Any issue and/or advice with activation of global password policy (10.9 osx server) ?

I have an OD domain (10.9.1 server) with 20 users mobile account (10.9.1 osx) authentification, I’d like to enable a global password policy, and I'm curious what actually happens when I add some policy in Server Admin > Open Directory > gear > edit global password policy?
If I set a "reset every 45 days" option, is that from the time the policy is enabled, or from the time the user account was created?
Any issue with Keychain ?
If I set a "must have one letter" or "numeric character", etc...and the user doesn't currently have a password that matches this criteria, will they be forced to set a new password immediately, or the next time one is initiated, did the account will be disable?
I just trying to prevent any bad experience for the users.

Hi,
The 45 days will start from the moment you enable that setting for all active users, and will start whenever you create a new OD user.
There won't be any issues with Keychain, it will updated when a new password is set. On that specific day when they login or restart, they need to choose a new password. Keychain will update automatically.
The new policy will start working after the 45 days have been set. After 45 days that policy will be enforced, not before, users can continue to work with a less secure password. About 10 days before that deadline or earlier they will get an option in their login screen to renew their password because it will inform them it will expire soon.
You might want to notify all users of a new password policy when you set it and then inform them again about a week before it will expire. That will ensure a smooth transition...

The setup:
We have the option "Password must: be reset on first user login" enabled in the Global Password Policy on our 10.9 / Mavericks server. We import new user accounts into Open Directory via a delimited text file and include a default password for each user.
What I've observed and tested:
When a user attempts to log into a computer that's bound to our Open Directory for the first time, they can enter anything in the password field and still receive the prompt to reset their password. They are never notified that they entered their default password incorrectly. The password reset will then fail (as it should), but they still aren't notified that this is the reason for the password reset failure. To put it another way: Seeing the prompt to reset your password would reasonably imply that you entered the default password correctly, but that's not the case at all.
The question:
Is this expected behavior? If it is, it doesn't seem logical. If this was the case in OS X Server 10.3 through 10.7 I never noticed it. Can anyone corroborate this with their own setup? Thanks in advance.

I have enabled the ldap-sync with Active Directory in OIM11gR2. I followed the below document to enable the ldap-sync.

For testing if ldap sync is working on not . I run the LDAPSync Post Enable Provision Users to LDAP schedule job. While running the job i encounter below exception in log. Please provide me some pointer to solve my issue. How we can sure ldap sync is configure properly? Please provide me some steps to test it out?

BT Infinity issues and only been with them since 4...
I have been so looking forward to faster broadband, religously checking the availability of infinity for my area for months and eventually hey-ho here it is. After having a HH3 on BT BB for years and not a single issue I thought awesome same reliability and faster too. How could I be so wrong!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had BT Infinity for 13 days.
Day.1: The line started out at 79Mb (300 metres from street cabinet) really good performance.
Day.2 Line still fast but orange light on HH5 periodically. (still it is training isn't it?)
Day.3 The line keep dropping out more and more. Fast when it works though!
Day.4 Keep getting resolving host issues and line droppping out??? (still it is training isn't it?)
Day.5 My daughter is asking to put the old one back on as she is going into facebook withdrawal
Day.6 I am thinking of putting the old one back in. Line droppping in and out. Checked the speed still good 76Mb.
Day.7 I am beginning to get disillusioned by this infinty business. The desktop help keeps telling me to call support as it cannot fix my problem. (still it is training isn't it?)
Day.8 Beginning to think this was a BIG MISTAKE! Still fast when it works 75Mb
Day.9 Very frustrated called BT customer support. They performed some tests and tell me the HH5 is knacked.
Day.10 & 11 More of the same. (still it is training isn't it?)
Day.12 Replacement HH5 turned up re-connect. Speed is 63Mb and after 2 hours exactly the same as the previous.
Orange lights, rsolving host issues and dropped connections. Called customer support. They performed the same tests and told me no fault and 63Mb is what I should be getting?.After getting 75Mb with a broken HH5, I was expecting at least the same. They also told me they could not reset the BB profile to re-train the line even though the HH5 was faulty?
Day.13 I am awaiting a call from customer support manager who will tell me that nothing is wrong. WTF is going on BT?A quick update. Got a call back from customer services and they have now found a fault on the network. Funny that!! Watch this space.

vstOne of the ways of triggering transactions in SAP using external systems is IDOCs
When the barcode scanner scans the barcode of the material, you can trigger the IDOC from that system which will send the material barcode, number of units, goods issue/goods receipt etc to your SAP system. Once that inbound IDOC is received in SAP, SAP will trigger the goods issue or goods receipt based on the kind of transaction.
If you can give the idea of IDOCs to your technical guy, he should be able to enable the solution. You may have to configure an IDOC in your SAP system, using teh standard IDOC type/message types meant for GI/GR

