Apple Stores in UK - customer service?

I'm contemplating the purchase of an iMac or a Mini, but have been rather dismayed by the number of reports here from users who have had problems with each...
iMacs shutting down, Minis with sound problems...etc, etc.
However, I'm sure that with whatever I buy these days, I run the risk of having problems, be it HP, Dell, Apple or whatever.
I suppose the important thing is this: If it goes wrong or develops a fault, how easy would it be to get it put right?
So, back to the subject - for those of you in the UK who have had to take their machine into an Apple store for warranty work/attention, how happy have you been with the response or action taken?
Cheers,
Si.

Hi _devros,
So, back to the subject - for those of you in the UK who have had to take their machine into an Apple store for warranty work/attention, how happy have you been with the response or action taken?
There are four Apple stores within very close commuting distance to where I live - Kingston Bentall Centre, London Regent Street, London Brent Cross and Kent Bluewater.
Although I have been to all of them and visit the Kingston and Regent Street branches regularly I very much prefer going to an independent Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) for problem solving. I have developed close relationships with the AASPs that are close to me - know all the staff, go out for a drink or two etc etc. The result is that whenever I have a warranty issue or, on rare occasions, a problem I cannot fix I just pop into one of the AASPs and the job gets done with minimum inconvenience to myself.

Apple Store, One To One service the ios development of teaching?

If you are asking if Apple's One-to-One service included instruction or consulting on application development, no, they do not. The topics the One-to-One service covers are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/retail/learn/one-to-one/
If that's not what you mean, please post back and clarify. You may wish to post in your native language since your command of English seems to be a bit less than perfect.

  • I CAN NOT BELIEVE APPLE OFFERS NO PHONE CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR ITUNES USERS!

I have been unable to access my purchased music on my new computer (the old one crashed before I could back up my purchased itunes music). I clicked "check for purchases," and received one of several television shows I purchased and NONE of the dozons of songs and albums. When I clicked "check for purchases" again, a box came up that said "all purchases have been downloaded for this account." Does Apple really not allow you to recover your purchased music in this situation? Does Apple really put profits ahead of customer satisfaction to the extent that they've eliminated phone customer service for itunes altogether? Well, I know the answer to the second question from research is yes. How sad. But can anyone help me with the first Q? Is all my purchased music really gone permanently? Thanks. -Matt

    Hi, Matt.
Apple's policy is clear: iTS purchases can be downloaded only once. It is your responsibility to make back-ups.
That being said, at their discretion they have made one-time exceptions to this policy. You can ask for an exception by submitting the form at the bottom of this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/backup/
Good Luck! But whatever the response from Apple, remember:
Your music is valuable - please back it up!

  • Verizon store personnel and customer service less than useless!!

I'll try and make this as short and concise as possible:
    1. went to Walmart to research cell phones and available carriers/plans.
    2. Verizon rep Melissa was in-store, introduced me to the prepaid $45/month plan and talked me into a "new" Motorola Luge.
    3. Researched the Luge, piece of crap two year old technology, rebranded Motorola M. Wanted to change phones, upgrade to Samsung S4 or Moto X.
    4. Tried to buy replacement phone online through Verizon website. Could not do so without paying another $45 monthly charge.
    5. Called customer service, was assured I could add the $45 for the new account I had to create in order to get the Samsung (which came with a new phone number) back on to my original account and phone number once I made the swap to the new phone.
    6. Received the new S4, swapped SIM cards, S$ now has my original number, Piece of crap Motorola returned for credit, new account and number no longer needed/active, $45.00 not credited to my original account. WHAT A TOTAL RIP OFF!!
The only good thing about Verizon is the coverage. BIG WASTE of time going to talk to the imbeciles (mostly youngsters working on commission that just want to sell you stuff, not solve problems) or trying to call customer service. Obviously CS folks are either ill informed or completely dishonest!!!
BEWARE ANYTHING YOU ARE TOLD BY ANY VERIZON REP!!!
I WANT MY $45 CREDIT TRANSFERRED TO MY ORIGINAL ACCOUNT!!!!

If your phone is less than one year old, it is still covered by the manufacturer's warranty.  I would take advantage of that and request another replacement.  It's your right as the consumer to request replacements until you get a device that works, that's in the contract you signed.  What's also in the contract you signed is that your replacements past the 14 day Worry Free Gaurentee period will be certified like new, AKA refurbished.  Verizon doesn't hide that information from you before you sign, it's all right there in the black and white text of your contract.
As far as Verizon being unwilling to sell you a new iPhone for $199, they refused to do it because it would cost them money.  When you signed your contract, you paid a subsidized price for the phone.  Verizon sold you that device at a LOSS, and planned on receiving 20-24 months of revenue from your monthly plan to make up that cost.  If they sold you a subsidized iPhone and put you in a new contract, they would never recover the LOSS that they took on the Blackberry Storm.  You can buy a new phone from Verizon at any time, at full retail price.  Buying a phone at full retail price is the only way to purchase a device that does not cost Verizon money up front.
My reccomendation?  Get another Storm replacement and see how it goes.  If that's still not the phone for you, look to eBay, Craigslist or friends/family for a used replacement.  Prices on eBay are likely to pretty good for older models of the iPhone now that the new hotness has been released.

