Aperture 3 won't open

I am positive this began after installing the latest security update from Apple, but that doesn't mean it's the cause. I noticed that when I plugged in my iPhone to sync it that Aperture didn't open. Then I click on the dock icon to open Aperture and the icon bounce followed by a dialogue box, opening Aperture 3 library. Then the dialogue box closes and the "dot" under the Aperture icon in the dock disappear. I restarted my macbook pro with no change. Any suggestions?

Check this link and follow the steps listed here.

  • Aperture Won't Open (tethered shooting error?)

Aperture won't open, I was shooting tethered and it bogged down on importing images. After waiting a few minutes I forced quit the application. Since then I get this error. I have deleted the file from my Applications and reinstalled from the App store.

Looking at the crash dump you posted it appears as if one of the apllication libraries got messed up.
    This entry from the dump:
    Dyld Error Message:

If you have a TM backup of the OS volume you could get the PluginManager file out and just copy that  but probably the easiest and quickest thing to do would be to reinstall Lion.

  • Aperture won't open anymore.

This is going to be a long one. I don't know what I did wrong.
I have a trial version of aperture. I don't know if that means that it will cease to work after a period of time or what. I'm not proud to say that I downloaded it from a torrent site. Okay, shoot me! Maybe it's okay because it was a trial version.
So here is what is going on. Yesterday the CF card from my camera wouldn't load into my computer, and I put it back into the camera and there was nothing on it. Very strange as when I was taking the shots I could see them on my LCD on the camera.
So for all intents and purposes it is empty. I downloaded Untrasher to try and recover the pics on the card. In the download process of the Untrasher, I had to put a copy of it onto an external hard drive. Which I did. And again I'm not sure of any of this because I don't know what I'm doing.
Untrasher recovered some pics on the CF card, but they were ones that had been purposely deleted when aperture asked if I wanted to delete and eject the card from previous download. So Untrasher works pretty good as it recorvered some old stuff. It didn't however recover the stuff I wanted.
So now it is taking up 16 gigs on my external drive. Maybe it is not taking up that space because it is a copy and there is nothing on there, but I JUST DON'T KNOW, AS I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING. I'm not yelling, just emphasizing.
Now I cannot put the "Digicam .dmg" which is what is on my external drive, in the trash. I get an error message saying an error occurred and I can't continue. Error # 1407. What ever that is.
And now Aperture won't open either. I just get the spinning beach ball. I found the original download folder for aperture and re-installed it and the new one won't open either. Have these expired? Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
And how can I put this Digicam .dmg in the trash and get rid of it. It just won't go.
    Thank you for any help.

There's a good chance that the version of Aperture you downloaded isn't legit.  Same thing for the Digicam clone .dmg you downloaded.  These could be filled with programs that could damage your HD and files.
Fist things first - since you're running Snow Leopard, the App Store version of Aperture won't work as it will only work on either Lion or Mountain Lion.  You'll need to decide if you want to upgrade to ML first.  You're alternative is to BUY the retail version of Aperture from someplace like Amazon.
My gut level feeling is that the software you downloaded may have damaged your OS.  My personal recommendation would be to do a clean install of Snow Leopard (after you manually copy all of your data to an external drive that doesn't have any of the crap you downloaded on it).
If you need a good data rescue program, Data Rescue 3 is probably the best.  Yes, it's expensive, but it's saved my butt multiple times (even recovering data from a WinDoze drive).
One more thing...quit downloading stuff from torrent sites!  Buy it legit!

  • Help - Aperture won't open

Help - Aperture won't open because graphics card does not meet minimum standard - Mac is only 4 yrs old- suggestions?

I have a 2009 21.5 iMac that runs Aperture 3.4.3 (the latest) so I would be very surprised if a 2009 24in iMac could not run it.
Is this a new install? Are you upgrading Aperture from an earlier version? Has Aperture (any version) ever run on this system?
I would reboot just to be sure that somehow you haven't gotten into safe mode and then try Aperture again. If it fails open the console logs (/Applications/Utilities/Console) and look to see if anything concerning Aperture of the graphics card is being logged.

