Apple script to turn AirPort on/off?

Is there a way to use Apple script to turn an AirPort Extreme on and off?

I haven't used these tools so I don't know for sure, but doesn't Tiger's parental controls (in the Accounts preference pane) allow you to enable/disable network access by account? Would that work to solve your problem?

  • Script to turn wifi on/off

    Hello,
Can someone provide a script that will simply turn on or off wifi as if using doing this manually from the menu bar?
    THx!

Thanks for this. I did google and find a few others before I posted but none of them worked.
This one did work http://www.makiaea.org/post/5993587804 after I changed "en0" to "en1"
THis is working in my MBP:
    -- 20110529 www.makiaea.org ref: 20110529wlx-wirelessonoff.applescript
-- wlx toggles wifi (airport wireless) power on and off
    -- Tested using macbook air 3,1 , mac os 10.7 (Build 11A459e), quicksilver ß59 (3842)
-- if you are not using quicksilver to run the script, you may need to compile the script first (using applescript editor) and save as an .scpt script or as an app if you want to double–click with the mouse on an icon to run it.
-- note this assumes your wireless ethernet interface is en1
-- get the correct interface from the menu Apple|About This Mac|Network|Wi-Fi or from terminal using ifconfig -a
    try
set makiaeawirelessstatus to do shell script "networksetup -getairportpower en1"
    on error
              display dialog "The script did not work as intended, please check the networksetup command (in terminal) works on your system. It has been tested on mac os 10.7 (Build 11A459e). Other versions of mac os may not have this command available. Please open the applescript in applescript editor for more details." buttons {"kthxbai"}
    end try
if makiaeawirelessstatus is "Wi-Fi Power (en1): On" then
do shell script "networksetup -setairportpower en1 off"
else if makiaeawirelessstatus is "Wi-Fi Power (en1): Off" then
do shell script "networksetup -setairportpower en1 on"
    else
              display dialog "The script did not work as intended, please check your wireless connection is specified correctly. The default in this script is en1 (please open the applescript in applescript editor for more details)" buttons {"kthxbai"}
    end if

  • Apple Tv, just turns on and off, it will not fully load.

I will try to load it up, apple logo comes on and then the yellow light starts blinking and it resets itself.  Worried that I may have a bad hard drive. Any help would be amazing!
    Thanks,

Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.

My ipod touch (2nd generation) has a blank screen except fot the little apple. Won't turn on or off. I recently updated it on itunes- it worked. Now it doesn't. I tried turning it off (resetting) with the button and the slide. Still won't do anything.

    Try here.

If not successful, let the battery fully drain and then charge and try again.

  • Connection slow/stopping - having to turn Airport connection off and on

Over the past day or two I've had a problem with my internet connection. I was finding it was fine at first but then would slow down and/or stop (even though the bars on my Wifi connection were full) and only turning my Airport connection off and back on would fix it, but only temporarily.
I tried all kinds of solutions, mostly to do with reconfiguring my Time Capsule with different channels, different security settings, different DNS servers, etc.
None worked, and then I was reading a discussion about aluminium iMacs and how they only receive a connection through certain parts of their cases. It occured to me that I had cleaned my desk a couple of days ago and moved my computer further back on the desk. I've pulled it back again and this seems to have fixed the problem.
My room is quite far from the base station so it's clearly quite sensitive with regard to positioning.
Hope that helps anyone having a similar problem.

    Hi
I also get this problem. I have just bought an Intel-based 21'' Mac desktop and the internet worked fine for the first 2 weeks but ever since has been on and off for 20 minutes or less at a time.
Suddenly, the computer either loses the wi-fi signal or simply does not process it. Even if I go to Airport and attempt to connect to my network, the connection just times out. I believe that it may just be a simple connection problem but I don't believe this is satisfactory given that my girlfriend spent more than £1,000 on the machine and I never have any problems with the internet on my £300 Dell laptop, even when in exactly the same location.
Does anyone have any solutions? We have tried tech support but they have been hopeless!
    Thanks
    Chris

  • Apple 30" Display turning on and off by itself? HELP!

    Greetings,
I'm experience this weird problem with my 30 inch display. I don't know why it's happening or to begin to troubleshoot it. So basically, I'm shutting down my computer and display every night. The next day the display power light is on by itself before I turn the computer back on, sometimes it's flashing on and off. And when I turn the computer on it doesn't change, the display just turns on and off every few seconds.
I found a temporary fix, which is to un-and-replug the display's psu either from the wall or just from the psu brick... that'll prevent the problem from happen until the next after it's been off the entire night. WHY?
Any help on this would greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead.

