An error in muitplex burning"

Hi
I have attempted to burn a dvd, a running time of 50 minutes, into three subjects, but I kept getting "an error in mutiplex burning" I have defraged the hard disc but to no avail. Any help?

Hi
My unsorted list on this subject.
*Multiplexing Error*
PART One.
Use of strange video/audio material eg .avi, .wmv, .mp3 etc.
I only use.
Video - StreamingDV (miniDV tape via FireWire) and
Audio = .aiff (as on audio-CDs) (else coverted to this .aff 48KHz)
Using strange letters in video project name eg +,/; etc. keep to a-z and 0-9
strange letters in project name eg +
as described by Donnyboy69. Does the title of your project have any symbols or decimal points in it. If so, that is why you are getting the error. I had a project that had a + sign which caused the same problem. I renamed it without the symbol and low and behold, it worked.
PART Two.

Do a safe reboot (by holding down the shift key until you see the spinning gear on grey background, then release, then restart when your start-up screen appears).
I always makes a DiskImage first and test this so that it runs OK
I use only - Verbatim DVDs
I use only - DVD-R
I burn at an as slow speed possibly eg x1
This gives good DVDs
PART Three.
Multiplex Error

Back again. Here is what I have found to work. I also have and use a LaCie DVD-R/RW DL external drive and a LaCie external hard drive as well. Since yesterday I have tried a few ways to burn a themed iDVD project having four 56 minute movies on it, amounting to 226 minutes onto a DVD DL disc, capacity 240 minutes. Apple tech support really didn't know what to do but gave me a very good tip. I had two options left. Apple tech support's tip was to try disc image. One of the replies on a thread with this subject said not to, but my experience today is good. Put your project onto "Burn to disc image," under "iDVD, file." Yesterday encoding took me 23 1/2 hours. Overnight for iDVD disc image, encoding took 21 1/2 hours (again) while I slept. This morning I tried to copy/burn disc image to a DVD with Roxio Toast 7, and it stopped near the end of the burn with some kind of "error" message. So then I tried Utilities> Disc Utility> Burn icon, and followed it through. Be sure to click the DVD DL drive in the window "Burn disc in:". I had one other problem though. At the end of a 46 minute copy, it started to verify, and at the end of verify it rejected the burn. So I tried again, and when "verify" appeared, I clicked on "Skip." The disc finished burning and is doing fine and well. A long and tortuous process, but at last something works. I made several additional copies using Disc Utility. Best wishes. Chuck, Chicago.

(Not a 'guy' but I will answer!)
First, I do not think that mixing widescreen and standard makes a difference in iDVD.
Second, you should use a better brand of DVD disk. Also, many of us have experienced fewer problems on playback with DVD-R disks. Recommended brands here are Verbatim, Maxell and Taio Yuden. Memorex and TDK are not consistent and may not give you a correct burn. They apparently have fewer layers in the composition of the disk. I have always used Verbatim DVD-R disks and have not had any burn problems.
Also, choose a slower burn speed, 4x or less.
Third, to determine if the iDVD project will burn properly, create a disk image file (from within iDVD, go File->Save as Disk Image) and test it. Mount the disk image and then open DVD Player (in Applications) and view your project. If it plays correctly, you can then burn the actual DVD disk from the disk image file using Disk Utility.

I did everything I've seen suggested, but a friend (who used to be an Apple Genius) suggested that I do a safe reboot (by holding down the shift key until you see the spinning gear on grey background, then release, then restart when your start-up screen appears).
It worked, and I got a clean burn from iDVD.
Hopefully this can help other people.

Well, I finally got it, and it was odd enough to post here incase anyone looks this topic up again. Many things were tried, including burning the uneditited film, the edited film without titles and chapter markers, abbreviating the chapter markers in case length was the issue (remember the old iMovie used to truncate them when moving to iDVD?). In the process, I noticed that one, and only one, chapter marker was on the same line as the title marker. All the others were on the line above. The only way I seemed able to change that was to clip a few seconds of film. After that last clip, the offending marker took a place on the line above, as were all the others. That run published, compiled completely and burned. That's one for the books.

