Append to PDF product

hi,
does anyone know if Adobe has a product that will append different file formats to a single PDF file when user does a bulk printing to the Adobe PDF instead of creating multiple PDFs and selecting the "from multiple files" to combine them which is not practical if we want to combine thousands of documents !

Since we're on the subject of Portfolios, I suppose I might as well mention my situation-I did try posting this under a separate topic, but have had no responses thus far. The medical practice I'm working with has been using Portfolios, of which I know very little.
I'll start over...they've gone ahead and converted all their medical charts to digital images (PDFs). Each chart is divided into sections, such as Patient Info, Progress Notes, Benefits, Treatment Plan and so forth. Every time a patient comes into the office for an appointment, a new page is added to certain parts of the chart (such as Progress Notes) detailing their last visit. Now that all the charts are electronic, this can be done on a computer. So, for a section like, say, Progress Notes, there's all the old charts organized with the most recent one on top. However, that's not the very first page-the very first page is a blank progress note, ready for the patient's next visit.
All they want to be able to do when they fill out a chart is, after it's saved, have it go on top of the chart (as it's now the most recent page) and have a new blank page appear, ready for the next visit. It's like inserting a blank page, but they don't want to do that-they simply want a new blank page to appear and move to the front on top of the most recent page.
Does this make sense? I really could use some help ASAP!

  • PDF Production Handbook - not online?

    We're getting ready to produce a new series of PDFs that will be linked online, so was looking at the FrameMaker 10 documentation.
    It gives a link to a promotional piece to  SamarthaVashishtha's PDF Production Handbook, which is about 2 years old.
    When I click the link to download the handbook, I get a 404 - Page not available message.
    Does anyone know where I could get access to this, or to the information in it?
    Thanks

    A Google search on "PDF Production Handbook" brings this up as the first

  • Problems appending email pdfs to existing portfolios using Outlook plugin.

    I'm trying to use the outlook pdfmaker plugin that comes with Acrobat X Pro to append Outlook 2010 emails to an existing portfolio.  I'm getting this error: "PDFMaker cannot append to the selected Adobe PDF archive because it was not created in Outlook PDFMaker."  Surely there must be some way to store emails with the rest of the files in an existing portfolio created without the plugin.  Otherwise this is a showstopper.  The whole point of a portfolio is to collect all of the files for a project in one place!  I don't want to have one portfolio containing all the emails and another portfolio containing all of the rest of the files.  That would be dumb.
    I thought that I could achieve a paperless office by scanning snail mail and other files to pdf and collecting them in correspondence portfolios on my hardrive.  My plan was to append emails to the previously-created correspondence portfolios as the emails are received.  I can't believe I can't do this!

    The problem stems from the order in which you are performing the tasks.  The Portfolios that are created by Outlook and Lotus notes collect specific metadata that corresponds to the particular email format.  These fields do not exist in Portfolios created by simply combining files into a Portfolio in Acrobat, and can't be created after the fact.  So that's the cause.  You can think of it them as "email Portfolios" and "regular Portfolios."
    As far as a solution, since you don't appear to be relying on those metadata fields, anyway, the most expedient workaround would be to go ahead and convert your Outlook 2010 email to a temporary Portfolio, then drag the individual files outside of the Portfolio to a temporary location.  Then, open your existing Portfolio, which doesn't contain the metadata fields, and drag your Outlook email from the temporary location into the Portfolio.  Problem solved.  The appearance of the PDF-converted email remains unchanged, and the files are now in the single location you were ultimately after.
    For more sophisticated manipulation of PDF-converted email Portfolios, including attachments, you could look into a third party plug-in from Evermap called AutoPortfolio.  It possesses some very powerful, flexible functionality in that regard.
    Disclosure:  I have no affiliation of any kind with Evermap, but did address the use of several of their products in my book, "The PDF Litigation Guide."
    Hope that helps!

  • Attempting to append a pdf to a pdf in Central Pro

    We have a terms pdf that we want to append to our PO that is generated via Central Pro. Is there a way within Central Pro to append the terms pdf to the generated PO?

    Here is the response to the same question on another thread back in October.

    Apparently it can't be done with this software. Moving up to the

  • Problem with a product image/pdf production in Indesign CS5

    Hi,
    this problem probably has an obvious solution, but I can't figure it out due to my limited experience in using Indesign. I'm trying to export my poster lay-out as pdf, but one of the several product images does not show up in the exporte pdf correctly. Instead of a product image, I only get this white image that is similar to the shape of the product image, but the actual product image is not visible. The product image is a .psd -file and it shows correctly in InDesign document, but not in the exported .pdf file. Could somebody help me to tackle this problem?
    BR,
    Masa

    Hi,
    - It shows in the preview mode
    - I'm using only one layer in the layout with all the images on it
    - The image is not non-printing in the Attributes panel
    - Links have no errors and theya re up to date
    When I create the PDF via FILE > PRINT, then the problem does not occur, but I have another problem with white margins on both top and bottom of the .pdf-file. ¨
    I still would like to create the pdf via Export.
    Thank you for your quick  reply, what's next?

