Alter Session, same user

Good night community,
I have issued a command Alter Session to set a different NLS_DATE_FORMAT for only one session of an user but, the other sessions of the same user (yes, the application here use all the same database user) got the changes.
Is that predictable to happen? Is there a clausule to issue Alter Session only for a specific session of that user?
Thank you very much!
PS: If this is not the right place to ask this, could you move it? Thank you very much!

Show us the proof that you got that result. Post your 4 digit Oracle version and show us the sql*plus sessions you have created and the actual ALTER SESSION command you executed.
ALTER SESSION has NO affect on other sessions whether those 'other' sessions are for the same user or not. A 'user' is NOT a session.

    Can anyone help me to know how to open multiple responsibility in the same user login session in R12 ?What do you mean by open multiple responsibilities in the same session? You can only see the menu of one responsibility at a time, so how to do you expect the application to let you see multiple responsibilities/menus in one session?
    You could open another session and this way you can access more than one responsibility at the same time.
    Thanks,

  • How to tell if a user is issuing 'alter session statements'

    When I run 'alter session' from sqlplus in my schema, this does not get parsed and go to v$sql or show up in v$open_cursor. I have a user that is running queries from informatica. He says he is passing alter session statements through informatica, I want to see if they actually get there. The person is not real versed in oracle and I don't know informatica.
    i cant turn on trace cause he connects and disconnects and this would run immediately, I am not in a position to turn on system level tracing, add a trigger, or turn on auditing (not allowed).
    anyway to tell from a data dictionary view or something like that if these were issued by a given session? The queries run for a few minutes, so I have a bit before his session disconnects to query the data. I can't get him to change his code to stay connected. Is there a view that shows parameter changes for a given session?
    oracle: 10.2.0.5
    4 alter session commands are:
    Alter session set sort_area_size=999999999;
    Alter session set hash_area_size=999999999;
    Alter session set db_file_multiblock_read_count = 128;
    alter session enable parallel dml;

    i cant turn on trace cause he connects and disconnects and this would run immediately, I am not in a position to turn on system level tracing, add a trigger, or turn on auditing (not allowed). If Informatica connects to Oracle via network, capturing TCP/IP traffic and mining in it may be your last resort.
    you can get session's PDML status from
    select pdml_status from v$session;
    i cant turn on trace cause he connects and disconnects and this would run immediatelythis contradicts to your following statement
    The queries run for a few minutes, so I have a bit before his session disconnects to query the data.
    I can't get him to change his code to stay connected. Informatica should have debug. Ask him if he can go step by step.

  • Multiple sessions for the same user

    Hi,
    The scenario is like this. The user is logged into the system using JAAS and
    has a session object created. I want to create a new session for the same user
    with the already available credentials. This is to provide the same user the access
    to the application in another window with different session object. How can do
    that in Weblogic 8.1 server ?
    thanks in advance,
    Krishna.

    Hi
    I think it would be easier to enable session time out settings using GPO considering you work in a domain environment..
    Having session timeouts settings you could say... hey after 15 min of inactivity disconnect the user and then after 15 min of disconnected session log him off
    Take a look at this URL: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754272.aspx
    Hope this helps

  • Is there a way to disable concurrent Weblogic Admin Console sessions for the same user?

    A coworker on another workstation and I are able to log into same user account on the Weblogic Admin Console at the same time. I would like to restrict access so only one session per user account can be logged in to the Admin Console. Is this possible?
    Alternatively, is there a way to log identifiable information (IP/workstation) when multiple sessions for one account occur at the same time?
    I am using 10.3.6.0

    Hi,
    You could also check the http access logs for such info. There you could see records for the received requests, with each record starting with the source IP that initiated the request.
    The default location for access logs is ${DOMAIN_HOME}/servers/${SERVER_NAME}/logs. Of course in your case, the ${SERVER_NAME} would be your admin server name (AdminServer if left as default).

  • "Accounting-Start" and "Accounting-Stop" with same "user name" and "session Id" recorded in different RADIUS servers.

