Anybody using CMYK workflow?

I'm in a desperate need of a case study for my disertation on CMYK and RGB workflows.
I'm looking for somebody (graphic designer, studio, repro house or similar practices) who uses a CMYK workflow, meaning that the images are converted to the CMYK destination profile in the beginning of the workflow before any colour correction is performed. It is very important that this CMYK profile is the known output profile that the printer requests the work to be delivered in.
I would hugely appreciate if somebody working in such a workflow could offer me some of their time for a telephone/skype interview which I would use to write the case study. I would like to ask a few questions about how the conversion is performed, how the retouching and colour correction are done, InDesign settings, proofing, and delivery formats. If anybody could/would help me with this, please do get in touch with me here or via email: viktoriavass * gmail.com.
Even if somebody culd name such practice if would be glad to hear about it. I know finding such a practice sounds like an easy job, but actually many of those working in CMYK perfor the conversion withouth knowing the output profile.
I would also also be interested to hear about practices that use a medium binding workflow (converting images to destinatation profile after retouching, before placing them in the InDesign file) or an extreme late binding workflow (delivering RGB data to press, for exmple PDF/X-4.)

OK. “No Color Management” settings in the US defaults to US Web Coated SWOP v2. I don’t really know that, or care, but it’s what I’m using.
I calibrate my monitor, using the free calibrator that comes with my system OS. I have a decent monitor. But more importantly, I realize it’s not perfect, not by any means. And I accept that.
Remember I’m a CMYK numbers guy. That’s how I edit my images – by the numbers. The monitor is an RGB device, and it’s just ball park color. I have learned never to trust it fullly.
So I open all the RGBs. I’m casting the RGB profile for each to the side, even though I’m not aware of it. But that’s OK. Because I’m not staying in RGB.
I get it into CMYK RIGHT away. Because that is the native color space of my print design.
After Mode: CMYK, I make adjustments. Moderate adjustments, mind you. I concern myself with two things initiallly: color cast and tonal range. For the cast I pay special attention to the highlights and neutral midtones, using a selective color adjustment layer to get the desired numbers. A whites shift and neutrals shift can work wonders. It is very helpful with skintones, furniture, yuou name it. Any thing that’s supposed to be gray or silver –those are GREAT to reference. Stainlesss steel, pavement. The cyan a few clicks higher than the other two.
The tonal quaility, no problem there either. Two dark? Drop the midtone. Washed out? Bump up the three quarter. Flat? S-curve –up with the 3/4, down with the 1/4. Moving the quarter down is really helpful –it removes that unwanted color component you encounter quite often.
Man I am working wonders on these images.
I keep things organized. All adjustments are layered, then grouped (Initial Adjustments).
Now a little monkey wrench in the mix, but no worries. This job is going to the UK. What’s more it’s on an uncoated stock. I know they do things a little differently over there so I contact the printer directly. The biggest concern is always total ink limit. 260, they say.
I’m at 300 now. No problem. A simple mask on a layer and I knock it down to 260. You can’t even tell.
I also realize the dot gain will be a little more on uncoated stock. I make another curve layer, dropping the midtone. That’ll open things up a bit.
There’s a possibility the printer will use a different standard than what I’m used to seeing in the U.S.. But that’s OK. This being my first job sent to them, I need to get contract proofs on randoms. I’ve got 200 images, so I pick 20.
At this point, no guessing. I send off the images for proofing. Once I get the proofs back, then I can make more adjustments if necessary. Which will be an extremely simple process, and I’ll never need to go through it for the same printer again.
What do you think so far?
You’re my customer – tell me how the proofs look and we’ll go from there.

  • Anybody uses Oracle WorkFlow?

I'm trying to install Oracle Workflow but I've got no success. It gives me an error of incorrect password for the SYS user, just like when I was trying to install the WEBDB.
Then I was searching the forum for the word "WorkFlow" and there is 19 matches (now 20 I suppose!). There is any forum to discuss this product ? I have to evaluate it, but if anybody in the world is using it, I think I can't recommend it (it's not installing too...)

I had trouble with the same problem.
On my system there where the following situation:
some times ago I have installed a 8i Database Server and now I wanted to install Workflow 2.5. I have done this in another Oracle_Home-Directory, like discribed in Oracle Documentation.
If there is an quite similar situation on your system, the following could help you:
Do an entry in the controlpanel of WinNT under "system->environment" for the duration of installation. Set a value for the ORACLE_HOME-variable that points to the directory, where your WebDB is installed.
Then the oracle installer will find your service name in the file "tnsnames.ora" and is possible to connect to database.
    Regards.

  • How to create a Language Branch using custom workflow?

