Am I entitled to a free replacement battery?

My MBP battery lasts only a short time.
System profiler says
Battery Information:

Serial Number: Sony-ASMB012-377b-27ba
Manufacturer: Sony
Device name: ASMB012
Pack Lot Code: 0001
PCB Lot Code: 0000

Full charge capacity (mAh): 2142
Health Information:

Condition: Check battery
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): -1837
Voltage (mV): 10949

The numbers show battery health is 38 percent ("Full charge capacity mAh" divided by baseline of 5600) with a low cycle count. The voltage is also low; mine reads 12400mv. Definitely sounds like a defective battery.
However, ultimately only Apple can make the call. This is a user-to-use forum, and people can only post their experiences, which have varied regarding getting batteries replaced. The general consensus is that the best satisfaction comes from a personal visit to an Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider.

  • RESULT - Free Replacement Battery from Apple UK

    Hi to All,
Like a lot of you I had problems with my battery. I noticed earlier this year my MBP would power-off when there was still lots of battery charge left. It gradually got worse and worse. A few months ago I noticed whenever I pulled the power cord out it would switch off and recently I can only use it when it's plugged in.
I read about the battery problems online, and on this forum. I discovered it was a very common problem. I had assumed there was nothing I could do other than buy a new battery, but after reading posts from some of you who have had success getting a replacement one I thought I'd call Apple. Nothing to lose other than cost of phone call. To be honest I wasn't expecting to get any joy as I bought my MBP in May 2006.
I spoke to a overly-friendly guy in Bangalore who kept saying "Don't worry, don't worry. I will sort this out for you". He took my details and serial number etc.. then kept putting me on hold as he spoke to his 'supervisor'. After 15 mins he explained that my battery's serial no. is one that qualified for the replacement programme - but that only applied up to 2 years after purchase. As mine is 30 months old, he had to do some arm twisting and they made an exception for me. He transferred me to a woman in Scotland who gave me a case number etc.. She then passed me onto a dispatch guy.
After 20 mins on the phone my free replacement battery is on it's way. Not sure if I've just been very lucky on this occasion, but I would recommend calling Apple Support wherever you are, before going ahead and forking out for a new battery.

Hmm... Newer Technologies' reseller list includes OWC/esales but they
are not the same; one is a reseller and the other is a manufacturer. A
few product names at OWC are not seen anywhere else unless you look
real hard, but Newer Tech and NuPower can be bought direct from Newer
Technologies online; and a reseller could contact them to carry their stuff.
In any event, if just the plastic is mal-formed, and the section not fitting up
is just a layer of white plastic, that'd be comparatively easy to change. If
nothing else, Apple should have a shorter waiting list on replacement cells
now the recall numbers have been going out to customers. I got mine after
about a two month wait; and after all that waiting, I've gotten over the need
    to use a portable computer. It just sits there and I have to hassle with it;
to keep it charged up and up to date. With winter here, I don't carry it while
travelling anywhere, it'd freeze too easily over the distances I have to go!
Did Newer Tech offer to refund monies and take back these odd batteries?
Have you contacted other battery sales sources for comparative products?
The quality and support plus warranty (and fit, finish, compatibility)
    are all important details.
Some cheap replacements could be dangerous and not suited for use in
the iBook or PowerBook they are intended to replace. I see some at
places like amazon afiliate stores, and wonder what they really are inside.

  • HT1438 do i have to pay for a replacement phone, when i take my phone into the shop to be replaced or repaired. i dont have any money to pay for this, am i entitle to a free replacement phone

  • Replacement Battery sent by Apple NOT WORKING (!)

