Anaglyph 3D ghosting help

Hi, I'm creating red-cyan anaglyphs from black and white originals in photoshop with layers, then importing into FCP. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for reducing ghosting. Some photos come out fine, others are distracting. So far, the only tips I've found say to reduce the green in the cyan and then reduce contrast. Anyone else know of any proven methods?

I have creadted a skyscrapper ad using Frieworks with a gradient on the background. When it is played on a PC (I use a Mac), there is ghosting of the text. Does anyone know how to get rid of this? Animated gif backgrounds with gradient would definitely look ghosted or distorted because of the way GIF images are generated. Take a look at the solution suggested in this tutorial http://www.smartwebby.com/free_tutorials/website-design-how-to/GIFs-optimization.asp - I think using the Exact setting might make your Animated GIF with gradients smoother.

3D anaglyphic no depth help

Hi,
I have just ventured into the world of creating anaglyphs (3D red/cyan)
I can easily manipulate a photograph to get great results no problems.
Now I am actually implementing some 3D into a game ( you will have to use red/cyan glasses of course).
While I can create the backdrops etc to look awesome the problem comes when I try create another object and import it into the game.
1) I create the static background export as a png, load into game = perfect
2) I create a single object export as png, load into game = no depth, just a blackish border around the object.
3) If i create the object in photoshop turn it 3d and then duplicate the object and place in the background in photoshop it works fine.
So, is it possible to create a single object in 3d save as a png , do the same for a background, place the object on the background and get depth with the object?
I am thinking it may be to do with the channels and there opacity changing dynamically or something?

yes I am well aware of parallax I use it all the time to get DOF etc, but 3d anaglyphic is different.
Perhaps I am getting my point across wrong.
forget about the game issue.
I create a 3d background 1000px x1000px export it as a png.
I create another image 60px x 60px again in 3d.
I place the 60px x 60px image on the background image.
Why is the 3d effect not working properly with the 60px x 60px image? it has a halo around it(probably ghosting), but does look 3d somewhat.
It seems the red/cyan(separated in the channels) isn't working correctly.

"Ghost" help balloons when using ClientValidator

I have written a custom Validator, that does both server- and client-side validation of an input field. For some reason, it is causing "ghost" tooltip balloons to pop up for the fields that use the validator. In other words, when you tab into the field that uses the Validator, an empty balloon appears pointing to that field. This is the same balloon that would contain any help text (i.e. the contents of the ShortDesc property). But, the ShortDesc property is empty for these fields.
It appears to be related to the use of client-side validation. If I simply remove the ClientValidator class from the "implements" clause in the Java class that I wrote, these empty balloons go away (and, of course, I no longer get client-side validation). So, it is something related to the client-side implementation. I can't seem to figure out what piece is causing the empty balloons, though! I've tried commenting out all of the JavaScript I generate and send to the client, or just returning 'null', but that doesn't seem to work. Only removing the ClientValidator from the implements clause makes the balloons disappear.
EDIT: After more testing, it appears that this may be only an issue with MSIE7. These empty balloons do not appear in Chrome v17, or FireFox v9.
I'm hoping someone has some suggestions I can try, as these are really annoying from a UI standpoint (and our users are on MSIE7, of course!).

Hi,
did you try with IE8 or a later version of IE? If it shows there then it would be good to have a test case. Note that for you to get immediate help the recommendation is to go through customer support. If I look at the test case (which would be an option) then if there is a bug to file, it wont be published for external viewers.

Ipod touch doesnt get recognized by windows or itunes?

okay so just recently i would plug in my ipod touch and the little noise windows makes to say that something has been plugged in rings except itunes wont recognize it or windows will make it seem like its not even there like its plugged in but a ghost HELP PLEASE!

