Anyone using dual 30in displays?

getting ready to order my quad and would like to know what cards people are using for their dual 30 displays?

This is from Apple's Expansion Slots page:
"The NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 graphics card occupies the 16-lane PCI Express slot and adjacent PCI Express slot. Maximum of one NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 or GeForce 7800 GT card per system. To support up to eight 20-inch or 23-inch Apple Cinema Displays, install up to three additional NVIDIA GeForce 6600 graphics cards."
I remember that when the quad was first announced, this page said that you could have two 7800 cards in a computer. Maybe they decided there just isn't enough power. The 7800 already requires another power connector.
For what your doing, you can probably keep it safe and stay with 6600's or a 7800 and 6600. In Motion, the 7800 will give you much better rendering capabilities than the 6600.

  • Can I use dual 24" displays as an extended desktop with my MacBook?

I have a 2.4 GHz MacBook I purchased this summer. I was considering using it for my desktop needs, but I need to have a two-monitor extended desktop. I don't particularly care for the thought of using the notebook's monitor in addition to the 24" display. I'd rather have dual 24" displays, but in talking with the "chat" line on the store website, they said this is impossible to have an extended desktop this way. I'm stubborn and can't help but think that is not impossible with the appropriate work-around.
    Suggestions? Thoughts?
    Thanks so much.

The only option for dual external displays on a Mac laptop is the Matrox DualHead2Go. But with a MacBook, you could only get a maximum of 1024x768 on the two montors, a completely waste of a 24" monitor IMO.

  • Dual 30in displays

Im not sure if im correct or not but i currently have 1 30in display and looking to get another - i have the GeForce 6800 Ultra card and was wondering if i can or cannot run another 30in on this?
    also
im really really looking at the quad and im not fully sure if the card that they supply would run 2 30in or [if the GeForce 6800 Ultra] if can run 2 would be able to be installed into the quad rather than having to get that $1400 monster

Well, Just talked with Apple and after many tries this is what they said.
You can have 2 30" displays with the Quadro FX card.
You can have 2 30" displays with 2 geoforce 6600 cards. One 30" monitor to each card.
Only the Geoforce 6600 cards support many 30" monitors. so actually you could have 4 30" monitors and fill all PCI slots.
Unfortunately for me that have the Geoforce 7800 GT, I can't add another 7800GT or another Geoforce 6600. The quads only support one 7800GT and one Quadro FX.
I am shipping my second 30" monitor back to Apple. The Quadro is a ripoff. I can't afford it and I can't exchange my 7800GT. so here we go.

  • Using Dual Cinema Displays

    Hi Gang
Just trying to get the most out of the working area.
From these screen shots, does anyone know of an optional configuration to consolidate/divide the data shown in the left display?

    Hello Nick - Hello Ratvega
Nick, take a looksee at this screen shot:
    http://www.locationstudio.net/ButtonList.jpg < Is yours a 'buttonlist'?
I would be interested in this option to show the bins in a column, (like yours). Right now, I have too many of them which become hidden at the bottom of the display window.

  • Has anyone used dual layer DVDs?  It took 4.5hrs to copy A 5.3GB movie!

I always thought it would be nearly impossible to fill up an entire DVD with one project, but when I went to copy to a regular DVD my project was .6GB too big....so I went out and bought some Memorex dual layer discs (which, btw are like 10 times more expensive). I put the dvd in and waited for it to burn....and waited....and waited. 4 1/2 hrs later it was done. I tried to play it on my $50 DVD player and it kept making noise and skipping. I don't know why this happened, but I'm certainly not happy. Rather than screw around with these dual layers again I'd love to simply fit my project onto a normal blank DVD. so, is it possible to make a 5.3GB project a 4.7GB project without deleting anything?
    Mac G5

i'll try to answer everyone's questions and clarify any confusion.
first off: I'm doing this for local cable access television. they wanted me to do something educational and at the same time entertaining that that could kill an 1+. since I'm an art historian I decided to do artists work throughout a particular period accompanied by music from when the works were created. so, for this project 'Roy Lichtenstein: Works of the 1960s' I have over 150 images accompanied by 30+ songs. each image has all the info displayed (which gets 1/2 cut off when i play it on the tv) and fades and transitions. When you're watching it, it's surprisingly relaxing and the time goes by much faster than you'd think (imagine one of those music radio channels on your tv, just with interesting images).
now that you know what I'm doing...
in iMovie the project takes up 20+gb as I mentioned.
I use iDVD but don't really know what I'm doing so when I say it's 5.3GB, I mean, when I look in iDVD at what percentage of space is available on a normal 4.7GB cd it says the project is 5.3GB, or too big to fit on a single layer DVD. I'll have to go back and look at my settings, but I'm pretty sure all my settings in iDVD are 'ok' as I've never had a problem burning before....although I find it strange how long it always takes. Is 1hr+ for a 6GB project to burn normal? and is 4.5hrs normal for this project (20GB) on a dual-layer disc?
so, all that being said, I'd still like to fit my whole project one one single layer DVD because I tried another double layer and had the same fate (even on the computer it just doesn't seem to be working correctly...it may be the memorex dvds which i've read are ****). any more insight would be great.
I appreciate all that you've done and your continuing help.