  • Problem Exporting - Append to PDF?

    Hi
    I have a heavy InDesign doc - Full color, many graphics etc. Size is 60MB
    We decided to change the size of the book, so I export to PDF, then import the pdf to new doc with new size and fit it to page.
    The new doc size is 80 MB
    For some reason, when I try exporting the new doc with the placed pdf, I get an error in the middle of the export "Out of Memory"
    If anyone has any advice on that - I'd be glad to hear.
    Otherwise, I was thinking of making a script to export 50 pages at a time (which does work)
    The problem is that I then need another step of combining the files in Acrobat
    Is there a way that InDesign can append to an existing PDF?
    Thanks
    David
    P.S. Any other ideas and advice is more than welcome!

    Thanks Luc
    But it seems that each item needs to be set on its own...?
    The pages are set by default to "controlled by master"
    The master page was set to "off"
    I turned master to "scale", then I enlarged the page size - but the items on the master pages did not scale
    How do I get the objects on the master pages to scale with the page size?

    Hi, Christina.
    pdfFactory and Nitro PDF are 2 separate software products which are not made by Adobe Systems - they are made by other software companies. Please contact these other companies directly to get your serial number.

  • Automating/Speeding Up PDF Production

    I use Illustrator CS5 and in the course of one day I might make 10-20 PDFs (through the 'Save As' function utilizing Presets).
    I'm curious to know of any budget-minded solutions to automate this process or at least speed it up. In my dreams I would love to be able to drop a file on a hotfolder and have a PDF pop out of the other end but short of Nexus/Esko solutions which are prohibitively expensive I am unsure how viable this is.
    We also make a point of NOT saving our files with PDF Compatibility due to the longer Save/Open times and significantly bigger files that this creates. I accept this this may be a major stumbling block in my quest to find a hotfolder solution.

    I don't have CS5 but in CS4>Scripting>Sample Scripts>JavaScript>Miscellaneous is a script which can be used to resave a whole folder of AI files to PDFs. Check it out.

  • Append static pdf page to LC dynamic form?

    I have a multi-page expandable LC form.  It has been functioning fine for several months, but now I must attach two pages of static pdf to the end.  It is so easy to do in Acrobat, I assumed the same would be true in LC, but I have not figured out the combination. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Hi,
    One option would be to recreate the static content in LC Designer, rather than trying to import the two pages from the PDF file.
    You could also follow Jono's advice on http://forums.adobe.com/message/2004818#2004818.
    Lastly if you open the static PDF in Acrobat and export the two pages to JPEG files. Back in LC insert two new pages and drag in an image objact and link each URL (click embed) to the JPEG files.
    Good luck,

  • Appending and splitting pdf files

    What is the best method of appending PDFs to documents
    created via the cfdocument tag? In the past I have used 3rd party
    software to not only generate but also append existing PDFs to
    create one large doc. Is there a CF solution that allows for
    this?

    Furthermore, emailing e-documents is never a good idea; they can get damaged, misdirected, or lost in the process.
    Far better use a file sharing service like Acrobat.com, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc., then send the download link via email.

  • Script 2 pdf outputs?

    I'm looking for a workflow solution where it's required to output 2 pdfs, one for production and one for proof.
    Basically, it's a pain in the hoop to create 2 pdfs each time.
    What I'm looking for is a way via script to export to PDF
    Chooses currently open PDF(s)
    Dialog box looks something like:
    PDF Production
    <Choose PDF Joboption> | <Current Filename> | <Choose Location>
    PDF Proof
    <Choose PDF Joboption> | <Current Filename> | <Choose Location> | Append Filename [_xx]
    Be great if the Script recognised current folder the file is in.
    Any help is appreciated.

    If I've understood correctly, then something like this should work.
    With a document open, run the script. It will open a Save Dialog which should default to the folder of the current ID document.
    Click ok, and it will export 2 copies of the document to PDF, according to the presets listed at the beginning of the script, and with a suffix attached to the name of the second PDF, as indicated towards the end of the script.

