Album Artwork question - Remote folder

One for the gurus ... I noticed that a new folder had appeared in my iTunes library structure (Album Artwork\Remote).  I'm assuming that this was created as the result of accessing and browsing a shared library (I was helping my daughter fix some issues with her library and connected via network sharing).  Is this assumption correct, and can I therefore ignore/delete this folder with no impact in my own library?

I like one-word answers
Thanks!

    another "get album artwork" question
I notice that when I click "get album artwork" it seems to go through the whole library and look for cover jpegs. (in my case, that's going to take a long time!)
here's my question: it's looking for artwork, yes, but it's NOT going to do anyything to the many, many albums for which I have already (manually) added artwork, is it? If it does - I am in trouble! Please, somebody, reassure me that the artwork I have painstakingly added manually to zillions of albums is safe!

    Updade...
So, as another test, I uninstalled iTunes, then checked the hard drive again.
All the icons have now turned into Quicktime icons, which leads me to believe that when you look at your music in finder, it shows the icons related to your default music player.
So, my next step is to find a new default player, and maybe my album covers will show up again.

  • ITunes and Album Artwork question on Mac with two users

Hey everyone, I have what I hope is a pretty simple question. Right now, on my iMac, I have 2 user accounts, one for me and one for my wife. I wanted us to be able to share all of our music, so when I was setting up the computer, I put the iTunes Music Library in a /User/Shared/Music directory. Then, inside iTunes, for both users, I pointed to this new library. Everything here works great. When I add a song under 1 user, I just have to go to Add to Library under the other user and the songs are added. Works fine.
My main question is about the album artwork. I recently spent a lot of time under my user account going through and making sure I have all of the album artwork for every song we have in our library. I never thought about checking this on my wife's account, but when I did I realized that all of the stuff I added is not there. Anyway, I did some checking and found out that the album artwork is stored in each users Music directory. I did some reading on the web, and what I did was move my album artwork folder to the /Users/Shared/ directory, then created a symbolic link in my user directory to the shared folder. I did the same in my wife's account. I thought this would do the trick but it hasn't changed anything. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks so much for your time.

The artwork is stored in Music/iTunes/Artwork.
iTunes handles everything in that folder when iTunes adds it to the database.
This info is maintained in the iTunes library file in the iTunes folder.
iTunes will not do anything by copying or pointing to the artwork folder in your folder.
Unless you are both using the same iTunes library file, you will need to get your own artwork.
I put the iTunes Music Library
Do you mean the iTunes music folder?
Here's a way to do what you want.
Move your *iTunes folder* to the shared directory.
Open iTunes holding Option and select *Choose existing library*.
Select the iTunes library file in the Shared directory.
    Everything should work fine.
    Quit iTunes.
Move the *iTunes music folder* from /User/Shared/Music directory into the *iTunes folder* you moved into the Shared directory.
    Start iTunes. Everything should work.
    Quit iTunes.
    Log into your wife's account.
Start iTunes holding the Option key, select *Choose existing library* and select the *iTunes library file* in the iTunes folder you moved into the Shared directory.
Everything should be there including all artwork.
Each user needs to quit iTunes before the other user can open it.
Shouldn't be a problem since you are using the same computer.

  • Album Artwork on Remote application controlling AppleTV (a way to force it)

Remote is great. I use it to control my Apple TV as an audio component with the TV turned off.
But it's irritating that it doesn't show the album artwork for the "Now playing" track.
It's clearly a bug and hopefully will be fixed soon. In the meantime, I found a guaranteed way to force it to appear (but it's too intrusive to be genuinely useful). Here's what to do:
When a track is playing (with no album artwork showing on the iPod Touch screen), just hit the previous track button twice (the first takes you to the beginning of the current track and the second takes you to the start of the previous track). Then hit the next track button once to take you back to the start of the original track that was playing. A couple of seconds later, the album artwork appears.
This proves it's just a simple bug, doesn't it? If it works when a track starts playing after doing previous/previous/next then surely it can be made to work when the track simply starts normally.
    Here's hoping.
    Mr Logic.

