Apple tv random slideshow
Hi guys,
Does anyone know if the apple TV slideshow feature generates a random order for the images in a slide show?
I want to use 3x apple TV's to show a slideshow on 3 tvs, using images from a central library and I want it to randomly show different images on the different screens. Will it show random images on the different screens or will they display in the same order on each screen?

Apple TV Randomly Disconnects From iTunes While Streaming Videos
Hey All,
Anyone having an issue where your Apple TV randomly disconnects from your iTunes on another computer while streaming videos from it? Randomly, on different shows and movies, I have had it do it quite a few times.
In the beginning, after it would disconnect, within a few seconds, it would reconnect to iTunes and then I would have to navigate back to what I was watching and and resume it. Now, it will disconnect, and then I will have to quit iTunes on my iMac and then start it up again.
I am curious if it is an issue with the wireless adapter on the ATV because when it happens, it looks like it losses complete connection with the iTunes and then reconnects to the net only after. Then I would need to restart iTunes on my iMac to continue watching my show.
This was happening before the recent update and continues after the update as well.

That is a possible solution, but I will definitely check with Apple first, hoping it will be a no money solution (I am a grad student, every dollar helps).
My apartment is two rooms, my iMac being in another room, so that wouldn't work. The Wifi extender will probably be my only hope if Apple is not cool with the helping a brother out. -
I recently switched (back) to Mac from Windows. One thing I liked in Windows was the Google sidebar widget that gives a random slideshow from the photos on your machine. Is there nothing like that available for Mac?
You can accomplish this by simply making a Basic Slideshow. Drag in the images you want to randomize in the gallery. Click on each element (forward and back arrows, image number display) and delete those. The gallery will stay without the extras, then set your slideshow settings to this:
each time the page refreshes it will randomize what shows up. without autoplay it will not play another image, without controls or swipe turned on there will be no user control, thus you have an image randomizer -

getImage();It's hard to follow your code due to what's shown besides it, but it would appear you simply need to keep a count of how many times the getImage function executes and put the call to it in the fadeOut function within a conditional that won't call it when it has executed three times.

Apple TV Random Black Screen During Slideshow

I have just bought a new Apple TV 160 GB and sync'd all my photos (20GB) and music (15-16GB) to it using iTunes on my Windows XP computer.
It was working fine, however over the past few days I have noticed that during the slideshow, a photo will apear for a few seconds, then the screen will go black. After a couple of seconds the next photo comes up and everything is fine. Then in another few minutes, the same thing will happen.
I updated the software following the updates function on the Apple TV a few days ago. I cannot be certain, but I don't remember this problem happening before. Does anyone have any advice? I can try to reset the Apple TV and see if the previous software version has the problem, but I don't want to as it takes a very long time to sync all the music and photos.

After new HD,RAM Apple apps random crashing
Hi, out there,
If any one has been following my sorry tale, here is the next installment. MacBook Pro 17"2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo new 4 GB RAM from Crucial, new HD installed by Apple including Leopard plus updates, new motherboard in last 1 1/2 years, software: iWork, Adobe Creative Suite CS3, most home files copied manually (documents and YES quite a few fonts) am experiencing random crashing esp Safari, Mail and iTunes - sometimes when I am not even near the computer.
Any ideas? (I am kind of tired of troubleshooting - old HD passed all tests, had to manually back up as Time Machine would not work, eliminated at least a dozen or more corrupt InDesign files - but lay it on me!)
AnnexitDoes "not that I know of" cover it? Except for my font obsession (and now that I look, I haven't even reinstalled my extra fonts) I just don't download a bunch of stuff - the usual flashplayer,etc, whatever Adobe Creative Suite needs, but I am pretty much down to business. Apple techs reloaded my Leopard plus all updates, and I think all I put in was the CS3 and iWork 9. I didn't reinstall my files since i had to back up manually, so I added them back manually as well - home folders, etc. The iTunes crash occurred when I wasn't at the computer.
The complete Mail Crash report is below but before that is the first part of the crash report for the- 3 Safari crashes - if you need more please let me know, it is just a lot of information that may just clog up the post. Thanks for your help. I will research how to see what plugins i have - I know that Adobe installs some, but I wouldn't know how to figure out if one was corrupt. I am pretty limited in my understanding of the deeper structure, I understand the general principle of code but have no education or experience in understanding what it says or how to write it, so nothing is obvious. In the past I have used the Terminal to execute sudo commands to do maintanence, and some searches but that is it. Kern[el?] PRotection Failure sounds ominous.It looks like one of the Safari crashes has the same program counter issue as Mail. Yikes!

