AppleCare iMac old product number OK?

Hello,
I've just ordered "AppleCare Protection 3year iMac" from Saverstore, a fairly large online retailer in the UK. Searching the given part number M7812Z/A (which would be equivalent to M7812LL/B in the States, I think) reveals that this is the code used for AppleCare around 2001-3 timeframe. I read of at least one person using this part number when buying off eBay to register a more modern iMac successfully, but I'm the type to worry, so I called AppleCare just now.
I was told in the first instance that "all iMacs are treated the same", but when I indicated my worry about the part number, the rep stated (without even asking for the number) that the only way of checking applicability to a particular computer was to open up the box and supply the registration number. While UK distance selling regulations will certainly enable me to return a sealed box within 7 working days, opened is another matter.
Since someone's had to set the AppleCare database to accept/deny agreement numbers based on part numbers, there's obviously someone in Apple who knows the answer , but I'm not sure who to ask next.
Any thoughts are welcome - thanks for listening.

Hi Veri!
I'm still using a number of AppleCares with part number M8851LL/A that I bought several years ago. Yes, I was expecting the prices to go up, so I bought in a stock of them. The AppleCare packages are dated 2003, as are the TechTool Deluxe CDs that have been inside. WARNING: do NOT use any of those old TechTool discs, as they are pre-Tiger!!! and of course, pre-Leopard. The ones you're looking at may even be pre-Panther.
Every one of the AppleCares that I've used to enroll a Mac, nine so far, has been accepted immediately on Apple's website and has been credited (attached) to the computer serial number that I entered. The most recent use was last week when I enrolled one of the old AppleCare with my new Alu iMac. A week to ten days later I always receive the AppleCare certificate in the mail from Apple.
The AppleCare database with which you'll interface online does not reference the package part number at all. You enter the serial number of your Mac and the Enrollment No. that's contained inside the sealed package. You'll be offered a confirmation screen where you confirm everything, including what kind of Mac you're enrolling, prior to submitting it and it's then instantly enrolled to cover that Mac.
It simply must be an iMac/eMac package to use with either of those computers. The iMac and eMac both have the same cost AppleCare. Obviously, one can not use a less expensive product to replace a more expensive product, and Apple's online interface does make that distinction.
Be sure not to wait until the actual anniversary date of your Mac purchase, as the requirement is to enroll within the first year. The anniversary date is the first day after the year is over. Learn the hard way, is my motto:(

  • Use old product number for new product.

    Dear all,
I have to manage the following case.
From a defined date the engineering releases a new product that will substitute an old product.
The marketing doesnu2019t want to change material number and would you like to use the old product number also for new product.
This solution has a great impact for planning because there is not possible to distinguish the old product stock from new product stock.
    Could you help me?

    Hi,
I think one opption is discontinuation that was invited for such cases I thnk. You can set the new part number as the follow-up material of the old one - in this case planning will run smoothly hopefully...
That would mean that they should use new part number but there would be some connection between the new and old one...
Split valuation is another tool to make difference between batches from different origins when the material number is the same. But you wrote batch management is not active...
If you use WM you can store the new & old goods separatly but I wouldn't prefer such solutions...

  • AppleCare Protection Planfor iMac (OLD VERSION)

I am looking to buy applecare and in Amazon they sell two versions of applecare for Imac..
AppleCare Protection Planfor iMac (OLD VERSION)
    and
AppleCare Protection Planfor iMac (NEWEST VERSION)
    Anyone know whats the difference?
The old is  priced less than the new one.
    Thanks

Apple comes out with a new part number every time a product line is renewed; resellers may still have stock of the previous version and will discount it. As long as the Applecare is for the product you are buying (iMac), it should be fine; I've purchased previous iterations because it cost less.
Edit: I just checked the place where I purchased it before and they are listing the new version for less than Amazon:

  • AppleCare for MB Pro. Is AppleCare with the old part number valid?