  • Can Apple Store order a custom MacBook Pro For Me...

I purchased a 2015 MacBook Pro two days ago.  Purchased the 256gb 8GB ram model.  I find that I do actually need the 16GB of RAM.  If I still have my macbook pro within the return policy, can Apple Store order one for me (with 16gb of RAM) and let me use the one I currently have until the 16GB model comes into the store and I just swap computers and pay the difference?  Or do I just pay the difference up front and swap computers when the 16GB model comes in?
I would be without a computer for the time being, and I have clients that I work with on a day to day basis.  Being without a computer would be very bad...

You may be able to arrange with the Apple Store genius or specialist, to help you migrate
the current computer content to the new one when it arrives, and before you surrender the
one you want to upgrade from; they may also be able to help erase the returned model.
Usually from the time you contact Apple and arrange to return the computer (under the
14 day time frame) you then have a certain amount of time to send or take the return
to Apple; so if you contact Apple on say, the 12th day, and there are no weekends or
holidays to disrupt the physical time-frame return, you may have more than just 2 days.
I was told after discussing the return of a new Mini, (on the 8th day) that I had 14 days
after the day I told them I was wanting to return the computer. And if I chose to change
my mind, I could do nothing and that time-frame would elapse.
However, returns and exchange policies vary from OK to non-existent when the purchase
was through an authorized reseller that was not an authentic official Apple Store, or via the
official online Apple Store. An independent reseller usually will not allow returns or refunds.
Hopefully you can work it out to get the model you want and not be stuck with two, or none...

  • How do you get a human being from Apple for customer service? This is the worst customer support ever seen!

How do you get an actual human being to speak with at apple to help with customer service?

The Apple Support COMMUNITIES is a user-operated apple-run page where users of the COMMUNITY help other people the best they can. Apple employees do not have anything to do with this page apart from own the servers and design it. If you want to speak to Apple then go to their Customer Support here: http://www.apple.com/uk/support/contact/
Remember, this isn't a customer support page, it's a community forum based on using Apple products. If you wish to refer to Apple employees then this is the wrong website.
    Hope this helps.

The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
It is not safe to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
1a. If you don't own another Mac
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received those media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Some models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you may not be able to reinstall 10.6 even from the original discs, and Internet Recovery may not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
1b. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
    2. Partition and install OS X
If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In thePartition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.
    3. Other issues
If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information.

  • Horrible Customer Service/Complaint

I went to the Verizon Wireless store located at
4001 Virginia Beach Blvd, Ste 105, Virginia Beach, VA.
My phone was not charging. As I went into the store they stated no need to check in because there was no wait. A bunch of reps sitting around doing what exactly NOTHING and I still waited 10 min. I watched another customer come in purchase and leave before me. Finally a rep who was what appears to "looking busy" asked what I needed help with. I explained phone was not charging and brought in BOTH of my chargers for the phone. He decides to take phone to plug into his charger to see if it works. At this time I don't know if he plug in charger or not, he comes back and says "BECAUSE YOUR SCREEN IS CRACK we CAN'T do ANYTHING with your phone". Okay cool, My next question, what does the screen have to do with it charging? Screen crack is not bad, phone fully functional and the only problem was it was not charging. I was advised to file a claim for insurance or better yet, TAKE MY WIFE'S phone battery out of her phone charge and put battery back in my phone? REALLY? I advised that was the dumbest **** thing ever and how do you even know it is not the wall chargers. Once again I was told "well we can't do anything because of physical damage to phone". Let's not mention the fact that I have been to the same store twice before for phone issues with the same crack screen and NEVER EVER WAS TOLD THIS BEFORE!!!!!!! What should I give this too, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, MISCOMMUNICATION or just ONE LAZY SLACK *** EMPLOYEE WHO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS is A WASTE OF TIME. If that is the way he is then VERIZON is CLEARLY wasting MONEY on this guy! I leave the store and call customer service where I spoke with a rep who was shock at the treatment in store and help me OVER THE PHONE and DETERMINED it was the wall chargers that are not working CORRECTLY! How does this look. I bet if I would have went into the store and said I WANT TO BUY A PHONE, I could have pick line all the reps up and they probably would have put in a bid to help me! Broken phone, "GET HIM OUT THE STORE BY WHATEVER MEANS NECESSARY!" You have to love face to face customer service that is poor as that employee. Oh no, I didn't get his name and I can describe him, however I don't want come off rude or a as some sensitive people might think I am racist! If he would have taken the time to handle the situation properly we wouldn't be where we are right now. A loyal customer for over 10 years and would leave Verizon for this poor excuse of a rep! Terrible!

