Alsa Primary Sound Card Only Outputting Left Ear

When setting up my .asoundrc so my defaults were correct with my mic. Alsa got to thinking that my soundcard is only mono(or my sound card broke). Even with the .asoundrc asking for 2 channels it still only outputs the left ear. The sound was working perfectly fine before this and now refuses to go back even with the same .asoundrc as before.
I have tested and made sure that the cable or my mixer is not at fault. My other sound card in my computer still functions in stereo.

What model of CA0106 are you using? According to http://alsa.opensrc.org/Ca0106 there are 3 different models. You can look up your default alsa configuration devices with:
less /usr/share/alsa/cards/CA0106.conf
There may be some differences with default bindings with different models. Check if there are any hardware switches/paths configured:
alsamixer
and hit F5.
Your .asoundrc does not seem to be ok. Try something like this:
pcm.!default { type plug;
slave.pcm "ca0106"; }
pcm.ca0106 { type asym;
playback.pcm "dmix";
capture.pcm "cap"; }
pcm.dmix { type dmix;
ipc_key 1024;
slave { pcm { type hw;
card CA0106;
rate 44100;
period_time 0;
period_size 1024;
buffer_size 8192;
channels 2; } }
pcm.cap { type hw;
card CA0106;
#Change to correct device or delete next line
device 0; }
ctl.!default { type hw;
card CA0106; }
I left bindings out, so alsa can default, but if nothing happens, try:
pcm.dmix { type dmix;
ipc_key 1024;
slave { pcm { type hw;
card CA0106;
rate 44100;
period_time 0;
period_size 1024;
buffer_size 8192;
channels 2; }
bindings { 0 0;
0 1; } }
instead.
You can also set rate to 192000 if your model supports it, the type plug plugin takes care of making any stream compatible to it.
I am a bit rusty on alsa configuration, since I have done mine a very long time ago, you may want to check it for some hints http://pastebin.com/sG3kuPLu.
Edit: The formatting may not display closing brackets }, but they are there. Copy the whole code.

  • How can I record what the sound card is outputting?

    I have an app. that I need to be able to capture what the

    from the sound card.  I don't want to
    have to route the speaker out to the mic in.  Is there a way to

    Thanks

    As I understand you would like to record the sound (wave, midi, others...) generated by a third party application without a cable loop between soundcard output and any soundcard input (mic, line, aux).
    Have you already tried to set the record input on the recording control panel of Windows to stereo mix and to use any standard labview vi (eg: snd read waveform) for recording?

  • Macbook Pro - speaker socket only outputting left audio

    I have recently noticed that my MacBook Pro is only outputting audio to my left sided speaker. The following are the steps I have already taken to troubleshoot:
    Plugged my iPod into the speakers and both (left and right) speakers work perfectly
    Plugged two separate sets of headphones into the speaker socket on my MacBook and on both occasions I am only getting audio out of the left headphone
    Checked the output sound settings (System Preferences>Sound>Output) and the balance slider is set to the central position.
    The MacBook Pro is around 4 years old and operates of OS X 10.8.2.
    Any further trouble shooting suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    James

    Playing games will usually cause the computer to get very hot, and the longer you play the hotter it gets. To deal with this the fans ramp up eventually having to run at full speed to try and cool the computer. If the computer is not adequately ventilated and/or is used in a hot environment, then there's a potential for a thermal shutdown.
    Obviously, heat is not in the best interest of your speakers.

  • MacBook Pro plays music only in left ear bud

    My macbook only plays music in the left ear bud. It does so with different earphones, I have tried 3 and the same problem occurs everytime. The weird thing is, when I test it on Audio preferences, the sounds works fine. System sounds, like the alarm or a new message sound, I hear them in both. But when I play a  movie, a video on youtube or just music in iTunes the music is mainly on the left side, on the right one it is very soft. What is wrong?

    To rule out a software problem try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
    If you still have the problem then it is likely that the headphone jack is defective.

  • ITunes only outputting left channel through Soundsticks

    I've been using the original Harman Kardon Soundsticks (USB type) for about six years now without problems, but just today they've started behaving oddly in iTunes and Front Row. Only the left channel is now output, through BOTH speakers. They work normally when I use the Quicktime player, but not iTunes/FR. If I switch the output to internal speakers, then iTunes outputs both channels normally. I tried deleting the preferences, and updating iTunes to 8.01 from 8.0 but without any difference. Have also tried rebooting, disconnecting and reconnecting the speakers, and the power to the speakers but nothing seems to make any difference. Additionally, there's no "balance" option in System Preferences for USB speakers.
    There clearly isn't anything physically wrong with the speakers themselves so can only assume there must be a corrupted preference file or similar, but have no idea where to start looking. Can anybody help?