  • Aperture won't open in OS 10.5.5

    Hi people.
Ok. I'm using an Intel Mac, with 3gb RAM. I've just taken some photo's with my Canon EOS 400D in RAW format. I plugged my camera in and flicked it on just so i could drop the images in iPhoto for some simple adjustments. The camera screen showed that it was 'BUSY'. After a few seconds, it just went to normal shoot mode screen. The camera wasn't mounting or anything. So i opened the EOS Utility piece of software that came with the camera, and it wouldn't open (in force quit, i was presented with "Program not responding"). Ok i thought, i thought i'd give Aperture a go. Aperture (2.1) wouldn't even open.
I've done a bit of research, and found that there's an EOS Utility update which I'm currently downloading, which I'm hoping will solve the mounting issue, so iPhoto will recognise the camera. However, this shouldn't directly affect Aperture should it? Even with the camera disconnected, Aperture still won't open.
I've had Aperture open in the last month, but i've not used it since i done the most recent 10.5.5 update. Anybody any ideas as to why this might be happening?
All my software is up-to-date, the camera and leads are fine-and i've successfully used the camera and software to import RAW photo's previously. I'm a little stumped as to why this has happened. Is there an issue with the latest OS update that affect the compatibility with Aperture 2.1? I've re-downloaded Aperture, but no joy.
    Answers on a postcard....

The first thing to try (IMO important) is not to import directly from your camera. Get a Firewire-connected card reader (USB works also but is slow on Macs) and use the Mac's Finder to copy images from the card to a folder on the Mac hard drive. My description below describes a CF card, but the workflow is the same for an SD card or whatever.
I feel pretty strongly that camera-to-Aperture handling of original images puts originals at unnecessary risk. I suggest this workflow, first using the Finder (not Aperture) to copy images from CF card to computer hard drive:
    • Remove the CF card from the camera and insert it into a CF card reader. Faster readers and faster cards are preferable, and Firewire is much preferable to USB2.
    • Finder-copy images from CF to a labeled folder on the intended permanent Masters location hard drive.
    • Eject CF.
    • Burn DVD copies of the original images (optional backup step).
    • Eject DVDs (optional backup step).
    • From within Aperture, import images from the hard drive folder into Aperture selecting "Store files in their current location."
    • Review pix for completeness (e.g. a 500-pic shoot has 500 valid images showing).
    • Reformat CF in camera, and archive DVDs of originals off site.
Note that the "eject" steps above are important in order to avoid mistakenly working on removable media.
Good luck! The camera-to-Aperture workflow may or may not be the cause of your specific problem this time but in any event card-to-finder long term will provide a more solid workflow.

The error message you are getting is telling you a shared library is missing. As shuttrtsp33d points out this is usually caused by an install of Final Cut.
The simplest solution is to download and install the OS X Lion Update 10.7.3 (Client Combo)
You can do that over your current system without causing a problem but of course whenever you're doing maintenance work like this is it always a good idea to have a current working backup of the system just in case.

  • Aperture won't open after updating iPhoto

I have been running Aperture 3.3.1 for months (and using Aperture since v3.0) on OS-X 10.7.5 (and a few previous versions) without a hiccup. In a comedy of errors a couple nights ago while trying to AirPlay a project on my Apple TV, I launched iPhoto instead of iTunes and fell for the request to update iPhoto. That update in turn asked to update my library which I unfortunately approved. Now when launching Aperture I get the following warning:
Opening Aperture by holding the Option and Command keys while clicking on the library file works and I have tried all three options (permissions, repair and rebuild), but Aperture still won't open from the dock. The images I displayed with AirPlay were added after the iPhoto update fiascso, so if I restore from Time Machine those edits will be lost. At this point that isn't sounding so bad. Am I down to that as my best option? Thanks.

At this point you have two options, roll back the Aperture library or update Aperture.
I don't see a downside to updating Aperture so unless there is some other reason why you don't want to or ca;t update that's the way to go.
If you can't or won't update you'll have to restore the Aperture library from your backups and loose the recent edits.
    regards

  • IPhoto and Aperture won't open

    Dear all,
Since a couple of days I've got a huge problem with iPhoto.
Last weak it worked without any issues, but when I installed iDVD to help a friend to create a dvd..I guess iPhoto somehow crashed.
I've tried to reinstall iPhoto but I constantly get the same error.
I get this message while opening iPhoto:
But I've already got the latest updates installed:
Then I tried to install the latest Aperture, because I wanted to try to import the iPhoto library to Aperture in order to save my nicely organised 50 gigabytes (medatada, places, faces, albums e.d.) of photo's.
    But unfortunatly:
I know I can right click the library and copy the masters folder when I choose show package contents, but then I loose all my medadata and clean organisation that I've worked on for a really long time... it's a 50GB library, that's a lot of pictures and I the system and folder structure that the master folder has is very very poor.
Is there any iPhoto guru that can help me with this problem?
    Would be greatly appriciated.

