Apple really needs to rethink their temporary playlist approach
One of my biggest annoyances with Apples music products, be it mobile or not (iTunes), is their approach to playlists and more specifically their so called "on the go" playlist on mobile devices. The "on the go" playlist needs to go or be revamped. When I think of a product with a great temporary playlist, key word being temporary, is the Creative Nomad Jukebox C. I loved listening to music on that thing, I didn't with my old iPods. I'm close to loving listening to music on my iPhone and iTunes has always been alright not great. Bottom line is the missing piece for me is a great temporary playlist.
An idea I had in iTunes that would greatly improve on the fly song listening. In grid view if you could right click and bring up a list of the tracks on an album that looks like the track list on the Touch/iPhone.

The title alone speaks to my frustration about this issue.
Used the process that was recommended by Apple to migrate from my "Lampshade" iMac (PPC running 10.4.11) to the new iMac (Intel running 10.8.2) and I got bupkiss...
Just a spinning wheel (not beachball) and no drive recognized using Migration Assistant for both nor when using Target Mode on the iMac running 10.4.11 and Migration Assistant on the iMac running 10.8.2. Which is ironic, or more accurately oxymoronic, since the iMac in Target Mode (10.4.11) is recognized on the desktop of the iMac running 10.8.2 but not in the Migration Assistant. And before you can misdiagnose..it is not the Thunderbolt connection since I have the Apple recommended Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter and also used the Firewire 400 to 800 cable to expedite the transfer.
On a personal note...
I'm not bashing Apple for this...they are "head and shoulders" above the competition in what they do but I've been burned a few times so I feel I can share a small bit of loyal customer advice...I understand your iOS and mobile products hold huge sway in company focus and market-share but I find it a tad unwise to slack on the desktop applications. I don't recall any app for the iPhone/iPad family being made on the iPhone/iPad...only from desktop applications if I recall correctly. And how can I clearly "Move my Mac even further ahead" as your marketing states when I can't even migrate my files from my old Mac to my new one in a simple fashion as per your instructions?
I thank anyone in advance with an answer or even a workaround for this issue and please have a great day.http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4889
Migration from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger to OS X Lion
Migration from Mac OS X v10.4 computers to OS X Lion over your Wi-Fi or a wired network is not supported. However, if both Macs are equipped with a FireWire port, you can use Target Disk Mode to transfer your data:
Verify that both Macs are equipped with a FireWire port. Note that different model Macs may have different FireWire connectors, which will require an appropriate cable, such as FireWire 400 to FireWire 800.
On the Mac you want to transfer data from, Restart, and immediately hold the T key.
Wait for the FireWire logo to appear on the screen. If it does not, restart and try again.
Connect both Macs via the FireWire cable.
On the Mac you want to transfer data to, Open the Migration Assistant application.
Select the option "From another Mac, PC, Time Machine backup, or other disk" and click Continue.
Select the option "From a Time Machine backup or other disk" and click Continue.
Select your other Mac's volume, such as "Macintosh HD", from the list, and click Cont
EDIT: Actually I realize you did follow these directions and if your drive is seen on the new Mac it should work. You're entitled to free Apple support with the new purchase, I'd give them a call. -
Apple really need to...
Get this whole 2.0 firmware sorted out a.s.a.p. I have and Itouch which i bought back in november. Its a 16Gb itouch which is in perfect working order, it syncs fine but like many other people it just will not accept the new 2.0 firmware.
Why?
Looks like no one has a proper answer for this. Well atleast error (6).
But if someone does please please please can they post it here! Cause its something which i have tried everything possible which i have found and none of them work its the same error (6) everything single time, even if its in DFU mode or Recovery mode. None of them work.
Thanks for reading hope someone has an answer to this!
~S.S~Well it took me 11 hours, 2hours of which on the phone with apple, and a huge bottle of wine but I did eventually get my ipod to take the 2.0 upgrade.
(I was getting the same error 6)
What worked for me was uninstalling the anti-virus on my computer. I have mcafee and I was able to uninstall only the section that dealt with firmware updates. Once I did this my computer restarted and my touch was immediately recoginized in itunes and the upgrade when thru with no problems. I've only had minor hiccups now that I've got it going. Nothing really to complain about.
I'm really thinking the wine had something to do with my touch finally working!! -
You should be able to upgrade.
You can upgrade... for the full purchase price.
Why should Apple take a loss because you want a new device. If you want it, buy it.

I use Pro Logic 9.1.8. and see that to upgrade to Pro Logic X I need to buy the full package again. Does apple offer special conditions for their Apple clients ? Are users of apple care protection plan better served ?
Old saying applies here most of the time......
"If it ain't broken, don't fix it"
I choose to use LP9 with Snow Leopard myself (10.6.8 and 9.1.6) for most of my commercial work simply because I find that combo very stable and provides the best overall performance for my setups here... but I am also using LPX with Mavericks as part of my client support and that works fine too although with a drop in performance due to the heavier demands made on the hardware by the newer OS X and LPX graphic routines for example.. -
Hi I'm from Australia.
If I buy an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station and I have an Optus Cable internet. Do I really need an Apple Care Protection? or I don't have to?Any specific recommendations for a standalone ADSL modem though?
Always a good idea to use the modem that your service provider supplies or recommends....often free....since you know that it will be supported in the event of connection difficulties.
I have made the mistake of choosing the "best" modem based on test reports....only to find out later that the ISP would not offer any support when I was having connection difficulties.
The ISP blamed the modem. The modem support folks blamed the ISP. -
Please help! I am trying to change my Apple Id that used to be my mother to Mine- Every time i have it changed and i go and try and do an update it continues to ask for her old password. I really need help with this!