    I have the exact same problem but I use Windows vista into a MOTU Ultralite Firewire interface outputting to some powered monitor speakers. I know the issue has got to be with iTunes because i can open the mp3 in windows media palyer and it plays just fine in proper stereo. It's really annoying and I cant seem to find the solution.

  • Vocals on M-audio fasttrack panned all the way to left (only in left ear)

    I record vocals using an m-audio fasttrack. When i listen back to the vocals they only play in the left ear, in other words, they are panned all the way to the left. When i turn the pan knob all the way to the right, i can't hear the vocals, and when i turn it back to the middle, it only plays in the left ear again.
    anybody know the problem?

  • Left and right channels of stereo sound coming only from left spea

    The title says it all. I can't figure out what's wrong. I checked all the settings I can think of, but nothing seems out of place. It's not the right channel cutting out, but both channels coming from the left speaker (I used the speaker test feature to confirm this). This just happened out of nowhere when I booted up my pc. Any idea what's wrong?
    *Oh, and this is an Audigy 2 (plain version).Message Edited by Geise on 2-3-2005 : PM

    Did you ever fix this problem? I have the exact same thing happening to my sound.
    All the sound comes from the left in stereo sound. I plugged the green stereo analog speakers into the other pin the blackone for 4. setting on my SBLi've24 allthe others play fron t left back left and back right but the front right is so soft like a whisper.
    So the speakers work. Im running a Xp mediaedition system. It happened after an apparent sound conflict that made an electronic popping sound which got progressi'vely worse until i figured out how to reset the car d in the Bios level. I have done evrything but reformat the hard dri've All tests say the hardware is working but still no front right channel. Help please

  • Analog to digital: sound is only in left speaker, but I want it in both

    I converted an old VHS tape to digital with my digital camcorder and imported it to iMovie. However, the VCR only had one audio output, not two for Right and Left. I tapped into the left (as I could only do one or the other).
    Now, all my sound only comes through the left channel. I know the video will not be stereo, but is there a way I can get sound through the left and right channels?
    Mac Mini
    Mac Mini

    Hmmm, I'm afraid this may be a lost cause. Is there really no way to simply make the movie mono instead of stereo with iMovie? The suggestion of using QuickTime didn't work for me, as I described above, but I found a way to accomplish the same result wih iTunes. The problem is, first off, this seems really hokey to have to go through so many steps, in different programs, just to make the sound mono. Secondly, when I import the (now mono) audio back into iMovie, it will be very difficult to make it sync up perfectly with the video. Multiply this task with about twenty or more clips, and it will be very time consuming, and likely to have audio that does not match perfectly with the video (which is simply not acceptable). Is that really the best (only) way to get the sound to come out of both speakers?

  • [SOLVED] Software mixing on ALSA+USB sound card

    I have cheap chinesse USB soud card. lsusb says its "Tenx Technology, Inc. TP6911 Audio Headset"
    After arch installation sound was working about 2-3 reboots. Then i googled and deleted pulseaudio, and sound randomly working or not after reboots.
    After a lot of research i got /etc/asound.conf like that:
    pcm.!default {
    type hw
    card AUDIO
    ctl.!default {
    type hw
    card AUDIO
    "AUDIO" its name of card. Checked that. And now i had sound in 80% reboots.
    After research i founded that i cant play 2 sounds at same time. (And youtube writes "error occured" for 90% videos).
    Tested aplay (it never works):
    >aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
    Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono
    aplay: set_params:1239: Channels count non available
    Then played sound in other program and in same time launched aplay:
    >aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
    aplay: main:722: audio open error: Device or resource busy
    So that mean i need software mixing.
    Googled, and installed "alsa-oss" and did some random stuff with config
    pcm.!default {
    type hw
    card AUDIO
    slave.pcm "dmix"
    ctl.!default {
    type hw
    card AUDIO
    slave.pcm "dmix"
    and now youtube working. I hear it. But now aplay says:
    >aplay /usr/share/skype/sounds/CallBusy.wav
    ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1743:(_snd_pcm_hw_open) Unknown field slave
    aplay: main:722: audio open error: Invalid argument
    He dont like "slave" thing in config, but it helps. I tested 3 times, added "slave" and rebooted and youtube works. Without "slave" it not working.
    And i still cant hear 2 sounds at same time. In google ALSA says like software mixing must work without config, if not then do bugreport.
    Im in arch less then 7 days, before i had experience with ubuntu server only, so configuring ALSA is hard for me.
    Can somebody help me configure software mixing?
    Thank you.