    Hi,
I’ve a requirement where I need to create a workflow process which will create a Language branch.  i.e I wanted to achieve the functionality using custom workflow as given in the docs: https://dev.day.com/docs/en/cq/current/administering/multi_site_manager.html#Managing the Translation of your Language Branches
    As per the OOTB functionality,
    1.     If the target page is not exist in the Language branch, it will copy the reference page to target path.
    2.     If the target page is already exists, it will not create a copy of the reference.
After the translation, if we make any changes in the reference page and activate the reference, then we have a button called 'Show side by Side' under Translation in the side kick which shows differences between reference page and translated page.
    Example:
So, I would like know how we can achieve this in my custom workflow process. In my workflow process, I’m checking whether the page is existed in the target path or not. If not exist, I used page copy.
    Eg: Page page = newPage.copy(originalPage,targetPath+"/"+originalPageName,null,true,true );
When I use above api, it just copies the page and it will not maintain any relation with reference page.
Any pointers would be more helpful.
    Thanks
    Siva

    Hi,
I have a similar request to export the texts from one language and after the translation to import them to the new language, did you find any solution? My question is how can I add some steps into my workflow to validate the imported data -and if the user validate the texts then proceed with next step(in my case I import the text from a file and generate a form with values). I read the documentation from Adobe but I didn't find anything related to how we can add a workflow to a dynamically generated from(I don't use the CQ form component).
Can anybody help me with this?
    Thx, Lorand

Oracle Workflow is only available as a component of EBS. It has never been available on, and is not certified for Oracle 11g, nor any version of XE.

  • Custom Workflow using Oracle Workflow in ContentDB

    Hi,
Could we use custom workflow which is made using Oracle Workflow instead of BPEL.
    Regards,
    Yulisar

Having registered custom workflows for Content DB via Enterprise Manager, potentially you can use any tool capable of dequeuing/enqueing messages from the IFS_BPEL_OUT/IFS_BPEL_IN advanced queues as part of a custom workflow process.
By default, we assume you are using Oracle BPEL PM with its Advanced Queue adapater to process the queue messages. However, there is nothing stopping using Oracle Workflow or any tool for that matter.
HOWEVER!!! Warning!!! There is a high probability that Content DB will drop the bundled Oracle Worflow installation in the near future. What this means, is that you should consider installing/configure/patching your own separate Oracle Workflow installation and not rely on the bundled Content DB solution which is used internally for Serial and Parallel Approval workflows.
    thanks,
    Matt.

  • Anybody using 11g RAC Database with OIM 9.1.0.2?

    Hi,
We have poor performance problems with 11g RAC Database with OIM 9.1.0.2.
It looks like the issue could be because of RAC Ccluster.
Anybody using 11g RAC Database with OIM 9.1.0.2?
If so, What is the JDBC Driver r u using? Also what App Server (Weblogic or OAS etc) ?
    Appreciate your input.
    Regards
    Vijay Chinnasamy

We are using weblogic 10.3. And I am sorry to tell you that we are yet to move to production.
We are planning to have Database in RAC, so i just thought of taking inputs from you.
can you tell me under what operations you face the poor performance issue?
For us the max no. of users in production is around 6k. So I am wondering how this RAC availability will affect the performance.
    Thanks for sharing your inputs.

  • Can Acrobat X Standard create PDF files from Microsoft Word, using "CMYK" color (required by most book printers) instead of "RGB" color?

I'd like to purchase Acrobat Standard if it will let me control the color space used in the PDF it creates.  I need to send a color file to a commercial book printer, and they require the PDF file to use CMYK colors, not RGB.
Will Acrobat Standard do this, and if so, how?  Or do I need to get a different Adobe product for this task?

But when i search for them it wont works. It will pop up "Choose Workflow Template" window. When i select the module there it opens up the empty folders.
What is the meaning of this?
Can i know what do i need to do for overcome this problem?
    Thanks,

    Hello rashika ,
To differentiate between standard and  custom workflows .
All custom workflows would have first three digits lying betwee 900-999  ( called prefix number range )
The number range 90000000 - 99999999  is reserved for customer developmen t and the range 00000000 - 89999999 is reserved for SAP.
Or to  know precisely what exactly is the number range of  custom workflows in your system , check through tcode  OOW4.

  • How to copy List item from one list to another using SPD workflow using HTTP call web service

    Hi,
How to copy List item from one list to another using SPD workflow using HTTP call web service.
Both the Lists are in different Web applications.
    Regards, Shreyas R S

    Hi Shreyas,
From your post, it seems that you are using SharePoint 2013 workflow platform in SPD.
If that is the case, we can use Call HTTP web service action to get the item data, but we cannot use Call HTTP web service to create a new item in the list in another web application with these data.
As my test, we would get Unauthorized error when using Call HTTP web service action to create a new item in a list in another web application.
So I recommend to achieve this goal programmatically.

