FOP will generate pdf's in a limited format, unless you build an xsl stylesheet and attach it to you report in APEX... See this link for details : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/application-express/configure-printing-093060.html
For excel output with some fancied up fonts and such in APEX... look at this free package: http://technology.amis.nl/2011/02/19/create-an-excel-file-with-plsql/

    8. Operating System of Install Weblogic Server, BI Publisher, Apache Tomcat is Windows 2008 Server 32 bits.
    9. Operating System of Install Database is HP-UX 11i
Ive configured a weblogic Server with BI Publisher and I have also configured the printing properties of the APEX Server with the following settings:
    Tab Report Printing.
Print Server: Advanced(Rqueries Oracle BI Publisher)
    Print Server Protocol: HTTP
    Print Server Host Address: 174.17.49.106

When I want to print the report in a PDF format it returns me the following error:
ORA-20001: The printing engine could not be reached because either the URL specified is incorrect or a proxy URL needs to be specified.
    Error failed
I have search for documentation but i cant still print the report.
I would appreciate a lot if anyone of you guys can help me figure this out

    Hello Tux Dueñas,
I think you need to have ACL's setup in Oracle 11g in order to be able to connect to the BI Publisher server. Check the following link on how to setup ACL's in 11g...

  • How to configure printing with apex 3.1.2

I am trying to use Apache FOP with Apex 3.1.2 and I am unable to find the place to configure Apex.
The document I am using is located at [http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html] and the important paragraph is the following:
Step 2: Configure Oracle Application Express to use the JSP for PDF printing
Once you have the FOP installed, access the Report Printing parameters:
    1. Access the Administration Services home page
    2. Select Manage Service
    3. Select Instance Settings, under Manage Environment Settings
    4. Click Report Printing to focus on just the Report Printing attributes
I am trying to locate those settings. In the page with the breadcrumb "Home>Administration>Manage Services" the is no "Manage Environment Settings".
Am I looking in the wrong place? Is there a special user that should be used, like sys?
The installation is an Oracle XE with the Apex upgraded to 3.1.2

You need to be logged in to the 'internal' workspace .

  • Apache FOP configuration file

    Hello
Everything is ok with Apache FOP with APEX.
But, where should I put fop.xconf file in Linux (Ubuntu) with font information?

    Solved. You should add following:
    fopFactory.setUserConfig(new File("/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/j2ee/home/applications/fop/fop.xconf"));
    before the line
    Fop fop = fopFactory.newFop(MimeConstants.MIME_PDF, foUserAgent, response.getOutputStream());
    in /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/j2ee/home/applications/fop/fop/apex_fop.jsp
Of course, fop.xconf should point Apache FOP to the right fonts path :)

  • BIP Word Template and Apache FOP

    Hello:
Can I create a report format using the BIP Word template .. export it as XSL-FO file and use it with the open source Apache-FOP from APEX?
Is there some technical constraints or licensing issues with doing this ?
    Yesh

The xslfo, you created from BIP , will have reference to functions , which are customized function written by oracle BIP in JAVA,
so the apache-FOP has to know , that these functions are custom ones, not as normal XSL-fo...
Manual Conversion from RTF to XSL-FO, and using them in Standard support should work i guess.
The standard Supportgives only to XSL-FO, Advanced support helps you to get the RTF template , but for this, installation of BIP licensed is needed :)
With e-biz license,i dont think, you can install BIP separately, that has to be with E-biz only.

  • APEX 4.1 - APACHE FOP PDF generation problem.

    Hi all,
I'm having problem with PDF generation using APACH FOP on OC4J.
When I test my print server as described here:

But it doesn't explain my case as it's crashing even when I generate empty pdf(no data so no special characters, only empty XML file with no data should be sent to print server)
Is there any way to see what xml is sent do print server for processing? That could eventually show where is a problem.
    Palo

My mistake, there was really an "&" character in my template. now when I replaced it with %26 it works.
However I would be still interested if there is a way to see what data is APEX engine sending to print server cause it will help me to find this kind of errors.

    Step 5.1
    Oracle Containers for J2EE (10.1.3.2)
    Available for download from OTN
    Installation instructions and configuration
    I don't see the 10.1.3.2 at OTN. Actual releases are 10.1.3.3 -> 10.1.3.4

    What to download ?
The Oracle Containers for J2ee (OC4J)?
    Any other one?
Thank you in advance for your help

As part of the ducomentation to install the OC4J. You have to have the JAVA_HOME , ORACLE_HOME and J2EE_HOME.
    According to document
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/web.1013/b28950/install.htm#CEGBCJJH
    Question:
If I have install the Apache from the Companion CD and my ORACLE_HOME is
    /u01/httpdev2/oracle/product/10.2.0
The directory have the j2ee and others. If I try to install the OC4J I will be overwriting the rest of directory.
    How I install the OC4J?
    I have to create a new ORACLE_HOME?
I have to install Application Server and then the OC4J?
    Thank you.
    Jose.

  • PDF Printing with XSL-FO and Apache FOP

Can anyone show me in the right direction for this? I've been hitting a wall for the past 2 weeks or so and it's really starting to infuriate me. How am I supposed to work this out? Where do I start? Let's say I create a layout file with a WYSIWYG XSL editor, in what format do I export it? XSL, XSLT or XSL-FO? I figured it was XSL-FO, but who knows. I tried them all anyways, but nothing seems to work. I seem to be missing a step or something, 'cause something's definitely not right.