I've got a Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro and went to Amazon.com to get AppleCare. The AppleCare product for this Mac has a part number of M8853LL/A, while the AppleCare in the Apple Store and other places is part number MA515LL/A. It looks like the same thing, but with different packaging and a different part number. If I buy a version of AppleCare with the old part number is it valid on a Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro?
Thanks for any insight anyone can provide.
MacBook Pro Core Duo 2 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

As long as the Amazon product states that it's compatible with a MacBook Pro you'll be fine.

  • Use CS4. Switch from Win OS to Mac OS X. Download CS4 on iMac. But old product key is not recognised. How to solve problem?

    Use CS4.
Switched computer with Win OS to iMac computer with OS X.
    Downloaded CS4 on iMac.
But old product key entered is not recognised.
    How to solve problem?

There is nothing to resolve. Serial numbers are platform specific, but platform swaps only apply to current versions, meaning CS&. Your CS4 is not eligible for an upgrade, so your only option is to buy a new CS6 license or sign up for Creative Cloud.

  • Install CS4 web premium on a new computer without "old product/serial number" that I need to validate this copy?

I am trying to install CS4 web premium on a new computer and have the serial number/date of purchase for this product, but at the start of installation it wants an old product previously installed and what that serial number is.  There's a chance it's on some old computer in a box, but I haven't seen / used a product besides CS4 in years (purchased in 2011) and don't know how I can put it on this new computer & get back to using it without knowing this mystery serial number? Thanks for your help & suggestions

It appears you purchased an upgrade version of CS4 and if so you are required to prove that you qualify for using it.  This means you need to identify the old version and its serial number - no way around that.  You will need to find that mystery version information.  If you check your Adobe account online you might find it.

  • Use of vendor product number in shopping cart from personal template

    Hi all,
    I have the following scenario:
    We use ECC 6.0, SRM 5.0 MDM 5.5 sp6 catalog 2.0.
In the inforecord master data in ECC we use the vendor product number (vpn). When a inforecord is created or changed, the inforecords (or changed data in the inforecord) get's replicated to SRM-MDM, just like all of the other masterdata (product, vendor and conditions).
The vpn is included in the details of a catalog product.
When a personal template is generated from a product in the catalog, it's saved with the vpn included.
When the vpn changes in ECC, this number is replicated to the SRM-MDM catalog.
So if you choose the product from the catalog after the canged vpn, the new, right vpn is used in hte shopping cart. But when you use the template that was created before the time the vpn was changed, the old vpn is used in the shopping cart and subsequently the pr and po.
    This leads to wrong delivery's.
I've logged an oss call for this, because in my opinion this is a product default. But SAP points me on "standard design". This seems always to be the case when something difficult is asked.
They said it can be solved with a BADI implementation. To be more specific a validation in SRM-MDM with the doc-change Badi.
Is there some one who has experience with this kind of development and knows if this is the whight Badi of has an alternative?
    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards,
    JvE

    Hi,
When a personal template is generated from a product in the catalog, it's saved with the vpn included.
When the vpn changes in ECC, this number is replicated to the SRM-MDM catalog.
So if you choose the product from the catalog after the canged vpn, the new, right vpn is used in hte shopping cart. But when *you use the template that was created before the time the vpn was changed, the old vpn is used in the shopping cart and subsequently the pr and po.
    *Solution:
you have told that in MDM -VPN is updated from ECC
Say for Eg : VPN  is 12345  in MDM
you have created a shopping cart template with thie VPN : 12345 .
you have ordered the shopping cart the VPN number will be 12345.
After a week this VPN is updated from ECC by 12345ABC
now you have to Delete the old shopping cart template what you have created 12345.
You have to create a new template with VPN :12345ABC and create a  shopping cart
How will the VPN change in the Old Template? It  is not possbile.
It is not A product bug.
Please try this method what I  have suggested

  • Can the old product be catched if I change the product in an ite?