I've selected '2 seconds' in "Time Per Slide' and 'dissolve' in 'Transition' but the images are showing for twice the usual length. 400 images make a 31min25sec show, that equals 4.68 seconds per slide not 2! What's going wrong? Can anyone help?
Does the overall speed limitation of my internet affect the wireless communication between a computer & the wireless Apple TV?
Unless you were streaming the images from the Internet, the speed of your Internet connection does not have anything to do with the speed of your local network.
Question: Will heavy use of the internet slow down the Apple TV slideshow??

I still cant resolve the problem that Apple TV not can show my slideshow and also not map the photos as happenings in iPhoto.
Does anyone have a solution to this big problem in the new update. Or is there an easy way to transfer slideshows by export/import to movies. If this is the case, how is this done?

Those who are really neurotic about perfect slideshows could always create movies, as you suggest, for the older AppleTV versions.
Well actually they couldn't do this with the ease they now can. iphoto only used to support export of low resolution movies in a format not compatible with the tv.
Also, if AppleTV does not support new features in iPhoto, wouldn't a much better solution be to add support for those features to AppleTV?

Apple TV randomly exits to title screen in the middle of a movie.
I'm getting this really weird issue, and no matter what I try I can't seem to find the source.
While watching a movie which is being streamed over airplay, at some point (It's completely random when it occurs), the Apple TV just randomly ports me back to the menu. When I go back to my movie, it starts it WAY back from where the movie was when it exited, meaning I now have to fast forward through tons of content to get back to where I was.
I stream the movie from my MacBook Pro, which is usually not plugged in, and I just have the screen dimmed via a hot-corner.
My first thought was that it was the sleep on the Apple TV, but shouldn't that not matter since I'm streaming a movie at the time? Sleep settings on the Apple TV should have no affect on that.
So I checked my laptop settings. My laptop sleep settings on the battery are like 5 minutes for monitor and like 15 minutes for the hard drive. That does not coincide at all with the Apple TV issues, since most times these errors happen well over an hour into the movie.
Anyone have any idea what is causing this? I have the new Apple TV with version 4.1.1 software, and I'm (obviously) streaming mp4 movies through my iTunes.

2- That could be the cause. Right now i'm taking AVI's and MKV's and converting them to MP4 and M4V's using "Handbrake". I use the Apple TV preset in that program, and just max out the quality so I don't lose any quality when it converts. I don't think it's an issue of size though, even playing 1080p high def movies streaming through my apple tv, I almost never see any sort of FPS loss or noticeable lag. Usually when this issue happens, it's just in the middle of the movie somewhere where everything is going fine.

Yes I am streaming wirelessly over a secured network without anything else going on (network side).
All I do is turn my iTunes on, dim my display, start up apple tv and it automatically syncs to my iTunes library. From there I just select what I want to play. I'm not sure if that's considered "Airplay" since i'm not clicking on an airplay icon or anything, it's all just synced through itunes.
I may try connecting directly, but if that resolves it, i'm going to be pretty bummed. The main reason I got the Apple TV was to wireless stream this stuff.