    Best regards,
    Mathieu

    Hello Mathieu
i assume that the default PDF printing is working, but that you want to create some better looking reports and therefore use a different non-generic XSL-FO.
You can do several things in Apex but you can use the Apache-Fop conversion also indepent from Apex.
    What you need is:
    1) An XML (Data) File. You can get it from your report query when you say export it to XML.
    2) The XSL-FO (Layout) file. THis is the processing instruction that says how convert the XML Data into an XML-FO. You can create it manually or with some tool.
    3) The next step is to render the XML-FO into any output format (pdf, rtf, html)
The creation of the XML-FO and of the PDF are done by the apache fop converter (cocoon or Batik framework if I remember correctly) in a single process but you can influence it so that both steps are done separately. See also: http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/0.95/running.html
The advantage is that you usually get much better error messages from the single steps.
My recommendation would be to do all the steps with a very basic report first.
Then gradually improve the complexity of the report, the data and the layout.

  • Apex with XE10g/Tomcat 6.0.13 PDF Print with Apex  FOP.WAR

Apex with XE10g/Tomcat 6.0.13 PDF Print with Apex fop.war/apex_fop.jsp
    Hello,
    Excuse me bad english.
I have a problem with Oracle XE and Printing from Reports over Tomcat 6.0.13.
I have update Oracle XE with Apex 3.1 and it works fine.
Now i have tried to Print a report to PDF. So i have deployed the FOP.WAR from Apex Utilities under Tomcat.
I see in Tomcat Manager http://localhost:8888/manager/html/list that the FOO
has been deployed and is running.
If i try to print then i get this Message down to this page.
Can anybody give me a hint to solve this problem???
    Hint
To resolve the problem i have installed Oracle OC4J with same Port and deployed
    the same foo.war file.
Then works and all printing from Oracle Apex work fine and okay.
So i thing the Apex and Oracle work correct.
But we have a small Application so i would prefer to work with Tomcat a application Server.
Becaus of previous Errors have copied some *.jar files to C:\tomcat6.0.13\lib
but i thing this is not the Problem.

We are using Apache FOP to generate simple pdf documents out of reports.
My problem is that the table in the pdf is as standard filled in with columns of same length.
Further on the content of some table fields is to large or sometimes there is to much room.
is there any possiblity to let fop react like html?
The smallest table field size should be like the content. I don't want to adjust all my reports, cause there are really many reports with pdf printing.
anyone an idea how to solve this with FOP?
i have no BI pubisher or other reporting engines for this problem
    thx so far

    Oliver,
I think what you're looking for is having your column width automatically adjusted based on the content of your column values. That is not possible with the built-in, generic XSL-FO template. What you can do is manually adjusting the column width to appropriate values on the print attributes page.

  • Apache FOP configuration with Oracle XE

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle XE on my laptop and upgraded Apex to 3.2. I am now trying to install Apache FOP for PDF printing. I am following Section 5 of the following document:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html
Since it is a standalone installation, I followed the directions given here :
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/web.1013/b28950/install.htm#BABIBGCA
I installed JDK version 6 and also downloaded the OC4J zip file and did as specified.
Now here is my problem: The next step is this :
Step 1: Installing the WAR file
Place the fop.war file (located in apex_install_directory/utlities/fop) in an accessible location on your local machine. You then follow the directions below or can view the process by running this viewlet.
+1. Navigate to your OC4J Oracle Enterprise Manager Console eg: http://localhost:8888/em/+
    +2. Select the Applications Tab+
    +3. Select Deploy Button+
+4. On the "Deploy: Select Archive" page use the option "Archive is present on local host. Upload the archive to the server where Application Server Control is running." Use the file browse to select the fop.war file and click "Next" button+
+5. On the "Deploy: Application Attributes" page set the "Application Name" option to "fop" and clear the "Context Root " option and click "Next" Button+
+6. On the Deploy: Deployment Settings click the "Deploy" button+
The problem is, since mine is an XE installation on my laptop, I do not have Oracle Enterprise Manager Console. In this case, how can I deploy the WAR file ?
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks,
    Ashok

    Hi Ashok,
I have the same problem. have installed 10g xe and upgrated to apex 3.2 on my laptop.
I dont have the EM to deploy the WAR file.
Anyway you could share how exactly you deployed the file and made pdf working?
    much appreciated.

  • Is PDF output of more than one reports region with Apache FOP possible?

    Hi,
I'm evaluating the possibilities of PDF output by means of the Apache FOP. I've installed the standalone OC4J, deployed the fop.war and configured my APEX 3.2 installation according to the various guides I found. Now I can generate PDF output of a reports region.
I will have APEX pages containing more than one reports region. Is it possible to generate a PDF document of the whole page, not just of the individual reports regions? If so, then how?
    Thanks,
    Robert
On a sidenote: Does anyone know where I can find the licensing model and fees for the standalone OC4J? They don't seem to be included in the [price list|http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/technology-price-list.pdf].

    Hello Sue,
    >> The first report on Page 3 successfully opens Page 14 as a popup.
Please show us the code you are using for the popup link (it’s not the template that causes it to open as a popup. The template only styles the page once it rendered).