I got an error message while burning a CD in iTunes - "the attempt to burn a disc failed.  The burn failed because of a medium write error."  What does this mean and how do I fix it?

The disk you are using probably has a defect, not uncommon on consumer grade disks. Try another disk or better yet another disk from a different manufacturer or at least a different batch.

  • Error message when burning dvd

I have a flat panel 17" iMac with a superdrive. I have recently tried to back-up data onto a dvd. When I hit the burn button I soon get an error message. When I eject the dvd and put it back in to play nothing happens and the dvd is ejected only when I open iTunes. On a third and forth attempt the dvd gets spit out without any burn attempt.
Strangely, the first dvd I put in that was not readable on my machine I put in a Windows machine, which appears to read the dvd and I see the folders that I tried to burn, but obviously cannot open the files because it is a Windows machine.
I have read the discussions and dvd issues seem to be rife. I thought I had applecare but it appears it hasn't been registered and this issue is being addressed with apple. So I have not managed as yet to get any apple support.
Can anyone shed any light on my problem?
    Thanks
PS: The reason for the back-ups is that I am soon going to upgrade to Tiger. I see from discussions that issues about dvds are rife.

I didn't note the message I'm afraid. However I have just tried to burn a dvd again and got the message 'An error occurred while burning the disc. This disc cannot be used.' I have tried the burn with two different dvds and I don't think the discs are the wrong ones. One was DVD-RW and the other was DVD-R. I recall that on another occasion there was an error number, which might have been 303, but I can't be sure of that figure.
Whilst on burning to disc, I want to make an image of a folder. I follow the instructions of navigating to the folder and click on it but the resulting image is only of the folder and not its contents. Am I doing something wrong here too?
    Thanks.

  • An error occurred while burning the disc.

I tried to burn some stuff onto a DVD today with my PowerBook. Here's the info on the burner:
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-845E:
    Manufacturer: MATSHITA
    Model: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-845E
    Revision: DMP2
    Serial Number:

    Disc Burning: Apple Supported/Shipped
    Removable Media: Yes
    Detachable Drive: No
I bought some DVD's on sale at Radio Shack, and when I tried to burn a movie and a few photos onto a disc, the progress bar showed it starting to burn, then it stopped and I got this message:
"An error occurred while burning the disc. This disc cannot be used."
A little research here at the Apple forum brought me to this site:
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
And after downloading a little program called DVD Media Inspector, I was able to classify the DVD's I had bought as:
    "4TH CLASS MEDIA:
Pathetic garbage media, landfill material, about 0-50% success rate...."
OK, off to Mega Lo Mart, where I bought some nice, expensive Maxell DVD's.
Media Inspector doesn't see my fancy new DVD's. When I try to burn stuff using the Finder, I get the same result as before.
Getting desperate at that point, I located and downloaded updated firmware for my model of Matshita superdrive. I'm not sure what firmware is, and there was a free range one and a standard one, so I went for the standard one. There were dire warnings in the readme file about "flashing" a superdrive being on the same risk level as open heart surgery. I flashed my superdrive. (You can say that here, and it's not dirty.)
I also tried burning using iDVD, and after much preparation, it started to burn, then spit out the DVD. I tried three of the landfill DVD's and two of the Maxell ones. I'm out of things to try. Any ideas?
I have never tried burning DVD's before. Am I doing something wrong?

I tried again using iDVD's One-Step DVD making feature. It will let you make a one step from a movie file, and I had a .dv version of the movie I want to burn.
It encoded video for a while, encoded audio for a little while, then started to burn. The superdrive made some noises, then the DVD was ejected and I got an error message saying:
    "Burning Finished
Errors were found during the burning process"
I hit OK (though it really wasn't OK) and got another error message box. This one said:
    "Multiplexer error
    (some message about multiplexing problem)"
The message didn't make sense to me, and I was unable to remember it. What's a multiplexer? I would have guessed an avid movie-goer, but somehow I think that is not it.

