Aperture corrupted. Can't access images in my library. HELP!

I have a MacPro Retina running the current version of Aperture. The Aperture database became corrupted today. I had just finished uploading some 35mm images scanned from an Epson V700. I was in the middle of editing one of them when Aperture froze. I ran a FORCE QUIT and tried to relaunch but kept getting an error message (this was hours ago, so I don't remember the exact wording, but it wa something about needing to reload the library). After repeated tries to relaunch failed, I decided to try restoring my Aperture Library from a Time Capsule/Time Machine backup. I tried several differnt backups (going back one version each time) and after trying three versions, finally got one to open in Aperture.
The problem at this point is that a large number of the 3,000 images in the library are visible, but corrupted or totally invisible (showing up as an all black or all white frame in VIEWER and THUMBNAIL); others appear as digital noise (checkboard or random noise patterns).
So far, I have tried running this repeatedly to no effect.
Then, I ran DISK UTILITY VERIFY DISK, VERIFY and REPAIR PERMISSIONS. The disk was ok. There were several incorrect permissions. Repair fixed all but one of them (it read: "WARNING SUID file 'usr/sbin/pppd' has been modified and will not be repaired.").
Some of the images in the library show up as white frames in BROWSER, but will load to a viewer frame when clicked. However, those images are corrupted because they cannot be accessed by the ADJUSTMENTS menu or by the SHARE menu (the share menu, for example, says
"The selected original image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again.").
An added couple of wrinkles for some of you very smart detectives to consider that may or may not be relevant.
*Many of my images are shared directly to Flickr from Aperture. At first I thought these might have been the images that survived intact, but now I'm not sure that there's any pattern here.
*Except for the my last set of uploaded images from earlier today and a few other recent, but seemingly random ones, none of the images in the library that can be viewed are able to be edited or shared. I can see 'em, but I can't do anything to them. And, many of the other images can't be viewed at all -- they appear as white, black or noise. A few images a partially visible -- half black or half noise and half image (images that were okay prior to the problem.
*I have NOT been using VAULTS (I assume that's a dumb choice that one of you will urge me to correct in the future, but that's not an option for recovery right now).
All I can say is... HELP!
Thanks.
PS, I have ONE-TO-ONE. Any chance someone at my local store will have enough Aperture knowledge to save me here?

BTW in your previous post you wrote
Once I have this problem fixed, I'll almost certainly shift to the managed process.
which is why I thought you were using referenced originals.
Rob,
it is still not clear if your library is referenced or managed. You may have meant to import managed, but accidentally turned off the import into the library at some point. Have you checked the "Masters" folder inside the Aperture library package, if your masters are actually there?
If it is referenced, you need to find your original image files - if they are really missing from your system drive, restore them from your Time Machine backup. But if you know exactly where they are, reconnect them using "Locate Referenced Files".
But if your library is managed, "Locate Referenced Files" will not work. Repairing this will require to patch the database files inside the package, that would be a tricky operation. You may save your edits and tags for your most important images however, by reimporting your masters and then lifting and stamping your adjustments and tags from the versions with the missing originals onto the newly imported original master image file.

Photoshop is not a format.  It's an application.
What you are looking at are not true JPEGs, just iPhoto's "tease" representations of the hidden images it swallowed, as explained above.

    Couple of things to try:
Restart your mac and try launch iPhoto again.
    If that fails:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a file called ‘iPhoto’Lock.data or similar. Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If not: Where is your iPhoto Library stored? If it's on an External Disk, what format is that?

How do you fix this error?  Can't access photos----" Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable"

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can create and use a new library then your current library is damaged.
If that's the case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

my children enters wrong password several times on problem  my ipad ..., the was it is indicated that it was disabled ... how can i access my ipad thanks please help ... thank you

If it's reached the point where you can't try re-entering the code then you will need to connect the iPad to the computer that you normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the iPad and re-sync your content to it - from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212
If you repeatedly enter the wrong passcode, your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch will be disabled for longer intervals before you can try again. After too many unsuccessful attempts, you won't be able to try again until you connect it to the computer with which you last synced it.
You may need to put the iPad into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808

  • Thanks TD it worked ! I can now access my photos and library.

Thanks TD It worked! I can now access my photos and library.