This may not be your problem but I though it might be worth mentioning. I was having the same problem until I realized I had bought a second usb cable since a family member was always borrowing mine. I spent several days going crazy because my ipod touch was unable to sync with my PC. I finally swapped the new cable for the old and things worked fine.
I discovered that the new cable was only for recharging the battery and not syncing!!! It was only upon looking at the cable packaging that it said in fine print - for charging only!!!
I have no idea why they don't state that more clearly on the outer packaging.

Security update has messed up my computer

installed and kept package for security update a few hours ago
then restarted and now the finder won't load, it just keeps refreshing there is no way to access any function to uninstall or do anything
restarts don't work completely unplugging doesn't work
i'm trying not to freak out

First, I want to thank everybody who wrote this weekend. I awarded helpful points but then it stopped giving me the option and I didn't want to award all the solved points to just one person so if you have suggestions I will follow up on that. (Thanks to whoever took the swear out of my subject line, although it expressed the feeling at the time--you don't think installing a security update is going to be the cause of a meltdown.)
Here is how it ended up. I created another boot drive on an external so I could backup the rest of my files/media and try things from there. I opened in safe mode and even there the finder didn't work. I ran disc utility and then Discwarrior. Rebuilt the directory, repaired permissions, tested the device. Both Discwarrior and Mac disc utility reported the drive is failing. After that, the finder never did return to operation so I did an archive and install, and then restored to 10.4.9. The finder came back, my settings were still there, all my music was stil connected, and so far I haven't had to input a serial number but I haven't tried all the applications yet. The disc is still failing however, and so I am not going to use that computer until I can clone that drive and replace it. Any cloning/ghosting help/links/suggestions would be appreciated.
Oh, one interesting discovery during this. Even though the Finder didn't work, software update came up yesterday and I found I could actually use Safari and that would semi-launch the Finder to get to system preferences (I even tried running Tinker Tool to try and relaunch the Finder with no luck of course). Couldn't launch any other applications though.
In all, I think the drive was going bad first--hard to say though because I wasn't having any issues up to the security update install. It's a good warning to others to do the precautionary steps that all of you suggested. I got too ccomfortable because in the 13 years of owning several Macs and then working with a couple dozen every day (for video editing) I never had a meltdown with the OS--to not see the Finder take hold is disturbing.
I am very happy I still have use of this drive, but I don't trust it and will be replacing it soon.

"Repair Disk" is greyed out because you cannot repair the startup disk. You should be able to verify it, but to repair it, you must start up from some other disk, like your iMac's system DVD.

I have been editing project for two weeks and now I get ghosts of other images fromt eh project coming up in the wrong places even though the thumbnail looks right. Help.

Help. I have been editing a project for two weeks and now it gets ghosts of ohter images from the project coming up in the wrong places. The thumbnail has the correct image but the image either does not display and its black or an old image or another one shows.

When I have problems like this I do two things. First I shut down and restart iMovie. Sometimes that rejuggles the date. But I am sure you have been doing that in such a long project.
The Second thing I do is delete iMovie preferences, which can get corrupted.

A strange ghost file in Trash which can not be erased? Any help?

A strange doc in Trash -named ¨ð?, ïÖó.l—s
- resides in the trash bin
-is alias
-size zero Kb
-can not be moved opened or deleted
-no created or modified dates on display
in info window tells me that it's file with unknown access.
It doesn't cause any visible harm I just want to find out how this file appeared and how to get rid of it.
-when did search for invisible files
found it in Bootcamp>.Trashes> 501 which is a folder, empty.
(The Bootcamp partition is empty, I created it when purchased the laptop just in case I install Windows someday. When I open it there is just empty Desktop folder ,size zero Kb)
Here it gets weird with this 501 folder - on the finder window is displayed that it is created on 27 April 2025 at 7.33pm.
Now is the year 2011, so how a folder can be created in the year 2025???
It gets even funnier with the dates - when I go right click>Get Info, on display I see that this folder is created Sat, 20 August 1983 10:12 AM (!!!!!!
and modified on 27 April 2025 at 7.33pm.
Tried to move it to Trash - the “Preparing to move to trash” animated bar appears, keeps moving forever but no result at all.
Any help with deleting this ghost file (without reinstalling whole system)?
My Mac has OSX 10.6.8