  • Error message when burning a disc of photos

I was trying to burn a disc of a large number of photos - around 400, and I got this error message:  "The burn to the HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS23N drive failed. The disc drive didn’t respond properly and can’t recover or retry."  I did a sample burn of about 5 or 6 photos and it worked fine, but this large project failed.  I have a total of 1200 pictures I'm trying to burn.  Any advice?  Thanks for your help.  I have spent hours trying to get this project done.  It looks like it is in the "preparing to burn" stage for 10 or so minutes, then when it gets ready to burn, I get the failure message.  Thanks again!

    Take your choice:
    Bad discs
Dust bunnies in drive blocking laser
    Drive failing
    Crashed/corrupt firmware controlling drive
    Crashed system component
Try different brand of discs and/or slower burn speed
You don't say anything about your model computer.  With some you can reset software.  Of course sometimes restarting a computer can help.

  • "Errors Found During Burning Process"

    Hi,
Having sucessfully burned AVI movies using iDVD in the past I have started getting errors. iDVD now does the same thing regardless of the movie i'm trying to burn and the media I use.
Having selected Best Quality (due to the film size), the menu rendering works fine, as does the prolonged job of encoding the video. When iDVD gets to the Audi encoding bit, just before it starts to burn the DVD itself, iDVD ejects the disc and states: Errors Found During Burning Process.
Clicking on the arrow to get more info it states: "The recording device reported the hardware error: Tracking servo failure. (0x09, 0x01.)" Bizarrely, the main iDVD progress window states both 'Cleaning Up' and 'Writing Lead-In' and the only way to get out if it is to force quit.
I've read a few posts on here and tried a couple of things such as trashing the plist file and reparing permissions. I also booted up the diagnostic disc to see if it could see a problem with the optical drive. But nothing has solved the problem.
    Any ideas?
For reference, I'm running iDVD 5.0.1 on Tiger on a 1.8 G5 iMac with 1GB RAM.
Appreciate any help you can give me.
    Neil

    Colleagues:
Ran into the same error, # -34506. Definitely frustrating as I was burning a DVD of an iMovie that I'd spent many hours editing. The iMovie is only 30 miniutes in length, so I don't think it's a size issue. iDVD went through each one of it's steps in burn DVD sequence. However, 45 minutes later when processing is finished, the message reads: "Burning Finished, Errors were found during the burning process." Clicked to see the detail: "The error # -34506 was reported." Checked the DVD and nothing was burned!!! The same thing happens when I opt for disk image. No img file is produced. This is especially frustrating as it looks like it all but completed processing.
Does anyone know what Error # -34506 specifically indicates? How do you fix this? Does it only happen in a specific sequence? And, is Apple aware of the problem?
    Thanks!

  • Error found during burning process

I am having a problem burning my iDVD project to disk. I'm using DVD-R disks. The message I get is "Errors found during burning process". The burning process seems to work correctly all the way through until it gets to the last step - "burning".

There are lots of things that can cause problems burning to disk.
I suggest that you save your project as a disk image (an option on the iDVD file menu) and see if that is successful. If it is successful, that would eliminate issues related to iDVD, encoding, and source material. After that, I would look to what brand of DVD you are using (Verbatim, Sony, Fuji, and Hp are oft recommended here), what burn speed (4x or lower is best), whether all iLife programs are up to date, whether you have any 3rd party or Quicktime plug-ins that might be interfering, whether you have sufficient hard disk space to burn (20 Gb is recommended, although 5GB would be absolute minimum).

    Hello queenabs,
It sounds like you are trying to burn a playlist to a disc in iTunes, but you are getting the error, "disc burner or software not found."  I found a couple of resources that I think might help with an error like this.
I recommend starting with the steps in this article:

Two weeks ago I successfully burnt a CD of Word files. Yesterday I put in a blank DVD and got a formatting error message. I didn't think too much of it (thought I had bad discs).

