ALV Excel in place formatting problem

Hi All,
I'm running out of options with a particular problem I'm experiencing in ALV, and it i'm doing my head in...
The Problem :
I'm using ALV Grid to create a report. The report is sorted on 4 fields of which 3 have subtotals.
The whole of the report displays fine in ALV but when I start Excel in place, after 75 lines or so, the export to the Excel sheet seems to get confused and initially starts repeating merged cells (which is not that big a deal) but eventually values are left out all together.
I'm not posting any code, as it does not seem to have anything to do with my code (after all it displays correctly in ALV).
What I have tried sofar :
-Replaced sap_mm.xls and sap_om.xls templates in BDS --> No luck, still the same problems.
-Display without subtotals and kick off Excel in Place --> Works fine, no values truncated formatting OK, but not as I want it !!!
-If I filter out the sections one by one,eg, C2ST by itself, L1ST by itself, the export seems to work fine.
I have linked in two files, which show the problem :
Here is a [Screen shot of the Original SAP list |http://www.geocities.com/adutchoz/alv_PROBLEM.jpg].
And here is the [Excel in Place file |http://www.geocities.com/adutchoz/ALV_Formatting_problem.xls] which is wrongly formatted. As you can see after line 75 the cell merge does not work anymore and from  line 100 it is leaving out Management Activity column values.
Has anybody else experienced these problems ? I'm interested to know this before I go to OSS...
Any feedback will be highly be appreciated.
Cheers,
Wouter.

Did you get an answer to this? could you share a solution, please?

  • ALV Excel in-place in Portal

    Dear gurus,
    i wonder if:
    1) ALV Excel inplace can be used within portal
    2) if yes, what configuration steps I must maintain (if there is any document about it, could anybody point me to it?)
    3) if not, can anybody suggest any alternative? I need to have my Excels formatted (like using OLE or when I generate a XML Office file, but that would take me too long to create all the outputs one by one) and if possible opened from the portal. If that could not be done, my users would accept to save it first and open the file then.
    4) I need this functionality because on my portal the users access the standard ERP transactions (through ITS or WebGUI or how exactly that is called). If I could do any programming, I would use Office UI WebDynpro container, but obviously I cannot do that. That is the reason I look for some SAP standard way how to do this.
Thank you for your time and effort if you ave read this far:))¨

Looks like there is not real progress regarding this topic. Excel in-place is not supported in any GUI version except the SAP GUI for windows. For anybody who would struggle and waste time like me, please read here:

  • XML Publisher to Excel Report : Date format problem

    Hi,
I am trying to create an Excel report with XML Publisher. I have an issue with the Date Fomatting.
In the XML template, I have set the "Date" column in date format. But the excel output report "Date" column returns as "General text" (string) and it is sorted as text, not as date.
Can anyone please help me out?
    Thanks!!!

    Hi,
Did this post solve your problem? I have the same issue that I need to solve.
I have an xsl-fo template with dates in it.
    The dates are in english.
My excel is setup to use danish.
When I export to excel it knows the month jan, feb, mar, apr, ... which are the same in danish and english.
But months where it differs like may (danish maj) the cell is a general text instead of date.
Is there anyway you can set/transform the date in the xsl-fo template so it does not care about the language in excel?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Excel 2013 Conditional Formatting problem

    Hello!
A customer of mine has recently transitioned from Office 2007 to Office 365. This has been a major hurdle for them, and they're still experiencing some issues with things not behaving the way they used to. I'm not an Excel expert, so I have no idea if the
following issue is some sort of bug or compatibility issue, or if the user is just expecting behavior that isn't going to occur in this version of Excel.
She has a spreadsheet that she uses to schedule people. She uses conditional formatting to change the color of numbers based on their size. For example, everything less than 2 is red, everything between 2 and 4 is green, etc.
So, let's say she has two rows that have been formatted already. Then she adds a third row, inputs the data, then highlights the entire row and tries to format it. Once she adds her rules and clicks "Ok", that row is formatted...but rows 1 and
2 have now been cleared of all formatting. So basically, she can't format things on the go, as she puts them in, she has to format everything at the same time, every time.
It doesn't happen to every row that has already been formatted. If she has 20 rows that are formatted, sometimes only 2 of them will lose their formatting after she applies her rules to a new row. It's usually the rows that are right next to the new row.
I have very little experience with Excel conditional formatting, so I don't know what would cause this, or if there's a fix or workaround. Also, I'm not sure if I'm explaining it clearly. Any help or suggestions would be welcome!

