Annoying XDB login screen

XDB login screen appears all the time when running installed demo applications
11g fresh install on redhat linux, installed demo applications, and every click presents an annoying XDB login screen (which needs to be cancelled to access the application screen).
running rdbms/admin/epgstat.sql reveals that

| ANONYMOUS access to the repository must be allowed. |
Allow repository anonymous access?
false
The XDB login screen no longer appears that frequently after running the custom script listed by
Pravednik in this link http://kr.forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=641846
QUESTION 1) What is the recommended way to make the Allow repository anonymous access = true ?
The problem still persists when apex the browser attempts to display images from the database.
for example:

QUESTION 2) how to tell XDB not to authenticate such image access?

  • USB devices cause a crash at Lion login screen

Since I have installed MacOS X Lion I am experiencing regular crashes at the login screen at startup.
These crashes occur virtually always when
+ a USB device that was connected at the previous shutdown is missing at next launch
+ a USB device that was not connected at previous shutdown is connected at next launch
The type of the device does not make a difference.
I have had this with USB sticks, but also with my Wacom graphics tablet and a regular USB hard disk (connected via two USB ports).
This is extremely annoying and I had hoped this would be fixed with the latest Lion upgrade, but it is not.
Anyone out there has an idea for an easy fix?

    Guys -
am I really the only person who sees this?
This is a serious issue and I also see it happening upon connecting certain USB devices (e.g. today a Garmin nüvi 1250) while running Lion. Non of the OS updates since I posted this helped.
I feel like I am running Windows here...

  • Macbook pro does not respond to bluetooth keyboard and mouse at login screen

i've seen this question floating around and i don't think i've found one that has been resolved. i'm hoping someone may have an answer by now.
i do not have this issue when i boot into windows 7 (bootcamp) the macbook pro responds to keyboard input and mouse input immediately on the windows 7 login screen. when i boot into mac, there is no response from either. i've seen suggestions of waiting for 30 secods. i still get nothing after waiting for over a minute.
what i do right now is use the built-in touch pad and keyboard of the macbook pro to get past the login screen. once i'm logged in, i can see that the bluetooth devices are not yet connected (the three dots that go across the bluetooth symbol at the top right of the screen are not yet there). then after a while, maybe about half a minute, the bluetooth keyboard and mouse are connected and i can use them normally.
it is not a big deal but it is very annoying.
i am using a logitech bluetooth mouse (v740) and an adesso bluetooth keyboard (wkb-4000bm). i also tried an azio bluetooth keyboard and had the same issue. all these keyboards are made for mac.
    thannks in advance.

just a correction, the keyboard and mouse don't always automatically reconnect once i'm logged in. most of the time i have to go click the bluetooth icon at the top right of my screen, select the mouse and then select "connect". i have to do the same to the keyboard.

  • ACD 23" - No Image Until Vista Login Screen

System: Windows Vista 32-bit Business Edition
    Processor: 3.06 Ghz P4
    Video Card: Raedon 9800 XT
Hopefully someone can give me some clarification on this. But when I boot up my PC none of my boot up screens are visable on my 23" ACD. I cannot view the prompts to access my bios or anything until my PC loads Windows Vista up to the Login Screen. Everything is fine after that. Is this because my BIOS runs at a non-supported resolution? Is there anyway to get this to work? Currently I have to hook up another monitor if I need to make any BIOS changes and its really annoying. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

When I was searching I didn't realize it was only looking at the last 90 days. Sorry for the post.

  • Login Screen, custom shortcut keys possible?

I'd like to create a keyboard shortcut to "lock the screen" (login screen). I read through the helpfile and it's not clear this is possible.
I'd like, for example to do Apple-L to get that to work.
    Is this possible?

QuickEdit, thanks for the help! Sorry not to reply sooner -- was away for a bit and have only had a chance to play around.
Based on your recommendation, I did some research on QuicKeys and also found another, similar program iKey (http://www.scriptsoftware.com/ikey/). I downloaded trial versions of both, and found iKey easier to manage. Plus it was cheaper ($30 versus 79.95). I was able to assign shortcut keys using modifiers (alt, cmd, ctl) and the keys that Apple won't let you assign via Keyboard preferences (home, end, forward delete, arrows). I even set up some customized menus or more complex actions (automate) with shortcut key triggers (e.g., creating a footer and inserting a file name and path in a word document with two keystrokes; opening itunes finding a radio station and begin streaming it live with two keystrokes). I'm sure that some of this can be done with automater or applescripts, but since I'm new to apple, I'm happy to start with this.
iKey does have one annoying feature that I discovered -- you can set keyboard shortcuts to operate in different contexts (e.g., Finder front, Safari not running) but you cannot use the same keyboard shortcut to launch different actions in mutually exclusive contexts.
By the way, I called Apple support about this question before I started playing with either of the programs. The person I talked to made a special call over to the OS X division and confirmed that forward delete cannot be assigned in user-defined keyboard shortcuts -- "yet." No one was clear if this capability might be developed in the future.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • Login screen appears on wrong monitor