    Okay. I surfed your URLs and ended in http://alsa.opensrc.org/Dmix
    Example /etc/asound.conf from 3 and 5 works great! Thank you!
    If somebody will google Tenx Technology, Inc. TP6911 Audio Headset
    Use /etc/asound.conf (you need create it)
    pcm.dsp0 {
    type plug
    slave.pcm "hw:0"
    ctl.mixer0 {
    type hw
    card 0
    or
    pcm.dsp0 {
    type plug
    slave.pcm "dmix"
    hint {
    show on
    description "My dmix dsp0"
    ctl.mixer0 {
    type hw
    card 0
    both works for me.
    =======
    Aaaaand after 2 reboots everything is broken. Both configs not helping. aoss and alsaplayer don't make any sound.
    5 reboots later sound again works.
    =======
    Okay, i know why i need reboot.
    If you have same problem - do aplay -l, if your card not first - nothing will work. You need reboot until your card is first. I tryed to do my card always first, but then mixer dont work. And for make it work on every reboot looks like you need read 18 huge books about universe creation.

  • IPhone sound jack, only hear one ear

    iPhone 4, OS 5.1.1 only hear sound from one ear bud, had headphone jack replaced same problem.  was recommended to back up and restore and see if that works.  Any thoughts?

    Ok, but make sure you push down firmly.  Sometimes the last "bump" is a little hard to get over when inserting your earphones.  If you're sure it is, you may want to try another pair of earphones/headphones to make sure it's the phone that's the problem.  Otherwise, you can try restoring your phone, first using your backup.  If that fails you'll have to save as much of your data as possible and restore it as a new phone, without using your backup.  If the problem remains after restoring as a new phone then you'll have to make an appointment to take it to the Apple store for evaluation as it may be a hardware problem.  Be sure to back it up first in case it has to be replaced.

  • Setting ALSA sound card system wide (rather than just in KDE)

    Hi,
    I've got an HTPC with an ATI Radeon HD 4350 graphics card running Arch x86. It has its own integrated sound card for outputting audio via HDMI, which is detected by ALSA as a separate device. I've managed to set it as the default audio device in KDE 4 (via System Settings). This allows applications such as Amarok and SMPlayer to properly output audio to the HD 4350's integrated sound card, but software such as Flash and MPlayer (from the command line) are still outputting audio to the motherboard's built-in sound card. How can I change this setting on a system-wide level? I've tried running alsaconf as root and adding
    pcm.!default {

  • Music only plays from left ear

    Recently my ipod has only been playing music/sound from movies out of only the left ear from any pair of headphones. I initially thought it was the headphones so naturally tried another pair but it's not the case.
    Whilst on holiday last week I was experimenting and found that if I really push the headphones into the socket then music plays from both. Another option was that if the headphones weren't plugged in all the way (about half way) then music plays from both ears.
    Is there a solution to this, or is it a hardware problem with the ipod?

    yes, it is a hardware issue i.e. bad contact
    Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
    Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/

  • Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS, only front left and front ri

    I've had the sound card for about 8 months now. About a week ago, instead the usual 7. coming out of my speakers, only the front left and front right speakers work. It's not the speakers, because I plugged the speakers into the onboard audio and they all work, but when I have them plugged into the sound card, only the front two. I have the audio set to 7. in the control panel and have CMSS 3D turned on. It has nothing to do with settings, because when I run the test in the THX console, the front two speakers are the only ones that work. Could someone please help me out, Thanks

    You could try this. Remove the sound card from the computer and boot up the computer without the sound card in the computer. Let Windows finish loading and then have it shutdown. Slot back the sound card to the PCI slot and boot the computer.

  • Setting default sound card to card 0

    Hi,
    After following Arch Wiki for configuring Alsa I added the following to my /etc/asound.conf:
    efaults.pcm.card 0
    defaults.pcm.device 0
    defaults.ctl.card 0
    This works on my current session. However, sometimes when I reboot my computer, my primary sound card that my speakers are connected to, becomes card 1 and I have to update this setting to get my sound card working. Also, noticed that Chromium always look for card 0. That is, if my primary sound card is detected as card 1, I won't be able to play videos on youtube, neither using Flash or HTML 5.
    Any idea how I can dictate my system to set my primary sound card as card 0?
    Last edited by mohtasham1983 (2012-06-03 00:13:04)

    If both soundcards use different modules you can use e.g.
    #/etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf
    options snd slots=snd-hda-intel,snd-cmipci
    or
    #/etc/modprobe.de/sound.conf
    options snd-hda-intel index=0
    options snd-cmipci index=1
    which both do the same.
    If both soundcards use the same module you have to do something like
    options snd-hda-intel index=0,1 id=SB,HDMI
    (See modinfo of your sound module for suitable parameters like id, vid, pid, etc)