    Hi,
    I have questions about "Accounting-Start" and "Accounting-Stop".
    1.If a NAS configured to have a primary and a backup RADIUS server. To start with all the “Accounting-Start” records will be in the primary RADIUS server. Later on the primary server goes down (Primary server won’t tell the NAS?). When sessions stop, the NAS sends the “Accounting-Stop” to the secondary. I understand the “Start-Stop” record with the same “user name” and “session-id” ideally should be recorded in the same server. If this situation happens what should both the NAS and RADIUS server do?
    2.A NAS configured to have a primary and backup RADIUS server. To start with all the “Accounting-Start” records will be in the primary RADIUS server. Later on the administrator decided to change the primary server (as there are problems with the previous primary). sessions stop, the NAS sends the “Accounting-Stop” to the new primary. This ends up the “Accounting-Start” and “Accounting-Stop” with the same “user name” and “session Id” in two RADIUS servers.
    To summarize, how to avoid the ”start-stop” pair ends up in different servers ? If it does, is it  an issue for RADIUS application ?
    Cheers,

  • Imp: new session for the same user if  idle for 4 mins. or else throw error

    Dear All,
    I have a requirement where for security reasons if a session remains idle for 4 mins. or more, it should redirect to login page. This is easy as there is a feature in apex itself under security in application properties. This works fine.
    But I also don't want the users to start two active parallel sessions for the same user, and allow user to login only if the session for the user is idle for 4mins. or more or else display error message that the user has already logged.
    A second in sequence, on submit process for this in page 101 when login button is hit is written for this. It is as follows:
    declare
    found boolean := false;
    begin
    for x in (SELECT a.apex_user from apex_workspace_activity_log a,apex_workspace_sessions b, (SELECT max(view_date) as maxdate FROM apex_workspace_activity_log where upper(apex_user)=upper(:P101_USERNAME) and APPLICATION_ID=120) maxresults, (SELECT max(session_created) as maxcreate FROM apex_workspace_sessions where upper(user_name)=upper(:P101_USERNAME)) maxsession where b.session_created=maxsession.maxcreate AND b.APEX_SESSION_ID!=:SESSION and upper(b.user_name)=upper(:P101_USERNAME) and b.APEX_SESSION_ID=a.APEX_SESSION_ID and a.seconds_ago<240 AND a.APPLICATION_ID=120 and a.view_date=maxresults.maxdate and rownum=1) loop
    found:=true;
    raise_application_error(-20000, 'Already Logged.');
    exit;
    end loop;
    IF not found THEN
    null;
    END IF;
    end;
    But for some this reason this does not work as intended. Two users can login parallely.
    When I trace the program, I see that it should catch the parallel user login. But it does not.
    Is it some db cache issue? I don't know.
    Kindly let me know how to fix this. It is crucial for us to achieve this.
    Thanking in advance.
    Regards,
    Deepika.

    Dear Fateh,
    Thanks for the reply.
    The features of this plugin are:
    Configurable timeout actions including alert, redirect, and logout
    Optional and configurable warning message
    Option to keep session alive if user isn’t truly idle. Special thanks to Martin D’Souza for a great idea on how to implement this feature.
    But it cannot stop a new session for a user, if there is an active (in my definition apex_workspace_activity_log.seconds_ago<240) session already running for that user.
    Regards,
    Deepika.

  • Using ALTER SESSION inside a stored procedure.... not a good idea?

    Hi,
    I have two stored procedures, both of which are used to query a database to find a particular book, based on ISBN. One sproc searches our main product catalogue and the other searches our suppliers feed catalogues. The stored procedures are called from a C# application via a search tool and the user is able to search on either our catalogue or our suppliers. The appropriate procedure is called based on the users choices.
    However, the following behaviour is observed
    I search for an ISBN (is a varchar2 field, as isbn's may contain an X if the checksum digit equates to 10) on a feed, so uses the FEED SPROC. The book is found and returned to the app in about 0.5 seconds. I can repeat this as often as i like on different books etc. always works fine.
    I then do the same search but against our own catalogue, so uses our CATALOGUE SPROC. Again the book is found quickly, and the search can be repeated with the same results.
    If i then go back and run our FEED SPROC then the search time increases to about 3 minutes !
    Both the feed and our catalogue is in the same database, although different schema's the connections will be pooled through our app server.
    I can repliacte this every single time. I think i have narrowed doen the cause of this behaviour to a few lines of code in our CATALOGUE SPROC:
    -- store values
    select value into v_vch_NLS_COMP from nls_session_parameters nsp where nsp.parameter = 'NLS_COMP';
    select value into v_vch_NLS_SORT from nls_session_parameters nsp where nsp.parameter = 'NLS_SORT';
    -- Ensure case insensitivity throughout
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER SESSION SET NLS_COMP = LINGUISTIC';
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER SESSION SET NLS_SORT = BINARY_CI';
    do other stuff
    -- restore session variables
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER SESSION SET NLS_COMP = ' || v_vch_NLS_COMP;
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER SESSION SET NLS_SORT = ' || v_vch_NLS_SORT;
    If i remove this code then all is well, so i am assuming that using ALTER SESSION inside a stored procedure is the cause of the problem as it would be changing the execution plan of the FEEDS SPROC in some manner? Any ideas? I know i can just rewrite the sproc to avoid using this coding, but wanted to understand if i am doing something wrong by using ALTER SESSION in this manner?
    Any pointers would be appreciated.