    Hi experts,
Is there anybody knows how can I catch the old product if I change the product in an item when placing orders?
I mean just change the product number, not deleting the whole line.
Do you know the badi/function name??
    Jerry.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Below are the steps in detial,
    1. Declare an attribute as public static in controller class. Redefine method set_ordered_prod and before the statement set_property, assign <oval> to your attribute.
    2. Go to SE11 and create a dataelement with domain as CRM_ORDERED_PROD.
    3. Go to SPRO->CRM->BAsic Functions->Pricing->Define Settings for Pricing->Maintain Field Catalog.
    4. Create the attribute in field catalog with below parameters,
         Field Type = 'I'   ( item field )
         Implementation type = ' '
         Enter field name
         Virtual = 'D'
         Visibility = ' '
         Selection type = 'D'
         Enter the data element
Now save the field catalog and click generate. Now go to SE11 and check for your attribute in structure CRMT_ACS_I_COM.
    5. Create implementation for badi CRM_COND_COM_BADI and implement method ITEM_COMMUNICATION_STRUCTURE.
Inside the method, create an object ref. to controller class. ( step 1) and assign the public static attribute to the attribute
created in field catalog. example CRMT_ACS_I_COM-<zfield...> = ....
    6. Download the pricing userexit manual from OSS Note 809820. Chapter 3 explains about how to create user exit implementations and assign attributes to it. Follow the steps and assign the attribute created in field catalog to your user exit formula.
    7. In IPC you can access the attribute using the below statement,
    String itemCategory = item.getItemAttributeValue("Z......").getValue();
    Hope this helps.

  • I have the HP G72-259WM Notebook PC , Product Number: wq668ua which has worked out great for me.

I have the HP G72-259WM Notebook PC , Product Number:  wq668ua running WIndows 7 (64bit)  With 4GB of RAM and 1695MB video Ram. I just purchased a game (Star Wars: The Old Republic) and my laptop meets all the requirement stated on game accept one that I did not understand see until after the purchase. The Graphic card needs to run Shader 3.0 or greater. My Laptop is now out of warrenty and would like to upgrade my hardware. Can I either purchase a motherboard or graphics card in order to run this game instead of buying a whole new system? Note: the game states that there are a few different cards that work with this game and wonder if there is something equal to, or a little better that match there capibility that I can use? They are the ATI/AMD Radeon HD 4850, or NVIDA GeForceGTX 260 /512MB graphic cards.
I would like to use the all the same hardware with a new motherboard... unless the graphic card is seperate and if so can you tell me what I need to get and where? Thanks

  • What happens when you don't have an old serial number (from 10 years ago)?

I bought PageMaker 6.5 in when I was teaching, and I have been retired over ten years. I upgraded to InDesign 3 in 2007. Two weeks ago my hard drive crashed. In installing InDesign 3 again, I'm asked for old PM6.5 serial number, which I can't find. I've used PageMaker since it was put out by Aldus in the 80s, and I have the first serial number from that set of floppies, from which I upgraded to all others, but I'm told no serial # from PM 6.5, I have to buy it all again!!!!! Is there any reason in this?

It looks like you have got an upgrade version of the new product.  this means that you must have an old product that you used to obtain a discount on Adobe product.  Therefore, the Installation process needs to verify this and the only way to do this is to have your old serial number.  I wish I had your valid e-mail address to advise you further.
    Good luck.

  • Re-installed windows 7 now product number, name and serial number do not show in Support Assistatn

I bought my G61-110SA notebook pre-loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit edition.  After a year, I ran into the infamous issue that my Windows 7 was no longer genuine.  I didn't want to do a recovery as I have several applications I would need to re-install and would need to search for the software and licensing keys (mostly downloaded, never saved to a disk for future use).  In the end, after many attempts to try re-activate - worked with microsoft and re-installed windows 7 - moving the old windows to windows.old - most of which I moved to a backup drive - mainly for documents (share computer with wife and son),
The machine is working very well now - however when I run HP Support Assistant my computer serial number, product number and product name no longer show.  Is there someway to retrieve this data - obviously have these values on the tag of my machine and when I registered with HP a few years ago.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated

I´ve been following the same installation procedure as for the first time. There is just one DVD in the set with all the installation files. The only change is the "Invalid Serial Number" message in the very end. Then, a windows appears which announces that "the trial period" continues -- as if I had downloaded the program from some website.
