Animations (swfs) not opening in CP5
I have converted my CP4 programs to CP5 to run on a CD. The Flash animations I converted to SWFs in CP3 as a Menubuilder SWF to be able to open up the animation when clicked in a pop-up window (the pop-up blocker is off when viewing in HTM) - these Menubuilder SWFs worked to perfection in CP4 by opening up when clicked and being able to navigate from module to module (as Menubuilder SWFs) on thru the Internet viewer. What I have done is delete the original CP4 animations and inserted new ones within the CP5 program > published it and the Menubuilder SWF objects did not work. Any ideas why this is happening? Captiv8r originally helped me set up the CP3 Menubuilder SWFs...
Thank you!
Lilybiri is right on the money - CP3 was purely AS2 and you cannot mix AS2 and AS3 projects.
@Lilybiri - AS4? *Sigh* I was just starting to get the hang of AS3 and now we are already switching to AS4 ;o)

Hi,
I have created a swf that has a motion tween created in AS3.
Basically it is a timer that starts a function that adds a 'springy' effect to a movieClip. It works in flash, and it works everywhere i use it but Cp5. I call the file in at 0 seconds, and another time at 4 seconds. Those swf's pop up at the correct time, but they don't animate.
Any suggestions? That's probably because they've already run their animation by the time they get to the slide where you want them to play.
This behaviour is well known if your animations are buried in a symbol that sits on the main timeline of your Flash movie.
If you have the animation playing on the main timeline (instead of being encapsulated inside a symbol) your animation should play properly in Cp5. -
Swf files will not open in firefox
hi,
I can not get my pages where I have swf files to open in firefox. I have several pages
with sound also and they will not open. here is the code that I am using. I have probably
8 pages of flash and the rest of the pages are javascript and html.

This is a magazine on the web and prior issues have loaded in firefox using the same code but not the pages with sound.
I hope someone can help. I have no problems in internet explorer. I am having problems with apple also. I figured if I got firefox working then apple would work. again in prior issues, we could see the pages in apple.

Downloaded Trial Version of CP5 but will not open?
Went through all the required steps through adobe website to download the trail version of CP5 but now that im trying to open it, it keeps freezing up and will not open the program?
Any help with this or anyone else experiencing this problem? would a choppy internet cause a problem like this ?
any and all help is appreciated !What 64bit OS version are you on?
I have Win7 64bit and this is what I see on my C drive:
Notice that there is a Program Files directory - this is the one for 64 bit apps - and a separate Program Files (x86) directory - this is for 32 bit apps running in a 64 bit environment.
Do you see anything like this when you browse your C drive? Can you take a screenshot of the folders you see and insert the graphic in your post? -
I recently ended the task of trying to save my Captivate project because it wasn't responding. Prior to it not responding, I tried to insert an animation (swf.) and received the prompt that the video was created with Actionscript2 instead of Actionscript3 and that I ran the risk of the file or the video not correctly if I continued. I continued to add the video anyway, since it has worked before.
Now I'm trying to open the project file and it won't let me. I get this message after several minutes of 'extracting files':
Please help.
Thanks!Hello,
Welcome to Adobe Fourms.
If you have folders for today's and yesterdays's date under "Adobe Captivate Cached Projects" folder (In My Documents), then you can try steps from this blog :

Show a Flash animation frame when opening a Powerpoint presentation
Hi all,
I have a Powerpoint presentation that embeds a Flash
animation (swf file). I use Powerpoint 2003 and a Flash 9
animation.
The problem is that when the presentation is opened, no image
(in fact a frame of the Flash animation) appears on the slide that
contains the Flash object. Instead, a blank rectangle is displayed.
To make it appear, I must start the presentation in slide
show mode (here the animation is playing) and then return to
'Normal' view. The last animation image is then shown on the slide.
From now, if I save the presentation, close it and then reopen it,
no image is shown.
I have tried with different Flash animation versions and
noticed that an image is displayed for Flash animation when
compiled in Flash 7. In a Flash 8 animation, no image appears too.
It seems that a change since Flash version 8 avoids an image to be
displayed when opening the Powerpoint presentation.
Has anyone already met this ? Are there security or other
changes that will prevent a frame to be displayed when opening the
presentation ? Any ideas or Internet links will be appreciated.
ThanksHi Dave and thanks for the answer.
My embedded movie is playing well when we start the slideshow
mode for the presentation, because it uses the installed activeX
component (version 9 installed) to render it.
My problem is that no image (ie the last movie frame
displayed before exiting the slide show) is displayed the next time
the presentation opens, even if the file is saved.
Did you mean that, because the activeX version is newer than
the PowerPoint 2003 release date, the PowerPoint application is not
able to get the image (frame) the next time the presentation opens
(that is, the image to display is embedded into the activeX at a
specific location, which has changed between Flash player version 7
and 8) ?
PS: 1) I have opened the Flash 8 presentation in PowerPoint
2007 and an image is shown on the slide, which might confirm that
PowerPoint 2003 is too old to find the frame to be displayed.
2) I searched into the in-line/off-line documentation and I
found no paragraph speaking of the Flash version limitation.
Let me know if I am right.
Thanks again for the time taken to answer me.

