All 8 cores working full power

In my video editing software I can set it in such way, that all my 8 cores work full power.
I have the activation monitor enabled and can see the processing. Since all 8 cores are running at full power (all bars are up to the top) for a quite some time, I wonder, if the CPUs could overhead? Since I have no more warranty, I don't want to take the risk of needing the logic board replaced because of that.
But on the other hand, I need to get my videos out as fast as possible.

Unless you already have a hardware fault, there's no danger of overheating. If the fans can't keep the CPU temperatures within the safe range, then the SMC will throttle them back and eventually shut down the system, if necessary.

Can I still open and work in Freehand on this new Mac?

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.

  • Scratch disk is full on Photoshop CS6 but I can't close Photoshop as I would lose all of the work I've done.

I've been working on a drawing for awhile and a little error message popped up saying my scratch disks are full. I've tried multiple things but I apparently need to restart Photoshop for those things to kick in. I can't restart it as almost all of my work will be gone. Any help is appreciated.

You can purge the swap files etc. from the Edit menu. Try that. Otherwise there is simply no way to salvage the situation once PS runs out of memory, virtual and real one...

  • All button and touch pad not working except power button

I face the problems that all button and touch pad not working after power on or wake up from sleep state except power button. And i have make the system sleep and wake again so that the mac book air can working as normal( mouse can move and button got response).

Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly.  Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then we'll move to the next step.
    To Perform A Hard Reset
Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds); (if the computer doesn't power on, move to the next step)
Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.
Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.
Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.
Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

  • Mac Pro 3.1 eight core FCP 6 shows all 8 cores rendering??

I just got a Mac Pro early 2008 3.1 with eight cores...running Leopard 10.5.8   I've read on this forum at times that FCP does not use more than 4 cores when rendering.  But when I render 1080p pro res 442 in FCP 6 all eight cores run up over 90%, and it does indeed render almost three times as fast as my Power Mac g5 Quad.  So I'm just curious why FCP is actually using all 8 cores.  Any help is appreciated, as always.

You are confusing cores with RAM.
FCP is a 32bit app. This means it can not make use of more than 4 GB of Ram (2.5 GB for the program and 1.5 for the frameworks).
FCP will use all the cores in a machine, how MUCH they are used, depends on a lot of factors - including the version of OSX you are runnning.
10.6.8 (snow leop) has a full 64 bit mode that will do a better job of allocating system resources to 32 bit tasks than 10.5. I ran 10.6.8 set to boot into 64 bit mode along with FCP 7 for a long time with great performance. If I hadn't needed 10.8 for other software, I'd still be running 10.6.8.

  • Where to find a USB "full power" male/female cable?

Last year i got an ElGato Turbo h.264 usb stick. It speeds up encoding. It needs to use the full power USB port so it won't work connecting it to your keyboard. ElGato included a "full power" male/female cable so the user doesn't have to reach behind the iMac all the time to plug the usb stick in and out.
Does anyone know where to buy cables like this? I don't need a powered usb hub. Just a cable.

  • HT201401 What causes the iPhone 4S to shut down to a black screen when it has full power?

What causes the iPhone 4S to shut down to a black screen when it has full power? I have cleared the open icons and it works for one day then shuts down again.

Software hiccup, glitch or maybe faulty battery. Restore iPhone with iTunes on computer. See if this helps. If still problem that you think is serious enough to fix, all iPhone 4S have full Warranty. Make Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution.

Right people, I really hope you can help... here's the story:
I produce with a friend and approx 4 months ago we both upgraded to brand new MacBook Pro's each and Logic Pro 9 each.
I bought a 13" MacBook Pro with 4GB and the 2.53Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
He bought a 15" MacBook Pro with 4GB and the 2.66Ghz Intel Core i7 processor.
We both have bought the full version of Logic Pro 9, both done the upgrade to 9.1 and have both set our copies of Logic to 64 bit.
Why? The only advantage you have from 64 bit is that Logic can use more than 4 GB RAM - which neither of you have. I would strongly recommend setting Logic to 32 bit. On both Books. It might alleviate some or even all the problems - I hope.
Here's a list of unavailable features in 64 bit mode:

My friends copy of Logic on his Mac is so buggy its sometimes unusable.
My mate is about to throw the **** thing out of the window and buy Cubase!
More often than not it is hard to install new software on computers that have been thrown about.
Can anyone shed any light please??
I think 32 bit is your answer. However, the mobile i7 processor does at least have one issue with Logic:

  • TS3276 hi after updating to Mountain Lion, it becomes difficult to quit Mail, always have to Force Quit. And while Mail is on standby, the fan keeps on running full power, the laptop is hot. Why is this happening?

hi after updating to Mountain Lion, it becomes difficult to quit Mail, always have to Force Quit. And while Mail is on standby, the fan keeps on running full power, the laptop is hot. Why is this happening?