    Hi everyone,
A couple of months ago I received the infamous Apple email stating that if your computer was so and so, then you probably needed a free replacement battery. I thought this was great since I had been one of the unlucky ones whose computer had burnt out because of this a year ago. At the time (last year) my computer was barely 4 months old, but it was udner warranty. After the replacement, I still noticed the computer became really hot really fast, and after my warranty was over... I prayed.
Now, a month ago I got the new battery for free. Swell. I calibrated it. Didn't really work. Should've taken the hint. Then, every time my computer would turn on, the glorious "your date has been set..." message would appear. Should have taken the hint. Finally this morning, ladies and gentleman, my computer died on me for an hour. Did the 3 beeps.
After trying everything, I finally did a PMU reset and now my computer has come back to life. The battery still friggin' hot, the clock still in 1969 (I reset it now).
SO: what should I do guys? I'm petrified that this computer will die again, and it sure will. All my work is in here, AND all my homework (I am a college student). Of course, today i'm gonna back everything up just in case, and I'm gonna contact Apple about the new battery presenting the same symptoms as my old one, but in the meantime, any safety suggestions?
Thank you so much and sorry for the long email
    Jorge

Call Apple and tell them what you have experienced. I had the same problem with a replacement battery after about 3 weeks. The battery was the problem.
I have my second battery now and all is well. They were very friendly and the specialist knew I had tried all the possible solutions like downloading the battery update, reset the P RAM and PMU even repaired permissions and took the battery in and out many times. They sent a new battery which took about 10 days. New batteries can be defective, the one I got showed 12 recharging cycles. Good luck.

  • Macbook shutoff is a bad battery issue - free replacements offered

MacBook and MacBook Pro Battery Update 1.2
Apple has recently discovered that some batteries used in its MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks may have battery performance issues. Apple is offering a software update that is designed to address these issues.
The battery update is available immediately via Software Update or downloadable here.
Note: The factors causing the performance issues do not present a safety risk. You may continue to use your current battery.
This battery update should be run on all MacBook and MacBook Pro computers and extra batteries that were purchased between February 2006 and April 2007.
If, after you have installed the battery update, your battery has any of the symptoms listed below, please make a reservation to bring your computer with its battery to your local Apple Retail Store, or contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP), or call your local Apple Support Contact Center. If Apple or an AASP determines that your battery is eligible for replacement, you will receive a new battery, free of charge, even if your MacBook or MacBook Pro is out of warranty.
For MacBook and MacBook Pro systems with Intel Core Duo processors, this program extends repair coverage on the battery for up to two years from the date of purchase of the computer.
    Identifying an affected battery
Affected batteries will have one or more of the following symptoms:
    * Battery is not recognized causing an “X” to appear in the battery icon in the Finder menu bar.
    * Battery will not charge when computer is plugged into AC power.
    * Battery exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery with a battery cycle count (as shown in System Profiler) of less than 300.
    * Battery pack is visibly deformed.
Note: If your MacBook or MacBook Pro battery does not have any of the symptoms noted above, your battery does not need to be replaced.
    Next Steps
To participate in this worldwide program, your MacBook or MacBook Pro battery must show the symptoms noted above. If it does, please make a reservation to bring your computer and battery to your local Apple Retail Store, or contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP), or call your local Apple Support Contact Center. The U.S. support number is 1-800-275-2273. If you are located outside the U.S., please see Apple's international contact list for your local Apple Technical Support phone number. An Apple technical support representative or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) will determine if the battery is eligible for replacement, free of charge. Customers are responsible for transportation costs to eligible AASPs and retail stores.
If a replacement battery is sent to you via airmail, it is important that you return the older battery to Apple so that it can be properly recycled.
This program extends repair coverage on the battery for up to two years from the date of purchase of the computer for Intel Core Duo-based MacBook and MacBook Pro computers. Apple will continue to evaluate the battery update program and will provide further extensions as needed. Apple also reserves the right to modify the program if other solutions that address the battery performance issues become available.

  • Where to buy a replacement battery for iPod 5?

Unfortunately, I wanted to play music in my car when we went on a road trip, it was fully charged but I wanted the music to keep on playing. It was on for almost 15 hours. It was a stupid mistake, and now every time I charge it fully, an hour later, the battery life is already cut down in half. It is frustrating to keep on constantly charging it, and it makes it harder to use if I have something important to do but it keeps on losing battery life. I put it on the lowest brightness, turned off all apps, and did many other things to try and prevent it from losing too much battery life, but I think it's already "exhausted" enough. I still have about 160 something days left on my warranty, and I read on here, that I am able to have a free replacement if the warranty is still active. Do I have to get it at an Apple store? Or can I order it online somehow?