    1. What exact version of iPhoto do you have? If you've just re-installed from disk then
    Go to
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/
Find and download the 9.1 updater. Run it. Then Run Software update again.
    2. You know that there's no need to import the library to Aperture now, just open it with Aperture.
    Regards
    TD

  • Aperture won't open... at all.

i have had an issue with my dear aperture... i bought it from the App store about a month ago... it was working perfectly, until i installed Final Cut Express. I realised Aperture wouldn't open since then, so i uninstalled them all and re-installed Aperture. but alas, it is still not working. Everytime i try to open it, i get this message:

    Hi,
I have just encountered the same problem after installing FCE4 on my MacBook when Aperture3 was already installed. After much searching I have found that this appears to be a know issue and Apple have posted an article in the Knowledge Base (TS3528).
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3528
I'd purchased Aperture 3 through the App Store, had already tried reinstalling Aperture with no joy. I found applying the OSX 10.6.7 combo update did the trick. Update is available using this link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1361
    Good luck!

  • Aperture won't open after FCE installation

Just installed FCE for first time (version 4.0.1) and now Aperture 3 simply will not open; get message that says "Aperture will not open because of a problem" and that I may have to reinstall it. It was working fine before I installed FCE.
Have MBP with 10.6.4 and 4 Gigs RAM; all are updated; ran Disk Utility.
    Anyone?

For anyone curious, the Aperture "framework files" that go missing after installing FCE are located at:
    Macintosh HD > Library > Frameworks > PluginManager.framework > Versions
If you have time machine backups, this is an easy fix. Much easier than reinstalling Aperture. Just go back to before you installed FCE, and restore the missing files. It should be a folder named "A", a folder named "B", and a folder named "Current."

  • Help! I upgraded to Mavericks and now Aperture won't open.

It says "you can't open the application "Aperture" because it is not supported on this type of Mac.  I would never have upgraded if I had known I would lose Aperture. And I don't want to pay to upgrade Aperture.

I have version 3.2.1 of Aperture.  I didn't update it prior to installing Mavericks.  Now I've tried to do 2 updates (3.2.2 and 3.4.5), but I get an error message saying I need a version later than 3.0 to update, and it won't install the update.

  • Aperture won't open either from the Dashboard or from the Finder.

When I try to open Aperture from Dashboard or Finder, I get the message "The application Aperture can't be opened." -1712. I have not upgraded yet to Mavericks (after 10 hours of updating, an error occurred!) and haven't changed anything since the last time I used the application. Any suggestions?

My Aperture is 3.0. I'm wondering about the upgrade to Mavericks because on my update screen it has a red notice saying An error has occurred. But it also says that there are no  updates available. My computer (from About This Mac via the Apple icon) shows version 10.8.5. Do you know what version of Aperture works with Mavericks?

  • My aperture program keeps freezing up and my computer battery died but after plugging in and restarting now aperture won't open at all

Why wont my aperture open ???? Working on a clients project and need it ASAP. pLEASE HELP!!!!

If you need to reboot after updating then this usually means that files were in use and couldn't be updated.<br />
A possible candidate is in such cases is security software.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
You can also try to login as Administrator or possibly run Firefox once as Administrator via the right-click context menu.

  • Aperture won't open in OS ML

I installed OS Mountaun Lion last night and got evereything up and running. I have iPhoto 9.3.2 and it works fine, but when I tried to open Aperture I get this warning:
I have opened iPhoto, quit and reopened and get this warning everytime. If I hit the Quit button Aperture closes.

Thanks for the help. You're right. I didn't have a Library chosen. I have to find a way to make one Library, as a few years ago I was playing around and ended up with 2 or 3. Someomne said iPhoto Library Manager could help. I just don't want to lose too many pics.

  • Aperture won't open open.

When I try opening Aperture I get a warning message saying, There was an error opening the database for the library "/Users/...
I can't change libraries and my only option is to quit.  Any ideas?

Start Aperture while holding down the option and command keys. This will open Aperture with the library first aid window. Select Repair library. If all goes well the library will open when it is done.
Post back if there is still a problem.
BTW the repair could take some time depending on the size of the library. Give it time to run.