If you find an email or address I would love to know about it.
I traded my brand new iPhone 4s for a $200 gift card I never received.  I have been waiting a year now for a $300 Credit because a store manager charged me rather than deducting for a returned tablet.  The VZW ware house has received my trade in iPhone which I have proof from the USPS I have the proof of delivery but I was charged for not returning my phone.  I have spent over 100 hours calling almost daily to VZW Customer Service and EVERY SINGLE REP has said they will call me back and never do.  This past Sunday I got a Supervisor that told me she would get the answers and contact me no later than today at 12:30 no matter what and I received no returned call yet again.  3 bill cycles ago I had an almost $600 dollar Credit on my account according to VS in our local store and my bedt Bill said I owed $1000, this law bill due this week was for $1300 yet I bought NOTHING.
I have warned VZW for the last week to get their crap together or I was leaving Verizon after 8 years and that I will NOT pay the bill and still they sit on their thumbs ignoring me.
From a HUGE Credit to a $1300 Bill  because my returned device got there  yet disappeared once it got to their warehouse so I am being charged for an  iPhone 5s that I just used to edge up????
Verizon has gone down hill badly and I will be going to US Cellular with my "9" lines of service.
Tomorrow, I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau because even the store here has been calling CS because THEY can see there is a huge problem with no fault on my part.

  • Warranty apple store, product bought elsewhere

Can I go to any apple store for any repair service although I have bought my iMac on amazon for instance? I wonder why there are plenty of offers online that are cheaper than apple itself... Is there any big advantage if I buy the product directly from apple?
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

Chris, if you post a link to the iMac you are considering perhaps someone can advise you on the merits of purchasing it from them vs. Apple.
There is nothing wrong with purchasing from Amazon but Apple may have a better deal, especially if the one you are considering is already discontinued or used. "Amazon Marketplace", if that is what you are considering, isn't much different than eBay. Both have policies that strongly favor the buyer, but neither source is an ideal place to purchase a Mac for a number of reasons.

  • Shocking Customer Service...

I have had my Xperia Z1 Compact for less than a year, and in this time it has been in to SBE Ltd for repair three times. The first time was to repair damage caused after the phone had been used in water with all the ports firmly shut. After this first repair the vibrator motor was loud and rattly, as if loose, and the back panel was also slightly loose and creaked when pressed. I sent the phone in again to have these issues repaired. A month ago I again used the phone underwater with the ports firmly shut, and again the phone was damaged and had to be repaired. I sent the phone back to SBE Ltd for repair. A week later the phone came back with what appears to be a damaged LCD screen. The screen has several small bright patches towards the bottom left, and at certain angles a straight crack of backlight is visible running right accross the screen. Additionally, there is a piece of dust inside the camera lens which can be seen as a large dark patch on photos. I contacted Sony to ask for a replacement phone, as this one has clearly never been waterproof, and I am thoroughly unhappy with the 'repair' service I have received from SBE Ltd. I had to call twice and email in some photos of the damage. Four days later I was contacted, and told that my case had been transferred to the offline escalations team, and that I would be contacted in 3 to 5 working days. Two weeks later, and still no reply I emailed telling them it had been two weeks and I hadn't heard anything. Today I was finally contacted, nearly three weeks after my initial contact with Sony. The reply from Sony simply asked me to send my phone back in to SBE Ltd for repair. Two phone calls, several emails and three weeks, and this is all they can come up with. Now I am faced with the prospect of sending my phone in to this useless third party repair company yet another time for them to execute another substandard repair. Who knows what issues it will have when 'repaired'. Having come from Apple, with their excellent customer service, I am left totally disappointed by Sony.

Sent off my phone for the third time for a repair on the 30/06/2015, on the way back the courier misdelivered the parcel and I am still waiting for another phone. It is a nightmare still happening and don't know how to get through. I keep contacting because if didn't I wouldn't have any updates from them, but everytime I call, there is always some news, something that I wasn't told earlier and that puts back the delivery of the new phone (actually refurbished). When they are good news it is because no news, at all. Since I reported the misdelivery have already passed 17 days and up to now I don't know when I will have my phone, for which obviously I am paying each month.Everytime I call an agent promise that the problem will be sorted out soon (...soon when?) but nothing happens, no timeframe no clear information, they make up things or avoid to give any information and if I ask them to send me an email with what they have just said but they refuse to do it. I ask for terms and conditions and they say that there are not.The escalation team doesn't care at all and keeps hiding behind the agents. At some point, eventually, someone from the the escalation team called me back and after our conversation he followed up with me and in his email he insinuated that "I am denying" to have received the parcel, although it is clear from the tracking that the name of the person who signed for is not my name. Even a child would understand that straight away.I'm trying to keep calm but it is almost impossible. I have enough, I'm exhausted. I feel messed around, fooled. It is shameful! I've got the feeling that I'll need to seek for legal assistance. I will never ever have a Sony phone again and I'll be very carefull from now on with any other of its products.
