APEXdisplays foreign characters perfectly but I can't in pl/pdf

My APEX application and reports display varchar fields with Chinese and Russian characters perfectly. When I try to generate a .pdf file from this data (using pl/pdf), the special characters show up as various nonsense characters.
How does APEX properly display these characters? Can I do something similar with pl/pdf. Below is what their website has to say on this matter:
What kind of character sets does PL/PDF support?
* Single byte
* AL32UTF8 Unicode
For single byte: According to the Adobe PDF specification, characters are encoded using cp1252 in a PDF document. If the database uses a different encoding, then the user needs to either set the default encoding or use the SetEncoding command in PL/PDF to adjust the encoding used.
For Unicode: If the database uses Unicode character sets, then there are two possibilities:
* If only one encoding is used throughout the whole PDF, then the same character sets can be used as with the single byte character sets. In this case PL/PDF converts the text to the single byte character set and then includes it in the PDF document. When PL/PDF finds a character that is not in the character set selected then a ‘?’ is displayed instead of the character.
* When multiple encoding standards are used in a PDF document, then the TTF font for the appropriate encoding must be embedded and ‘utf16’ encoding must be used. The size of the resulting PDF file will be larger because of the TTF embedding.

not familiar with the product, but I read in the manual that CP1252 is standard. This means that Chinese and Russian are not supported. For support of these I think you must set the encoding to utf16 (throug SetEncoding). Maybe you should even choose a font which supports Russion and Chinese, so maybe you have to look to include a TTF font (some unicode font). Some examples are in http://www.plpdf.com/23-926.html, for encoding and setting fonts.
Apex can display it correctly because it uses the utf8 encoding to show from the al32utf database.

Do you mean that you can't make in-app purchases in the app (you say 'can buy whatever into my app') ? If you do then what happens when you try to do the IAP, if you are getting an error message that what does it say ?

You can sell it. You won't get it that much for it at this point, but if you really want to upgrade, you can try sites like gazelle.com, cashforyourmac.com, sellyourmac.com, etc. Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy might also take original ipads, but they'll give you a gift card instead of cash. Google 'where to sell ipad' and you'll get many suggestions.
If money is a concern and you do sell your ipad to upgrade, you might try the Apple online certified refurbished store. All of their ipads have brand new front and back covers, a brand new battery, and a full one year warranty including 90 days of free phone support. Shipping is free in the refurb store. I don't think any other place gives you all that when you buy a used ipad.

This is actually a FF 4 RC question...but I can no longer open PDF files...the page just goes blank. No option in applications to set a PDF viewer as default. Help!

How do you open PDF files in FF4 RC? The application section in options doesn't have PDF as an option to associate with a program. Whenever I click on a PDF file, I just get a blank tab.

You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.

I have Adobe Reader XI but I can not read a pdf online, I must save it and then open. This never happened before.

The system attempts to download the pdf, but it is a dark grey screen. I can save this as a file and then open it using Adobe. Why two steps? I should be able to read the first one. This is extremely annoying.

I downloaded Adobe Acrobat Pro, but now can't print any .pdf.

Have Window 8. I downloaded Acrobat Pro from Kivuto, deleted it at suggestion of Adobe help chat, and downloaded it again last night. I have tried multiple .pdf documents on both printers. My wife logged into her work computer through Citrix and used Acrobat Pro from the high school where she works, and still can't print. Any ideas?

Foreign Characters in Mail

I uses 3 language on a daily basis for mail. English, Korean, & Japanese. Mac is pretty good about encoding Foreign characters. But there seems problem with lot of them. I have good luck with gmail, but Yahoo & hotmail reciepenct are a mess. I tried to follow some kind of formula for encoding ,,, but I just can't seem to find it.
Any one in similar situation - willing to share a remedy??

If you need to accommodate webmail systems like those, you just have to experiment, as there is no predicting what they will mess up. Mail uses UTF-8 as the default encoding, but you may have better luck with ISO-2022-JP for Japanese and EUC-KR (or one of the others available) for Korean (set them with Message > Text Encoding before sending).

People stop hearing me but I can hear them!

I hope someone can help me with this. I have had my BB for about 8 months and for the last two months for some reason during phone calls people stop being able to hear me. I can hear them perfectly but they can't hear me at all. It is usually after a longish call but it is starting to happen more frequently--i.e.. more than 4 times in a week and after only a 5 minute call. Very frustrating as this is my only phone and my phone calls tend to be important.
I can usually get up and working after hanging up but I occasionally have to take the battery out and wait a bit. I called TMobile and the best they could do was tell me to take out the battery and send me a new security package. This didn't help. My software is up to date. I am using BB desktop for mac.
Can anyone share any ideas? Do I need a new phone?

i have the same issue and as i can see in the internet many people have the same problem.
Since i tried to find a solution and i could not, i started observing when i had the issue and i discovered that this most probably happens due to temperature increase. I live in a hot country during the summer and the problem appeared when the temperature was high and also i had use my phone alot playing around with apps.
The problem was happening randomly but once it happened i immediately put my iphone to the refrigerator for 5 minutes and then i could make calls succesfully again.
Please try to observer yours as well in order to confirm that this is the problem

When typing in gmail (firefox) or thunderbird, randomly foreign characters will be produced like the keyboard has been set to spanish or french, but it is set to english, and the character encoding is set to what it is supposed to be. Web pages appear correctly.

Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application and you may have changed the keyboard layout by accident via a keyboard shortcut.

* You can do that via the right-click context menu of the Taskbar: Toolbars > Language Bar

* You need to do that while Firefox has focus because Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application
* The default key combination to rotate the layout is the Ctrl+Shift or Alt+Shift combination that Firefox uses for some menu items

Same here on my lpad2. Can access the web just fine from browsers but cannot install new apps or updates in appl store. Seeing a few others reporting same issue tonight so likely an apple server issue and staff will notice it in network monitors and fix it...sometime this weekend.

Reinstall MacFuse with the one from http://www.tuxera.com/mac/macfuse-core-10.5-2.1.9.dmg. If that doesn't work, you can use Paragon NTFS for Mac 9.0 which has been designed to work with Lion.