Apps downloaded with an Apple ID are forever tied to that Apple ID and will always require it to update.
The only way around this is to delete the apps that require the other Apple ID and download them again with yours.
Or simply log out of iTunes & App stores then log in with updated AppleID. -
All the songs I had unchecked in my library are now checked on on my new MacBook. My playlists are all there, but I do I really need to uncheck the ~3,000 - 4,000 songs I had previously unchecked?
My original library exists on my old computer, so I could still transfer it. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated - thank you! This "original file cannot be found" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

Just updated my Apple TV and all it shows now Is a picture of it needing to be plugged into iTunes, do I really need to buy a micro USB cord? This seems absurd!
This indicates the device is in recovery mode.
Connect it to a computer running iTunes and restore it. -
Really need help as both my iPhone 4 and iphone 5 have the same problem, if I call someone using speaker the call never connects, just "hangs". Then when I give up neither phone will end the call! Been back to apple 3 times and all handsets replaced but still no different!
Not sure if this Term is Relevant towards an iPhone but, my iPhone won't Post unless if it's plugged into a Charger.

Well my ipod 4th gen was updated it shut off and now when i try to turn it on it stays on the apple logo for abit then gets stuck on a white screen od blue or mixed colores i really need help fixing this plzz help
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Restrictions Really needs improvement for Business use
Hi
We have written an app and are replacing our industry standard barcode scanning devices with over 100 iPod Touches worldwide using a third party barcode sled accessory. This is much cheaper (Around $800 vs $1500) and offers a much richer and less confusing user interface to the end-user. However our end-users are often low paid seasonal workers employed by our clients, so when it comes to the restriction settings in iOS we try to lock the devices down as much as possible.
I think more and more people are treating the iPod/iPhone/iPad in commerical environments and so the ability to secure and maintain these devices really needs to be improved. Our situation aside you can use your iPhone as a point of sale with a credit card swipe, if you have a retail chain with several of these devices for use by employees you don't want them to be messing around on them or making choices that you don't want them to purposfully or accidently.
For instance:
iOS6 upgrade seems to download automatically and prompt the user if they want to install. There is no way to turn updates off, and not even a password is required to do it. In my scenario if someone gets the upgrade push and then clicks ok they then can't work for 30 minutes, not good if there is a long line of people waiting to be served.
WiFi/VPN connections can be changed
Passcode lock can be turned on/off/changed
Date/Time / Keyboard / International / Accessibility settings can all be played with
Weather app always available
Stocks app always available
Maps can be used (location can be disabled at least!)
etc..
If I (as a developer) tell our deployment manager to tell our client's manager to tell their scanning manager to tell their temporary workers to not mess around with things like the above....someones not going to listen, and our IT department is just going to have to check each device and clean up.
I know that apple's portable devices are aimed more at consumers, but I personlly think it's about time that we have some more attention to more business scenarios.
I don't want to come accross negative so i'll finish by saying that a lot of the restrictions in place are very useful. Being able to disable the store, iTunes and safari are very big wins, without those we wouldn't have switched to iOS devices.
Anyone else have a similar need for more administrative ability?
Thanks for reading. One of these might be good for a POS (assuming you need touch screen), but those are terrible for graphic artists to use. All-in-ones are to be put bluntly, over-priced pieces of junk with crappy power supplies and worthless integrated video cards. They will run too hot most likely and need maintenance more often than larger well-ventilated desktop towers. Your graphic artists staff will hate the small low resolution monitors as well as the lack of decent GPU acceleration. The only good thing about them is the small form factor, a sacrifice well worth looking past IMHO.
Graphic artists should be using high-end monitors, IPS panels for accurate colors and high resolution displays of 2560x1600 pixels. I strongly recommend looking at Dell's Ultra Sharp models (particularly the 30"). If you end up getting three Dell Ultra Sharps then you might as well get the whole system from them as well and develop some sort of professional relationship and support system like most businesses.
*The monitor should be the most expensive component by far and it is the most important for work productivity, do not skimp out here, you run a graphic design firm after all!
Look for reasonably priced desktops with 4-8GB RAM, Intel or AMD quad core processors. Stay away from discrete graphics, Photoshop uses GPU acceleration found on higher end video cards and it is useful. Larger hard drives perform better than smaller ones because of areal density, so buy larger hard drives than needed (1-2TB drives with 500GB or larger platters) and run them in RAID1 for redundancy, because I doubt you have a storage area network. -
You guys really need to fix Messages.
The messages application within Mountain Lion is the most dysfunctional piece of software I've ever seen released, and not patched. Since ML was released, messages has been causing my 2011 MBP to freeze up on resuming and constantly locks up when I type something into the search field. If spotlight can index my entire harddrive, messages can index basic text messages. Also, messages is unable to send files at random times. The files transfer window shows all the files that had attempted to reach me, but their progress bars are stuck. Deleting .plist files for messages fixes this problem, but you should not have to do this. This program is absolutely unacceptable. You guys really need to patch this, or better yet, develop an entirely different messages. Something as simple as this program should have ZERO problems, especially being so late after its release. PLEASE FIX.

Really need a way to delete previous Mail recipients
iOS really needs the capability to delete previous Mail recipients like on Mac OS X. Recipients come and go, change their provider, etc. It can be really frustrating to have an old recipient address show up when you're addressing some email, and you don't notice it and the email bounces because the recipient's address has changed.
You can leave feedback for Apple at:

You can restore as new.
