APEX link to external source

Hi,
I was wondering if APEX had the functionality to link to external applications such as Digital Paper?
Right now, im my APEX application & Digital Paper Application, every viaduct is indexed by a Reference Number. Can I link my APEX record to pictures (in Digital Paper) by reference number?
Please Help!!!

Ok, so here's the deal...
I'm running an application that displays information on every viaduct in the city of chicago. Each viaduct has a reference number (unique).
I'm also running a separate application (externally) in a program called Digital paper. This program stores pictures of the viaducts, all indexed by the same unique reference number.
I also have an seperate application (external) that shows the location of the viaduct on a map. The application is called ArcGIS. These locations are also referenced by the same unique reference number.
I want to link these three applications together so that they work together so that I won't have to create duplicate entries. I also want to be able to go into APEX, see the viaduct information and be able to link to its mapped location or photo.
Am I shooting for the stars or what??? Is this at all possible?

  • Future Request: Direct directory link / linking an 'External Source'

    Hi,
When working with iTunes and my downloaded music, sometimes i dont want to add the music to my library because it can or will be deleted soon. (in search of an edit or the best quality)
If iTunes is the standard audio player, it can automaticly add the songs to the lib, but thats not what a person always wants..
therefor, for users that are downloading music and deleting a lot also...
it would help very much if there could 'external source' link where iTunes looks to a certain directory!! (a download directory or so, recursive or not..)
Just as Limewire uses the Digital Audio Access Protocol for sharing music in iTunes.. something in the same way would be great!
It would help making iTunes the no.1 player for managing all kind of music the best way!!
And it would help for playing all music on computer
    Can anyone agree with me?

And i want to be able to play the music on my airport express!

  • Dropdown that links to External Data Source

We use many forms that are designed with LiveCycle Designer.....most of them have a drop down field for employee names. When employees are hired and leave I have to manually update each drop down!!!! Is there a way to link those dropdowns to an external source so I only have to update that list?
    Thanks!

Yes, Employee data can be prepopulated from Relational Database (Such as Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, MySQL), xml file, or web services.
Go through the LC Designer documentation on how to create various data connectivity.

  • Creation of PM or CM WO by external source

I believe my request is pretty much standard, however I didn't find any info in existing threads.
If I need to initiate a WO execution based on an external source (for example, a message from Plant automation system) - what is the way to do it?
In my understanding, there must be a standard feature for SAP PM to "listen" to, say OPC server, and act upon certain condition.
Thank you in advance for help.
Edited by: RenatF on May 21, 2010 4:57 AM

    RenatF,
Unfortunately SAP cant "Listen" to external systems,Unless its visible inside. However as indicated above if the external systems can communicate the data(Either the exception or all the data records for a Particular Business scenario), then it can react based on the data and we could have SAP generate Transactional / ,Master data objects accordingly.
There are [different ways a communication|http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_04/helpdata/EN/18/da766aaf5311d6b29f00508b6b8b11/frameset.htm] can be established between a external system and SAP. The choice of the pattern depends on the what the external system can do and what are the standards maintained or are required to be maintained. Some examples of communication technologies  are
    1) RFC (Remote Function call)
    2) IDOC (Intermediate Document) / ALE (Application Link Enabling)
    3) BAPI(Business Application Programming Interface)
    4) Through a Middle ware (SAP XI , MQ series, Business connector,.Net Connector etc)
    5) SOAP Framework
    6) Web services
There are standard content  available in all of them.
So if you could specify what you are trying to accomplish and what is available at your end, we would be able to suggest possible options

I sense that what you need to do is create a Jar (java archive) file for your code and images and any other resources. Do a search on the forum for the terms -- jar pictures getresource -- and you'll get a ton of helpful threads. Also check Google. Some useful links:

  • External source editor

Anyone know how to setup an external source editor?
D11 allows one to change loads of media editors based on its
"extension" and/or "mime/type", but there is in the list support
for source editor, which IMHO is the most important of all.
That and all the scripts DEFAULT to be writen as text files
in the same directory as the cast/movie that they come from
    naturally.
I would like to use a "serious" text editor to hack
lingo/javascript scripts, not the internal text editor (which imho,
should just be scraped and sticked to view/breakpoint/inspect
    mode).
    Thanx in advance,
    Kindaian

I like to use NetBeans at
    http://www.netbeans.org/ . It
does code folding, and has a nice javascript reference. You can set
it up with Director by going to Edit->Preferences->Editors.
Locate the Netbeans executable typically at:
    C:\Program Files\NetBeans 6.5\bin\netbeans.exe
Be forewarned though: You must specify an external file with
the .js extension for Nebeans to know its a javascript file.
Unfortunately, if you just double click any cast member that is a
script, Director launches the editor opening a temp file with the
extension .ls (as in Linked Script -dumb). Netbeans won't know what
to do with it and won't show you all the Javascript features like
    code folding.
You must specify the external file first. To do this,
highlight the script cast member and use the Property Inspector in
Director to specify the 'Link As' file. Note that Director cache's
this file inside your .dir so you won't need to distribute the .js
    source with your project.

  • Connecting to External Sources

I'm fairly new to Business Objects and XCelsius so my terminology isn't great at this point.  Recently we had a universe designed on top of a data store and I have been using both Live Office and QAAWS within XCelsius to connect to the data store.  I can then export as a SWF and upload to our internal website.  The SWF automatically updates as data from the data store is refreshed.  Unfortunately there is some data that is needed on the XCelsius dashboard that is not available in the data store.
The data that is unavailable in the data store is stored in Excel spreadsheets throughout a network shared drive.  I am unable to reference these spreadsheets at this point.  I have tried a direct link using an equal to cell formula as I normally would from one spreadsheet to another.  This produces the result while in XCelsius but does not produce anything when in preview mode or exported.  I have also tried creating a link to external data within XCelsius using the Data->From Text option.  This almost gets me what I want but I would need to open the XCelsius file and export to swf each time the data needed refreshed.  I would like to be able to connect to these external spreadsheets and have the most recent data without opening XCelsius each time, exporting to SWF, and uploadling to the website.  Does anyone have a solution to this?