    Skydiver...
Totally outside my bailiwick since I have no iPhone, but is it not true that one could purchase that fine device from a cell service provider like AT&T or T-Mobile? In every case I can think of, no matter what product it may be, warranty service starts at the original PoP?
Not knowing how or where it was purchased, I said what I said. Genius Bar my well be the route.
    best regards

  • Does applecare cover a replacement battery

Does applecare cover replacing the battery?  My iPhone 5 battery goes dead very quickly now and I am sure it needs replaced.

If your phone is still in warranty then a battery replacement is covered.
Even if it's out of warranty it may still be eligible for a free replacement through Apple's recent program:

  • Replaced battery with the same problems

Today I received my replacement battery under the extended warranty plan due to black cross in the Finder icon, all the troubleshooting pointed to this issue and yet this afternoon after swapping the batteries over I still have the same problem, any ideas what this could be? Interestingly it didnt find the battery on its first boot but on the 2nd it did, and began charging it etc then within a couple of minutes reverted back to "no batteries available"
    Many thanks
    Matt

Oh man! I had the SAME problem, with the exception of the computer ever recognizing the battery. I even got a replacement battery like you did with the same results. What I did: I called apple care and asked what I should do. They told me to either 1)ship it to the apple headquarters in a free shipping box that they send to me or 2)take the laptop in to the nearest apple store and talk to a "Genius".
I took it to a Genius. They said they'd have to replace a part. That was 9 days ago... Every time I call to ask how much longer they think it will be they tell me there are about 2 people ahead of me in line.
It turns out there's something called "Procare". It's like a secret society of apple owners that costs $99/year and the bigest perk is that you go to the front of the line if you need a repair. I haven't bought i yet because if I can save a hundred bucks, I will. The nearest apple store is 2 states away from me! Anyway, you might have better luck requesting a box to send off your computer for repairs.
Hope this was helpful. It helps to vent!

  • My battery recall replacement battery just died :(

My nearly-three-years-old iBook G4 had a battery that was part of the infamous bad batch that had to be recalled so dutifully I entered my details to the recall page got my replacement battery and sent off the might-potentially-explode-at-any-time unit in the UPS box to be disposed of by Apple. This was a year ago or so I can't really remember.
Yesterday I unplugged my iBook and took it downstairs to copy some files over to my external hard drive, plugged in the firewire cable, started copying and then - foomp - my iBook just switches off. Odd thing to happen I thought - not so odd more oh-god-no! was that it wouldn't switch back on.
After pressing and holding the power button and removing and replacing the battery a few times I get a bit scared. My white plastic wonder is dead! I take out the battery one more time and press the button to give a charge status and it gives no lights! Not even the one green blink for 'please charge me now I'm thirsty!'.
I get the power adaptor and plug it in to the wall and the other end into my iBook (no battery inserted yet) - green ring lights up - press the power button and I get the reassuring chime! Yay! iBook lives again!
When I finally get booted into OS X I plop the battery back in the power plug light turns orange and the menu bar shows 'Charging..." and the battery shows 0%?
Zero percent? How come? My iBook stays plugged in the vast amount of time fully charged up and ready to go, every now and then going cable free to be my internet browser while I watch TV in the living room.
But after some time the menu bar still show 'Charging..." and "0%"?
I leave my iBook there for some time more, the power plug still glowing orange, before I check the underside and the battery is cold (far colder than the rest of the now mildly warm iBook), so definitely not about to explode. Good news.
I try all the usual tricks like resetting the PMU and PRAM and NVRAM and permissions etc. etc. but still "Charging..." and "0%".
My other battery (a spare I bought a few months after my iBook) works fines and charges lovely so my iBook isn't to blame.
Here's what I need to know - is this battery a goner? Can I send it to Apple to be repaired in some way (I doubt I'll be able to get a warrantee replacement out of this I'm fairly sure coverage is out) or do I have to go the whole hog and spend £90 on a new battery?
    iBook 12" 1.2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I imagine you have already checked to see that your replacement battery wasn't also recalled. But you might check and be sure how long ago you got it and how long the warranty is--very possibly it might still be under warranty. I think you can find all this out by calling the Apple store, as they can look up your account. They might also be able to tell you how to report this to Apple, as it might be indicative of another battery problem that they may not know about yet. I think these batteries are actually manufactured by Sony and others, and if there is a defect, the manufacturer--and not Apple--will bear the cost of repair or replacement. So Apple might be willing to help you here. It's at least worth a shot. Apple likes to have happy customers.
    Good luck!