    Hi,
According to your description, this issue seems occur with the special spreadsheet. In my view, it might be more related to the file itself, such as incorrect range with conditional formatting rule, double rule with same cell range or other.
would you like to send the sample file to me ([email protected])  if possible? I want to test it.

  • ALV Excel Download problem ( Special Character)

    Hi,
I am unable to download completely in XLS format from ALV grid. When i tried in couple of ways there is a special character( " ) in one of the filed. Due to the same Excel download has some problem. I tested by removing those and it worked fine,
Please suggest me to solve the issue.
    Thanks,
    Bhanu Gattu,

Data strings with special characters can not be downloaded into XLS format from ALV grid. In my case, I replaced the special character " with space and I could download the data into excel.

  • ALV XLS format problem

In some of the reports when we view the ALV output in xls format(in GUI) the totals are not showing. The  total are coming properly in theALV grid format and it is also showing correct when we download it into local file in xls format. Anyone please help me with this problem.
    Thx to all in advance

Any filters set, sort criteria, totals calculated and subtotals are not  taken into account for the transfer to the spreadsheet.
When you transfer to as local file then file is not generating as excel file its simple TXT only difference is extension will show as XLS, you can open this file in notepad also

  • ALV export MHTML format problem

We are using List->Export->Spreadsheet->Excel(in MHTMT format) to export from ALV. This option is take very long time to export the data .However user choose Excel(in existing XXL format) it get downloaded quickly.
Does someone faced similar problem. Is this related with SAP , Network or Excel. We are using Excel 2003.

    Hi Hung To,
I didn't got root cause of the problem.
When user reported this, I told him to use XXL format until this gets fixed.
Being not u2018sou2019 critical, this got delayed and last time I checked with user he switch back to MHTML format without any problem.
Because this problem was with user in remote location, I though network could have been issue, but there wasnu2019t any change in network since and everything else on useru2019s PC remains same. So I havenu2019t got a clue what could have gone wrong.
Considering this as one off problem I just left it as I couldnu2019t even regenerate the problem.
I would say check with other users if they have similar problem with MHTML format, if not than most probably its excel.
I would love to hear from others if they had this problem and solved it.

  • ALV Grid Excel in Place using REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY

I have a ALV grid displayed in a report and i have a bunch of layouts created by various users and the layouts works fine when selected. But when I use 'Excel'  (excel-in-place) button to export the grid into an excel sheet, the order of the columns are all jumbled up and not in sync with the ALV grid layout on the screen. However, when I use export to local file>excel option, the order of columns are in sync with the layout. Can any one explain why this is happening and how I can fix it ? Is there any OSS note or something that I need to apply ?
PS : I am using REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY to display the report and I am building the fieldcatalog manually
    Eg :

      MOVE 'BUKRS'      TO r_fieldcatalog-fieldname.

      add '1' to lv_col_pos .
      move lv_col_pos to r_fieldcatalog-col_pos .
      APPEND r_fieldcatalog TO tc_fieldcatalog.
      CLEAR r_fieldcatalog.
      MOVE 'TB_OUTPUT'  TO r_fieldcatalog-tabname.
      MOVE 'VKORG'      TO r_fieldcatalog-fieldname.