This problem started when I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite 10.10.2. It persists on 10.10.3
I have two monitors; the main one is 26", the other is 17". Both are NEC. The main monitor connects with a DVI-to-Mini display port adapter. The 2nd with a VGA to DVI adapter. Video card is the stock AMD 5770 with one DVI two mini display port connectors.
On startup, the Apple logo appears on my main monitor, as expected. Then the login screen comes up on the 2nd monitor. Once I'm logged in, the main monitor becomes the primary display again (according to my user account display preferences).
I've checked all the preferences, reset the NVram and the SMC, and tried plugging the the main monitor into the other display port. Nothing changes this.
It's not a big problem, but it's annoying.
    Any thoughts?

You can change the arrangement of the displays, and assign a primary one in the Displays system preferences (done by dragging the menu bar to the preferred primary display). However, this will not change what display is identified first by your hardware. If you have FileVault enabled, then the login screen you see will be loaded before the operating system is loaded. This login screen simply mimics the OS X login screen, but is in fact stored elsewhere on your disk and used to unlock it. As a result, this login screen will be shown on the display that is identified as the primary one in hardware, and then when OS X loads this may switch depending on your settings in the Displays preferences. Your options here are to either move your monitors on your desk, swap their connections to your Mac, or adjust the primary one along with the arrangement of them in the Displays system preferences (or a combination of these three) to find a setup that works as you want.
    1. When you initially boot and see the login screen, note the connection of this monitor to your Mac. This port is the primary one.
    2. Connect this port to the display you want to be the primary one (to show your login window, etc.)
    3. Once booted to OS X, go to the displays system preferences and ensure the menu bar icon is dragged to this monitor so OS X identifies it as the primary one.
    4. Adjust your display's arrangement accordingly in these system preferences.

  • 10.6.5 update killed my computer, crashes at login screen

I've just installed the latest software update, which was applied without any errors or problems. When I restarted, it crashed at the login screen with the spinning wheel. Every single time it's booted this happens, although sometimes I am able to click Login, but it crashes immediately afterwards. There's no disk activity when it crashes on the wheel.
However, in Safe Mode it boots up just fine. I have nothing in Macbook HD/Library/Startup items, and no login items on any account, which shoots down my theory of it being a 3rd party issue.
Any help would be much appreciated. I've had problems with pretty much every software update from Apple...fills me with dread whenever I have to install a new one.
    Thanks in advance.

All my stuff's backed up nice and safe weekly, although it's not a Time Machine backup since I'd like to access it easily from a Windows machine.
Thanks for the reminder about Console! Handy. Launchd showed that the Blackberry daemon was crashing on startup...which is annoying as I thought I'd removed all Blackberry software from this machine over a year ago. Anyway, I unloaded and properly removed BBDaemon and all works fine now. Guess it must have been some incompatibility with the update.
I also found a whole load of other Blackberry Desktop Manager crap still lurking around. This thread shows all the stuff which the installer fails to remove, might be handy for someone having a similar daemon problem:

  • Good news! Removing "other user" from login screen.

I got a brand new macbook pro days ago. All are amazing, except the annoying "other user" on the login screen. I have googled and tried every possible solution such as disabling root user, changing user's name, deleting and etc.

My login screen seems to use the last chosen language on the system, not the default language (English), what makes my password be written in a different language.

    OS X Mavericks Upgrade Issue
Now when I boot my iMac, a new gray screen appears for a few seconds following the Apple screen and just before the login screen.  The new screen shows several boxes with unidentifiable figures in them.  It has become annoying because it has never appeared before.   Anyone know of a way to stop this screen (of garbage) from showing?  Thanks…Larry

  • Scared to turn it off -  imac reaches login screen, then shuts down

My imac recently developed a problem on startup. I see the folder icon with question mark on it for a moment (never used to see that), then it gets as far as the login screen and then goes dead. When I press the button to restart it, nothing happens. If I leave it a while, and/or reseat the power cable a couple of times then it will start ok, if I'm lucky!
So I was leaving it on all the time, which seemed ok, but I enabled the "put hard disk to sleep option" last night. This morning it went dead when I tried to bring it out of sleep mode.
I have taken the back off and checked the diagnostic LEDs. It had LED 1 on ok, and when I started it up using the internal button, it got as far as 3 LEDs, then went dead again. After going dead, no LEDs.
After trying a reset, I put the back on again and eventually (pressing the button and waiting, then trying again a few times) it started ok.
So now I have disabled the hard drive sleep option and left the computer on -I really am scared to even put it to sleep!
Sorry for the long post, but I would appreciate any advice here.
    Thanks

It turned out to be bad capacitors again - bulging and leaking ones in the PSU.
I am very annoyed about this as the power supply was replaced under Applecare cover just over 1 year ago, along with the midplane, which had - you've guessed it- bad capacitors that had leaked.

