is this means when client request connection to database is failed due to i see the monitoring system in sometime
the ping is timeout there is no reply in 2 second 2 packet or 5 in max???

One common cause for Timeout is a Firewall on or between client & DB Server.

  • Cloud Control 12c monitoring Oracle 11g Standard Edition alert.log

    Hi guys.
I just installed Cloud Control 12c3 and added my cluster database, I have readed many papers, tech docs and tech discuss and now i have a huge confussion about packs, licensing and other fruits. Please help...
I have four Oracle 11g databases (differents hosts) Standard Edition, and i want monitoring and notificate alert.log errors. For example, if alert.log says "ORA-01438, blablabla" i want a email notification.
I read about packs, and says that "diagnostic pack" is needed for alert.log monitoring in Cloud Control 12c. But my version database is Standard Edition without packs, so I CAN'T MONITORING ALERT LOG!!!.
    Question:
Do I really need Diagnostic Pack for monitoring alert.log with Cloud Control?
If Diagnostinc Pack is not necessary, how can i monitoring alert.log?
    Thanks

I do not think you require any pack for alert.log content monitoring but you might need to check with Oracle rep. I am saying so because if you go to the "Alert log content" page and click on management pack for this page, Grid will display a message that this page does not require any pack.
Go to the Alert log content by "oracle database -> logs -> alert log contents"
    then
go to SETUP -> management packs -> packs for this page
You will see the message will be displayed " this pages does not require any pack"
Can you also provide the doc where it says that this pae needs diagnostic pack?

  • 11g new feature (alert log rotation)customization

    Hi All,
i cann see on my ora 11g db , whenever the alert_log go more than 11M
    it rotate it to
    log_1.xml then
    log_2.xml
any way to chneg the number from 11M to say 20M
and control the deletion policy , like only keep last 5 logs
i investigated the adrci , but can't find a command to do that
    Thanks

In docs it's said like this:
Controlling the Size of Trace Files
You can control the maximum size of all trace files (excluding the alert log) using the
initialization parameter MAX_DUMP_FILE_SIZE, which limits the file to the specified
number of operating system blocks. To control the size of an alert log, you must
manually delete the file when you no longer need it. Otherwise the database continues
    to append to the file.
You can safely delete the alert log while the instance is running, although you should
consider making an archived copy of it first. This archived copy could prove valuable
if you should have a future problem that requires investigating the history of an
    instance.

  • 11g Alert Log

    Hi,
I have installed a new 11g DB and on my EM page I cannot get the alert log to display content.
I know this is now stored in new dest /oracle/product/diag/rdbms/rcat11g/trace along with a XML.LOG.
What parm would I need to config to show alert log in EM console ?
    Would I need to set diagnostic_dest= ?
    Thanks

Would I need to set diagnostic_dest= ? If not set the default location is taken:

  • ORA-01033 Error cannot be traced in the alert log or v$views

    Hello There,
I'm hoping you can shed some light on what seems a rather odd occurrence on our Production Oracle Instance.
Before i elaborate on the nature of the problem, I must confess that i am not an Oracle DBA and have been compelled to post this query since i have no joy from the in house DBA community on the origins of this error.
We've had an ORA-01033 error being issued by our ETL installation (deployed on a Linux machine) a couple of days ago whence trying to extract some data from the Oracle instance (during overnight DataWarehouse loads) which has consequently aborted the loads necessitating a cleanup.
This event has already occurred twice before, the first time being a month ago when the event was captured in the v$instance (using the Startup time column where the timestamp corroborates to the first time we experienced this issue and also ackowledged by the DBA team) and also in the V$Dataguard_status.
Since then, This error has been generated twice although there seems to be no evidence of this in either the Oracle alert log(as confirmed by DBA team) or in any of the v$views (as pointed out by Tom in an earlier post) such as DBA_LOGSTDBY_HISTORY, v$logstdby_state, $logstdby_stats, dba_logstdby_log, dba_logstdby_events,v$dataguard_status, v$dataguard_stats, v$dataguard_config,v$database,v$database_incarnation, v$managed_standby, v$standby_log, v$instance. I searched these views since i suspected a latency issue during a failover which could be the reason for the
    ORA-01033 but found nothing.
The DBA team have pretty much disowned this issue since they claim to not have any actual evidence of this from the logs and this is the crux of the matter here.
The Problem i have as the downstream "recepient" of this error is to prove to the DBA team that this is indeed a genuine issue with the Oracle instance affecting it's availability and concomittantly affecting the DW loads.
FYI, The Oracle instance is in Failover mode, so it's swiftly back online after bombing out for a few seconds.
Also, I don't have access to the Alert log as it's a Production environment and employs restricted access policy to the server.
Having said that, Is there anything else besides the obvious ORA errors that should be looked for in the Alert log?
Where else can ORA-01033 errors be traced/traced in the Dictionary besides the Alert Log?
    Thoughts??
    Regards

Thank You John for that query, but i'm on V10.2 and this view is relevant for 11g and beyond i believe.
Perhaps there is an equivalent for V10g?
I am also a bit bemused by the comment earlier about no trace being left behind if the DBA's performed a manual restart, surely it doesn't matter how the DB is restarted, the event is captured in the dictionary?
In the meantime, I've got a copy of the Alert log and have found redo log issues (DBWR/LGWR) very close to the time (a min after ORA-01033) of the shutdown event.
    ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG
Thread 1 cannot allocate new log, sequence 117732
    Checkpoint not complete
I've looked into this a fair bit and this error apparently causes Oracle to suspend all processing on the database until the log switch is made.
Is this the causal link for my issue?
Does " suspend all processing on the database " actually translate into an actual ORA-01033 error (or some form of) when the ETL application is trying to connect to and extract data from the Oracle database at that time?