  • Worrying Apple UK store reviews of MBP 15" replacement battery

    Hi All,
I need a new battery for a MBP 15" so I looked at the apple store, bad reading..
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MA348G/A
Are people just ranting about the batteries full stop or are there probs? Anyone give advice for or against? as for £99!?! crazy but used to it by now..
    Thanks!
    Message was edited by: Podwell

People are ranting about their existing batteries (the ones that came with their MBP when they bought it). Apple has acknowledged those issues (which were really caused by faulty manufacturing by Sony, the OEM for those batteries), and offers free replacements as part of a two-year battery warranty extension.
    The new batteries are fine.
    Hope this helps...

  • I ordered a battery for my laptop because it said to replace battery soon.  How long can I let the new battery sit around as I wait for the old one to run out of more charge?

I ordered a battery for my laptop because it said to replace battery soon.  How long can I let the new battery sit around as I wait for the old one to run out of more charge?  Will the new one become less effective if it sits around too long?

How much capacity is remaining on your current battery?
    Check your power status
From the  menu: Hold OPTION and click System Information... èHardware è Power
Copy and Paste in your reply.
The new battery will become less effective if you store it in a hot or humid environment. It should be stored at room temperature (22 C).
    Long term storage (6 months):
Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life.

  • Where can I buy a genuine apple replacement battery (A1309) for my Mid 2010 17" Macbook Pro?

Where can I buy a genuine apple replacement battery (A1309) for my Mid 2010 17" Macbook Pro? There are used batteries on ebay that don't appear genuine. There are some third-party knock offs. The apple store seems to believe they can replace it, but I have to make a reservation at the silly Genius Bar just to have them tell me how much it's gonna cost, not to mention then likely wait for them to order the battery and install it. I'm perfectly capable of installing it myself. I just need to know where I can order it?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Yeah, that's what I've finally decided. I was kidna super frustrated because the first apple store I called wouldn't even tell me a price or tell me if they could replace the battery without a Genius Bar appointment, and as I would have to take off work and drive acros town--and I don't have a car so I'd have to borrow one--that was pretty annoying. That call left me pricing linux laptops. I called another store to see if I'd have better luck, and the initial answer was the same, but the girl relented under some trying-to-be-nice-but-clearly-annoyed pressure, and she gave me the answers I needed: yes, they should have the battery in stock and it should be a same-day replacement that should cost $179.
It just *****, really, because there's so much about Apple that I used to love, and I'm watching it kinda melt away under their success in the mobile market. As a professional user, there's less and less reason to stick with them. Instead of being the best they can be, I feel like they're just trying to be flashier and just a little better than the other mediocre computer companies. Ugh. Anyway, now I'm ranting.

  • Excise invoice during free replacement

Our business is Distribution. we get orders frm customer for that order we place PO to vendor and we sale it to customer. some times if the goods is damaged the customer will ask for Free replacement. That time from our stock we use to send the material to customer and get it replaced by our vendor. The issue is excise invoice. Our Vendor does not give Excise invoice at the time of free replacement.  But we have replaced to customer from our stock. We tried using a free replacement invoice and using the same excise to take the stock into sap using 511 movement. But, the issue is that cost impact in finance is missing. Could you please suggest an alternative method?
