Apple Configurator.ipa file linked to Apple ID

Is there a way to separate a free app deployed through the Apple Configurator from the Apple ID that was used to download the .ipa file in the first place.  The association with the original Apple ID causes the two to be linked and therefore users cannot update the App without entering the password of the originating Apple ID.

AirWatch can't take a backup of an iPad and redeploy that image such as you'd use in Symantec Ghost.  It can deploy apps based on a specific configuration that you define, but it's not as seemless as Apple Configurator where you can force any app to one or many ipads at the same time with the click of a single button.
There's a downside to deploying apps via Apple Configurator though and that is the binding of the Apple ID to the app which also affects how that app is updated.  Back to gyrhead's response to my question, "You could use a generic organizational Apple id for the Configurator piece just for this purpose and provide everyone with the log in credentials for it" but even this isn't fool proof.
If sharing a single Apple ID works for you, then you have your answer.  As a workaround to avoid sharing Apple ID's, I've had to delete the app that was loaded by Apple Configurator and ask the user to re-install the app from AirWatch's App Catalog or push it OTA from AirWatch's console.

  • Apple Configurator .ipa files

Does backing up an iPad to iTunes, store copies of all apps(with the extension .ipa) to the local machine (Mac mini Server late 2012)?
If this does not occur, how do I get my iPad apps with the extension .ipa to my Mac mini Server for distribution with Apple configurator/Profile Manager?

You"ll have to use iTunes on the server
    Download the apps you need
Profile manager will pick up the apps from iTunes
Same with Apple Configurator, download the apps with iTunes on the machine that's running AC
AC will pickup the apps from iTunes

  • Edit Info.plist Within a Published .ipa File to Enable iOS Newsstand Support?

I'm working on developing a magazine-style app using Flash CS5. I'd like to enable iOS Newsstand support for the exported .ipa file. Anyone have any experience with this? I believe that I'd need to edit the app's info.plist file within the exported .ipa bundle ...
    Experiences / thoughts?
    Ted

    Hi Ted:
I have not implemented this yet. But as I can read on http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/StoreKit/Reference/NewsstandKit_Fram ework/_index.html, editing info.plist might take your app to newsstand but to take advantage of any NewsStand feature  you will also need to write some Native Extension also that provides access to NKLibrary , NKIssue NKAssetDownload.
I think http://www.viggiosoft.com/blog/blog/2011/10/17/ios-newsstand-tutorial/ this will help you do some newsstand stuff in native code.
If you ever use newsstand, I would love to see your app, please share your iTunes link.
    best of luck,
    thanks,

  • Can't find the .ipa files on mac-mini!

Downloading ipad apps on mac-mini and can't find the .ipa files.  It looks like the app downloads but i only find the .tmp file afterward.  I need the .ipa to pull into configurator.  Anyone see this happen before?

    Hello DLeimer,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re running into an issue locating apps that you’ve downloaded from the iTunes Store on your Mac. To see the location of an app that you’ve downloaded, just select the file in iTunes and choose File > Get Info, as shown in this article:

  • Cannot install ipa-File because of wrong signature

    Hello,
I would like to build an ipa-File with Viewer Builder for an iPad-Distribution.
I have configured the Folio in the Viewer Builder and downloaded the ipa-File with the correct Developer-Certificate/Provisioning profile and -Signature.
If I install the file on an iPad, that is included in the Certificate,I get the following error on the Xcode-Console:

I have created a new Provisioning profile and updated the Viewer Builder on version 2.0.1.
Do you have an idea how it will work?
    Thanks in advance.

What I forgot to mention: an update of Mac OS X (10.7.4) before it worked two weeks ago with the same signature and provisioning profiles already.

  • "Entitlements are not valid" error message when trying to sync ipa file from iTunes to iPad

Is anyone else getting this error message, "Entitlements are not valid",  when trying to sync .ipa file from iTunes to iPad?
The issue I'm having is getting the ipa file that was built by the 'Adobe Flash Packager for Iphone' installed into my iPad.
So, I have a swf file that works and was able to publish it into the Android Market.  I then compiled and build the same flash project with the Packager for Iphone into an .ipa file.  But when I try and install this .ipa file into my iPad to do my testings, i'm getting the error message.
I would like to test my ipa file in my iPad device before submitting it to the Apple Store.
Any help would be appreciated. thank you.

Developing for iphone can be amazingly complicated and frustrating.  (even before you start coding).  The process of having to create a Certificate, to approving the Certificate, to Assigning the deviceIDs to the certificate, to creating the AppIDs, to creating the provisioning profiles and then creating the .p12 file... is just too tedious.
I solved the problem of the "Entitlements are not valid".   The AppID i had set in the iPhone Developer Portal did not match that of the AppID i had set in the Adobe Flash CS5 -> Publish Settings.  (ie. com.yourdomainname.yourappname).  After I re-entered my AppID and compile, i was able to sync the .ipa file into my ipad.
I wish the error message had been a little more descriptive.  Could have saved me a whole day.
I hope this helps others.  But my guess is, if you don't set the 40 character device ID correctly, or the email in the signingcertificate correctly, you'll get this same generic error message.

  • Can I test social sharing w/o generating an IPA file?

Is there a way that I can test social sharing behaviors without generating certificates for an IPA file? I would like to see how my articles are captured and how they look on social media before submitting the app to the apple store. I am hoping there is an easier way than creating an IPA file.
    Thanks!