  • Is it possible to change the formatting of Excel in place

    Hi,
is it possible to change the standard formatting of columns and texts when using Excel inplace (Excel on the web for the BPS )?
    Many thanks,
    Simon Cohen

    Simon,
I am afraid you can't modify styles using excel in place.
Note 632333 says the following :
List of the features the Excel OWC can use from the template:
Text format - font, size, colour
Cell format - background colour, border, alignment
    Number format
    "Simple" formulas
Panes Split and Freeze (only for Office versions 2002(XP) or higher)
Nevertheless this applies only for cells which are not filled by BPS runtime. All texts and values written by BPS runtime into the template use standard styles. The styles cannot be changed, see below.
List of features that are not available in the Excel OWC:
Styles. Consequently no changes to the SAP standard styles are taken over to the OWC. Therefore the features mentioned above are available only for the cells not containing a transaction specific data
VB Macros. When needed, the designer can use a script language (VBScript, JavaScript) to access the DOM of the OWC. You can include HTML into a text component in the Web Interface customizing (tn BPS_WB) and place your script code there.
Cell and text formats not mentioned above (e.g. text orientation,...)
    Line brakes within a cell
Panes Split and Freeze (only for Office version 2000)
Embeded elements (like form objects, pictures, background picture,...)
Having more than one worksheet in the Excel OWC
In comparison to HTML based planning layouts the Excel layouts do not identify the position of the documents.
    Hope it helps,
    Alberto

  • ECC6: export ALV to 'Excel (in MHTML format)

We have just upgraded to ECC6. When I try to export ALV to 'Excel (in MHTML format) I get a runtime error (GETWA_NOT_ASSIGNED). My list has 2 quantity fields. Tracing the error in the dump, i notice there is failure when processing quantity fields when the following SAP Standard method is called.
       >173      when if_salv_bs_c_data=>reffieldtype_quan.
       >174 *... get iso value for quantity value
       >           call method cl_alv_xslt_transform=>get_isonum_from_intnum
       >176             exporting
       >177               i_value    = <l_data>
       >178               i_unit     = <l_reference>
       >179               i_decimals = ls_attribute-s_dfies-decimals
       >180             importing
       >181               e_value    = l_isovalue.
I have tried a few tricks with the FIELDCATALOG function without success. Does anyone know how I can overcome this.
    Regards.

    Hi.
The quantity fields are coming from a table structure. I have tried making then character in the fieldcatalogue function but the runtime error was not eliminated.
    Regards.

  • Can't place formatted Excel file into ID?

Can't place formatted Excel 2010 data base into InDesign CS5 on Mac? Won't place into newest version of ID either. Will place if I unmerge cells first, but I need thousands of the cells to be merged.

I thought you might want to do that. No, once a PDF you can't edit to your heart's content.
So, as to the matter of thousands of cells? You may have to look that one up but there is a limit on what you can do with an Excel file and InDesign; there are only so many cells, columns and rows that can be imported and let alone worked on inside InDesign.
And you want to merge the cells in InDesign? What ever for? If thousands of cells then edit in Excel to your heart's content and output a PDF. InDesign is not designed as a spreadsheet and not the tool you need and will really bog down with thousands of cells to merge. Just do it in Excel.

  • Getting Runtiime error while exporting to Excel 97-2000 format (URGENT)

    Post Author: net_us2001
    CA Forum: Exporting
    Hello Everyone,
This is my first time in this forum.
I am getting runtime error while exporting the report in EXCEL 97-2000, but exporting perfactly in MS-EXCEL (Data only) format.
I found the reason is, using expression (formula) for formatting phone number as shown below.
    On table field "abPhone",
used  "formula = PhoneFormat() " expression on format field -> common tab -> display string .
Intead that i have used fumula e.g. test1 and used same expression, then it was exporting perfactly..
Having above problem if i use expression to supress group header and report header.
So let me know if anyone can help, why it was giving error in first case.
    Thanks in advance
    Thanks,
    Nitin

    Hi,
This is the Technical limitation of ABAP list export to local file.
ALV grid greater than 1023 characters per line will be split into 2 lines.
To prevent a line break occuring when you download the list as a local spreadsheet file, you must reduce the width of the list in ALV. You can do this either by hiding columns or by changing the column widths in the ALV. Take care that the column heading characters also dont exceed 1023 characters. This will work.
    Thanks
    LG
