App crash: explorer.exe faulting module: fundisc

Hello.
I've been having issues with 4 computers now. All of them Windows 7 Professional 32 bits.
The error they're having is the same on each PC: explorer.exe fails and restarts after clicking Ok to the dialog.
Level: Error
Source: Application Error
Event ID: 1000
Faulting application: explorer.exe, version: 6.1.7601.175xx, time stamp: <changes>
faulting module: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
exception code : 0xc0000005
fault offset: <changes>
process id: <changes>
application start time: <changes>
The oldest issue is november 6th (there's not a single instance of the error before that date); since then the issue is happening at least once a day but more like 5-10 times a day.
I ran Windbg and for almost all errors it point to fundisc.dll as the culprit.

There's another similar error but points to "NetworkItemFactory" module instead of "fundisc", but i'm not sure they're related yet.
I already:
Ran viruschecks and spywarescans and the computers are clean.
clean booted and the issue persists.
sfc'd and no files were corrupt.
They all are HP Compaq 8000 series; besides that, the only other thing i can think of that could be common between those particular machines is that not all of them may had been wiped out when bought and the problems came from the bloatware and some update.
The only updates they had installed were security and critical updates via WSUS.
I'm starting to worry and i'm out of ideas.
Any help will be appreciated.

  • Login Crash wmiprvse.exe Faulting Module msvcrt.dl

    Dear All
I installed 3 Virtual (VMWare) Windows 2012 Server Hosts with the same configuration and get an error message at login which says Visuall C++ Runtime Error and in the logs I can see following error:
    Source: Application Error
    Faulting application path: C:\Windows\system32\wbem\wmiprvse.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\msvcrt.dll
What could be the cause of this problem?

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
For handle leak in WMIprvSE.exe there is one hotfix available for this. Please install and check the result.
Handle leak in WmiPrvSE.exe process on a Windows 8-based or Windows Server 2012-based computer
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2790831
For faulting module of “Msvcrt.dll” It’s the Microsoft Visual C++ Run-Time for Visual C++ version 4.2 to 6.0. It provides programs compiled with these versions of Visual C++ a typical set of library functions required by C and C++ programs. These include string
manipulation, memory allocation, C-style input/output calls, etc.
Thus it seems that you are using some visual application on the server, if that causing the issue then suggest you to contact our MSDN customer care for further assistance.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS + User profile Disks + App-V = Explorer.exe crashing all of the time

I have built a new RDS farm on Windows Server 2012 R2 with two Session Hosts and a combined Connect Broker/Web Access server. I had the farm up and running with User Profile Disks and all seemed OK. However, as soon as I installed the App-V 5.0 SP2 RDS
client on the session hosts, the explorer.exe process started crashing for any user logging in via the Web Access site. The process crashes and restarts every five to ten seconds. It's the same for administrators. If they log in via Web Access explorer.exe
crashes, but if they RDP directly to one of the session hosts explorer.exe is fine. If I reboot the session hosts, then the first user to log in via Web Access has a stable desktop session (and appears to have a new profile as well). However, if that user
logs out and back in again, explorer.exe starts crashing again. The only applications I have packaged at the moment are Office 2013 and Firefox.
I tried disabling User Profile Disks, but this caused a whole bunch of other problems and I eventually lost the ability to log in at all via Web Access (errors about the user profile service). As this is a small pre-production environment I completed scrapped
all of the servers and rebuilt from scratch. Again, everything appeared fine until I installed the App-V client, then explorer.exe started crashing repeatedly for all users.
Has anyone come across this issue before? I have tried installing the App-V 5.0 SP2 Hotfix Package 2, but this didn't help. I have read in a few forums that App-V doesn't work very well with User Profile Desks, but I have not heard of this particular issue.
Similarly, SP2 seems to have a lot of problems, so I am going to try removing App-V RDp Client SP2 and installing SP1. I ahev also deleted User Profile Disks for the test users to recreate their profiles, but this didn't help either.
    Any other suggestions welcome!