  • Is anybody using RDX Removable Disk Backup System

I´m sorry, this a new post about an old discussion but I would like to start a fresh dialogue for today; 2011.
Is anybody using RDX Removable Disk Backup System (with or without T.Machine).
An affordable alternative to LTO tape? Proved compatibility with Mac OS?
Is it possible to insert a RDX drive as a second optic unit inside a Mac Pro?
Any happy RDX+mac user, so far?
    Thanks.

I'm not using RDX on a Mac, but I do have one client I'm using RDX for a Windows server.  While RDX is somewhat cost effective over LTO/Ultrium, IMHO it probably wouldnt' be the best for Time Machine.  Time Machine expects the previous backup to be online and if you switch cartridges, TM would have to create a new backup from scratch.  Then if you switch back the cartridges, your TM bundles are out of sync.  I'm not saying it's not possible, but that this is not the "normal" way TM works.  So you need to understand what you need to do if you were planning to switch cartridges.  (If you weren't planning to switch cartridges, then a "normal" external or internal hard drive is more cost effective than RDX.)
RDX cartridges are basically 2.5" SATA hard drives.  The RDX "drive" is, for the most part, just a SATA to USB converter.  (Or SATA to eSATA or whatever interface you get.)  On the PC the advantage is that you don't have to "safely remove hardware" and you don't lose the drive letter.  On the Mac, a "normal" external hard drive is almost as convinient as RDX, since there's no drive letter to worry about.  The RDX's advantage on the Mac would be not having to plug/unplug a USB cable on the external units.  I suppose you could get an internal eSATA RDX to put into a Mac.  I don't know of anyone doing that.
I did use my client's USB RDX drive on his Macbook, just to see what we could do with it.  While it worked, we didn't do extensive testing so I can't comment on long term satisfaction with OSX.  But so far it's been reliable with Windows for almost two years.  (Windows Server 2008 with Backup Exec 2010.)  However since RDX is basically just a hard drive, I've gotten the client to realize that in a year or two, we'll probably have to start replacing cartridges, assuming his data size doesn't grow beyond the RDX capacity.  This is based on the assumption that the RDX cartridges would have similar longevity to laptop hard drives, which have 3-5 year warranties.  We probably will get more lifespan than that, but better to have the client plan in the budget now, rather than have backups fail.

    Hi,
Has anybody used the JDBC 2.0 driver for sql server 2000 downloadable from the
microsoft website? When I try using it with WL 6.1 sp1 it says it can't load the
driver.I try viewing the class file from the jar file using the jar utility it
gives an unknown Zip format error.Anybody has any solution for this ?If anybody
has managed to work with this microsoft driver i will be grateful if they provide
    me with a solution.
    Thanks
    Thomas

    Hello Thomas,
You may want to download the driver again and install it again.
heres a sample xml tag in the config.xml:
    <JDBCConnectionPool
    DriverName="com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver"
    InitialCapacity="3" MaxCapacity="12" Name="MSpool"
    Password="{3DES}fUz1bxR0zDg=" Properties="user=uid"
    Targets="myserver"
    URL="jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://mydbserver:1433"/>
ensure that you follow the instructions from Microsoft. For using 2000
driver you will need to have
Install_dir/lib/msbase.jar and Install_dir/lib/msutil.jar in addition to
    Install_dir/lib/mssqlserver.jar in the CLASSPATH.

  • Image and Archiving - OAD5  How to use own workflow insteard of TS30001128

    Hi,
    I'm on sap version 6.40
By TC OAD5 SAP (Doc Type Customizing Wizard), instead of TS30001128,I want to use my own workflow to expend the approval process.
Question is how to make my own workflow available in the value list(it only works when I copy it from those existing task/workflow in the list). Is there any specific requirement for the workflow input parameters?
If that is possible, then we also want to used a workflow for those FI document which can not be parked.
once image scanned, it will be pass to A. A will enter information in WebFlow form then forward it to B for approval. once it is approved, we will call a BDC method to post the document based on information in WebFlow form.
    my concern here is :
when posting using BDC, how to attach the image to the document
Since I am new here, is there any documentation about ArchiveLink workflow?
    Thanks for your help.
    Message was edited by: VVijay

    Hello K.,
Thanks for posting back the answer, it always helps someone else
Regarding the rest of your questions, I can only very strongly recommend against custom forms and BDCs! Unless you make it a multi-step process: Form -> Park by BDC -> review/complete -> Approve -> Post. But I don't know why you wouldn't be able to park - you only need a vendor, refrence and amount to park an invoice.
The problem with forms is the lack of validation. With parked docs you'll always know that a tax code is appropriate for the G/L account and so on. With a poarked doc in workflow, you can control that it only goes for approval once it is technically complete (using 'save as complete').
Regarding documentation, there's a fair bit of info about archivelink WF in the help, and also a few bits <a href="http://service.sap.com/archivelink">over here</a>
    Cheers