If you can't remember the Passcode, you need to restore the device from the computer it was last synced with.
Follow the instructions for putting the device in recovery mode >  iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
That restores the iPod to factory settings.
Will my iTunes library be effected?
It will be deleted from the iPod touch.

  • Can't access image files

Wondering if anyone can help me .....
I am deploying an applet for an intranet, about 15 local users. The applet is a simple tree view which contains links to HTML files found in the same directory on the server as the applet. These links work fine and I am able to view these files from a client machine. My problem is with the image files that I am using for the icons in the TreeView. These .gif files are also within the same folder and work fine in AppletViewer. However the deployed versions throw a java.io.FilePermission Exception on both the server and client, and the images will not load.
I have read a stack of different articles and threads on this area and I understand the need for signing applets when they require access to local files, but it was my understanding that applets can always access files in the directory from which they were loaded? This seems to be true given that the html files load without error, so I am at a loss for why the .gif files will not also? I don't want to go to the expense of buying a Certificate for signing and the process for creating your own seems to make the deployment process extremely painful for the final user.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance
    Chris

hi chris, i too had similar problem. you copy the java.policy file present in security subdirectory in jre directory to c:/windows in case if u r not logged in as an user or to the user profile directory if u r logged in as an user.if u see the java console in the plugin, u can find where to copy the file. rename the java.policy file to .java.policy file, and append the following code. this will work for all systems whether it is client or server. what u have to do is to append the .java.policy file the following code:
    grant {
    permission java.security.AllPermission;
this has to be done for all the client systems also.
if u r unable to access the gif files from the server, u simply put all the files in to the jar file that u sign and access the gif files using getClass().getResource(file path). the file path should be relative to the directory where u placed ur applet. this will work fine.
    bye,padmanabhan.

  • Camera Automounts But I Can't Access Images

I've been plugging away at Arch Linux for a bit now in an attempt to get to know Linux better.  I've ran into a problem that I can't seem to figure out.  Current configuration is Openbox with Thunar as my volume manager.
I've gotten automount to work and it detects USB sticks just fine.  I can plug in my Nikon camera and it autodetects.
I'm using a small photo management program called Mirage for the time being till I get things sorted out.  I can set Thunar to access Mirage whenever a camera is plugged in.  Whenever I plug the Nikon in, Mirage pops up, but then I get a root access error ("could not access the contents of root, Access Denied") when I try to access images.

  • Aperture 3 - Can't send images to Photoshop CS3

When ever I try to edit images within Aperture 3 using photoshop CS3 I get the following message: *Editing Error This image cannot be rendered for editing because Aperture does not support the image format.*
So far I have updated Aperture to 3.0.1, I have tried 32 and 64 bit, I have tried Tiff and PSD - 8 and 16 bit. Reinstalled Aperture and Photoshop, repaired and rebuild the database, but I still get the Editing Error.
The images are JPEG's and Raws, which have been imported from Aperture 2.
Thanks for your time. Please Help......

Curious. I have no problem whatsoever when in Aperture I choose to use Photoshop CS3 as an external editor.
    Works without issue.
Am not sure what you may be encountering, but be assured that it does work fine for me.
    So, don't give up.

Amazing, this Web! Thanks muchly, Google. And much gratefulness to the two of you in this thread, one for posting your problem and another for the fix.
On my MacBook, a bum cups.conf file was causing the ten-second throttling problem and that was (mysteriously, at least to me for the last few days) preventing Parallels Desktop from successfully starting up! I went round and round on this until I found the messages on the console and tried going back to the original conf file.
    Cheers.

  • How access images from iPhoto Library?

I appear to have done something terrible with one of my iPhoto libraries.
Over the holidays, as I recall, I had attempted to move the iPhoto library from the computer to an external hard drive.
This particular library, now on the external drive, shows 266 gigabytes in the finder, but I can't access any of the images.
So, something appears to be in the iPhoto library, but something may be missing that permits access.
If there's no hope of recovery of 2 years of images, should I just delete the library -- and lose all images forever?
Or, is there some hope or method of recovery?

Well it wouold really help if you told us that version of iPhoto you have - and exactly what you did? and exactly what is happening?  we know nothing at all about your or your system except what you tell us - which at this stage is only that you have a problem of some sort.
The only wild guess I can make at this time it for you to depress and hold the option key and launch iPhoto and select the library on the external drive.
