[root@localhost custompkg]# pacman -R amarok-base
error: could not find amarok-base in database
[root@localhost custompkg]#
I can`t remove Amarok, but it`s playing now.  :-o
Besides Amarok works unstable, sometimes 1min, 30min, 10h and dissapear. His database is SQLite.
I think that some screwed (interrupted) pacman update (-Syu) did all this things.
Caused that my Amarok is more unstable than ever. Earlier he had only 1 disappearance/day (always working 24/24/7). Now even 1st song can shut him down. It`s random, without console errors 1 sec before his disappearance.
What do you think about it?
^^
P.S.
I`ve noticed that now he`s playing 40min already (lol), but it`s deceptive. :-/

  • I'm having a problem scanning things from my Brother scanner to my imac

I am having a problem scanning things from my Brother scanner to my imac. It tries to connect to the pc but it cannot.

    Just a thought-
Its a bit weird because Not all Yosemite functions seem to work smoothly but...
If you open PREVIEW app first, then
FILE menu, drop down to "Import from ____" the name of your scanner
if that is greyed out, then cludge is to
FILE menu, click on OPEN... and select your scanner device- then CANCEL
then FILE menu again, now IMPORT FROM _____ (scanner name) should appear, select it
    then the scanning page appears.
I hope they fix this soon.

  • Yet another "unable to find root device" problem (pacman issue) SOLVED

During this night I've been trying to solve a problem that let me without access to my ArchLinux partition.
    Booting the kernel.
    :: Starting udevd...
    done.
    :: Running Hook [udev]
    :: Triggering uevents...done.
    Waiting 10 seconds for device /dev/by-uuid ...
ERROR: Unable to find root device '/dev/by-uuid'.
You are being dropped to a recovery shell
Type 'exit' to try and continue booting
sh: can't access tty: job control turned off
    [rootfs /]#
The thing is that I've read about chrooting, I did chroot following the steps described on the Wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Change_Root but I have a problem with pacman and it's that I can't use pacman on chroot, it says: command not found. I must've done something wrong but I have no clue.
My disk is sda1 and I don't use a special partition for /boot or /home.
    Thank you in advance.

    I've solved the mystery.
Well, I realised that I had another serious issue with filesystem (that was mentioned on the Archlinux's news https://www.archlinux.org/news/filesyst … equired-1/ and https://www.archlinux.org/news/the-lib- … a-symlink/ ) so I had to figure out which packages were using /lib to remove them. Also I had to disable pacman's signature checking system because as I said before it didn't seem to work.
After removing every package that happened to use /lib  at that time I eventually could perform the command "pacman -Syu" and later on "mkinitcpio -p linux" worked out.
    Thanks DSpider.

  • Amarok problem.....

    Hi guys,
So, I'm having this problem where my collection in amarok would disappear everytime I start KDE ( I have amarok start automatically when I start kde ), I even tried deleting the whole amarok folder under ~/.kde and even the whole ~/.kde folder itself, but still doesn't work.
The thing is it just doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes, and when it happens I have to do a rescan everytime, and I'm going crazy because I think my hdds gonna die everytime I do a rescan, since it pretty old >_>.
Also sometimes for some reason it also stops recognizing what my collection folder is, so I have to go to Configure amarok --- > Collection and reselect my music folder.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Serato will register when plugged into either of the usb ports, but as soon as i plug my audio interface into the other socket, Serato instantly loses the connection. As soon as unplug plug the interface, Serato instantly registers again.
Is this likely to be a mac problem? Should i be able to have both usb ports connected to and both things registering?
This is driving me crazy. Any help is greatly appreciated!

It's known that Powerbooks don't put out alot of electrical juice onto the USB ports. If both devices are relying on power from the USB ports, that may be the issue. If so, solution is to get a powered USB hub, or if the devices will support their own power supply, get one.

  • Yet another 'black-photo' problem: many things tried

I have an event from march 2003 that I discovered has a 'black screen' problem. The event shows 8 thumbnail pictures; when I double-click 5 of the 8 I get a black screen, with 3 I see the picture. These 3 are rotated.
When I click the thumbnail with control down on a rotated picture and ask for 'show file', Finder finds a 1,6 MB .jpg file in the relevant event-folder in the 'modified' folder in the iPhoto Library. If I ask to 'show original file', Finder shows me my top folder (with Macintosh HD and Network). Similarly, 'show file' finds nothing for the non-rotated pictures.
When I search for the file name, neither Finder nor Spotlight finds the original file for the rotated pics, but do find the version in the 'modified' folder. Both find the files in 'originals' for the non-rotated pictures.
And I can direct Finder to the folder in 'originals' that contains the 8 original pictures. They are OK - Preview will open them, and when their folder is copied to the Desktop, iPhoto will import them and show them - dates are correct etc. (in that sense all is well, but of course the old thumbnails put in albums will still not point correctly).
I have rebuilt the library (hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions) checking all options.
I have chucked the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches,
and I have trashed the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder (dug it out again when it did not cure the problem). Nothing helped. I asked Disk Util to repair permissions.
    Problem persists.
I don't know if other pics in my library have been similarly abandoned by iPhoto.
I am wondering whether there is some way of pointing iPhoto to the folder with the original pictures which will reestablish the connection? The iPhoto Library is gray when I try 'import' and cannot be opened; makes sense - but maybe there is some other way? It seems really silly - the photos are there, in the right place - iPhoto can see the folders right next to this - yet it doesn't 'see' it.
    Any suggestions?