  • Errors found in burning

I tried to burn a disk image and the burn failed because erors were found during multiplexing.
I have never had this problem before.
The process was neaarly finished when this happened.
I have Plenty of free HD disk space
    I Ran Cache out
    I Repaired permissions
    I Ran Disk Warrior
My video project has stills imported with Ken Burns effect
It has 3 30 second avi's incorporated in the video
    there are 2 slideshows (50 slides) & (90) slides
I exported the iMovie project to QT & reimported it to another iMovie project prior to running iDvd.
    What causes the errors?

Holy cow! Seems this is not isolated.
I too, cannot burn Disk images, nor burn DVDs at all. Every time it gets to the "burning" stage, it gives an error. quoted below is a post i placed in the Macworld forums:
    Hello!
Over the past 4 months, i have made quite a few home movies in iMovie HD. (totaling a little over an hour). I wished to burn a DVD containing all of these movies to share at Thanksgiving.
So, I created a iDVD project. It contained 6 menus, all with music (MP3 and WAV), 3 with slideshows (10 photos each) - totaling 7:56 minutes menu play time. 3 menus were devoted to one, 40 minute iMovie project with 4 chapters (approximately every 10 minutes). Another menu contained various Quicktime movies made from iMovie projects (not the projects themselves). A 5th menu contained a single chapter, 10 minute imovie. the 6th contained 5 QT movies, totaling 15 minutes playtime. One of these movies were "shared" from iMovie 4 on my parents' G5. I also set a QT movie to play when the DVD was inserted - using the map button.
All in all, it took up about 2.6 GB of the DVD, according to the status pane of iDVD. There were 17 total tacks.
So, i hit "burn". It worked as expected, without problems for 5 hours (it's slow on a powerbook!), until it began buning. I tried it 3 times - the first, it froze immediately upon reaching burning, the second, it "finished" burning the Disc, only to give an error and a DVD that would not play in my DVD player. (it did have stuff burned into it - i could see that from looking at it!) The third time, it gave the "there was an error during multiplexing/burning" error in the middle of burning. I have tried using both Sony DVD+Rs, and Memorex DVD-Rs. Each time, i created a brand-new DVD project, making it exactly like the previous one. Each time, iDVD's encoder settings were set to "best quality", as i have had similar trouble in the past with "best performance".
Eventually, I got rid of the last three menus (containing the single chapter imovie, the one with 5 QT movies, and the menu with the MOV from iMovie 4. All else remained the same. It was down to 2.0 GB. This time, it burned properly - all the way through.
I decided that i wanted a back up copy, so the next day, i opened the file (which SHOULD have still contained the rendered files - i disabled the "delete rendered files on closing project" option - the project was still 2.0 GB in the finder), and clicked "burn". Although it already had the files, it re-encoded, and the burning issue re-appeared.
I made a copy using Toast.
I have tried using Disk Utility to repair permissions, and repair the disk itself, but to no avail. This all occured using 10.4.2. However, upgrading to 10.4.3 made no difference.
This is getting irritating, as iDVD is virtually useless. I can use Toast 7 to make a DVD, but i cannot customize the menus or layout of the DVD.
Oh, one more thing - i have tried 3 different brands of DVD - Sony 8x DVD+R, Memorex 8x DVD-R, and a Memorex 2x DVD+RW. (all three have worked with iDVD in the past, and it was the DVD+RW that eventually worked)
What should i do? As an aspiring iMovie film-maker, i need iDVD to work properly. If there is a way to re-install iDVD without re-installing OS X from scratch, please let me know! (it is, of course, contained on my 10.3 disc - my PB shipped with a tiger upgrade disc.)
I am using a 15" 1.67 PB with 512 RAM, and all files are stored on my internal 80GB hard drive (with 30GB free).
Hope somebody has some idea of a solution...
    --digidan
Should we be deleting the .plst files?
Or would a straight re-install using pacifist be in order?
I'll try the former, (tomorrow) and post the results!