Boot Process with active EFI Firmware Password
I have a MacMini with Linux installed (for an embedded application) on the internal hard drive, and Mac OS X 10.5.6 available on an external Firewire / USB drive. The machine is a 1.83 MHz 2008 production unit with EFI version MM21.009A.B00 firmware installed (no later update is reported as available via the OS X Software Updater).
The system normally boots from the internal (Linux) disk without user interaction when first powered up.
In order to restrict users from starting the system from alternate devices, we activated an EFI firmware password. After doing so with the Open Firmware Password application on the OS X installer DVD (booted with option key and selecting the DVD icon, or with the C-key held), the system no longer automatically boots either of the two available hard disk devices. Rather a flashing file folder icon with question mark appears when the machine is powered up without any user interaction.
With the EFI password active, it is necessary to hold the option key down, enter the password, and then select the desired disk device icon (either internal Linux or external OS X device) in order to boot the system. It appears that the system can no longer automatically select a boot device when started up, even if only one is available. This requires that every user of the embedded system must know the EFI password in order to start the system. This seriously compromises the protections that a user would expect to achieve by using the EFI password capability.
Is this the expected performance of the firmware after the EFI password has been activated, or is this performance the result of a design flaw in the EFI code when the firmware password is active (i.e. is this a"feature" or a bug)?Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The EFI firmware protection is there for people who work in environments where their machines must be secure from intruders, and secures information in event the machine gets stolen. If that sort of protection is too much for your needs, just setup your security and account preferences to log out when energy saver and/or screen saver is activated, and automatic log on is disabled. That's pretty good unless a person who steals your machine or has access to your machine has the original discs which came with the Mac, or newer retail operating system (up to the limits of the machine's hardware). So consider how much security you need, and you can ask the system to be that secure. -
Issue with Lockout Duration in Password Policy in OAM
Hi,
We are facing an issue with the lockout duration configuration in the password policies in the identity manager interface for our OAM setup.
Oracle Access Manager 10g version 10.1.4
User/Policy Store: ADAM Ldap [Microsoft ADAM 2003]
After we lock out a user in our LDAP after 5 wrong attempts, the two attribute values in ADAM get updated to 5:
oblogintrycount
badPwdCount
Also I see that "oblockouttime" gets updated with an unix timestamp.
Now, we have set the "Lockout Duration" in the password policy as 1 hour. So, after 1 hour, the user should be unlocked in ADAM.
However, after 1 hour when the user tries to login, he/she gets the error that a wrong password has been entered for the userID.
When we check in ADAM, we see that the value of "oblogintrycount" was indeed reset. However the value of "badPwdCount" did not get reset and is still stuck at 5.
If we reset both these attribute values to 0, the user can login again.
Now, is OAM expected to reset both these attribute values to 0, or does it only reset the oblix attributes?
If it is the latter, is there a way around to resolve this issue? Or are we doing something wrong here?

Abhishek.OAM only works with the ob* attributes, and not with badPwdCount attribute of the AD (ADAM). I think for some reason the password and account policies of the AD is being triggerred. Disable the AD password policy and it will be Ok.

Mac OS X 10.5 Clients - Active Directory Login - Password Policy

I wonder if anyone can help me or give me some pointers.
I have a client who has a number of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard clients who sign-in and authenticate with a Window's Active Directory server which has a password policy to prompt users to change their login password every 30 days.
Today is the day they are required to change their login password and they do get message that says something like "0 days to change your password" but are not getting the subsequent dialogue box that allows them to change their password.
Any ideas?OOPs, missed which one we were talking about, sorry.

ARD Reporting failing and causing thousands of entries in my system.log for my OSX Server clients
I have a small four system network - all running latest version of Mavericks with latest (3.7.1 ARD)
1) OSX Server running File Sharing, DNS, OpenDirectory, Web
2) OSX Server running DNS (secondary), OpenDirectory (secondary)
3) OSX Server - installed but not running any services
4) OSX Client
When using ARD from any of the systems, any attempt to generage an ARD report targeting system #1 or #2 - the ARD report task stops at "Collecting Report Data" and I start seeing: sysinfocachegen[10506]: FSPathMakeRef error = -43 in the system.log that I'm targeting. Currently over 11000 entries in my last log file (rolled over) and am over 8000 already in the log file after my last test.
If I target systems 3 or 4, reporting works fine.
Any ideas what is going on here?I'm getting this error too.