    // Modify the line below beginning name2 = to change the suffix.

    if (!(preset1.isValid && preset2.isValid)){
        alert("One of the presets does not exist. Please check spelling carefully.");

    else{
        thePath =  String((new File).saveDlg());
    thePath = thePath.replace(/\.pdf$/, "");
    name1 = thePath+".pdf";
    // Here you can set the suffix at the end of the name
    name2 = thePath+"_xx.pdf";
    d.exportFile(ExportFormat.PDF_TYPE, new File(name1), false, preset1);
    d.exportFile(ExportFormat.PDF_TYPE, new File(name2), false, preset2);

  • Production Print ES

    I am using watcehd folder mechanism for stream serv on windows.
    Description of Workflow
    1) Production Print will take 3 different file types as input. These types are the following:
    1.1) A PDF that is the primary content of the print job
    1.2) A XML file that contains all the recipient addresses and printer configuration details
    1.3) A XDP that will generate a PDF configured with the recipients' mailing address from the XML file in 1.2 (Similar to a cover letter)
    2) Business rules:
    2.1) Production Print must create a new PDF using the XML and XDP which will have a recipient address in the top left corner.
    2.2) If there are X number of recipients then Production Print should create X PDFs with 1 recipient per PDF.
    2.3) Each generated PDF must append the PDF from 1.1
    2.4) Each combined PDF from 2.3 should be printed.
    2.5) According to a specific parameter in the XML, there are cases where only 1 copy of the generated PDF should be printed in contrast to 2.2
    Please help me on various steps invloved for developing the above work flow.

    Here's one approach:
    A. Read the PDF (1.1) using PDFIN and store it in the post processor repository.
    B. Read the XML (1.2) and merge it with the XDP (1.3) (one per recient according to 2.2)
    C. Store the result of B in the post processor repository. Create metadata regarding recipient and number of generate a ppq (post processor query)
    D. Read the ppq and merge the result of A and C (once per recipient)
    E Format the result of D in an appropriate printer language and print.
    F 2.5 can be implemented using a script in C.
    The trick is as you can see to use the post processor repository to merge the content of the PDF (read once) with the output of the XML/XDP merge (several) asynchronously. This is a pretty common scenario for LCPP.
    Hope this helps.

  • Displaying PDF in new Browser window

    Hi all,
    I have a question about displaying a invoices in pdf format in a new window. I read several threads about this, but I haven't been able to solve my problem.
    I'm using following code:
    append the pdf to the response
      cl_wd_runtime_services=>attach_file_to_response(
        i_filename  = 'test.pdf'
        i_content   = lx_pdf
        i_mime_type = 'application/pdf'
        i_in_new_window = ' X'
        i_inplace       = 'X' ).
    The content (lx_pdf) is retrieved from a smartform, via the function module for the smartform in question, after which I convert the OTF Data (JOB_OUTPUT_INFO-OTFDATA) to XSTRING using FM SCMS_TEXT_TO_XSTRING. The returned data (buffer of type xstring) I use for afore mentioned method. But all I get to see is the following:

    The text is correct, but it is not displayed as PDF in new window, and of course I'm not interested in all the formatting codes in front of every line??
    I should be possible to display a pdf in a new browser window without having installed everything needed for Adobe Interactive forms, or isn't it??
    Kind regards,
    Micky.

    Hi Micky.
    If you have the spool number of the printed billing document you can use
    component WDK_SPOOL_TO_PDF in order to display spool as PDF.
    Just transfer spool number and format to default inbound start up plug.

  • Can I print a 2 page spread to .PDF from a CS 3 document where the rest of the pages are NOT spreads

    Since I do not know how to really describe this, please have a look and tell me how (if it's possible) if I can print (to PDF) this catalog where the pages (4) and (5) can remain as a spread and the rest of the document would print single pages.  I can print this as a booklet, but it's sideways online.  Our goal is to have our customers able to view the PDF online and get its full impact.  We really can't do that viewing it sideways OR by having the pages 4 and 5 split up like they are.
    http://provsnusa.com/pdf/Product%20Guide_GenRec_WEB_CURRENT_VERSION.pdf
    The problem we're having is we would like to NOT break-up pages 4 and 5.  We want this to look good for the users.
    Is it possible to have 1 spread only display all the way across - in other words, is there a way to NOT split up just pages 4 and 5 in this document?  The only way I know is to print ALL the spreads.
    I tried: Creating the PDF with all the spreads, it does not look as good, but at least the 2 page spread is not broken up (4 and 5).
    But now if I go to print the PDF with ALL spreads, then it does not print properly on letter sized paper.  Are there settings I can embed where this will print properly where the end user does not have to make adjustments - i.e. We want the end user to be able to just hit "print" and it's done.
    I tried: I also created this InDesign CS3 document as a PDF booklet.  While this is OK, it appears sideways online to the viewer which is not desirable in this case.  Is there a way where the end user can view this correctly as a booklet online without printing?
    I guess as an alternative, I can upload the booklet for printing, and another version for viewing.
    Maybe there's a special web based PDF viewer out there or something - I'm very ignorant here.
    Any suggestions would be very helpful
    Sorry for the long wind - hope I've made sense.
    Dan

    Why not reconstruct the pages in InDesign they way you want the double pages to appear. There may even be an imposition script available that will do the trick. You could then output to pdf all the pages you want the full spread on. Leave the original to create the pages you wanted left as is.
    You can ask in the ID forum about an imposition script. I know there was one with CS4, there may have been one with CS3.