Help, ghost image appearing in composition background

Hello
I have an issue of a ghost image appearing in the composition background. I can't figure out how it got there or how to remove it. It's really annoyong as the image also appears in rendered videos.
This only seems to appear when my composition settings is set at 1024 x 576 px, which I must use for projects. If I increase the composition size by 1 pixel, the image disappears, change it back and it reappears.
Please note, that there is no files in my project and the image still appears.

Update your graphics driver and flush the disk cache. This is an artifact that relates to that - eitehr the buffer reappears when you set it back to the old resolution or an invalid cache is pulled in. It only disappears when you change the resolution because naturally there is no previously stored data...

Help! "Ghost" screensaver interrupting work.....

I have a "ghost" screensaver which is opening and closing, opening and closing every minute and I cannot locate it anywhere in my files. It is from http://www.bbc.co.uk/space and it's called Space Screensaver. I don't recall ever loading it but my son tells me may have loaded it over a year ago. The past few days it has popped up occasionally as I write, play games, surf the net, whatever I'm doing but yesterday and today, it interrupts every minute or so and if I don't move my mouse, it stays on.
It is not in my screensaver file and I have my screensaver set to Never put a screensaver on!! Where can I find this and delete it? It's driving me crazy!!
Any help is greatly appreciated and asap as my son has a Webinar (web seminar) in just 30 minutes for school.

I do not have an Application Support file. When I click on Applications, there is no Library file and hence no Application Support file. And no support file just within the Application file either. Unless, the "~/" before Library/Application Support means something I'm not aware of...??
If nothing there, see if there is reference to it in
Applications and
~/Library/Application Support
There is nothing called BBC Space.plist in the Library/Preferences file. In fact, I've used the Finder to locate any file with BBC in it or even Space in it with no luck! I tell you, it's a ghost file! lol
If you still cant find it go to the
~/Library/Preferences and look for something called
BBC Space.plist. Use that name as a search in
Finder.
How can I delete this? In what window? I don't know how to do that. Can you clarify, please?
Also with System Preferences closed, you can delete
any files called.
~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.screensaver- -

Yup, I've re-entered the "re-selection" of Never putting on a screensaver at all and this thing is STILL popping up!!! I work from home and this is severely impacting my work performance. Help!

and make a selection just to register an action, then
reselect never if that's what you want and close Sys
Prefs.

HELP! Ghost Drives!

hi co-forumers,
i have been tolerant and quiet about this for ages, but can no longer stand this.
when attaching external usb drives to my macbook, Finder shows them all without any problem. however, when it comes to saving a file either from the internet or offline - via any application, basically - the Open windows of those applications reveal some "mysterious" duplicates of my external drives! e.g. if the drive's title is "200GB", i see "200GB 1", "200GB 2", "200GB 3", "200GB 4" (it originally started with just one duplicate for each drive, now their number is growing, though)...
the problem is that i don't know where those duplicates are located. i figured out that my actual drive is "200GB 4" (for some unknown reason), BUT - if i fail to specify that exact location of the real drive at the moment of saving a file, the file is saved on one of those duplicates, ghost drives, which i can't access via FInder (as i don't know where they are!).
hence, dozens of important files have been saved on those ghost drives and gone for good.
please help me out, will you?!