Animation swf in captivate : how to control it?
Hello
I have 3 objects in my scene :
An Animation swf, with Visible option not actived
A Hide button, with Visible option not actived
A Open button, visible
When I click the Open button, I want the animation swf and the hide button to become visible.
I’v got two problems :
On the Open button, I assign advanced actions :
- Show Animation swf
- Show StopButton
When I just put the first action (show swf), I’ve got no problem.
When I add the second action, only the Stop button appears. I don't understand why the second action "destroy" the first.
When I click on the button for the first time, the swf appears, and begin to play. Then I close it on clicking the stop button. When I want to play again the animation, it begins from where it stopped the first time. I’d like it to begin from the begining each time.
I hope my english is not too bad.
ThanksAbout my first problem :
The first time I click the open Button, only the Hide button appears. Then I click this hide button, to hide the hide button (the hide button hide the swf and itself).
Then I click again to the open buton, and this time, the swf and the hide button appear. -
Why are animated gifs not displaying animations in the preview?
Why are animated gifs not displaying animations in the preview?
My coworkers and I are not seeing a animation in the preview pane in Adobe Bridge CS6 even when clicking the play button in the preview window. However, we do see a graphic of the first frame and one person sees 1 frame when clicking play and one other frame and then the animation stops, however, that is not the complete animation.
I'm using Windows 7 32 bit
My coworkers are using a mac.
One coworker has apple OS Mountain Lion with a Intel Quad-Core Xeon – 64 bit system.
Is this fixable or in the works as a patch? Otherwise we have to open these docs in a browser in order to view them properly.I've just come to the realization that some animated gifs do play fine and others do not. A coworker of mine suggests that if it's an animation made via Adobe Photoshop, it'll work in bridge but will not if it's made using something else.

File exported as ePub from inDesign not opening in Stanza, known bug?
Hello,
I've just started to learn how to export documents to EPUB format using inDesign CS5 7.0.3 on Mac OSX. I've found that the exported books can be opened in Adobe Digital Editions, but not on Stanza.
The error I am getting in Stanza is:
Could not load book
Could not find required entry in archive: OEBPS/\Q7%20laws.xthml\E Available entries are: [META-INF/container.xml ...
After a lot of trial and error I came to find out that apparently, the error was generated by the original .indd file name: When the inDesign original filename is "7 laws.indd" Stanza will not open the file.
However, if I remove the spaces from the filename (changing to "7laws.indd") it opens with no problem.
If this case turns to be true for all user of the latest version of inDesign, I believe that the EPUB exporter should:
a) Convert the spaces in the filename to dashes (or something akin)
b) At least warn that the file name with spaces can cause trouble on some readers.
I wonder if the inDesign dev team, is aware of this and/or if this issue also affects Windows users.
If so, could it be fixed on an upcoming patch?

Firefox has not allowed my computer to shut down normally for months.
I created a whole new user with a new Firefox profile, but when I quit Firefox or try to do a shutdown, Firefox closes it's windows but leaves the small dot under it's icon on the doc. Force quitting does nothing. If I click on the icon I get nothing if I go to the application folder and double click on Firefox, I get this: The application “Firefox.app” is not open anymore.
I'm using Chrome because the only way to run firefox (without a forced shutdown) is to copy the Firefox app to another name and run that. BTW, I've also deleted all the parentlock files from my system (several times). If this cannot be solved I'll have to switch to Chrome (as much as I hate Google)!