If your computer was hot it wasn't asleep - it either didn't go to sleep or it work up after you put it to sleep. I've seen both things happen. First, read this article and follow the instructions.
    1) For the next few days/weeks pay attention to the blinking light on the front of your computer when you close the lid. Don't put the computer into your backpack/case until it begins to blink. Wait a minute or so after it starts to blink to make sure it doesn't stop blinking - the signal it woke back up.
    2) having followed the above instructions, if you take the computer out and it is hot again or if you take it out and discover it has powered down (you'll know this because when it starts up the battery will be drained and you'll see a progress bar over a ghostly display that will eventually become normal) immediately start the Console program and perform a search on 'sleep' and then 'wake'. This should bring up all the recent log files about sleep state changes (going to sleep and waking up). You should see one for when you put the computer to sleep and put it away and the next one should be just after you got it out. You'll find at least one though that shouldn't be there. That will tell you when the computer work up (when it shouldn't have) and might give a clue as to why.
One of the whys could be a magnet that is making the computer think the lid has been opened.

  • Will iOS6 bring the full power of Siri to the UK

When are we going to see apple bring the full power of Siri to the UK.  I really like the voice interface on my iPhone (when it works) but it is pretty useless to us here in the UK as we only have access to a stripped down version.  Also, will iOS6 see apple finally introduce English Language support (I know they claim it already exists, but anyone from the UK who has tried to use Siri, knows this to be a lie)

You've got to be realistic. Surely you know that the UK has some of the most diverse regional accents and dialects of any country in the world?
Even native English speakers have trouble understanding some regional British accents and meanings for locally used words. Remember you're talking to a computer. Even the level of understanding it offers right now is pretty amazing for a computer. Natural language recognition is incredibly hard.
It will get better with time, as Apple analyses all the accents and words spoken into Siri everyday.
You've just got to be realistic with your expectations and the current "state-of-the-art". Just a few years ago, stuff that Siri can do was only in the realm of science fiction movies. Now, you've got it in a mobile phone for a few hundred quid.

  • Tecra A8 - no max CPU speed under PowerSaver's "full power" profile

    Hi Everyone,
My Tecra A8-S8514 (Core 2 Duo T7200 @ 2GHz) has this problem: when I set the PowerSaver profile to "Full Power" the CPU sets its speed to 1.4GHz.
My company bought 2 of A8's and the test was replicated in the second laptop, which leads me to believe there's a bug with the PowerSaver application instead of bad hardware.
The Toshiba phone support ignore the fact that 2 laptops have the same problem, insisted I should do a system restore and if that didn't fix the problem take it to a service center. There was no way the "experts" would admit the application could be wrong and submit a request to the programmers so they can test and engineer a fix.
Please can someone else with a Tecra A8-S8514 test this? I used the Intel Processor ID Utility and a free benchmark called GeekBench.
    Thanks in advance!!!!

Hi, and thanks for your reply!
My CPU settings are set to "Dynamically Switchable" and the help file explains that this setting lets PowerSaver control the CPU frequency, so that's not part of the problem.
I see buggy software being released all the time and frequently wreaking havoc and causing chaos before the developers/publishers notice and take measures.
If Excel 2007 can't multiply correctly, PowerSaver can very well mismanage my laptop's CPU power, and I bet you Excel 2007 was tested more thoroughly than PowerSaver.
Like I said, I have 2 identical Tecra A8s and have replicated this issue on both. Do you have a Tecra A8-S8514 and have tested this?
Take a look at these screenshots, since they help illustrate the problem:

  • Is there a way to force for rendering ALL clips in work area?

Is there a way to force for rendering ALL clips in work area? All clips: not only the ones with the red horizontal line indicating that they need rendering! I ask for this because the rendered clips preview very smoothly, but the unrendered ones do not! My source footage (and project) involves Full HD (1920*1080i 25fps).

If a Clip does not need Rendering, it will not be Rendered.
Basically, what Rendering does is to convert the Clips, that do require Rendering, to DV-AVI (SD Projects on a PC). This will yield AVI files in the Media Cache, Render Files, and for playback, PrE will rely on those. If you look in the Render File folder, you will see a bunch of abstractly named files, but those files are now Linked in the PREL (Project file), and will be used by the program for playback.
If one were to remove those Render files, and then Open that Project in PrE, they'd receive a message, "Where is file 04u434ip0ow.AVI?" [Note: that is just an example of the abstract Render file name, and is not the actual name, that one would see.]. One could Ignore those now missing Render files, and where they were used, there would then be red lines over those Clips.
As Steve mentions, the Render files are used only for smoothest playback. As I use DV-AVI files for SD Projects on my PC, I will not need to Render for smoothest playback, until I make changes to the Clips, like overlay Titles, PiP, Effects, etc.. I might never Render the Timeline, even with those additions, but sometimes, I will Render a small segment many times, especially with animated Effects, as I adjust the parameters.
If one is not getting the smoothest playback, then Rendering all files requiring Rendering will usually improve playback greatly.
Good luck, and hope that this makes sense.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