That's interesting. Thanks for the reply. I wonder what the difference is?
I've got a 1G 32GB iPod Touch (latest update) and iTunes (latest update for OSX) and Apple TV (latest update) and Remote (latest update).
Are you controlling an Apple TV library? Or an iTunes library? Presumably your iTunes is PC-based?
Does anyone out there have a similar set-up to me? If so, do you see a similar problem? Or is it just me?
    Curious.

  • Yet another album artwork question

Hi there everyone. I'm trying to add a few more songs to my 80GB iPod classic. I've taken the time to go through my 200+ albums and either use the "Add album artwork" option or search through Amazon.com for album photos, in the end, all of my songs has an image associated with it. Today I tried adding some mp3s from an album that was originally made of ogg files. After converting the files and adding the songs to iTunes, I noticed that 2 of the songs didn't have album art. I've tried everything, including the suggestion of *rebuilding the artwork cache* at least 3 times, to no avail. Is there anything else I can do? Or do I just have to wait till the next upgrade to iTunes is released and hope things work themselves out?
Thank you in advance for your time.

To clarify, do you mean that in iTunes the artwork is fine, but on the iPod it isn't there?
Have you tried REMOVING the tracks from the iPod then resyncing them back on?
    Regards,
    Patrick

  • "automatically download missing album artwork" Questions.....

I have added a lot of album and artists photos to my music. If I check the preference to let itunes fill in missing artwork will it write over art that is presently there?
If so I won't do it.

.John thanks for the response.. I'm a bit confused I know it wont workif I dont set the preference but my question is if it finds different artwork for songs that I have already put in will it replace those songs with its own artwork?

  • Album Artwork Question

I have a CD with no artwork - so i have found the artwork on google. Problem is that i seem to have to drag the artwork onto every song in the album, and i can't select all the songs on the album and drag and artwork on so it covers all of them - or can i?
    Cheers

    Yes you can.
Select the first song so it is highlighted, press shift and select the last song. All of the songs in between should be highlighted.
Right click on one of the highlighted songs and select "get info"-select yes you want to edit multiple tracks.
In the popup window, drag the image to the artwork window and select apply.

  • Itunes Album Artwork Question

Why does itunes sometimes display multiple album covers for one particular album?
It does not do this for all albums just some at random. These albums are not compilation albums either and have been performed by the same person.

I have noticed this on the Mac also. Especially noticeable when two tracks are next to each other in alpha order. This is a recent issue, as have not seen it until recently.
Perhaps is some confusion when iTunes looks for artwork and there are several versions of artwork at the search site.
Also had the problem of some older CD inputs not finding the cover art and having to go to Amazon to cut/paste their artwork and then manually putting into iTunes.

  • Another album artwork question

hey sorry guys, ok i got to pasteing this artwork in the things, and i accidently pasted the wrong artwork for a song,so i put the right one in, but it didnt replace it, it just put both of them there, but i dont want the wrong artwork on that song, and i cant figure out how to get that other artwork off of there..anyhelp, or is this the stupidest flaw itunes could have made

Did you try highlighting the file in your library, going under File, then Get Info, then Artwork? If both pictures are displayed side by side, highlight the one you don't want and click delete.

  • Itunes "Get Album Artwork"

So I have 13,543 songs in itunes.
when I choose "Get Album Artwork" it show 1of, 2of 2978. I assume that it's counting the number of albums. Not cuing off the number of songs.
    Anyone else notice this?

You could always do what I do and save the album artwork in a folder, then drag the image to the little square that says "Drag Album Artwork Here." Click the fourth button (and arrow pointing up in a square) in that little row on the bottom right side to make it appear, then click the arrow in a circle to make it show selected item. Select the song or songs and drag the artwork in there.