I'm getting the same thing myself. I also have the problem that the display sometimes flickers on and off when I first boot up. Again... unplugging the ACD power from the brick and back in again temporarily cures it. I initially thought it was the video card in my Mac, an ATI 2600XT because the card eventually died. However, I have just put an Nvidia GT120 in the machine and the same thing is happening. The display works fine with my Macbook Pro 2.6. Any ideas would be most welcome.

  • Script to turn Airport on at start up

    computers MacBook 2GHz Intel
    OS 10.4.11
We authenticate to an open directory server. If a student turns the airport off before he shuts down the next student can not login. An administator has to login locally and turn the airport back on before the computer can be used again.
I have used a script on iBook g4s but its not quite working on the new MacBooks.
In terminal type /system/library/coreservices/remotemanagement/ardagent.app/contents/support/net worksetup -setairportpower on
using on/off in this command you should be able to turn the airport on and off.
On the MacBook I get this message
"you cannot set airport power because all airport network services are disabled"
    Any idea why?

    Terminal commands to try...
    sudo ifconfig en1 up
    sudo ipconfig set en1 DHCP

  • Apple reset screen turns on and off.

I had my iPod plugged to my home stereo (via headphone jack). I was playing some songs to practice with my instrument. I needed to upload another song so I unplugged it from the stereo and connected it to my PC. When it sync'ed with iTunes, it detected it as another iPod and all the music was erased. I unplugged it and reseted it.
Then the apple screen came on, then the backlight came on. Then it turned off. Then the apple screen came on, then the backlight came on. Then it turned off.
This cycle repeated itself until the battery drained. Then I plugged it back, charged for a while and the cycle started over again.
I searched the forum for similar problems but found none. I really need my iPod, as it is my main tool to practice with my instrument.
    Thanks.

When i turn on my ipod i see the applesign then it quickly shuts itself off and on again without me doing anything, i try to charge it and it wont charge i pulg it into the computer and it wont recognize it. so i turned on DFS mode and it says waiting on ipod and doesnt change.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • How 2 turn airport scanning off to save battery?

a poster on [this|http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=508045] link says airport only scans for new network when its icon is clicked. i just want to be sure that it doesnt keep on scanning for new networks when i am already connected to one. any suggestions?
    Neerav

It doesn't. The scan only starts when you click on the Airport icon in the menu bar. It does that because normally you would only do that to select a network - so it starts scanning for available networks.

Not with your current user id.
Far too much uneccesary information in your post, which only confuses things, a vast amount!
    Let's start with iTunes.
Have you updated iTunes to 11.1.5, because the previous version did appear to have an issue about seeing iPods?
With iTunes 11.1.5 installed, look in Edit/Preferences/Devices, (or use the ALT key, followed by the E key and then the F key) and make sure that the box named Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically does not have a tick in the box.
Once you have doen those two things, check to see if the iPod is seen by iTunes.

By the way, what does IOS mean? (I thought IO stood for operating system, but am flummoxed by the S on the end.
    Really?
OS stands for Operating System. (In computer speak, IO means Input/Output.)
iOS originally stood for iPhone Operating System, but it now refers to the iPod Touch and iPhone. The iPod Classic, which you have listed in your profile as your iPod, does not use iOS.
I assume that you have been listening to the Podcast in your iTunes on the computer as you cannot transfer it to your iPod. It's what I'd do.

  • Airport and Apple Script - on and off script

I've had this problem for a while, trying to turn the airport card in a computer on and off using and apple script. i need it to automatically turn on or off depending on which account if logging into the computer.
I did find that a solution can be found by writing an apple script to turn airport on and off. but my scripting skills aren't good and haven't worked thus far.
So now i'm asking everyone: Can anyone write a script to turn the airport on or off? I bet you can't. (there's some motivation for you)
I think it's my last resort, turning to other apple user and requesting help, because i have not been able to find another solution or a prewritten script (surprisingly)
Thanks very much for your help!

  • My ipod nano 7th gen is stuck on a loop of turning on and off.

My ipod nano 7th gen is stuck on a loop of turning on and off, I've already done the reset, and everything that was recommended on other similar questions.  it isn't recognized by iTunes except in recovery mode where it allows me to restore but then goes right back to turning on and off once i'm back to normal play mode.  Once on recovery mode it works fine and doesn't turn on and off.  I've also uninstalled and reinstalled itunes to avail.  I'm super frustrated and am hoping that I won't need to buy a new one.  Is there anything else I can do before i just toss it out?  i'm getting a bit frustrated just watching my ipod turn on to the apple and then turn right back off.

You may find the troubleshooting steps in the article below helpful.

Will not turn on or screen remains dark
Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting it while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least six seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.
    Issue not resolved
If the issue is still not resolved, please read this information on servicing your iPod.