Creating Apple TV photo slideshow in Windows/Converting .mov to Apple TV
I have a newly purchased 160 GB Apple TV and am having some difficulty creating a slideshow. Ideally, Apple would offer iPhoto for Windows or I would own a Mac, but neither is currently true.
So, what is the best/easiest/cheapest way to create an iPhoto-esque slideshow in Windows XP? (transitions and audio track)
In my initial attempts to accomplish this task, I have created a slideshow using QuickTime. I opened a music file in QuickTime, then opened an Image Sequence in QuickTime, then copied the image sequence and Added and Scaled to the audio track. Finally, I saved this "slideshow" as a QuickTime movie (.mov). This isn't ideal, because there are no transitions and if the photos aren't all landscape it's troublesome. Nonetheless, I tried to open this QuickTime Movie then use the Export to Apple TV conversion process. Unfortunately, QuickTime basically just freezes when I try this. The progress bar never moves from 0%. Any advice here?

The simplest way to make a slideshow without adobe photo elements is simply to put collections of photos into folders and sync them to the tv. tv will allow you to add transitions and add a soundtrack from any music you also have synced. In the current version of tv the ending of the slideshow is a little abrupt but I'm sure it will improve in future versions.
I can't think why QT won't convert your QT (slideshow) movies, perhaps you can tell us a little about the movie. Open in QT, open the movie info window and post back the info you find there. -
Apple TV randomly stops playing music after 20 seconds and goes to next tune
I have the most updated OS on Apple TV, and recently it has started playing a track, after 20-30 seconds it abruptly stops and goes on to the next track. Some tracks play in entirety, but then several in a row will be abruptly ended. Any help to correct this is appreciated.
It was happening 90% of the time at 1:02 minutes into the track. Even though ATV did not suggest an upgrade, I went to the software update, and it updated something (no information was displayed).
So, now it is up-to-date, but I still get a random stoppage in the middle of a track (10% of the tracks), and it jumps to the next track.
I have it on shuffle. I am on wired ethernet (was on wireless, but switched to hard-wire just in case it was some network issue).

Setting up my slideshow I adjusted the length of time per slide to 8 seconds in iPhoto but it seemed to default to 5 seconds when played on the Apple TV. Under photo settings in Apple TV I couldn't find a setting adjustment for time of slide.
Also, the custom songs I selected didn't pass through from iPhoto to Apple TV. Any ideas?I was in the exact same boat. Plugged in via USB, I couldn't get anything to work. Then, I noticed that the HP Software including HP scan pro and the like worked.
Using HP scan pro, my unreachable scanner began scanning.
Try downloading the HP software for the printer. Check for updates. Mine is working under Lion 10.7 -
Does Apple TV play slideshows from iPhoto '09?
I created a slideshow in iPhoto with all the graphics, music, etc and exported it to iTunes. When it syncs up, Apple TV recognizes the slideshow, but plays it as just a regular album with no music at all. Is there no way to have it show up and sound the way it does on the mac?
Not currently. The tools will be given to developers and it will be up to them in terms of which apps are supported.

Apple Mail random messages disappear Exchange Server 2007
I've had this problem for several months and have been biting the bullet. I am a tech at ASU.
Seemingly random messages don't appear in my inbox. From any source or domain.
I have noticed some consistency in that messages are more likely to disappear if I have viewed them with a blackberry. Also, after a reply, I am more likely to not see the original message.
*I think the problem is related to synching, not sure if it's on the Mail client or an exchange server setting.*
I have tried rebuilding everything, changing my settings to not delete or move things --no rules etc.
I have observed this phenomena when the blackberry is out of the equation. I have observed it after a fresh install of Leopard. It has been close to a year. Out exchange admins are not familiar with AppleMail and are not inclined to change any settings to be more Mail friendly.
I am willing to keep my exchange mailbox down to a certain size, apply whatever changes or third party synch clients if it will resolve the issue. This is clearly a incompatibility with Exchange and Mail, but the rest of my peers at the University do not have this issue :/

I've been trying to hook up Mail to our Exchange 2003 server for a few days with no luck. Any hints? I've trying to use the same settings I have in my Entourage account. No dice. I've tried both Exchange 2007 and Exchange IMAP.
Anything I should know besides our Exchange server address? I've tried from within the Company and from my home. The message I get is always the same:
+"The Exchaange IMAP server "xxx" is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages"+
Maybe something needs to be done at the server end to accept Apple Mail?
Anyway, any hints are welcome.