  • Anyone using Dual monitors + TV

I am running win2kpro with the G4-440MX. Has anyone had any sucess setting up any of the cards with two different nView profiles.
    1) With the 2 CRT monitors for normal working. and
    2) 1 CRT + TV for watching DVD movies.
Everytime I switch settings the TV displays only a green screen. Before the second monitor was added I had the card set up to use the TV as the second monitor in Dualview and that worked fine, therefore the card is ok.
It would on occasion turn the TV green or pink/peach and then I would have to reinstall the drivers to get the TV to work properly. This would happen when the s-video cable would get knocked lose and then plugged in again and occasionally happened for other apparently random reasons.
I am running the new 5.3.0 Forceware driver and I know it does work if I unplug the 2nd CRT from the videocard and then reinstall, as I said TV-out worked perfectly with only one monitor for over a year.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get this to work properly? Or am I wasting my time and I should just reinstall the drivers everytime I want to watch a DVD?
If even one person can say yes this is do-able that will make me happy.
Does anyone know how to get an image from the TV-out after it does green or pink?
I know I asked this a week or so ago, but it was not explained well then. Sorry.

    Hi,
Have you tried tvtools? If it works with your hardware, then you should be able to  hot-key between Monitor & TV output, or have both at once - although the Monitor might not like the non-standard H & V rates when the TV out is on.
    It's worth a try anyway.
    Cheers

  • Dual Thunderbolt Displays in Windows 7? Retina Macbook?

I understand you cannot daisy chain thunderbolt displays in Windows 7 to have dual monitors? Is there another way to run Dual monitors? I have a mid 2012 Macbook pro with on Thunderbolt display. I see the Retina Macbook has two thunderbolt ports. If I got one of those, could use dual Thunderbolt displays then in Windows 7, and then just hook each monitor up to it's own Thunderbolt port instead of daisy chaining?

No, you still cannot drive 2 Thunderbolt Displays in Windows with the MBP Retina.
However, you can use 1 Thunderbolt display (for USB hub and LAN connection), and then use 1 Cinema display as the 2nd screen. You can chain the USB ports, but not the displays, so you do have 1 extra connection to the MBP, but that's fine.
Windows 7 will drive this setup without problems.

  • 2 30in display questions

can someone pls verify this -
i just spoke to guy at the local apple store and was asking him about the FX card since i would be using 2 30in displays - he insists that the card that comes standard with the quad CAN run 2 30in displays - however i was reading the graphics support page from apple and is says just the opposite - that the ONLY card that supports this is the FX - all others support 1-30 in and 1- 23 in ...
just would like to know who is pulling my leg here - i tend to lean 2wards the apple support page rather than the sales person - but thought id throw this question out to you guys and get an answer
    thx

I'd have to recommend that you try and find a Mac version 7800 GT. Put it in the 16 lane slot and move the 6600 to the 8 lane slot.
If you can't do that then just get another 6600 from the Apple store and put it in the 8 lane slot. Upgrade to the 7800 when Apple starts selling them and Ebay the new 6600 or keep it for a spare.

    Hi ddickson01,
The MacBook Air 11 inch late-2010 model does support 2560 x 1600 resolution on an external display. See this specifications article for reference -

  • I have 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute?

I just bought a 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute any work at all?  I read where on a PC they would work together, but on a MAC they do not.
I read that Display Port has higher band width than DVI, NEC monitors for best performance they recommend using DIsplay Port.
When I was setting this up I looked at a Nvidia Quadro 4000, unfortunately it was for PC, it had 2 Display Ports, in the Mac version they reduce it to one.  I did not think there could be a difference.
Mainly want to use it for CS6 and LR4.
    How to proceed???
I do not want to use the Quadro 4000 for both, that would not optimize both monitors, one DP and 1 DVI.  Using just the 5770 would work but I do not think the 4000 would be doing anything, and the 5770 has been replaced by the 5870.more bandwidth.
Any ideas, I am a Mac newbie, have not ever tried a Mac Pro, just bought off ebay and now I have these problems.
As a last resort I could sell both and get a 5870.  That would work, I'm sure of that, it's just that I wanted the better graphics card.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

  • I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

  • Does anyone know how to display (in LabVIEW) the memory use during execution of an image and data acquisition VI to predict when it is time to cease the acquisition to prevent the program crashing?

Does anyone know how to display (in LabVIEW) the memory use during execution of an image and data acquisition VI to predict when it is time to cease the acquisition to prevent the program crashing?
I am acquiring images and data to a buffer on the edge of the while loop, and am finding that the crashing of the program is unpredictable, but almost always due to a memory saturation when the buffers gets too big.
    I have attached the VI.
    Thanks for the help

  • How do I use dual displays to have a full screen app on one monitor and another full screen app or the desktop on the other?

How do I use dual displays to have a full screen app on one monitor and another full screen app or the desktop on the other?
I want to have my itunes visualizer on my TV which is connected via HDMI adapter, and still have access to full screen itunes and my desktop on the main display.
Any suggestions?  App downloads that can do this?  Please let me know.

You can't do it.  This has been an issue since Lion.

I'm trying to set up a dual monitor for my new iMac. I'm using a second display I used with my old G5. My iMac recognizes the second monitor but the monitor won't turn on. Power button doesn't do anything on the monitor itself.

If it won't turn on then the monitor is dead (power supply?, video circuits?).  Not worth repairing.
If you have a new iMac then it has thunderbolt.  So exactly what is that monitor you are trying to connect?  For TB you can connect a mini-displayport monitor.   Probably (not 100% sure with TB) can use dvi or vga too if you have the appropriate adapter.