    Found it.
I am learning why the refernce for JavaScript is 745 some odd pages.
There are system functions for Number of total Fields (numFields)
Name of any particular field    (getNthfieldName)
You can then use a loop to find the field that are marked as REQUIRED and that are EMPTY.
Works GREAT inside my "Build Summary" button.

  • .ipa file not running on iphone

    Hi,
Apps created by using Flash CS5.5 executed on apple device successfully.
But nw I want to execute any .swf app on iphone/ipad from command prompt.
So, I downloaded simple helloWorld.swf file from http://www.mediafire.com/?bf2f9uii1h1xksb
& using "adt" command I created it's .ipa file.
Bt the problem is that it is not running in my iphone means app icon come there bt launched with white blank screen..
    What may be the problem?
    Thanks,
    Sampada

Although you called it a simple hello world swf, it's not simple. It does show "hello world", but the code it is running involves an RSL Preloader, and it's accessing external URLs. Specifically it downloads a Flex framework file. That isn't something that you'll get away with when making iOS apps.

In 10.9 opening of file:///-Links was no problem with PathFinder. After upgrading I can't open file:///-Links in Messages or Mail. Only Adium is still working. What can I do to enable it again? Or did Apple stopped supporting the file:///-Protocol? Best regards Michael

    Sir,

I perfer the GoodReader App, as it can reflow the text so it is more readable on an iPod Touch.  There are other PDF apps that can reflow text, but make sure they specify the ability to reflow text otherwise they are just giving you the page as is in a very VERY TINY font
Apple's iBooks can display PDF, but it is an AS IS display.  No text reflowing.
iTunes can transfer PDFs to iBooks, there is even a tab for that when your iPod Touch is connected to your PC and talking to iTunes.
Many apps allow iTunes to transfer files for them.  Under iTunes -> your iPod Touch -> Apps Tab, scroll to the bottom of the apps list, and there is a section for file transfer for each app that supports file transfer.  Find your PDF app in the bottom list and if it is listed, you should be able to transfer your PDF via that app.
Or get a free DropBox.com account for your PC and download the DropBox App for your iPod Touch and transfer that PDF that way.  Many Apps can get files via DropBox.

  • Install .ipa-files

    Hi,
I'm pretty new on iPad2, so I have a question about installing applications.
How do you do this? I have this .ipa-file from my company. It's a beta application, and it's not available in AppStore..yet.
I have iOS5 and iTunes 10.5.0 (Windows). I've googled/tubed this but can't figure out how to install this .ipa-file.
    I've tried:
Drag and drop the file over the left side panel in iTunes. The app is then in the list, but there are no sync button to get the app to my Pad? In youtube I can see that they press a sync button to get the app installed on the Pad, but this seems gone? Have Apple removed this feature? all apps needs to go through Appstore? Only solution to get this app will be to jailbreak it (as I dont want to do that..)?
I've also tried to install the .ipa-file through Dropbox/mail attachment...which doesn't work. iPad cannot open .ipa-files...
    Could anyone please help?
    Thanks,
    Arne

Who do I have to give an apple to get the answer on this one?

  • Why are the apps I download from itunes .ipa files?

I understand that .ipa files are for jailbroken idevices, but when i download apps (all free so far), and i go to (eindows explorer) my music\itunes\itunes media\mobile apps, all the files are .ipa files.
Not me or anyone else in my family have had anything to do with jailbreaking or cydia. Is it the fact that they're all free apps?
    thx

    i am qwerty wrote:

That's not correct. All Apps are .ipa files.
An App for a jailbroken device may well be in .ipa format, but that's not relevant to you if you haven't jailbroken your device.
Someone writes an App for Apple iDevices. By definition, it's an .ipa file.
The App is submitted to Apple who effectively vet it for behaviour unacceptable to Apple.
If the App passes Apple's vetting, it gets into the Store and you can purchase it, either for a cost or for free
If the App is not passed by Apple - or not even submitted to Apple because the author knows it will not be accepted, it isn't in the Store.
Jailbreaking allows people to install Apps that Apple have not accepted into the Store. It doesn't seem to dawn on many people that the reason Apple may not have accepted an App may be because it will harm the iPod, make the iPod unreliable or compromise their security.
    You have no need to worry. My additional comments about jailbreaking are to serve as a warning to anyone else who reads your thread in order to deter them from jailbreaking. Further reading can be found here;

  • Syncing ipa file on iPad1 not synced?

    OS X 7.4 / iTunes 10.6.3 / iPad 1 OS Version 5.1.1
My ipa file is not syncing on my iPad 1. I followed these steps:
Go to your iOS Provisioning Portal and download the AdHoc provisioning profile for your app to your computer.
Connect your device to your computer
Drag the AdHoc Provisioning Profile to your iTunes Library
Sync your device with your computer.
Go to publish.magplus.com and click the Apps tab in Publish
Click the .tgz file to download the build version you want to test.
Double-click downloaded file to unpack it, the identify the AdHoc -ipa file in the unpacked folder.
Drag that file to your iTunes Library and sync your device.
Now the app is installed on your iPad.
My ipa file is in my iTunes/iTunes Media/Moblie Apps/....but it does not sync to the iPad.

    >Go to publish.magplus.com and
What the **** is that? I don't recall seeing that in Apple documentation.
