreciate anyone's help who may have experience a similar problem in the past. Thanks.

First start Logic, then insert an EXS instrument and tell it to convert AKAI format (under 'options' in the EXS) - then insert the disk

  • AUDIO SAMPLES FROM IOMEGA 100 ZIP DRIVE TO MAC BOOK PRO / LOGIC?

Posted: Fri, Feb 15 2013, 1:27pm    Post subject: AUDIO SAMPLES FROM ZIP 100 TO MACBOOK PRO / LOGIC?
    HI THERE
I HAVE LOADS OF OLD AUDIO SAMPLES ON ZIP DISKS ( ZIP 100 using akai cd3000 sampler ) THAT I WOULD LIKE TO TRANSFER TO MY MAC BOOK PRO FOR LOGIC EX24.
IS IT A SIMPLE CASE OF A 'SCSI TO USB LEAD' , WILL MY MAC BOOK PICK IT UP FROM THERE OR DO I NEED SOFTWARE OR DRIVERS FOR MY MAC TO BE ABLE TO SEE THEM?
IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE AT ALL?
    THANKS

    Hi guys
Sorry for the delay in coming back. I bought a zip drive pretty cheaply then and it has only just turned up. However when I put my old ZIP disks in, it seems like the ZIP drive reads them at least but the MACBOOK comes up with the following message...
'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer'
Does this pretty much mean a no go then?  Or can I put the samples from my AKAI sampler back through the old ZIP drive,  reformat some new disks in a certain way on that drive so that my MAC can read them?
All its for really is mainly to take old tracks that used these samples and getting them set up in my mac.  Also there was some good bits and pieces there anyway and would like to keep using those samples for newer projects. I could of coourse resample them from the AKAI straight to the MAC but would be not as practical and would take alot longer. The 13'' macbook pros input is not digital, only its output.
    thanks

  • EXS sampler can't find the samples anymore...

    Hi there,
there's hopefully/probably a simple solution to this problem but I'm too stupid to find it:
    Overall info:
I bought a new Mac, installed a fresh OSX 10.5.5 system and used the immigration assistent to move my old user account including all applications from my old Mac (OSX 10.4.9) to the new one.
Of course I had to re-new all serial numbers, get new authorization codes for all the plug-ins, etc., etc. and now I'm stuck with the EXS24:
I had all my own samples on an external hard drive in a folder called Akai Samples. Then I had an Alias of this folder in the Library/Application Support/Logic. The Sampler Instruments ("xxxx.exs") are all located at User/Library/Logic/Sampler Instr.
When I opened an EXS instrument, it obviously loaded the AIF samples from the external hard disk. In case I had saved samples together with a song project in a specific folder, EXS even showed me both sample location when loading the instrument with a new song.
    The problem:
Now when I open a blank new song and add an EXS24 with any sampler instruments, it starts looking for the required audio samples and then this process takes forever. I mean, the maximum I handled to wait was like 30 min. Logic is not crashed, it seems, but I guess it does, as it won't search the hard disks or at least won't find anything and most of all doesn't stop looking.Clicking "cmd+." doesn't help.
I also replaced this external hard disk with the samples with a new, additional internal hard disk. So if Logic searches for this old hard disk it's not there anymore.
This is really tricky when trying to open old songs. It's simply not possible anymore. Now is there a way to sort of refresh the library, deleting the Logic preferences did not really help.
Same situation also when I click on the Media button top right next to "Bouncing" and "Colors"... Once I click on sampler instrument, Logic starts looking and gets lost.
I would really appreciate any input, what I should do. Re-Install Logic maybe? Looks like I have a "Logic" folder in the "overall" library as well as in my user library. Is this one too much?
    Thank you in advance,
    cheers
    Joern

    Hi Butterflys,
first of all thank you for the fast reply - it definitely helped me one step further as now the exs24 does load all MY instruments incl. the samples again. Fast and efficient.
But interesting side effect - now it doesn't load the factory instruments anymore. So at least 50% problem solved ... When I use the spotlight search function in the finder the samples are there, just not for Logic. I'll keep on trying...
(Ha, I could write another novel about re-authorizing 3rd party plug-ins or audio cards... such a hassle...)
    Well, thanks a lot,
    Joern

  • Using Roland and/or Akai with Soundtrack

I have a rather large collection of Roland & Akai Sampler disks. These contain a lot of Pads and such that I would like to use with Soundtrack. The problem is that these loops contain an attack, loop point 1 & loop point 2. The sample plays and then loops from point 2 back to point 1 from within the sampler.
Is there any way to setup ST to recognize the loop points ?
I have a converter that will convert the Roland and Akai samples to a number of formats.
    Thanks
    Tim

    Hi nich.lee,
You can't chart Duration formatted data without first converting it to another format. Also, you will get an error if you attempt to use the AVERAGE function on an empty range.
Here's an example of charting Duration data by using a conversion...
    Best regards,
    Jerry