    Hi,
You have two options (that I can think of).
    1. Put a universe on top of the Excel files. Google will tell you how, but you may run into troubles with users editing the spreadsheets. I've never had luck with this, but have never persevered.
    2. Use an Excel sheet as the source for a Webi report. This can only be done in the rich client, but will continue to work if you schedule the report, provided that the Excel format doesn't change. Make sure you reference the file as
servername\share\data.xls (xlsx is not supported). I would have an Excel file on the BOBJ server that has formulas that reference the other Excel sheets, this might avoid problems with file permissions, and allows you to arrange data as you like.
You would then use Live Office to connect to the webi report.
You didn't ask, but personally I prefer BI Services over Live Office, check it out if you have the time (best used if on SP3, preferably SP4). This compares them and QaaWS too: http://blog.davidg.com.au/2011/04/live-office-vs-qaaws-vs-bi-services.html

  • AAF linking to external media

    hi
we are an audio post production house.
we're working on a drama series where we need to retain sound file metadata in the AAF/OMF when it is exported from FCP, so we can auto-link to the sound recordists rushes in Pro Tools.
the only way metadata can be retained using Avid is to export an AAF linking to external media.
it appears this option is not possible using FCP (nor using the automatic duck plug-in).
does anyone know of a workaround where an OMF, or even better an AAF can be created linking to a pool/folder of source audio files, rather than embedding the audio within the file?
    thanks

    Not yet.
You can use Gallery's XML Pro software, though, it might do what you want (though it makes a Pro Tools session, not an AAF or OMF)...

  • How to record from an external source

I recently bought a hp envy 17" and I cant figure out how to record onto this laptop.  I have to jacks on the left side, one with an icon of a headphones, the other with an icon of a headset.  I want to be able to take input a stereo jack to record into one of these and record into a program like Audacity.  Under device manager it says I have an ATI High Def Audio Device.  How do I record from an external source?  Thanks.

@toolchic, first make sure that in the IDT HD Sound properties [right click the IDT ICON near the clock, which says "Controls IDT Audio Settings" on mouse over the icon], and choose "Open Audio control panel".
Next choose "Recording > Settings". Here choose the input you want to record with. In your case choose "Integrated Microphone Array" on the top left. Click "Settings" just bellow, slide the bar to "10db boost" on the right, and slide the recording level bar about midway up [at the bottom of the window where all the volume controls for all recording devices are].
While you/re there, it's a good idea to mute the "External mic", and mute any other recording device that you do not need. Next, click the "Processing" tab below the settings tab, and choose "Reduce noise". Leave all the others unchecked. for these will produce a not so nice sound. This helps to eliminate fan noise and other background noise in your recording.
Now when you open your preferred digital audio program e.g.. Audacity [it's free and pretty easy to use, see link below], you can choose the INTEGRATED MIC ARRAY in the recording options. Choose that and then "arm" the track for recording [Usually an icon with R in the recording controls] Next click "record" to begin recording. Of course these steps depend on the digital audio recording program you're using.
If you don't have a dedicated digital audio recording program, and if you have windows 7 or vista, you can record long sessions with the default Microsoft recording program [this program is useless in XP, for it only records for like a minute or so, maximum!. A dedicated program such as Audacity records depending on how much hard drive disk space, or close to that.
@fritz, in essence, input jacks of most current notebooks, external computer mics are mono, but they use a  stereo mini jack [or 3 band, if I understood you correctly]. These are the same as regular earphone jacks. One band is signal, one is earth, and the other is +5 Volts to drive the condenser [these are known as "condenser mics"]. But if you use a dedicated studio type recording mic, then you need a dedicated preamp, and if it is a condenser as apposed to a dynamic mic, the preamp needs to supply what's known as "phantom power" [typically 45v] through the input jack where the mic is plugged into.
However, if you record from the mic in/line in jack of a line out of say a mic preamp, channel mixer deck, CD/DVD/TV etc., then this has to be a stereo mini jack [has 3 bands]. Special cables with 2 [stereo] RCA jacks to mini jack are the ones to use. That is if the line out connector of your recording course is RCA [your typical TV/CD//DVD audio / video out or in are RCA connectors e.g..].
    Did this help?

  • Can I move the default location of the iPhoto library to an external source, leaving a preview image on my main HDD? Do I need to move to something like Apature to do this?

Can I move the default location of the iPhoto library to an external source, leaving a preview image on my main HDD?
Do I need to move to something like Apature to do this?
I currenlty have a NAS which holds all my images.

Yes you can, but you really, really don't want to.
You can store your photos on the External and have iPhoto link to them in that location. It's called having a Referenced Library.
In this scenario iPhoto creates an alias to the files in the Library and that's why you don't want to do this. Aliases work fin when everything is on the same volume or disk. However, if the alias points to something on another disk or volume and something in the path to the file changes, then the alias is broken. That means you could find yourself fixing each alias for every single photo in your Library, one at a time if something goes wrong.
And heaven forbid you would ever want to move the files to another disk.
See why I say you really, really don't want to?
Also note, that your edited photos would still be on the internal HD as they are always stored in the Library.
Aperture, on the other hand, can deal with this scenario quite easily, and has tools to reconnect to the original should the link be broken

  • Ads by external sources

I downloaded from torrent and now stuck with an ad by external sources virus..I referred to the earlier advice to -vsearch  but can't seem to get rid of it…any one has similar experience?

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.