    Hello (and welcome),
    It may be a case of having to create a linguistic index to facilitate the queries once you set these session level parameters, i.e..,
    CREATE INDEX idx_01 ON tab ((NLSSORT(col1, 'NLS_SORT=BINARY_CI'))It would appear that the setting of those parameters is invalidating index searching on the current indexes.

  • How to kill particular Oracle Session from the multiple Session of User

    Hi,
    I am working on Web Application using ASP.NET , C# with Oracle. I am excuting queries from multiple connection of same user. I want to kill particular user session. I have tried to Kill session by using ALTER SYSTEM KILL SESSION 'sid,serial#' it is working fine but how can i identify which session is generated by particular connection so that i can kill that particular session.
    Suppose there us user 'abc' there are multple instance of this user and all are active but same USERNAME. So Please tell me how can i identify that session through which i am executing the query.
    Thanks,
    Nitin

    Some ideas for how to pick the right session:
    -Look at the time the session was connected (logon_time)
    -Look at the time the session last started it's most recent statement (last_call_et)
    -Look at the sql that the session is running (join with sql_address and sql_hash_value over to v$sqltext_with_newlines or one of the other views that show you the sql they are running)
    That usually gets me most of the way, if it's possible to distinguish them. ("Yeah I just started this query and I want you to kill it." is different than "I started five different queries at about the same time and I'm not sure which one I need killed.")

  • Preventing ALTER SESSION at logon?

    Hi
    We had a mystery in that a table created via SQL Developer and Toad where diffetent regarding the varchar2 columns if we didn’t say if it was CHAR or BYTES during the create script.
    We found out that SQL Developer seems to performer an ALTER SESSION statement during logon based upon the preference settings. I have a database where the nls_length_semantict is set to CHAR. Default value for SQL Developers preference is BYTE.
    We have a lot of databases with both settings and this is really an annoying problem. Is there a way where we can use the settings as they are in the database?
    Regards
    Marika

    Hi
    Yes - this is the preference that I mean. It creates problems since our user ain't aware of it. Also is it a probelm when one working with several databases with different settings at the same time. I would like an option that turn off this peference. I want to use the settings in the database without having to know them in advance and change the preference everytime. How do I do that?
    Regards
    Marika

  • Create view and alter Session gets 0RA-01031

    I can't create a view after using ALTER SESSION set current_schema without using an explicit schema. I get ORA-01031. Is this a known bug? Here are the details:
    1. Log on as SYSTEM
    2. ALTER SESSION set current_schema=FRED;
    3. CREATE VIEW vFoo as select * from Foo;     -- ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
    4. CREATE VIEW FRED.vFoo as select * from Foo;     -- this works!
    I've read where some privileges need to be granted directly. In fact, if Fred grants select privilege on Foo to SYSTEM, the statement in #3 above works. However, something doesn't seem right because why does #4 succeed without the GRANT?
    In case you're wondering why I don't just use #4 above, which does work, it's because I've got a script that will be run by customers to create tables, views, etc. in an arbitrary schema and the schema is associated with a user with limited permissions. Hence, the use of the ALTER SESSION.

    See, You looged as SYSTEM (Scheme = SYSTEM)
    Now you alter your session to another schema FRED.
    Now if you want to access SCHEMA of FRED, You need to connect first.
    SQL > connect user/password@host
    Then
    SQL > CREATE VIEW vFoo as select * from Foo;
    View created.