I foresee that the fixed database will get corrupt again. Everything you tell me, and I see here, tells me it will happen again.
I have said no such thing. This db is corrupt. There is no reason why the next one will also get corrupt. None whatever. I have run iPhoto since v and never and any corruption at all.
The *best protection against a recurrence is a good back plan*
I tend to run out of space.
Well this might explain the origin of the corruption. OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on. Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially. Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do. Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
True, running a Referenced Library may not mean quite as much disk space as rebuilding a Managed one.
However. you need to think about this a but more before making your decision on that basis:
    *Some things to consider:*
    1. Importing and deleting pics are more complex procedures. You have to to put the files where they will be stored before importing them. When you delete them you'll need to remove the files from the HD yourself.
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
    4. Because iPhoto has no tools for managing Referenced Files, if, for some reason, the path to the photos changes then you could find yourself resolving aliases for +each photo in the Library+ one by one.

    TD
    My own opinion:
I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.

  • After I got an update I am having problem downloading things

when I got to other sites to download things now it takes a few minutes then after it says problem loading page

    Hi,
Please check if this happens in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode]. Safe mode disables the installed '''Extensions''', and themes ('''Appearance''') in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons'''. Hardware acceleration is also temporarily disabled - the manual setting is '''Tools''' > '''Options''' > '''Advanced''' > '''General''' > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20Advanced%20panel?as=u '''Use hardware acceleration when available''']. All these settings/options/add-ons can also be individually or collectively disabled/enabled/changed in Firefox normal mode to check if an extension, theme, option or hardware acceleration is causing issues. Disabling/enabling hardware acceleration, and some types of add-ons in normal mode may require a Firefox restart.

  • Problem getting things to compile.

I need someone to help me because I can't compile my programs. When i'm in ms-dos prompt and try to compile, it just say bad file name. Anyone know possible problems. Thanks

Try this (if you're using a version other than 1.4.1, just make the apprppriate changes):
This may duplicate some of what you've already done, if so fine. But please verify you've done exactly what is written or know why you shouldn't before proceeding. You may want to print these instructions before continuing.
To download the current version of Java, go here:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html
and click on the word DOWNLOAD in the column labeled SDK in this line:
    Windows (all languages, including English)
After downloading, click on this page of installation instructions and read through #6:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/install-windows.html
NOTE: If you are installing on other than a standard 32-bit Windows system, go to this page
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/install.html and choose the installation instructions for your system.
Install the software according to the preceeding instructions
Below is a Helloworld program, copy and paste it into your editor and save it as "HelloWorld.java" Use capitalization, Java is case-sensitive. If you're using Notepad, quote the name when saving, otherwise Notepad adds ".txt" to the name. Go to DOS/command window and check that you've got the file where you want it and that it's named correctly.
    -------program HelloWorld.java--------
    public class HelloWorld {
    public static void main (String[] args) {
    System.out.println("Hello World!");
In the same directory as HelloWorld.java, enter "javac" - the program should print out a list of options, if not, set your PATH - see below.
In the same directory as HelloWorld.java, enter "javac HelloWorld.java" and the javac compiler will create HelloWorld.class. If it was successful it will not give any messages. Check that the file is created.
In the same directory as HelloWorld.java, enter "java -classpath . HelloWorld" with the spaces and the period. The program will run.
    Here is additional information:
The Windows path is a set of pointers that Windows uses to locate programs that you execute, like javac.exe and java.exe. This setting is explained here:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/install-windows.html
Scroll down to: 5. Update the PATH variable
(you should have already done this as part of the Java installation)
The CLASSPATH is another set of pointers that is used by Java to find the files that you create and want compiled and/or run. This setting is explained here:
    Setting the Classpath:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/tooldocs/windows/classpath.html
[NOTE: always start your classpath with ".;" which means the current directory. See my classpath, below]

  • [SOLVED]problems doing things on DE as admin, right click permissions

there are a few things that seem counter productive to having a DE, im using KDE and when i want to edit file permissions through the DE i right click on a file, properties, permissions tab, if i dont have permissions, then i cant edit permissions.  then i have to chmod, or chown in the console just to do what i was trying to do in my DE.
am i just going through a paradigm shift having been using  winows wayyyy tooo long?  or is there a way to get this to pop up an administration password so i can continue the operation in the DE, rather than have to switch out to the console each time?
i think what im trying to do here is when im in a DE, i want control as a desktop user, and password prompt antyhing that is ROOT, but atleast have access to it, and not have to back into a shell everytime i have to make config changes.    or is this just the windows tricks my mind is playing on me?