  • Need to find the way to get the actual error message in the alert log.

    Hi,
I have configured OEM 11G and monitoring target versions are from 9i to 11g. Now my problem is i have defined the metrics for monitoring the alert log contents and OEM is sending alert if there is any error in the alert log but it is not showing the actual error message just it is showing as below.
    ============================
    Target Name=IDMPRD
    Target type=Database Instance
    Host=oidmprd01.ho.abc.com
    Occurred At=Dec 21, 2011 12:05:21 AM GMT+03:00
Message=1 distinct types of ORA- errors have been found in the alert log.
    Metric=Generic Alert Log Error Status
    Metric value=1
    Severity=Warning
    Acknowledged=No
    Notification Rule Name=RULE_4_PROD_DATABASES
    Notification Rule Owner=SYSMAN
    ============================
Is there any way to get the complete error details in the OEM alert itself.
    Regards
    DBA.

You need to look at the Alert Log error messages, not the "status" messages. See doc http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11857_01/em.111/e16285/oracle_database.htm#autoId2

  • Alert log.xml or alert.log errors do not appear in EM

Little puzzled here. Using 11.1.0.6 to test if alert errors will appear on 11.1.0.1 EM Grid pages. Simple ORA-1653 triggered via sql insert and then waited and waited. Nothing. I can use EM to open log file and to display the errors but no alerts are flagged on any of the pages.
    Is this a another bug?

You can read all about how the 11g alert log is monitored in: Monitoring 11g Database Alert Log Errors in Enterprise Manager [ID 949858.1]
Yes, it describes some bugs (and workarounds) too.

  • DG Observer triggering SIGSEGV Address not mapped to object errors in alert log

    Hi,
I've got a Data Guard configuration using two 11.2.0.3 single instance databases.  The configuration has been configured for automatic failover and I have an observer running on a separate box.
This fast-start failover configuration has been in place for about a month and in the last week, numerous SEGSEGV (address not mapped to object) errors are reported in the alert log.  This is happening quite frequently (every 4/5 minutes or so).
The corresponding trace files show the process triggering the error coming from the observer.
Has anyone experienced this problem?  I'm at my wits end trying to figure out how to fix the configuration to eliminate this error.
I must also note that even though this error is occurring a lot, it doesn't seem to be affecting any of the database functionality.
    Help?
    Thanks in advance.
    Beth

Hi..   The following is the alert log message, the traced file generated, and the current values of the data guard configuration.  In addition, as part of my research, I attempted to apply patch 12615660 which did not take care of the issue.  I also set the inbound_connection_timeout parameter to 0 and that didn't help either.  I'm still researching but any pointer in the right direction is very much appreciated.

  • If alert log is deleted, how to restore it?

    Hi,
I want to know if Alert log is deleted, how to restore it?

RMAN does not backup the alertlog, only an OS filesystem backup does this. In 11g and higher there are 2 versions of the alertlog, the well-known textfile and now additionally a file in xml format. IF only the text version is lost, command line utility adrci can still access the xml file:

  • Logical data corrupton in alert log

Thanks for taking my question! I am hoping someone can help me because I am really in a bind. I had some issues restoring my database the other day. I thought I recovered everything but now I am seeing more errors in the alert log and I have no idea how what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciate!!!!!
I listed alert log errors at the end and I am 11g windows 2008 .
My first mistake was stop archive logging while a large job ran to save some time.
After the job completed I restarted the archive logging and then backed up the database and took an scn.
I then recovered back to the scn above and it appeared to go ok excetp I then noticed I had (2) v%database_block_corruptions.
I then decided to recover back several days and restore an the prd schema via an export takien before 1st restor.
I changed the incarniation back 1 and recovered and imported schema back.
I checheck v$database_block_corruption and it as empty. I am thinking ai am good.
I restart several batch jobs which finished ok.
I backup and it is good.
I now have the below logical errors in the alert log. They appeared inbetween the nightly rman backup and export.
Help! What is causing this and how do I fix it?

If the index is part of EM why wait? How many EM users can you have? It should just be the DBA's.
Being the object is a PK there could be FK that references it. If there are FK to the PK I would try the alter index rebuild to see if that 1- works and 2- fixes the issue before I resorted to drop/create since the rebuild can be done without having to disable and re-enable the FK.
Also note that under certain conditions such as if the index status is INVALID the alter index rebuild will read the table rather than just read the index for its data.