WDK 8.1 update download issue and integration problem with VS Express 2013
I have VS Express 2013 in my machine and want to download the WDK 8.1 Update. However, I am facing two issues:
1. The download site says : "You have to register for downloading. Click on continue to register and download". On doing so it asks for what I want to download. Then it redirects to the page saying "Thank You for downloading". However,
it has been more than 10 times since yesterday and yet no file has popped up for download. It is the same problem with other machines.
2. On installing WDK 8.1 from softonic, it has created a separate folder and shows no way for its integration with VS express 2013. I do not get any "Windows driver functionalities" in VS Express 2013.
Could somebody point me where I am wrong.

ORACLE 8i INSTALLER WITH P4 ISSUES AND TNS ERROR WITH 9i
I want to thank those that have been of help on this subject matter. Finally after 2 agonised weeks, I was able to get around the Oracle 8i installer not able to run on my Pentium 4 laptop. Also having problem logging in to 9i SQL*PLUS. I just want to reinstate that by renaming the file symcjit.dll to symcjit.old does not work automatically. I tried it on Oracle 8.1.6 and 8.1.7(Enterprise/Standard/Personal) many times. Although it did work with Oracle Personal 8.1.6 at one point in time after the system has already 9i installed. After uninstalling the 9i, the installer stopped working again. I WAS NOT SURE IF ORACLE HAS THIS ORACLE 9i DATABASE ENTERPRISE/STANDARD/PERSONAL FOR WINDOWS NT/2000/XP ON CD. THE ONE I BOUGHT IS THE 9IAS AND 9IDS (2 Boxes) WHICH WILL NOT CONFIGURE YOUR DATABASE FOR YOU.
When I was about to give up after doing some more research, then I saw the download for "Oracle9i Database Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP". I followed the exact direction, but did everything in my directory and not DOS since I don't know the command for unzipping files in DOS. By unzipping all the files in their respective folders Disk1/Disk2/Disk3, and going to install/win32/setup.exe, the rest of the installation went smoothly, when the system prompt for the location of the next disk, just type 2 and then 3. The installation configured everything like tnsnmaes, instances, databases e.t.c. All I did was suppied the password for Sys and System.
By downloading this particular file, I was able to bypass any configuration which is a pain, but not for you DBA guys out there. THE DOCUMENTATION FOR THESE CD,s DID NOT GIVE EXACT STEP BY STEP FOR CONFIGURATION, ONLY INSTALLATION. I AM A DEVELOPER AND NOT A DBA. Orale 8i is more easy to confugure than 9i. I WAS ALSO ABLE TO INSTALL 6i, 9ids AND SQL NAVIGATOR ON TOP OF THIS 9i, AND ALL CONNECTIONS WORKED PERFECTLY BY USING SYS OR SYSTEM AND THE PASSWORD I SUPPLIED DURING INSTALLATION.

Are there any issues and potential solutions for large scale partitioning?
I am looking at a scenario that a careful and "optimised" design has been made for a system. However, It is still resulted in thousands of entities/tables due to the complex business requirements. The option of partitions must also be investigated due to large amount of data in each table. It could potentially result in thousands partitions on thousands tables, if not more.
Also assume that powerful computers, such as SPARC M9000, can be employed under such a scenario.
Keen to hear what your comments are. It will be helpful if you can back up your statements with evidence and keep in the context of this scenario.I did see your other thread, but kept away from it because it seemed to be getting a bit heated. Some points I did notice:
People suggested that a design involving "thousands" of entities must be bad. This is neither true not nor unusual. An EBS database may have fifty to a hundred thousand entities, no problem. It is not good or bad, just necessary.
The discussion of "how many partitions" got stuck on whether Oracle really can support thousand of partitions per table. Of course it can - though you may find case studies that if you go over twenty or thirty thousand for a table, performance may degrade (shared pool issues, if I remember correctly).
There was discussion of how many partitions anyone needs, with people suggesting "not many". Well, if you range partition per hour with 16 hash sub-partitions (not unreasonable in, for example, a telephone system) you have 384 per day which build up quite quickly unless you merge them.
You own situation has never been fully defined. A few hundred million rows in a few TB is not unusual at all. But when you say "I don't have a specific problem to solve" alarm bells ring: you are trying to solve a problem that does not exist? If you get partitioning right, the benefits can be huge; get it wrong, and it can be a disaster. Don't do it just because you can. You need to identify a problem and prove, mathematically, that your chosen partitioning strategy will fix it.

Has anyone had any issues after syncing 4s with ford sync
I do not recieve any notifications on my text messages after i paired my phone with my ford sync.
I am not trying to text......I have issues with my iphone not sending me alerts when i get a text after i paired it with my Ford. I know it cant send or read text messages. But now i dont get alerts even when it isnt paired. I dont know if this is a problem with the iphone or with the Ford Sync.
