All data taken on device by ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

So, I recently updated my iTunes and my iPod Touch 5th Generation.. this is my first time syncing it since updating either device. My laptop, which is a windows and it is quite old, wouldn't let me sync any new music and erased most of what was already there because it somehow took up 26.9GB that was free space still on my iPod (64GB) with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. In the iTunes library the memory that has been taken up is in the category of "Other" and I am unable to view what is there to delete it.... I have no clue what to do to fix it, I am considering restoring my iPod but a number of photos and videos may bot be backed up yet and I can't put them on the laptop because it doesn't see the iPod in the computer libraries for me to put in pictures and videos for some reason; also, I have an app I use for texting people and there are conversations I really don't want to be deleted and I fear that if I restore my iPod those conversations will be gone. Has anyone else experienced this? How do I fix this??

  • If passcode actived, is all data on the device encrypted?

    Hi,
is the data stored on an iPad/iPhone encrypted?
I assume that the iPad/iPhone has an advanced passcode (not just the 4-digit code).
So my question is if data that my custom app stores in the device is encrypted or not (if no special methods are taken in the source code of the app).
Would an attacker be able to read the data? What if he jailbreaks the device?
    Thanks!

  • HT201210 the iPhone 4 will not connect through iTunes and has extracted all data from the device

It seems like this could be an issue with the device.  IT will not connect long enough to extract the data.

  • Is all data on the iPhone encrypted? Conflicting sources.

This page claims that data on the iPhone (running iOS greater than v4) is entirely encrypted: http://images.apple.com/iphone/business/docs/iPhone_Security.pdf
From page 3 of the PDF
    <quote>
iPhone 3GS and new devices offer hardware-based encryption. iPhone hardware encryption uses AES 256-bit encoding to protect all data on the device. Encryption is always enabled, and cannot be disabled by users.
    </quote>
However, if an iPhone running iOS 4 and using data encryption were to be jail broken (which does not require the passcode to perform) the user would then have direct access to all of the data on the device in an unencrypted state. Surely, the jail break process that takes mere minutes is not decrypting the entire iOS disk.
*So is all the data on the device really encrypted or did the marketing department make a mistake?*
Also, this page seems to suggest that only emails and their attachments are encrypted: http://www.apple.com/iphone/business/integration/
    <quote>
To protect all data at rest, iPhone features built-in hardware encryption using AES 256-bit encoding. Building on the hardware encryption capabilities of iPhone, email messages and attachments stored on the device can be further secured by using Data Protection. Data Protection uses a user’s device passcode to generate a strong encryption key. This key prevents data from being accessed when the device is locked, ensuring that critical information is secured even if the device is compromised.
    </quote>
*So can someone definitively answer whether or not all of the data on the iPhone is encrypted or not?*
My co-worker seems to think that all of the data on the iPhone is encrypted, but I'm calling shenanigans. There is no way the entire iPhone disk could be encrypted if people who jail break their phones can access the entire unencrypted disk in minutes.

Ha Ha, thank you sir for seeing the forest for the trees. God forbid someone compare the all mighty apple geniuses to mere best buy employees. 'Genius' is in their job title, it's not what they are. And it's a rather pompous moniker if you ask me.
Really I have to apologize for this thread, I came here expecting real answers from people who understand the flaws in the operating systems and hardware, but it's rather apparent that even if there are answers to be found here, they are shrouded behind disbelief by apple fan boys (and girls).
I'll just chalk the answers in this thread up with some of the other fine answers I gotten from apple fan boys and 'Geniuses':
"Why can't I cut and paste files and folders in Finder?"
"WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THAT??? JUST DRAG AND DROP!!"
    "Sigh."
"Why doesn't Finder in OS X merge folders like every other modern OS?"
    "Have you tried Forklift??!!"
"So... I'm expected to replace the core file handler in an awful hack to get functionality we've had for 15 years in other OSes AND pay money for it?"
"You sound like a windows user."
"I use all OSes, Linux more often, and they all have flaws. I was just pointing out one in OS X..."
"Why don't you go back to Windows?!!"
I hope everyone enjoys the kool-aid.

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • Me and my partner are currently using the same apple id and have no space left on our devices. We are currently waiting on the iphone 6 plus to arrive and don't know how to transfer all data to the new phones.

Me and my partner are currently using the same apple id and have no space left on our devices. We are currently waiting on the iphone 6 plus to arrive and don't know how to transfer all data to the new phones.?

I don't know if I'm asking this all in a way that can be understood? Thanks ED3K, however that part I do understand (in the link you provided!)
What I need to know is "how" I can separate or rather create another Apple ID for my son-who is currently using "my Apple ID?" If there is a way to let him keep "all" his info on his phone (eg-contacts, music, app's, etc.) without doing a "reset?') Somehow I need to go into his phone's setting-create a new Apple ID and possibly a new password so he can still use our combined iCloud & Itunes account?
Also then letting me take back my Apple ID & password, but again allowing us (my son and I) to use the same iCloud & Itunes account? Does that make more sense??? I'm sincerely trying to get this cleared up once and for all----just need guidance from someone who has a true understanding of the whole Apple iCloud/Itunes system!
Thanks again for "anyone" that can help me!!!