  • Can I use the same user accounts for both Lion & SL?

    I have one Mac that I can upgrade to Lion but it is the one that the entire family uses every day (I only can use it (and administer it) on weekends), so I have to make sure that there are no problems and no issues so my plan is to:
    Move all of the users accounts to a different drive.
    Configure 10.6.8 (SL) to use the user accounts on the different drive.
    Back up SL to a bootable drive.
    Repartition the Mac for a SL & Lion partition.
    Reconstitute SL on both partitions.
    Upgrade one SL partition to Lion.
    I should now have a partition for SL and Lion that both use the same users accounts so when I (and then my family) are comfortable with Lion, the switch will be transparent.
    Any problems that I am unaware of (and how to remediate it)?
    TIA.

    There are a few discussions here on the topic that I was planning to employ:
    Moving Home folder to different HDD From Mac OSX Snow Leopard via Terminal?
    Moving some Users to different volume
    How do you move a user account to a different drive?
    Another way of doing it is to move the directory, and then alter the user's home directory using the NetInfo utility (Tiger) or Directory Utility (Leopard). In both, you can change the user's home directory from the command line in Terminal.app like so:
    $ sudo dscl . -create /Users/user NFSHomeDirectory /Volumes/volname+/+user
    In the SL System Preferences -> Accounts one can select a user's account, right click and choose Advance Options presents the screen below. This is how I intend to point each OS to the same user account on an external HDD.
    Does that answer your question?
    TIA.

  • How to avoid that two or more people alter the same Sales Order same time

    I'm looking for a way to avoid that two or more people altering the same Sales Order at the same time.
    If someone has entered a Sales Order in the system and something needs to be adjust it can be done by two or more people at the same time. The problem is that when someone is saving these changes, the changes of another person, who is still working on the same order, get lost.
    So what we need is an alert that someone is already using this order and that no other person can make any changes at that time. So the order needs to be blocked for altering for any other person at that time.
    To avoid this I think you have to do something with the Stored Procedure. Or has someone a more simple and better solution.
    I've already put this thread in the Business One forum and someone suggested to put it in the Business One SDK forum, as there isn't a solution in Business One itself.
    So if someone can give me a direction for a solution I would be very pleased.
    Best regards,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
    The only thing that comes close to what you want in standard SBO is Data Ownership. However, this can't stop someone editing a document that is already being edited.
    You can't use stored procedures to track which document is open because the SBO_SP_TransactionNotification proc (which is the only one that you are able to customise) is triggered when a document is updated or added (or cancelled or closed) and not when the document is actually being edited in the user-interface.
    You could do this by writing an addon that uses the UI API to trap events in the sales order form. In theory, a sales order is being edited if the sales order form is in Update mode (ie in order for the form to be in Update mode, the user must have selected an existing document and changed the value of at least one field). You can trap the event of the user changing a value and then log the user and document in a table. When other users try to edit the same document, you could check the table and then prevent them changing values. When the first user clicks on the update button (or cancels the update or closes the form etc etc) you can remove the lock on the document. However, I have doubts as to how robust it would be. The problem with this kind of locking solution is that you sometimes get 'stranded' locks (eg user was editing a document when their workstation crashed) and the solution can end up being more troublesome than it is worth.
    Kind Regards,
    Owen

  • Multiple instances of the same BSP app for the same user

    Hi,
    I currently have a BSP application which has a main page which consists of three frames.  Each of the frames within the page is linked to its own controller, with one other controller controlling the whole page.
    due to the nature of the program i need to access information from one controller in another.  To do this I create a reference to the controller whose data I want within the controller that needs access to it.  This works fine under normal processing, however when the application is executed / called up twice by the same user, the controllers for the initial instance of the application are de-referenced...
    Does anybody know why this may be occurring...and how to get around it?
    Thanks
    Mike Law.

    Whenever you open a browser anew, then there is no session data that the browser can send in any way whatsoever, therefor a new session on the server is started.
    If you open a new window from within the first session this might not be the case, you can run multiple windows in the same session.
    Either way, I would recommend to search the forum, there have been discussion about this (or a similar) topic, e.g. accessing the same model instance - it would be best if you look for them, read them, and if you have any questions left come back for more
    Cheers,
