Alert category : Alert Rules

hi experts
I have created two Alert category for one Interface (AE n IE). in my scenario there are 4 different inbound idocs so i have to raise an alert when the connectivity between the PI n the external systems are lost. for this to happen should i create four different Alert catogries or is it possible only to cretae 4 different Alert rules for AE n fou different Alert rules for the IE for the first created Alert catogries????
plz help me out
thanx in advance

Hi
>should i create four different Alert catogries or is it possible only to cretae 4 different Alert rules for AE n fou different Alert >rules for the IE for the first created Alert catogries????
Total 4 Alert rules are enough.
At the time of creating the alert rule, if you select the AE it will display only adapter related errors if it is IE then it will display only integration errors. If you mention no restriction then it will display any type of error so at this time 4 alert rules are enough.

I have followed all the steps in the Monitoring setup guide

    HI,
In the Alert Inbox check whether you have confirmed the Alerts which are already generated.
If supress alerts check box is check for alert rules , if the previous alert is not confirmed the next alert wont be triggered.
Check the Report RSALERTPROC and delete the Old alerts.
    Thanks,

  • Transport alert category and alert rule

    Hi,
We are using SAP BASIS 700 (NW2004S SP9). We have created alert category and alert rule in development system. We now want to transport this alert category and alert rule to test system. I have referred to sapnote 913858 but its valid till SAP BASIS 640 and we are using SAP BASIS 700.
Does anybody know how to resolve this issue?
    Regards,

Thank you all you 3 wonderful people, your replies did helped and I am definitely going to reward you with the points..Now I am getting alerts in my alert inbox. Can you also help me with some info on alerts?
    1) What exactly happens when I check and uncheck "Suppress Multiple Alerts of this rule" checkbox while creating alert rule? I have read some documentations for it in sap help website and also in some of the forums but its still very confusing to me. Can you please give me an exact picture of it?
    2) I am unable to get alert emails in my lotus notes. I compared my profile setup in XIJ and XIT using TCode SU01 and found that the PARAMETERS tab had some discrepancies. Can you please confirm if this can be the reason?

  • Alert Rules vs Alert Category - Is there any limitations for multiple rules

I have an alert configuration implemented already and i want to add few more rules for the same alert category.  While creating the rules for new set of scenarios, I am able to create only one rule . Is there any limitations for having the rules per category ?

    Hi,
If the Suppress Multiple Alerts of This Rule checkbox is selected (default setting), then no further alerts are generated once the rule has been met until the first alert has been confirmed.
There is no limitation of creating alert rule for a particular alert category.
Check out the steps of Alert rule configuration.
    Creating Alert Rules
To create an alert rule in which you use a defined alert category, proceed as follows:
           1.      Give the rule a name (Description).
           2.      Select the alert category that you want to use by clicking the corresponding category in the alert category table.
           3.      If necessary, specify conditions for the sender or receiver, or both.
    ○       If your rule results in alerts that must be assigned to a specific message, select the option Yes for the Bound to Message condition.
    ○       If your rule results in alerts that are not assigned to a message, that is, they are caused by errors that occurred before the message was sent, select the option No for the Bound to Message condition.
In this case you cannot enter any further details about the sender or receiver.
    ○       If the rule is to cover both cases, select the Not Relevant option.
           4.      If required, restrict the errors further to:
    ○       Errors reported from the Integration Engine (with or without error category or error code)
    ○       Errors reported from the Adapter Engine (with or without adapter type)
You can enter an asterisk (*) in steps 3 and 4. You can enter just the asterisk, or enter it at the start, end, or start and end of a string.
           5.      To add the new rule to the list of alert rules, choose Add Rule.
If the Rule Activated check box is selected (default setting), the rule is automatically activated when you add it and is displayed as active.
If the Suppress Multiple Alerts of This Rule checkbox is selected (default setting), then no further alerts are generated once the rule has been met until the first alert has been confirmed.
Once you have created a rule, it is automatically displayed in the list of alert rules. If you want to display the conditions of a rule, select a rule in the list and choose Show Conditions.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Multiple alert rules  for alert category?

    Hi,
I have created Alert Categories and assigned Alert Rules for them. <b>Can I assign multiple Alert rules for the same alert category?</b> I mean RTW--> Alert Configuration lets me do it. But when I test it by running report RSALERTTEST, I could get only error for one alert rule, even though I defined multiple alert rules. I haven't tested with real error out scenarios. Any update on this would be helpful.
    Thanx&Regards
    Navin

    Hi Navin,
    1) the report requires authorization object S_XMB_AUTH with area MONCONFIG and activity 02. It's actually part of the standard role SAP_XI_ADMINISTRATOR_ABAP.
    2) sorry, don't know that, but you might want to check SAP Note 913858 for troubleshooting the alerting. it contains the following statement:
<i>Q10: Why are sometimes certain error categories (e.g. SXMS_TO_ADAPTER_ERRTXT) not filled?
A10: This is due to an error in the Business Object Repository when the value of a container variable exceeds 255 characters. Please implement the correction described in note #947738.</i>
    3) You can configure alert rules for the way from the sender to the BPM and from the BPM to the sender. If anything happens in that communication you will get an alert. However as far as i know, the only way to trigger an alert for something that happens within the BPM is by using an according control step.
    Regards
    Christine

    Hi All,
I  have cretaed my alert rule as follow.
    Conditions
Connected To Message ; Not Relavant
           Sender Service   : *
           Sender Interface : Test_OB
           Sender NameSpace   :urn:abc.com

           Reciver Service:*
           Receiver Interface : *

When i tested this alert rule, mails are getting triggered for Integration engine alerts. But when messages fails in adapter engine, i am not getting any alerts/mails at all. Why this happens?
    How should i debug this?