  • I have multiple devices backed up to the same computer each with different data. how do i keep them from syncing all data when i back up or transfer stuff from the computer to a device?

i have multiple devices backed up to the same computer each with different data. how do i keep them from syncing all data when i back up or transfer stuff from the computer to a device? one is an iphone 6 and the others are ipad mini first gens, each ipad has 64gb and the iphone has 128, need to keep the data seperate as they are not all mine

Itunes content and pics are NOT part of the backup that itunes performs.
Backing up, updating, and restoring iPad, iPod touch, and iPhone software
You should transfer any purchases from iphone regularly:  File>Transfer Purchases  , if they fail to be transferred when you sync.
You buy one and only one download.  It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your purchases.
You can try contacting itunes support and asking for an exception, but they are under no obligation to allow.

How do I use my I cloud account to save all my data no my device? I purchase $ 100 dollars deal because my phone memory was almost full.

If you're asking if there is a way to add memory to your device, there isn't.  iOS devices have a fixed capacity that can't be expanded by using expansion cards or other hardware solutions.
If you're running out of capacity on your devices, the only solution is to store less on your phone.  You can import your photos and videos to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083, then delete it from your device.  If you still want some of the photos on your device, put them in a folder on your computer then select the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and sync your device.
You can also sync only some of your music to your device rather than your entire library, or subscribe to iTunes Match and stream it from iCloud.  You can also not keep as many movies, tv shows and other media on your device.

  • I have a production mobile Flex app that uses RemoteObject calls for all data access, and it's working well, except for a new remote call I just added that only fails when running with a release build.  The same call works fine when running on the device

I have a production mobile Flex app that uses RemoteObject calls for all data access, and it's working well, except for a new remote call I just added that only fails when running with a release build. The same call works fine when running on the device (iPhone) using debug build. When running with a release build, the result handler is never called (nor is the fault handler called). Viewing the BlazeDS logs in debug mode, the call is received and send back with data. I've narrowed it down to what seems to be a data size issue.
I have targeted one specific data call that returns in the String value a string length of 44kb, which fails in the release build (result or fault handler never called), but the result handler is called as expected in debug build. When I do not populate the String value (in server side Java code) on the object (just set it empty string), the result handler is then called, and the object is returned (release build).
The custom object being returned in the call is a very a simple object, with getters/setters for simple types boolean, int, String, and one org.23c.dom.Document type. This same object type is used on other other RemoteObject calls (different data) and works fine (release and debug builds). I originally was returning as a Document, but, just to make sure this wasn't the problem, changed the value to be returned to a String, just to rule out XML/Dom issues in serialization.
I don't understand 1) why the release build vs. debug build behavior is different for a RemoteObject call, 2) why the calls work in debug build when sending over a somewhat large (but, not unreasonable) amount of data in a String object, but not in release build.
I have't tried to find out exactly where the failure point in size is, but, not sure that's even relevant, since 44kb isn't an unreasonable size to expect.
By turning on the Debug mode in BlazeDS, I can see the object and it's attributes being serialized and everything looks good there. The calls are received and processed appropriately in BlazeDS for both debug and release build testing.
Anyone have an idea on other things to try to debug/resolve this?
Platform testing is BlazeDS 4, Flashbuilder 4.7, Websphere 8 server, iPhone (iOS 7.1.2). Tried using multiple Flex SDK's 4.12 to the latest 4.13, with no change in behavior.
    Thanks!

After a week's worth of debugging, I found the issue.
The Java type returned from the call was defined as ArrayList.  Changing it to List resolved the problem.
I'm not sure why ArrayList isn't a valid return type, I've been looking at the Adobe docs, and still can't see why this isn't valid.  And, why it works in Debug mode and not in Release build is even stranger.  Maybe someone can shed some light on the logic here to me.

have iphone 3gs v 4,2.1 i want to upgrade to ios 5 i will erase all data, how can i install again the software, and now my device can not  be detect to my computer? what can i do? please help me..

You can not install iOS 5. It is no longer signed by Apple. You can only install the current version of iOS. For a 3GS, that's 6.1.3.
However... if you have 4.2.1 on your phone, odds are it is not a 3GS, it is a 3G. If that's the case, you've reached the end of the road for that. It can not run anything higher than 4.2.1.

Never mind, got it to work. I stumbled around on Google for a while and somehow ended up reading things from the 'jailbroken' community. They had easy instructions to get out of Recovery mode. Thanks anyway though!
P.S. For anyone who experiences this, here is the fix: Hold Power and Home in unison for 6 seconds, then power on as normal.

I can help you for the future.  Regularly back up your computer to an external hard drive (or cloud alternative).  If you have your library backed up, it could be reinstalled on your new computer.  In your current situation, you will have to reload all of your CDs as syncing of non-iTunes purchased music is only one way (Computer to iPod)