  • Finding iTunes Album Artwork

I am running Mac Os 1.5.4 and iTunes 7.6.9. I just got a screen saver and would like to use my album artwork as the folder for it to take pictures from. Unfortunately, all of my Artwork is embedded in the file and is not from iTunes. So I was wondering if there was a way to extract all of the Artwork and put it into a folder while keeping the Art in the files embedded. Thanks!

Are you trying to say you want to use your album artwork as your screensaver? This is very easy to do & you don't have to do anything in the way of extracting artwork, etc. On your Mac, open system preferences>desktop/screensaver, click on the screensaver tab at the top. Once there, in the left hand pane, click on the drop down arrow next to Apple, & choose album artwork from that list. I have my album artwork setup as my screensaver using these settings & it works beautifully, didn't have to do anything with the stored files.

  • Album artwork does not change when switching tv seasons

With the new iTunes 11, television seasons are now grouped together.  When switching the view from one season to the next, the artwork doesn't change, it remains on the first season.  Is there a way to fix this so that the proper artwork is displayed for the proper season?

This manual process DOES work to add and save my album artwork. Unfortunately, this is a long process for over 9,000 songs.
I do not have an Album Artwork folder, but I do have an unknown Album Artwork file, not folder, any thoughts on this? One thing to consider for my situation is two things:
    1. To separate my music files from my regular files, I keep my music files on the D:, away from my Itunes folder on my C:
    2. To conserve space, I do not allow Itunes to make a copy of my files on my C:
Could either or both of these issues be the source of my problem? Should I remove Itunes and it's contents and reload the software and start from scratch?

  • Album Artwork Folder Question

    Hello.
I have iTunes set to have all of my music files on an external harddrive. I also use Backup to backup my iTunes settings to my Dot Mac account. I've noticed that I am routinely running out of space on my backup folder and decided to see what was going on. I discovered the "Album Artwork" folder on my local harddrive and realized that it was over 300 MB in size and that this was the problem.
I have searched through the forum and saw that people recommended using Doug's "Embed Artwork" AppleScript. Before I install the script I just wanted to find out if after running it the files in the "Album Artwork" folder will be deleted or if I will have to delete them manually after running the script.
    Thanks.
    PowerBook G4/1.67GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You can use the script from Doug, but if you're tight on space, that won't help in your situation.
Instead of only one picture for an entire album, a picture will be embedded in every track of that album.
Every track with embedded artwork will increase in size, consuming a lot more space in total than a picture stored in the 'Album Artwork' folder.
Once the picture is embedded in all associated files, iTunes should remove the one in the 'Download' folder, but in my experience doesn't always do that.
You might also take a look inside the 'Album Artwork' folder.
The 'Download' folder contains the artwork downloaded from the 'iTunes Store'.
The 'Local' folder contains the pictures which are used for the 'Cover Flow' feature. These are duplicates of other pictures and stored there for quick access. This folder can be much larger in size than the 'Download' folder. and does not need a backup in my opinion.
If you delete the 'Download' folder, iTunes will create a new one on the next run and store pictures in it again when using 'Cover Flow'.
If you try this, you will notice that it behaves rather sluggish the first time (when you have a lot of embedded artwork), because it has to get all pictures from the music files. iTunes then stores a copy in the 'Local' folder for quick access.

Can I merge or combine 2 "album artwork" folders? I have saved music onto an external server from 2 computers but the artwork that I have manually imported remains in the default folder in the music/itunes/"album artwork" folder on their respective PCs.
i.e. artwork uploaded on one PC won't apppear on the other PC because it is saved locally...
I'm confident that i won't beable to just merge the 2 because thy'll have the same folder names.
On the same note: can I have iTunes create these files on the external server/Hard drive also so that either computer can use them at the same time?
(like I have my library- can the other files be saved remotely)
    Thx

    i'm using iTunes 10 BTW