Reader X: DDE Open command can open Reader but not open a specified target PDF
Once again Adobe has issued an update which breaks existing business systems. After the fiasco of Reader 9.3.4 failing to open external files such as SWF or XLS, the new Reader X is not opening the requested PDF when called via DDE.
The Reader X always opens with a "What do you want to do?" panel, offering various manually selected actions. What is required is for the Reader to open the PDF file specified in the DDE call, as it has done in all previous versions.
Is there a fix for this, or an alternative calling mechanism?
We have an external application which allows students to navigate around the various modules and lessons within their course. When they select a lesson, a DDE call is raised to request the appropriate lesson PDF to open in Reader. The external program uses a small floating, semi-transparent form, which allows easy lesson selection, automatic bookmarking and other functions. This functionality could not be achieved with simple PDF full of hyperlinks to the lessons.
The further problem is that many hundreds of these various courses are already in use by students around the world. We cannot easily prevent them from accepting upgrades to Reader X, nor supply them all with an alternative control method. All we can do is suggest anyone experiencing this problem to dump the new version and download version 9.4
Has anyone any ideas to fix the broken functionality in Reader X, or a satisfactory way to work around this failure ?
Thanks
skippermq
[signature deleted by host]Thanks for your contribution Dave.
The DDE call should not be case sensitive. Various writings on this page quote Acroview and AcroView, but I have tried various combinations and results are the same whatever case is used. It is acroviewR10 which I have used with success in my updated calls.
ManishPali has not responded to my question of where he found these R10 and A10 settings, but if these were intended to be the only access, they can give rise to even more scope for program failure. The majority of users will have only the free Reader, but some may have the full Acrobat program, and not Reader. So when we use 'acroviewR10' in our call, anyone with only Acrobat will again find the program failing.
Also of note is that using 'acroview' works in a call to open Reader X, but will not work to close Reader X or to open a PDF within Reader X. Why is one service still recognising the plain acroview, but the other services require the R10 suffix?
Dave says that this should be fixed in version 10.0.1, but is this just a hope, or a statement of intent from someone involved with Reader development? If this is fixed, how long will it take for that next release to be in common circulation?
In the meantime, we are preparing patches to send to any students who experience this problem, and also upgrading the master CD for each Course to add an option to the Config menu, allowing the user to select Reader X or not.
I think the developers at Adobe believe every user is within a corporation with centralised IT control, so everyone has the same, known version of any software and can be given new versions or advised of issues at will. In the real world, there are millions of independent users scattered across the globe who have no IT support and often have limited knowledge. For example, it is not uncommon to ask a user which version of Windows they are running and be quoted their MS Office version instead. Any extra complication in setting up or using their new software is a significant problem likely to result in lengthy support calls, and a loss of confidence in the product.

Keynote will not open presentation which was edited 5 days ago in Keynote 6
Anyone having this problem? Trying to open a presentation in Keynote 6.0 (1473). Double clicking the file provides the opening animation but no window appears with the presentation. I have also had two kernel panics due to this new Keynote but for the most part it seemed to be getting along fine with old and new presentations. Time for a reboot....feel as if I am back in the 90s. You'd think I would have learned to tread carefully by now.

Console message in safe mode was:

Or, something may have dirtied layout in the middle of updating it. Both are programming errors in Cocoa Autolayout. The former is pretty likely to arise if some pre-Cocoa Autolayout class had a method called layout, but it should be fixed.
When I rebooted Numbers behaved normally. I have run Etrecheck, fixed permissions, run Onyx, checked the Console logs. Not sure what is going on. This morning Numbers, Pages, Text Edit, Preview and Keynote all ignoring double click to open, or Open recent. When I tried open with the Finder on a highlighted file for a pdf I got:

XML MAPPING - swf not updating
When I make a change to the xml file it is not picking up the change in my published swf file. When I open the project in CX and refresh the mapping updates.
So it is connected but when I click on "refresh" on the sxf it is not updating.
I have xml maps, added in the data connection manager, with a refresh button tied to the xml connection. I also have the refresh on load checked in the connection manager.
Need help.
Thanks
MarkShamim my scenario was that I wanted the SWF on a network so that a call center employee could access the file from a mapped drive, open the file direct on her/his client machine. My problem was that I developed the file on the server machine and mapped the data connection path to the XML initially from the server, not the scenario of a client machine's path looking for the file. (not sure if cache is the right term)
Initial Path from server development.. D:\Datafiles\data.xml
The client machine(s) network path, mapped drive was Z: for example. In the excelsius model you need to bind the data path to the excel model and hardcode the Path that the client machines will go thru to access the data. This solved my issue perfectly. Z or name of the mapped drive mapped to the server.
Z:\Datafiles\data.xml
So now if your on the server machine and try to open the file from the swf you will incur the error message that correlates to the swf not being able to find the data. From the clients works fine but not from the server machine as the path has to be exact for the swf to find the data file.
Hope this helps.
I have a question for trying to deploy this same example on th server embedded into a swf movie player to the web. Might have been my path issue, cross domain policy file... But I could not get it to be deployed in a website, live. If you are familiar with this please explain to me.