ConnorBehan wrote:I for one think the expectation that users will happily say "oh shit, I opened this file manager as the wrong user, so I guess I better close it, then open it again as the right user and navigate all the way back to this directory and THEN do what I want to do"
lol, that about explains what i am experiencing, good way to put it.
i think as i am mentioning in this post https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=119747 that there should be a prompt for a password, similar to when you add a share and the "Run as root -KDE su" password prompt comes up.  i think this should pop up for things like when your in file editor and try to edit a conf file as a standard user, and forget that your just a standard user until after you spent your time doing the edits, and when your trying to set permissions for things that you dont have permission for.
is there a setting, or a way to set this up to catch the action and prompt you?
i do see what your saying that its habit after you do it, i was just thinking that having to form that habit is counter productive to a DE, since a DE stands for "i want to use my mouse" and not "i want to type more"  and look at the keyboard when its half-dark and look for some hotkeys, usually after midnight i get like this.
personally, i get lazy at times, after spending a rigorous amount of time patiently coding, and typing 45-80 wpm hours on end, and at the end of the day, i want some mouse action, lol.

  • I Have a problem geting things to stay still.

I set two sets of keyframes with the same parameters but I still get movement in between them.  I looked at the interpolation graph and there's always a hump in between them.  No matter how much I fiddle I can never get something to stay still for a moment.

This ping pong movement is also visible in the comp window when you look at the keyframes. You can simply select the pen tool using the G key and then Alt/Option click the offending keyframe to fix the problem. This only effects the keyframe selected where changing all keyframe interpolation to linear changes the timing of the entire animation.

  • Problems finding things on Skype

Before I was talking to someone on Skype and I lost the connect because Skpe was having problems and I got a message telling me about the problem and to try again later.  Since then I see there is no way to chat live with someone at Skype anymore.  This just happened.  I was trying to re-instate my "Unlimited Calling Premium Subscription" but I cannot find it anymore.  Skype seems to be impossible to navigate through these days.  Are they having problems?  Please help and let me know how to get back to "Chat" and also where to find "Unlimited World Calling Plan".  Thanks
    Barry R.

its a known issue on 10.8.5 ,  an update is coming.
Make a major update to an operating system,.... and a hiccup is possible and thats it.
The 10.8.5 update updated a CoreMediaIO plugin that accesses the MBA camera, but didn't bundle the 32-bits version of it. Other (older and newer) versions of the OS do include a universal version (32 and 64 bits), but not 10.8.5.
This means 32-bits apps such as Skype or iMovie cannot load the plugin, making the built-in facetime camera invisible to these them.

    FIX:
One work around would be to reinstall the former Apple Camera plugin from a backup.  If you're technically inclined, give that a try.
    http://community.skype.com/t5/Mac/OS-X-10-8-5-Broke-Skype-Video/td-p/1891729/pag e/4
If you go a little further down the thread, he offers a zip file of the AppleCamera plugin.  I am not positive that is the same for all Macs; that's why I wouldn't post that zip here. In my opinion, because of that, finding the Apple Camera plugin on your own backup is more reliable.
    You need Time Machine
    Go to folder /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
Copy AppleCamera.plugin to good place (usb memory stick is the best place).
Go to Time machine in date that skype work fine.
Change AppleCamera.plugin with file from Time Machine
Restart system, Now skype need to work with camera.
    Or:
    AppleCamera.plugin.zip 956 KB

I quickly clicked on Restore before iTunes changed its mind about recognizing the iPod. Moved some songs onto it and it appears to be back to normal.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

  • Problems Pinging things on the LAN

I have a network setup with the following.  I have one Linksys E2000, I have set this up as an LAN to LAN AP per the linksys guide http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=3733 It has been set to a static IP address of 192.168.10.77.
I also have a Dlink DIR601 with a static IP address of 192.168.10.1.  When I connect to the wireless AP, I cannot see anything else on the network except my device, and the AP.  I am unable to get into any of the other devices on the network.  All other devices are hard wired to the network ports of the Dlink.
I have gone into the E2000 and also turned off the firewall, but I am unable to get any access to the whole network.  What am I missing?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Sorry, issue fixed.  I had acidentally cabled the Wireless AP to the Comcast gateway and not to the Dlink.  So of course it would not route.