  • Windows 8 tablet touch keyboard DISAPPEARED from login screen!

I recently bough an Asus VivoTab Smart running windows 8 and everything was fine up until today when at some point the touch keyboard stopped disappearing whenever i needed to log in to the tablet! its annoying to have to find the on-screen keyboard and
i would like to have the touch keyboard back.
I have tried restarting many times and that does nothing, i have tried updating the driver but i cant as it says that it already has the driver up to date and that its running properly!
Any help is appreciated! thank you,

I don't know if this will help you but it solved a similar problem I had on my Windows 8 touch PC:
If you are able to reach the Start/app tile screen or desktop and from there "view local services" which you can find by typing "services" in the Start screen scroll down the list until you come to the "Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service" which
should say "Automatic (triggered)" and "Running"
From there "right-click" that service (or otherwise get into its properties), click the "Log On" Tab, click the first option under "Log on as:" (circle button "Local System account") and make sure to Check box "Allow service to interact with desktop"
For me this box somehow became unchecked when I "Refreshed" my windows 8 to solve another issue. Once I checked the box, the keyboard started to reappear at the login screen.

  • Blank Login screen - DNS issue

At my company's site we seem to be experiencing an intermittant blank login screen but only for the microsoft sign in page, the Skype sign in page loads up fine.
When skype loads up we get this screen:
And the users choose "Microsoft account". They should then see this screen:
    Instead they get this:
At the bottom there is a warning message saying the following:
"This page contains errors. Go back"
The site is using OpenDNS to filter DNS queries for the PCS and the policy is fairly locked down.
On any affected PC, if I:
    - Close Skype
    - Point the DNS settings to something like 8.8.8.8 (google's DNS server)
    - Load up skype
The login screen (image 2) loads up normally. The user can login and I can then flip back the DNS settings to the OpenDNS server and there are no further issues.
What this means is that Skype is trying to contact a Microsoft/Skype server somewhere on the interent and because it is not on my OpenDNS whitelist it gets blocked and fails like in image 3.
My question is can anyone tell me what the server is? I went through the OpenDNS logs and whitelisted a bunch of microsoft stuff and some other things related to certificates but still no luck.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Evetually I took Techfreak's suggestion and sniffed the packets with wireshark. Was annoyed to discover that the root cause of the issue was suspiciously named sb.symcd.com.
Some quick Google-fu led me to a page which advised that this domain should be whitelisted for Lync installations. Hmm.
Why microsoft could not use more intuitive/descriptive server names is a mystery. Anyway, I whitelisted *.symcd.com and from the limited testing it appears to be resolved.

  • Login Screen (Unwanted Information)

I read an article about how to display such items as the date and time on your login screen, and found it interesting so I tried it by typing: "defaults write /Library/Preferences/com/apple/loginwindow AdminHostInfo Time" into terminal, but I can't seem to figure out how to undo this. When I boot to the login screen, it now display the current date and time. (I wouldn't mind it displaying the date only, but the time is just annoying) Please help me go back to the default setting for this function.
iMac (Intel Core Duo)   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi, Etown88.
    You've learned two important lessons:
    1. Undocumented features are undocumented for a reason.
    2. Never try "tricks" you read in magazines or on the Web unless they also clearly specify how to undo the trick. In fact, you should skip tricks like this: review Lesson 1 above.
The specific "trick" you cite was in Macworld recently and can be found on their web site here and here, the latter under the heading "Make your login window informative".
You'll also note at the end of the second article that it contains a correction: sometimes tricks have typos that can really ruin your day.
The "trick" probably originated as a post on the Mac OS X Hints site since the column was written by Rob Griffiths who runs that site.
To "undo" this, simply specify HostName, which is the default:
    defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow AdminHostInfo HostName
This is stated in the articles cited above, but one has to realize it as its stated subtly, e.g."• HostName to show the default display"Good luck!

  • After Gnome upgrade GDM login screen always says "Other..." [SOLVED]

After the recent Gnome upgrade GDM login screen started looking strange:
It shows a blue (highlighted?) disabled editbox that says "Other..." which I now must click on to get the usual username/password edit boxes. WTF?
Pressing Enter won't do anything, it wants a mouse click. I find it extremely annoying to click on the stupid thing every time I need to login. I have waited a couple of weeks hoping this would come up in Google searches but it didn't.
Can't do a screenshot of a login prompt.
Seems like the login is supposed to show a list of users plus "Other" thing at the bottom. But I'm not getting the list, just "Other..." box.
Last edited by softtower (2010-10-12 01:13:30)

I haven't touched that setting and the list of users is visible for me (in addition to the Other... option).
    # sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 --get /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/disable_user_list
    false
There, however, is the annoying issue that focus is initially outside the login box. I have to press arrow down before pressing enter to select a user. Perhaps that behavior would make more sense if I had several users on the system (i.e. the first one on the list would not necessarily be me).