    Check this for troubleshooting: /people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/09/09/xi-alerts--troubleshooting-guide
Also the alert should be raised in Adapter Engine for Test_OB as source interface.

  • Capturing custom error message from alert category

We are using XSLT mapping and We are raising custom error message based upon some conditions i.e if vendor number is invalid or blank. If it doesn't meet the requirement, mapping will fail and it will throw error message as" IDoc XXXXXXXXX is having invalid vendor number".
My question is,we would like to send this custom error message to email receipients through RWB-AFW.
How do we capture this custom error message is alert category or alert rule?

You can not unless u use BPM.

  • BPM : Alert Category : PI 7.1

    HI Experts
I am working on New BPM features of PI 7.1. I configured and BPM Scenario with User decission and now try to work out on Alert Category.
    As per the below blog
Enhancements in ccBPM within SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1
Alert Category can be defined in IR and that Category can be added in RULE from RWB(Alert Config)
The issue is, i am not able to see my Alert Category which is defined in IR in RWB, as the source of Alert in BPM is defined as "Enterprise Services Builder"
    Please let me know..
    Thanks in Advance

Using SLG1, i traced the alert and found that Receipients are not assigned properly.
    Issue solved by this.

  • Alert configuration Add Rule Not Working in IE but working in FireFox

I am running into same issue with the Alert configuration Add Rule being disabled in IE. We're on SP 16. I can create the alert classification and alert categories through ALRTCATDEF.
But through IE, when i go into the Runtime workbench->Alert Configuration, though i can see the alert categories i created, i am not able to select any of them. So the Alert rules "Add Rule" and "Change Rule" are always disabled. How did you fix the issue in IE?
There are two posts about this issue.
alert configuration  add rule  is disabled
    creating rule in alert rwb
The second one post says to that this was working in FireFox and not IE.  Has anyone run into this with IE and then gotten it to work.  We have given all of the necessary roles to the user.
    Thanks,

    Licensed To Code

    Hi Jay Malla,
I am not sure if you might have tried this, but to Add Rule, in your Alert Configuration, you first need to select your Alert Category.
At the bottom , on the left for every ALERT Category, you will find a rectangualr box. When you click on this, your ADD rule button gets enabled.

  • Alert Category in XI

    Hi...
I am doing file to file scenario using BPM. I have created an exception. For that i want to create Alert Category in Xl. Kindly help me out in this by detailed descripition of how to create alert category.

    1. Define Alert Category in ALRTCATDEF
    2. Define Alert Rules in RWB --> Alert Configuration
And depending on the alert rules , if an error occurs in XI, the alert will be triggered.
Read the Blog by Michal and you will get the picture and then let me know if you need any inputs.
    /people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/09/09/xi-alerts--step-by-step
The Alerts in SAP XI can be raised for error happening in:
    1. Adapter Engine
    2. Integration Engine.
    1. These Alerts are system generated in case anything happens in either of the component.
    For this you need to:
    1. Create ALert Category in the Trnasaction ALRTCATDEF
    2. Create Alert rules in Runtime Workbench--> ALert Configuration and associating these rules to Alert category.
If you want you can do it without a BPM
and throw an exception in case any of the values is missing:
have a look at this weblog on how to throw exceptions
    in a nice way:
    /people/alessandro.guarneri/blog/2006/01/26/throwing-smart-exceptions-in-xi-graphical-mapping
Also just go through Raising Exceptions in SAP XI Mapping and see if it helps you solve the problem.

To send an EMAIL, assign an EMAIL ID to the corresponding user in the transaction SU01 and then set up SCOT and you can send emails when the ALERT is triggered..
Once you have configure Alerts, you will get the Alerts into ALERT INBOX in RWB of the user. To also get the email, the following needs to be done,
    1. In SU01 -- Assign the Email ID for the Recipient of the ALERT.
    2. In , RWB>ALERT INBOX> PERSONALIZATION--> Time Independent Delivery and Email are selected.
    3. Finally, SCOT needs to be set up to send Emails. Check this for the same. You can ask your BASIS team to do this step.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/23/1edf098ea211d2b47300609419ed29/frameset.htm
Also, In ALRTCATDEF, go to SETTINGS--> CONFIGURATION. By default, the option selected is INTERNAL PROCESSING. Select the option SMTP FORWARDING AS XML and give the email id. This will enable you to send an email alert whenever an error occurs in XI.

  • Unable to see ALERT Category in RWB- Alert Config

    Hi Experts,
I have created an Alert Category using Transaction ALRTCATDEF.  I followed it as mentioned in Michal's blog.
In Runtime workbench --> Alert Configuration, under Select Alert Category, I am unable to see the Alert Category which I have created.  Only if, I could see this Alert Category, I will be able to select this and Add Rule.  I used filters to search and even tried to click Update Table.  But still unable to see.
Why is it that I am unable to see the Alert Category which I have created.  Basically, I login as PISUPER and created the Alert Category.  Kindly advise.