Hi... I have run into the same problem today... and I've found a solution... kind of. I hope it's not too late for my answer. 1) download ShellExView from here: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html#DownloadLinks 2) disable the two items highlighted in the image:  The context menu problem will be solved... for a little benefit of (probably) not having those shortcuts for WD utilities in the context right-click menu, but I guess you can still use them elsehow. Hope this helped you. I've found the solution myself and it worked for me.

    Hello,
Based on the exception message, I found that your project is build with .NET 4.0, you could consider changing it to .NET 4.5.
If you want to keep it built with .NET 4.0, then you could consider the following fix.
FIX: "Faulting module name: clr.dll" error message when you run a Microsoft .NET Framework 4-based application

    Hi ,
To generate the crash dump on windows follow the steps :
01)Type regedit in command run to open the registry entries.
    02)Add a new entry to computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\Local Dumps\EdgeAnimate.exe
If any of the sun category doesn't exist , please create it.
03)Now add "DumpFolder" , "DumpCount" , DumpType" as mentioned in the link shared by Sujai - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb787181%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
i.e create DumpFolder entry of type REG_EXPAND_SZ and default value say c:\crashDumps where you have this folder crashDumps in the c directory
Take a look at the snapshot below :
After making these settings , relaunch Edge Animate and try to crash. This should generate the crash dump in the c:\crashDumps folder. Send that log file to us via dropbox.
Do let me know if you need any other help!

  • Faulting application iexplore.exe, faulting module jvm.dll

I see there are a few posts on this sort of problem, but please bear with me as this is somewhat different.
I develop a browser Add-on and one of my customers is experiencing an IE7 crash using Oracle/Jinitiator, with an event log message:
    Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.6000.16827, stamp 49a74cd5, faulting module jvm.dll, version 0.0.0.0, stamp 4469a9b3, debug? 0, fault address 0x00050e18.
This may be related to my Add-on, so I'd like to know of any reasons that an Add-on could cause this situation. I see from other posts that it can be caused by an Add-on using a different JVM to the one used by the oracle app, however we don't include a jvm or use any java code, so it seems like it must be a different problem. The crash occurs on start-up of the oracle app and I'm told they're using Jinitiator on Win XP SP2. I don't know the details of their jvm or jinitiator versions.
I'm completely unfamiliar with oracle apps and JInitiators, so any pointers would be great. E.g. suggestions for them that may work around any such problem (like upgrading to latest JVM), or possible causes of any conflict between my Add-on and Jinitiator.
As my customer's app is not externally accessible I've not yet been able to replicate this. Here's another question (Example Oracle Forms app viewable online? asking for example apps that I might be able to use to replicate this.
    thanks,
    - Rory

Our browser Add-on is only available for IE, and the problem only happens when the add-on is running. So we've not tried Firefox but it wouldn't help unfortunately.

I'm researching this now. I have the same problem. Here is what I'm comming up with. Is that there is a corruptioin in the registry (I know... big surprise with WIndows). And/or/related is that there is some corruption with the user profile. I'm not an IT guy so take my assesment with a grain of salt but this is how it's looking to me.
    Solution that might work:
Launch into the command prompt as an administrator and run "sfc /scannow". for windows 8

  • 10.1.2.45 Crash on Print -- faulting module name softseal.api_unloaded

    Greetings,
Seeing this on a few of our Windows 7 x64 Professional machines with Adobe Reader X 10.1.2.45, recent printing crash patch applied.
Whenever we try to print on these machines, be it through browser plug in or a downloaded PDF, we get an error.  Event log shows this:
Faulting application name: AcroRd32.exe, version: 10.1.2.45, time stamp: 0x4f02e382
Faulting module name: softseal.api_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x441784f7
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
Tried following some of the temporary suggestions for the previous Adobe Printer issue (disabled protected mode, tried altering the printer share name), continually crashes.
I attempted to locate more information about softseal.api, but it's a bit scarce or I'm just not looking in the right way.
    Any ideas?

Our searches turned up the same information, and it apparently is related to some DRM tool, per some suggestions.  We were unable to determine where this would have come from.  Our images are pushed out with fairly limited amounts of software beyond Office and a few FOSS tools.