There is an invisible folder named /Volumes at the root level of your internal drive which is supposed to contain only the "mount points" for your volumes, but sometimes an actual folder can mistakenly get created there, possibly as a result of a failed copy operation. If /Volumes contains such a "ghost" folder with the same name as an external volume, then it might be unable to mount the real external volume without changing the name of the mount point. Such ghost folders can also waste a lot of disk space.
/Volumes is a hidden folder, but it's easy to peek into it. First you should eject and then physically disconnect all external drives. Then:
Finder>Go menu> Go to Folder
enter /Volumes and click Go
You should see an alias to the startup volume. Don't touch this, or any other aliases. Do you also see any folders which are NOT aliases, with names and sizes similar to the external volumes?
If so, drag them to the desktop, reboot, and retrieve any missing files that are not present in the real external volumes. Once you have retrieved all you need, you can put the ghost folders in the trash. Now re-connect the real external drives and check their mount points in Disk Utility - they should no longer have an added number. If all seems well, and you have all your files, you can empty the trash.

Help with gradient and 'ghost effect'

Hello. I created this image many years ago and I have forgotten how I did it.
I now want to create the same effect with this image ..
The brown is #a03506 - I have tried in vain to replicate what I did. Radial gradient? I just can't remember.
Can anyone help me please?

It's a little hard to tell what the original image looks like, but I'll give you some ideas of what you can do.
I'm assuming you want something like this:
If so, you need to turn the image into a layer.
Double click the thumbnail of the image in the Layers panel.
This opens the New Layer dialog box.
You don't have to do anything here. Just click OK. The image is now its own layer.
Click at the bottom of the Layers panel on the Add Layer Mask icon.
This adds a rectangle next to the image in the Layers panel. This rectangle is the layer mask. Anything you put in this rectangle will hide parts of the image.
Make sure the four "corners" of the layer mask are chosen, NOT the four corners of the image. This means that what you are about to do will affect only the image. (Don't worry about screwing up your image. Your working on the mask, not the image.)
Now go and choose the Gradient tool from the Tools panel.
Now, take the Gradient tool and position it over the image. For the ghost image I showed at the top of this post, I put the tool in the center and then dragged down to the bottom of the image. Look carefully and you can see the little line to the right of the door.
Release the mouse. The image should be ghosted.
Now, look at the Layers panel. See how the rectangle for the layer mask goes from white to black? That's because you drew a gradient on the mask. And anywhere there was black, you can't see the image and anywhere there is white you can. And there is change in opacity as the rectangle goes from white to black.
I like to teach people that the layer mask is like a dirty window. Where the window is clean, you can see through it to see the image. Where the window is black, you can't see the image. And anything in between lets you see a percentage of the image.
If you want a different effect, you can change the gradient shape. With the gradient tool still chosen, go to the top of the window and choose another gradient. For instance, radial. Then drag on the image making sure the layer mask is still chosen in the Layers panel.
This will change the appearance of the layer mask and the effect on the image.
You can use gradients or brushes or anything on the layer mask. Just make sure it is chosen and not the image or you'll be screwing up the image, not the mask.
Let us know if this is what you need.

Has there been any helpful remedy for the ghost typing issue? Where the ipad starts typing on its own and screens moving around the screen?
I have had the ipad 1 for a while- and it started about 5 months ago. Anything other than shutting down and leaving alone for hours work?

Yeah, well if you read that whole thread you will see lots of posts identifying it as a hardware problem:
I'm the original poster on this thread. I ended up taking my iPad back to the Apple Store. They ran some diagnostics, and found that my RAM was almost maxed out, which didn't really make sense. It indicated a faulty processor, so they gave me a new iPad. I took it home, synched, and it only took about 45 minutes to synch 30 gigs of data. My original iPad took about 5 hours to synch for the first time. Clearly there was a problem with the processor in the first one, but I didn't realize it at first, as it took several weeks before it started exhibiting the erratic screen behavior. Hope this helps anyone else who might experience this down the line.

So i went to my apple store... which was PACKED. Found a manager and explained my problem. Without any question, they simply replaced it. Awesome!

I have the same problem, and I found out what's wrong, it's not the software - restart, restore and FW upgrade will not help, it's definitely hardware. The best option is to replace your iPad assuming you have an apple store nearby…
